Politics / Re: Why Benin Republic, Others Get Stable Electricity Than Nigeria-TCN by Scetrocom: 11:45am On May 16, 2019
But this has not explained why we could not generate beyond 4000+ MW for the past 4 years which has even dropped to 2.2k MW. Fine, obsolete distribution network is giving us problem. instead of dealing with that, government has embarked on another $1bln dollar borrowing from China to establish another power generation when we cannot actually utilize those we have on ground.

Politics / Re: Lateef Jakande: His 7 Notable Achievements In The Transport Sector In Lagos(pix) by Scetrocom: 9:59pm On May 13, 2019
AutoJoshNG:

Chief Lateef Jakande was born on July 29, 1929. He is currently 89 years old.

He was the first Democratic governor of Lagos state. His tenure lasted only four (4) years.

He served as Governor between October 1979 and December 1983.

He was a journalist who was later appointed the editor-in-chief of the Tribune by the owner, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Jakande later became actively involved in politics and became a member of the defunct Obafemi Awolowo-founded Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN).

Encouraged by Awolowo, he ran for election as the executive governor of Lagos State in 1979.As the Governor of Lagos state, he religiously implemented the four cardinal programmes of UPN.

As a result of his administrative philosophies, he was widely considered as the younger version of the sage, Obafemi Awolowo. Hence, he was famously referred to as “Baba Kerere” (Junior Awo).

He introduced housing and educational programs targeting the poor, building new neighbourhood primary and secondary schools and providing free primary and secondary education.

His government established a singular school system and ensured genuine free education in Lagos State and the beneficiaries of this policy are in different positions of eminence in the country and around the world.

His government raised the primary schools in Lagos State to 812 with 533,001 pupils (against 605 primary schools with 434,545 pupils he met in 1979) and secondary schools to 223 with 167,629 students (against 105 schools with 107,835 students in 1979).

His government constructed 11, 729 classrooms with a maximum of 40 children per class between March and August 1980, by 1983, he had constructed over 22,000 classrooms.

He established the Lagos State University.

His government built the current Lagos State Secretariat. The Secretariat houses all the state ministries as well as the popular roundhouse hitherto occupied by all subsequent governors of the state.

His administration built the Lagos State House of Assembly complex in Alausa, Ikeja.

His government established the Lagos State Television (LTV) and Lagos Radio,

He established the Lagos State University, General Hospitals, Teacher Training College and the College of Education, Waste Disposal Board,

His administration also established the Water Management Board and constructed the Adiyan Water Works (to increase water supply in the state to 18.16 million litres per day).

His government modernized and expanded the Iju Water Works which was first commissioned in 1915. This increased daily capacity from 159 million to 204 million litres per day.

His government established the Electricity Board for Rural Electrification with the provision of streetlights.

His government took over the ownership and financing of Lagos State Printing Corporation in July 1980.

His government established the first State Traffic Management Authority (Road Marshals).

His government established small scale Industries Credit Scheme which preceded the EKO bank.

His government established LASACO Insurance.

His government expanded the existing market and built new ones.

His government established Traditional Medicine Board.

Jakande’s government constructed over 30,000 housing units. The schools and housing units were built cheaply but were of great value.

For instance, his government built low-cost houses in Ijaiye, Dolphin, Oke-Afa, Ije, Abesan, Iponri, Ipaja, Abule Nla, Epe, Amuwo-Odofin, Anikantamo, Surulere, Iba, Ikorodu, Badagry, Isheri/Olowu, Orisigun etc.

He also completed the construction of the General Hospital in Gbagada and Ikorodu and built about 20 health centres within the state.

He established 23 local government councils which were later disbanded by the military.

Jakande exemplified a modest lifestyle.

As Governor, he refused to move into the opulent comforts of the governor’s official residence. As a state governor, he lived in his private residence in Ilupeju, his modest home surrounded by other homes. And he commuted to work in his private Toyota sedan.

Till date, he lives in his one-storey building at Ilupeju. His Number 2 Bishop Street, Ilupeju residence is devoid of the paraphernalia expected in a former governor’s residence, especially one of such status.

He tenure lasted for just 4 years. His achievements within those two years are considered by many as unrivalled by any administration after him.

In the transport sector, below are a few of his achievements during his four-year stint as the Governor of Lagos state.

Road Construction/Rehabilitation:

Lateef Jakande constructed, rehabilitated and resurfaced the following roads:

Epe/Ijebu-Ode Road
Oba Akran Avenue
Toyin Street, Ikeja
Town Planning Way
Alimosho-Idimu-Egbe Road
Idimu-Iba-LASU Road
Victoria Island/Epe Road
New Secretariat road, among others.

Giant Car Crusher Equipment

His government purchased and commissioned the giant car crusher equipment. The equipment was designed specifically to crush derelict vehicles in Lagos State. It had the capacity to crush 45 vehicles per day.

Asphalt Plant For Department of Public Works

The Government of Lateef Jakande established an Asphalt Plant for the Department of Public Works (now Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC). This was done to ensure the regular and easy maintenance of the roads.

5. Multi-Modal Transport System

In July 1983, two commercial passenger boats christened “Baba Kekere and Itafaji” to run the Mile 2 – Marina (CMS) route via the lagoons were inaugurated by his government to mark the official launch of the Lagos State ferry services.

6. Establishment of the First State Traffic Management Authority (Road Marshals)

The first State Traffic Management Authority (Road Marshal) in Lagos state was established during the administration of Governor Jakande.

7. Lagos Metroline Project

The idea of a metro-line system for Lagos state was first conceived by Governor Lateef Jakande. It became necessary with the exploding population of the state, and the need for a more effective urban mass transit system.

