Nwanne nothing was abandoned. Obiano carried on with all the projects including the malls and hotels. Agulu resort particularly is over 95% completed, landscape is going on right now at Onitsha mall. Same also with Awka and Nnewi malls--work is ongoing!

As for Obiano he is very much on track. As happyjoe said the new transport company is a limited liability company unlike ANIDS which is equally doing well but can do better if it were limited company. As a limited company, it will be so organized in a manner that will be self sustainable and profit oriented Unlike others before it.

Obiano's approach on all fronts as massive infrastructural development, aviation, transport, oil/gas, agriculture, industrialization etc is highly commendable and worthy of emulation.

Presently Awka is a huge construction site. A lot of road reconstruction is ongoing along with the 3 flyovers and wide road dual carriageway networks inside the greenwood city. Its an emerging California.

Team ABS wins award at BBC value of airtime workshop

Team ABS (Anambra Broadcasting Service) led by Uche Nworah (MD/CEO) and Uche Obitube (Head of Onitsha station) won a digital audio recorder for outstanding presentation in vision, mission and core values of an organisation on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the BBC Value of airtime workshop held at Protea Hotel, VI, Lagos.

Mr Nworah thanked the BBC for the equipment and said that the organisation will put it to good use. He also praised the BBC for putting together the workshop for its partner stations saying that the new insights gained and skills learnt will lead to better content development.

A silent revolution is going on in Akili Ozizor, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State courtesy of the Senator-elect for Anambra North, Princess Stella Oduah.

Sitting on a 600-hectare land area, equipment worth billions of naira have been installed, while others were at various levels of completion. Fish ponds are springing up everywhere within the farm, while the latest technological inventions in agriculture are being used to ensure maximum productivity.

For each hectare, 20 people are engaged thereby creating jobs for 12,000 people, excluding those to be engaged in the processing and storage plants. The project, according to Oduah’s vision, is not restricted to Akili community but will be replicated in several communities in Anambra North district. The idea is to curtail unemployment, eradicate poverty and develop communities because in industrialisation, agriculture comes with development. For the fact that there are some communities in Anambra North that do not have light and water, one cannot site factories without the two necessities. So, automatically it will come with all these benefits for the people.

While on a recent inspection of facilities at the agric village in her country home, Akili Ozizor, Princess Oduah said the project was a practical demonstration of all she had been preaching were possible.

“This exemplifies the fact that all the visions are realizable and not a pipe dream. It is not campaign promises too and for one to demonstrate that, it must be showcased like this. In kick-starting this project, far from boasting, we have the largest fish farm here. We also have the largest hatchery that in terms of production, we can raise 2.5 million birds every day. That is huge and that will go a long way to empower the young fishermen that we want to train professionally to go into fishery. When it comes to processing, we have more than 15 processing plants in place for pepper, tomatoes, corn, cassava flower, yam starch and maize flower, among others. The essence again is to demonstrate that industrialization is also possible.

“The corns, tomatoes and all other products to be processed come from the farm. In the South-East geopolitical zone, Anambra North produces more yams and cassava than any of the senatorial zones in the five states of the South-East but what we don’t have is the enabling environment to add value to these crops. And because we are seasonal farmers, they perish. They cultivate and as they harvest, the products perish. When you then look at the effort put in farming, it is not commensurate with the revenue that accrues to the farmers at the end of their toils, which is a serious discouragement.

“Mine is to encourage farmers to not only continue farming but for them to do it in a mechanised way. Not only that; it is my duty to also guarantee them the purchase of their farm products and that is the essence of the processing machines. To ensure that whatever they produce will not perish, but will be absorbed into the factories that will process them while they still get the market value.

“Clusters of farmers’ cooperatives will be formed in each community so that whosoever is planting in each community will be identified and the machines to process the crops are already in place. The next step is to have clusters of these processing machines in every community. Each community will have some crops they specialize in producing depending on their soil texture, innate skills and their passion. There are some crops a particular community may like to be planting but the other community may not like it but with our engagement of advisors who will give them the professional advice on the economic values of those crops, they will choose right but what is key is that our farmers will go home happier and wealthier.

“This is not something to be read in a book only, it is not a fairytale or also rocket science. It is easy to say that N1 billion is coming into agriculture, but we want to see that translate into life where these things actually happen. The farms can be seen and located, crops will actually be planted and the impact will be seen in the communities because if it doesn’t happen, it becomes the usual pack of lies politician or government tells the people. The time for those kinds of lies is gone for good in our socio-political climate because the people are now wiser,” she said.

CJ, you got the point I was trying to make. The whole essence of development is spreading it out to the inner most part of the society. The same reason I commend the total road projects across all communities in Anambra.

This will encourage people to move towards those locations than concentrating in the major cities of the state.

As for Agulu Resort, according to the master plan Agulu town falls within the Awka Capital Territory.

Like I said earlier the entire Anambra South does not have such facility of that magnitude as can easily be found in Anambra Central and Anambra North. So its a welcome development to accommodate guests, occasions and events in that region.

Let the development spread out.

Again, part of the disasterous mentality of Nigeria of concentrating every thing in Lagos or Abuja is rubbing off on us.

He may not make more money by siting his hotel at Umuchu than Onitsha. But it might be solving an important logistic problem for him. Besides, didn't Peter Obi site a hotel in Agulu? I don't believe everything should be in Onitsha, Nnewi or Awka. We must and should encourage every town to develop.

