Thanks for stating your experience. Im probably wrong, but I know those that did DIY the day I captured and today I collected my file were with pink files

Yeah probably they've changed it, this one they even asked people to go buy their own file sef.

But you were right about their attitude sha, they seemed kind of friendly even to DIY

My experience at Alausa office (I did DIY plus fast track, total amount spent was less than 40k)

I want to start by saying the Alausa office are very effective in carrying out their duties. I really appreciate them for that. Let me add that their approach to those doing DIY is quite commendable. They relate with you with a mixture of both disdain and fear/respect. I noticed they treated me with "special respect" due to the DIY. Noticed it with others that did same.

My advice: Do the first payment online, then do fast track after biometrics

After making your payment online, YOU ARE EXPECTED TO GO TO THE OFFICE BEFORE YOUR CAPTURING DATE TO OPEN A FILE (This is an information most DIY don't know). If this is done, it makes it easier for you on the day you finally go for capturing.

But just incase you can't/didn't go (like me), you can get it done on that capturing date. I'll suggest you budget 2k and those photocopy shops will help you get it done. Please, go with passport photograph o, except you have excess money to spend

After this point is where my fast track started. You'll be given a brown envelope at the shop (request for it, it you want to do fast track). Take the envelope and move in, submit it to the person helping you with fast tracking, and you'll join the queue for capturing.

After that, you should collect it in less than one week if your fast track is sure. Got mine in less than four days, although I went to pick it up today (already had my new passport number before today)

SUMMARY: Note that this is for Alausa office oooo
- On the day of your capturing, go in the afternoon, around 2/3pm. By then, the crowd would have subsided (Don't mind the time on your slip)

- Get someone to fast track for you before capturing

- When you go to prepare your file at the photocopy shops, go for the brown file... DIY is pink file (I think that's to differentiate us), but since you already plan to fast track, don't use that file

- You'll pay #3000 for one stamp like this sha inside the office

- After capturing, don't misplace your slip. You'll need it for your passport collection

- When you go to collect your passport, go around 9am. Ensure you go with the old passport else you'll be sent back

- No "Gara" for there o, else they'll ask you to go to hell. I saw instances like that where people thought they could bully the officials maybe because of who they think they know, and the official asked them to do their worse.

I noticed the officials there know their rights and don't stand for any intimidation especially when on their right

- If you're going with kids, they give you priority, and they treat the kids very well.

Downside: The dustbin in the compound is full and overflowing, hence the wait area stinks.

I'm not sure that file color is correct.

I did DIY same Alausa and our files were brown, this was late last month. I also didn't make any payment of 3k. And going to the center before your capture date to arrange your file doesn't make a difference cause it doesn't take more than 5 mins to get this done, so going on the capturing date do still do this doesn't make it less easier.

It's even more inconvenient going before the capture date.

Just shut up your dirty mouth there.
I live in North America,to renew my Naija passport has been a war.Even with begging to pay extra.Do you think most people like to bribe their way out?Hell No!
Immigration officers are one of the biggest crooks we have in this country.
I had to fly into Nigeria with an expired Passport. Before I came in,checked online to do DIY in Lagos and next capturing date was a day before I am to travel back.Even though I will be spending 5 weeks in Naija. So if I had done DIY,when will I get my new International Passport?Spend 2 more months in Naija abi?Even though I want to wait,I won’t get it.
These guys intentionally frustrate DIY.

Arrived Naija and made some connections.Did NIN in Lagos, got to Ilorin,NIN became invalid.I was scammed.Had to pay for another NIN,paid to get captured in 2 weeks and paid to get my renews passport in another 2 weeks.Making 4 weeks in total.
Cost of flight to and fro Ilorin was about 120k.
Do you think I love to spend extravagantly?No!Do I have a choice,No.
This is Nigeria for you and most Nig embassies abroad.