However, the project was cancelled by the General Mohammadu Buhari-led military government after they seized power on the 31 December 1983.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Got Two Job Offers Today. Please Advice On Which To Choose by Scetrocom: 7:14pm On May 06, 2019
Samakus:
Hi guys. I have never been more confused in my life than today.
I lost my contract job on the 28th of March 2018. Since then, I have been networking and applying for jobs online too.

Fast forward to today, I got offer letter from a private firm I did interview with 2 weeks ago and I was asked to resume tomorrow, May 7th. Now today again, a federal university I submitted my CV with (man know man thing) contacted me that my name is on the latest employment list released. Both jobs have almost the same salary. I'm confused like kilode! I don't know what to do. My mind is tilting towards the federal job but it will require me to relocate while the private firm's own is located in my state of residence.

I have never been this confused in my life. The private firm's employment offer demands two weeks notice before I resign or they will hold my guarantors. Please advise dispassionately. I have been looking for work for nearly two months. Now, it's coming as a confusion to me.

Mods please move this to front page. I need to think properly. Opportunities like this don't come twice

My candid advise is to go for federal job. First, There is job security. Second, you will be able to pursue your carrier in an academic environment. Please, think twice before you stake your carrier on private job, they can change everything for you overnight and you won't be able to do anything. Multinational company did it for me and my colleagues and we are now at home licking our wound after our initial gra gra.

Barbed wires don't deter thieves because they are never turned on. A Friend of mine has a customised drone armed with 2 pistols and a taser. His house has several motion sensors that are also solar powered, once motion is detected, the drone hovers around the house and it's on-board artificial intelligence chip from NVIDIA is smart enough to differentiate an animal from an object and a person. Once an unauthorized person is detected via facial recognition technology, it warns you to leave the premises, afterwards, my friend gets a live feed and has the option of shooting the intruder with a pistle or paralys them with a taser, Pretty cool stuff.

I will love that. Can I have your number?

Hmm, please used your wisdom,do not say anything when there is argument, and don't tell her you want to divorce, cus the damage may be out of control.
So there is a adage that says that the name you will give lto a child inside you it is.. stay safe

(Thanks for this beautiful advise)

Op. Please apply wisdom to tackle the situation. Marital unfaithfulness from wife is a serious issue and could claim your life if care is not taking. If you are a strong believer, go and pray seriously about the way forward and seek the intervention of genuine brethren and minister of God that can genuinely assist you in prayer.
Avoid confrontation as much as possible. Meticulously map out how to separate from her on the ground of marital unfaithfulness and ensure you legalise it. Prepare to change your location after divorce and make solid plan for your baby.
I don't support divorce, but when there is marital unfaithfulness and life is under threat, you are free to take a step to prevent the unthinkable.

This man will never cease to amaze me. All the traffic light have stopped working throughout Ibadan for almost a year. Instead of concentrating on fixing them and restore back all our street lightings that have become decorating sticks, you installed 10 security camera to police the whole of Ibadan, is this not a joke taken too far?

Ibadan is 3080 square km without considering its sub urban like akinyele, moniya, ona ara, this is 3 times the size of the whole Lagos state in term if land mass. I don't know what would be the effect of 10 camera to cover such area.

If you're searching for responsible governance and efficiency, look the way of Japan and China. They can literally build a whole city in one month to cater for a set of citizens who are in urgent need of mass accommodation. Is it not in Japan you will see a deep road pothole been filled and "cemented" within 24hrs and an earthquake-damaged road repaired within 8 days? Is it not in Japan you'll see the government sending a train to daily pick up a lone schoolchild who lives in a far-away village? And now China is dismantling a massive bridge overnight?
Here in Nigeria, they'll set up a technical committee to look into it for 6 months. Submit the report to a minister who in turn submits to the President. The president takes 3 months to study it. Thereafter, he says the cost will be included in the following year's budget. And so on and so forth. Two years running, they'll start telling us they are waiting for foreign investors to initiate concessionary agreements. grin

Lagos-Ibadan is still under rehabilitation after 5 years the job was started.

Hello,

Please I need your advice on how to make a decision that will not hurt me in the future. I am a graduate but due to the situation of the country, it was difficult for me to get a standard job so I resigned where I was managing and decided to learn trading.

During the period of "No job frustration" I was assisting my mother in her school and teaching Basic 5 & 6. That period, I attracted more students to her school and parents were giving me good Commendation.

After a year, I went out to learn trading and when I came back, I decided to start something no matter how small.
I have started sale of Electrical parts, though I have not gotten much customers.

Just last night, my mum called me and said she would want me to take over her school business, that she is getting too old to continue. She said she will not be happy if I abandon the school and let it die like that. On my own part, I want to grow my business and I need more concentration on it. Now, I have a divided plan.

I don't want to abandon my business plans and at the same time, I dont want her stuggle to just die like that...

I need your advice, please.

Well, I can found someone who will run the school for you base on agreement. The person will be running the school with or without your supervision and profit will be share base on % per term.
You will be free to pursue your dream without having headache about the school. You can contact me on 08024251225.

No one. I repeat, no one has the monopoly of violence and I advice the people of Benue or elsewhere to not just sit and wait for the next Fulani attack.

You take the fight to them.

Why are the Fulani's not trying this rubbish in the core Niger Delta? Just look at the pictures of dead babies and women I keep seeing from Benue and Taraba.

Buhari you are a weak leader and a very big disappointment at that.

Freaking Moro.n

I blame the people of Benue,Taraba and Adamawa for this.

Meanwhile, it's been revealed it took the police 75minutes to enter his hotel room after the shooting stopped. See the alleged pic below...

I don't believe this man killed himself. How can he shot himself in the chest and still managed to shoot himself again in the head?
The fact is that this massacre was actually perpetrated by an organised terrorist group who used this man to cover their tracks.