I noticed a lot of inner road works and upgrade around 3-3 and Trans-Nkisi. This is a smooth ride!

I don't think it is about Umuchu but Anambra south. The entire Anambra south does not have an ordinary 2 star hotel.

All the big hotels are located in Anambra Central where you have bulk of the hotels including the 5 star Agulu Resort and Anambra North where you have another 5 star Onitsha Resort (Raddison Blu).

I think its a good thing to have at least a 4 star hotel like this in Anambra south which has none up till now except this new one.

Remember Anambra south has the highest number of super rich individuals in Anambra State and by extension SE. They need some thing world class as this to entertain their numerous visitors and host their occasions.

The governor of Anambra State, Willy Obiano, has appealed to the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to help address the problems affecting the South East, and to appoint its people into key positions regardless of their political affiliations.
Mr. Obiano said the region will support the government of Mr. Buhari, despite the outcome of the March 28 election which saw him and his All Progressives Congress, APC, losing in the South East.

Mr. Obiano made the appeal Friday when he visited Mr. Buhari at his residence in Abuja.
The governor said he believed Mr. Buhari would not limit his search to APC members whenever he gives out appointments.
“I suspect that the President is not going to give appointment to only people from his party because everybody would support him and so he has to consider people from the other parties so that we can all embrace the change,” he said after a brief meeting with Mr. Buhari.
The governor said he had pleaded for the consideration of people from Anambra state and the South East in general when the president-elect settles down to make appointments.

“We also pleaded in the area of appointment for the people of Anambra and of course for people from the south East be it Ministerial, Ambassadorial and what have you,” he said.
The Anambra governor said he congratulated Mr. Buhari on his victory.
“Well, I came to congratulate His excellency, the President – elect, on his victory and I am also here to reassure him that Anambra and the south East would support him.
“I also pleaded with him on some pressing problem that are of importance to the south east like the second Niger bridge and some of the federal roads,” he said.
Mr. Obiano said like Mr. Buhari, he believes in change. He said his government has brought “change” to the security structure in Anambra state.
“I will always support things that would bring change to improve the well-being of Ndi Anambra and Nigeria as a whole,” he said.

23 Anambra teachers, others jet out to Singapore for vocational/technical training.


As part of efforts to revamp the 11 vocational and technical colleges in Anambra State, the state government, has sponsored 23 teachers, including principals, and administrators from the Ministry of Education, MoE, on a study-trip to Singapore.

South East Voice gathered that the training became necessary in a bid to enhance the four pillars of the administration of Governor Willie Obiano, through technical and vocational education.

Speaking, some of the teachers and principals selected from the 11 colleges, expressed optimism that the visit would go a long way in bringing about massive development in the state, especially in the area of producing the needed and qualified manpower among the students, after the courses.

The Vice Principal (Administration), Nigerian Science and Technical College, Nnewi, Mrs. Uzoma Okeke said:

‘’When I get to Singapore, I expect to see how technical and vocational trainings are run according to best global practices. I hope to bring back the knowledge to improve our school system.

‘”Most importantly, I want to see how the institutions we are visiting run the theoretical and practical aspects of their curriculum, so that when we come back, we can introduce same in our schools.’’ Also, the Head, Department of Technical College, Umunze, Simon Nwafor, said: ‘’My expectation is for us to see and learn what we need to improve the technical and vocational educational system.

“We have had remarkable improvements since the present administration came in, especially in terms of human capacity building, staff welfare, provision of equipment needed to enhance teaching and learning in our colleges. So, with this study-trip, I feel it is another step ahead for better things to come.’’

Also, in the team are the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oby Okeke; Commissioner for Education, Professor Kate Omenugha; Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Dr. Beatrice Okonkwo; Chairman, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Nzeemeaka Olisa;
Chairman, Anambra State Post-Primary School Services Commission, ASPPSSC, Lady Joy Ulasi; Coordinator, Anambra State Economic Think-Tank, ANET, Mac Attasie; the Project Coordinator, Anambra State Education Programme Investment Project, ASEPIP, Charly Okeke as well as the Director, Higher Technical/Vocational Department, Dr. Laz Okafor, among others.

Speaking to South East Voice, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Omenugha, said that the visit was necessary to give the technical and vocational educational system a facelift.

‘’We are taking teachers of the Anambra State Technical College on a study-visit to Singapore. When Governor Obiano assumed office, we noticed that technical and vocational education were at the lowest ebb in the state. Among the 11 technical colleges, not even one had accreditation with the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE.

“So, we are now developing the needed human resources through the development of our technical colleges, so that the products of these colleges will be ready-made to take up employments. Again, we noticed that the standard of the students cannot be higher than that of their teachers, so we kicked-off serious human capacity building programmes for the teachers.

“We have done a lot of local trainings for them in the last one year, and now, we are taking them to Singapore to ensure best practices in technical and vocational education. The idea is that when these teachers are exposed to international best practices, they will be able to impact same to the students, thus producing graduates who are employable.’’

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Kiara College, Endi Ezengwa, whose firm consults on technical and vocational education for the state, said Singapore was chosen for the study-visit ‘’because it is a very good example in the world on Technical and Vocational Education, TVED.

They have working systems that are worth emulating all over the world. When we get to Singapore, we will visit the ITE Educational Services, an institution in-charge of technical and vocational educational services in Singapore.’’