Just spoke to an IO now, dude was telling me if I need renewal quickly for a family friend I want to process,I should not try DIY.That it will take roughly 5 months after capturing before I can get it.Guess what?We had to do the “rub my palm while I rub yours way”

IO don’t have power over date of capturing,is what the system pull out they will give you.
To get the Passport is where they have all their powers. That’s where they make money from.
People are leaving Nigeria daily.Whonisnready to wait for another 6 months just to process Passport that ain’t certain you will get on the day you were told to come back.
They will frustrate you will come back another.

This sh*t does not happen here!!!

You know you could have done the renewal 6 months before it got expired right.

Then the bolded is actually not true, I've had friends that did renewals in March and we're able to get their passport in April, all in this year going through the DIY at Alausa with no agents involved.

The day I went for my capturing there were a lot of DIYs who were there for pick up as well after receiving notifications via SMS to come pick up. There have also been several testimonials on this thread from DIYs

I think the issue here is that we make them notice we need this thing urgently which enables them create that fear and allow is bulge.

Hello bro.. can you please work on a thread of how your processes went off in the Alausa office for DIY... some of us will like to see a guide do we won't make mistakes with all documents and all .. and especially for those that can't go to open a file before capturing date..

Your response will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Someone already did that a couple of pages back.

Hello guys!! My capture date is June 7th(Next Tuesday) DIY Alausa. I read somewhere here about people going to the Immigration office to open file before the capture date. Please is that compulsory? I just paid online and have gathered all the required documents waiting for the capture date. I don’t have time from work to visit there before the capture date. Even to get my leave approved for that date of capture wasn’t easy.
Please someone reply.

It's not compulsory. I really don't know why people stress themselves to do that tho.

Please I am about notarizing my guarantor form for capturing next Tuesday @ Alausa and I was just told High courts are on strike in Ibadan.

Does anybody know if they aren't on strike in lagos and which high court I can get it notarized seamlessly in lagos?

Thank you in anticipation of your kind responses.

Hey guys!
So I picked up my passport, yesterday Sunday 10th April at Alausa office. The issuing date was actually March 22nd as opposed to the March 8th collection date stated on the print out after capturing. I actually told myself I was going to wait a month after the collection date so as to avoid stories that touch and I'm glad I did. It was worth the wait. Good luck to every other DIYer in the house. May the process be seamless for you too. Amen.
Pls would like to confirm if I can use age declaration affidavit in place of the national population census birth certificate.

[quote author=veekid post=84003018]how? Or are they on twitter? [/quote

]lol please do not follow the advice of the person saying you should sue the bank or the agent.
If you made a wrong transfer, the bank is not at liberty or under any obligation to go to the receivers account to move the funds back, the only thing they can do is Inform the beneficiary's bank of this incidence then in turn they would place a hold on the funds and contact the receiver to give consent for the funds to be moved back to you. In the case where they're unable to get consent, that's where the court order would suffice...so writing to CNN, ndic etc is just a waste of time.

Cost of doing business, either low or high, cannot justify extortion or exploitation.

I am an entrepreneur as well. You don't create wealth for shareholders by reaping people off. Don't forget that government also has a responsibility to protect her citizens, and that is irrespective of ramifications.

Please, drop the price regulation argument as it relates to failure of our refineries. It doesn't hold water. Isn't OPEC regulating volume and setting price at the global stage? Why are there still functional refineries around the world?

As for market forces controlling prices of oil products, the industry is different. The players are few. It isn't the same as with Agriculture, FMCG etc.

Please, economy of scale makes better sense when the cost of doing business is high than when it is so low. Stop being theorical.

And my big question is: why can't the telcos leave when they think the environment isn't benefiting? Why do you prefer that government turn a blind eye to the plight of millions of her citizens to allow telcos 'create wealth' for a few tens of her shareholders?

There is nothing wrong with government calling for necessary adjustments to enhance value for her citizens, absolutely, nothing is wrong with that.

So you're saying as a business owner, if your cost of operation is N50 as at today and you charge N60, you would still charge N60 when it becomes N100 tomorrow?

Clamouring for a reduced price is good, but you need to also consider my cost of operation. Would you be giving me diesel or feul at a subsidized rate or even tax?
