The famous Nigerian Movie Star, Bob-manuel Udogwu has announced the plans of Anambra State Government to raise new stars and create employment opportunities through entertainment.

Announcing the details of the maiden event, Hon Udogwu who is also the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano on Creative Media said a classical show has been scheduled to hold on Saturday, May 30, 2015 to kick start series of creative entertainment programmes mapped out for talent discovery and development in the State.

“The event is called ‘Naija New Dawn Show: Raising new stars & creating jobs in the entertainment industry’.

“It will be first of its kind & the beginning of series of creative entertainment programmes I have mapped out for talent discovery & development in the state.

“There will be competition & winners in Acting, Music, Modelling & stand-up comedy.”

According to information handbills shared by the organizers, forms are available for just five hundred naira (N500) in all higher institutions in the state.

The main event at Marble Arch Hotel, Awka will be preceded by auditions on 22nd, 23rd & 28th May respectively at Summit Splendour Hotel, Awka.

ANAMBRA State, yesterday, emerged the overall winner of 2015 Nigeria National Petroleum Company, NNPC, National Quiz competition for the South East geopolitical zone of the country.

The state will now represent the zone at the national quiz competition coming up later in the year in Abuja.
According to the results of the competition, Anambra pulled a total of 55 points to beat other schools from Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi and Imo states to emerge victorious in the keenly contested quiz involving subjects such as English language, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.
The break-down shows that Anambra got 55 points, Imo 45 points, Ebonyi and Enugu 40 points each, while Abia State got 30 points.

In a chat with newsmen in Abakaliki, National Coordinator of the programme, Mr. Olutayo Sanni, said NNPC was paying attention to the National Quiz competition because the exercise was an instrument for enhancing science education in the country.

IGP visits Governor Obiano

Anambra State, The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase friday paid a courtesy visit on Governor Willie Obiano.

The IGP who was accompanied on the visit by top ranking Officers of the Nigerian Police was received by the Governor at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia. Speaking after meeting with the Inspector-General of Police, Governor Obiano said the Police remained a veritable tool in his administration's sustained onslaught against criminals which has made the state the best in the country in terms of security.

The Governor noted that through his administration's organised system of crime-fighting, it has been able to prove that with proper motivation and assistance, the Nigerian Police can effectively live up to its responsibility of protecting the live and property of the citizenry.

Congratulating Mr Arase on his confirmation as the new IGP, Governor Obiano said the honour would spur him to greater and laudable achievements in the nation's security sector, assuring him of the continued support and partnership of the State Government.

He reassured Ndi Anambra that having made security its priority, his administration is committed to sustaining efforts at ensuring that the State remained free from the clutches of armed robbers and kidnappers as well as making her habitable for the investors he is attracting to grow her economy.

Earlier, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Arase said the visit was to thank Governor Obiano for his uncommon intervention and reforms in the State Security Sector and to encourage him to do more. He noted that through his avowed commitment to rid the State of criminals, the Present Administration has exhibited genuine resolve towards improving the lot of Ndi Anambra and entrenching Peace and Stability which are preconditions for meaningful development to ensue.

The IGP also commended the Community-Police partnership approach adopted by the state government towards policing all nooks and crannies of the state and called on Governors across the Country to adopt the model to intensify the efficiency of Police efforts in their various states.

The Inspector-General of Police had earlier inspected facilities put in place by the present administration that have aided the huge success it has so far recorded in the area of security which included bay stations, Over 120 Command and Control Patrol Vehicles, Communication gadgets, the Central Security Control room amongst others.

Igwebuike Grammar School Awka, has emerged the overall winner at the National Quiz competition for Junior Secondary Schools in Nigeria.

Organized by the Association of Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), the School came first in a keenly contested quiz competition in Abuja, after taking the first position in Umuahia as the South East Zonal Champions, to represent the zone at the national level.
Briefing the press in Awka, the Principal of the School, Mr Gabinus Ukah, noted that his school is the first to win the competition back to back after winning the 2014 edition in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Principal, expressed delight that Anambra State under Governor Willie Obiano, has remained one of the few states in the country that pay salaries of civil servants with ease, and further used the opportunity to describe the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA as a party which all right thinking Igbos, should embrace as their identity.

On his part, the Principal of comprehensive Secondary School, Nawfia, Mr Christian Ezeamaku, while congratulating the school on the victory at the National Quiz Competition in Abuja said that his school will work hard to be next year’s champions at the National Quiz Competition.
Mr Ezeamaku, used the forum to speak ahead of this year’s children’s day celebration, urging youths to utilize the annual celebration to reflect on their expected role as leaders of tomorrow.

Jonathan, Buhari, Obiano, Others Mourn Zik’s First Son, Chukwuma Azikiwe

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday commiserated with the family of Nigeria’s first president, the late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, over the death of his son, Dr Chukwuma Azikiwe.

A statement by presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, noted that Jonathan extended his sincere condolences to the government and people of Anambra State, as well as the immediate family of the deceased.

Abati said: “President Jonathan believes that the late Azikiwe, who was also the Owelle of Onitsha, lived a fulfilled life by sustaining the humanitarian and leadership legacies of his father as a mobiliser, leader, philanthropist and a highly respected voice in his community.

“The president prays that the Almighty God will grant the soul of the departed peaceful rest, and comfort the family he left behind”.

Also, the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, has described the death of Ambassador Chukwuma Bamidele Azikiwe as a sad development and an exit of a great Nigerian who was brought up in the best tradition of national unity and genuine African values.

General Buhari, in a condolence message made available to the media in Abuja yesterday, said that “with the demise of Chukwuma Azikiwe, a gentleman has left a turbulent world. Ambassador Azikiwe was a thoroughbred Nigerian citizen who chose a private life after a distinguished diplomatic career in Nigeria’s Foreign Service.

“There is no doubt that it was Ambassador Azikiwe’s humane and refined qualities that made it possible for him to step into the big traditional shoes of his great father, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe as the Owelle of Onitsha.”

The president-elect said with the demise of the Owelle, he had lost a friend who cared for him and often found time to visit him at home in Kaduna.

While condoling with the Azikiwe family, General Buhari urged the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nna’meka Ugochukwu Achebe and the entire people of Onitsha Royal Kingdom to take heart and bear the loss with fortitude.

Meanwhile, Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has condoled with the family of the late first president of Nigeria, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, over the demise of the first son of the elder statesman, Chief Chukwuma Bamidele Azikiwe.

Also, several sympathisers, including a former commissioner for works in Anambra State, Chief (Mrs) Chika Ibeneme, special adviser to the Rivers State governor on statistics and strategic planning, Mr. Okey Okirie, were at the late sage’s Inosi-Onira, Onitsha country home to commiserate with the bereaved family.

The younger Azikiwe who took over his father’s traditional title of Owelle of the ancient Onitsha kingdom passed on last Sunday after a brief illness at the nearby Boromeo Hospital at the age of 75. He left behind his wife and two child.

Though this reporter could ascertain the name of his wife as at the time of filing this report yesterday, names of his children as given by the source are,Ikechukwu and Chinwe.

Gov. Obiano in a condolence message stated that he was shocked when he got the news of the demise of Chief Chukwuma Azikiwe, a 1964 Harvard Business graduate whom he described as a political leader in his own right. He also Condoled the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe and the entire Onitsha traditional cabinet over the demise of the Owelle.

If your pocket is deep then plan for Greenwood city. That hood will host the cream dela cream of the Igbo race. Psquare brothers, I was told are already speculating for a choice piece of land at the Greenwood for their mansion. I heard also they want to invest in the hospitality industry.
