Weren't the FA chairmen from West Africa a part of the decision making? If they make public how they voted you'll be surprised how those men voted. The scheme was carried out easily cause these men don't take women football and gave grade completion seriously. I'm guessing it began to dawn on them when people started protesting online and they themselves saw it play out in reality. If this was a ploy taken behind their back at least one of them would have expressed their objection publicly; so far none has.

The good thing though is that this isn't likely to happen again.

I hope it doesn't happen again because nothing good has been achieved with the dubious method...

Anyway it's a pity that Ghana and Ivory Coast were made to pay the price..

An AWCON Tournament with these teams there (Ghana, Cote D'Ivoire) would have been great and intriguing to watch.. At least we for see one group of Death but right now don't think there would be any..

Info have it that the immediate past CAF President that instituted this format for all age grade and female football.. He changed the format to qualifiers by region, that's why you have Nigeria Playing her West Counterpart in the AWCON Qualifiers. The only exception is the Male Senior National Teams..

But to my own observation the U17 and U20 Women's National Teams are currently not using same format used for the AWCON Qualifications..

Now it's clear that CAF where trying to kick the Falcons out and also reduce the fire power of the West African teams.. At the same time blowing opportunities to have strong teams to represent the Continent at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup...

Can't she be loaned out to a team outside of Spain in order that she can be match fit? This season is almost over anyway and pre-season would start soon.
Not only are Real Betis hurt by this, but also Nigeria.

She train's with the team, but she said right now she plays with their team B just to keep fit.. Don't think there's any need for a loan move because just 7games left for the league to run out.

I guess Roosa Ariyo will also benefits a lot from Babajide style of Play..

I am glad that you are now starting to see what I had been saying about her all this while. To me, she would absolutely walk into the SF and own that left flank. She checks ALL the boxes:

Pace to burn. Check.
Crossing the ball. Check.
Ball Control & Skills. Check.
Tactical Intelligence. Check.
On and off the ball play. Check.
Physical strength. Check.

For me, Rinsola is one of three remaining pieces of the SF jigsaw puzzle - the other two are the Vicky Lopez kid and Debbie Ajibola (provided Nigeria make it and have a good run at the U20WWC).

The scary thing is that's not the best game I have seen her play. She can play better than that. Her physical play will help take some pressure off Oshoala, who will profit immensely from those wicked passes Rinsola can deliver. She could also be lethal with her freekicks. Loved the way she controlled her play during the game - she knew when to explode with pace and when to deliver excellent one touch passes. She made Toni Payne (who is an excellent player in her own right) look MIA on the right flank - Toni had to defend most of the time because Rinsola took the Seville RB to the cleaners.

Imagine, if you can, our SF left flank with LB - Patty George, LCB - Ashleigh Plumptre, LCM - Ajibade or Payne or Vicky and LW - Rinsola Babajide. They will destroy any team on the continent. Any!

Rinsola is not a 'nice to have' on our SF team. She is a 'Must have'.

It seems you just finished watching the whole game video i posted.. I approached her a year ago if am not mistaking, her yanga then was too much which made me lose interest in her.

I know she hasn't really gotten back to her usual self but by the time she finds her feet at Betis, I bet should would definitely be unplayable..

She really gave the Sevilla FC right back a tough time, which made Tony Payne to play more defensively, Payne had to cover more for their right back.. it's good am beginning to Like her back because she's really an excellent Player with her style of Play Asisat Oshoala or anyone who will be playing the top9 will definitely enjoy Scoring cause her crosses into the box look so dangerous just like the way Lieke Marten and Graham Hansen does it at Barcelona Femenino...

Real Betis Féminas will not be able to field one of their winter signings , at least, until next season in the Primera Iberdrola. This is the striker born in Finland but also with Nigerian nationality, Roosa Ariyo.

The 27-year-old footballer signed until 2023 with the Verdiblanco team in the last transfer window from UDG Tenerife. With Tenerife, she did not enjoy many opportunities despite the fact that the island team signed her in the summer and gave her a contract until 2023. She stepped on the green during the first round in nine games and accumulated 138 minutes.

Precisely, the number of games played with UDG Tenerife are what prevents it from being aligned with Betis in the remainder of the campaign in the First Division . This is specified in article 126 of the General Regulations : "When the team of origin and destination are assigned to the same division and, where appropriate, group, those footballers who have been lined up in the original for eight or more official matches of any kind, regardless of the time of the same ". And furthermore, it indicates: "The spirit of this rule cannot be eluded byregistration in dependent teams or subsidiary clubs for their alignment in superiors or sponsors ". Therefore, Roosa Ariyo could not have a record of the subsidiary to later play in the first team.

Important slip of the Verdiblanca sports management that will not be able to count on one of its reinforcements in the winter market in the league, at least until next season.

Depends on the perspective. Nkwocha achieved much playing for the Falcons. Honestly, at the senior level, Oshoala is not that spectacular. At the youth, club, and international level she has been quite phenomenal but there are many players currently in the falcons who in all honestly have contributed far more than she had.

Opranozie had been a better forward with more strategic goals than Oshoala. Okobi and Odega also rank ahead of her in their contributions to the team. So also people like Ebi, Ebere, Ohale, Chikwelu etc.

When Nkwocha was around, she was a playmaker as well as a scorer. No doubt she had many excellent players like Stella Mbachu and co, Nkwocha was just phenomenal and her absence could make or mar the team. However, in all honesty, since Oshoala's introduction, she had not held that type of mantle. Okobi was the star in 2015, we could say the 2019 star was nnadozie, as for 2018 and 2016 AWCON, the Falcons did not really have any outstanding players except flashes from Ordega once in a while. However, Oparanozie playing with injury in 2016 scored 2 strategic goals against SA (semi-finals) and Cameroun (finals).

2014 was a walk at the park for the Falcons and they would have won without Oshoala and Oparanozie (I am not negating the stellar performances of the two at the completion). I just wished to point out that while Oshoala had achieved international success, she had not relly translated this to the Falcons levels and honestly, one cannot really compare her contribution to the team with the contributions of Nkwocha .

Has Asisat Oshoala surpassed Perpetua Nkwocha as Super Falcons and Africa's greatest women's player ever?

When the ex- Sunnanå SK forward won the last of her four African Women's player of the year awards in 2011, not many believed the feat could be matched, but 11 years later, the story is different.

The Super Falcons are the greatest women's football team in Africa, and it is only normal for them to have produced so many great players.
Mercy Akide, Cynthia Uwak, Florence Omagbemi and Precious Dede are some of the big names to come out of Nigeria and Africa.

However, while these names are great players in their own right, none matches up to Perpetua Nkwocha.

Although the likes of Akide and Omagbemi made the game popular in the country, Nkwocha took it to another level with her performances and achievements.

The 46-year-old represented Nigeria at eight CAF Africa Women's Cup of Nations (AWCON), winning a record six times and finishing as the top scorer on three occasions.
On one of those occasions (2004), she scored nine goals, including four against Cameroon – a record that still stands today.

Nkwocha also represented Nigeria at four FIFA Women's World Cup and three Olympic Football events, while she also won for CAF Women's Player of the Year awards, which was a record at that time.

By the time Nkwocha retired from football in 2015, she had cemented her status as the greatest African women's player of all time, and it was unfathomable to think her achievements would be matched or surpassed soon.

However, seven years after her retirement, another Nigerian by the name of Oshoala has matched, if not surpassed, Nwkwocha's achievements.

Oshoala's journey to surpassing her fellow countrywoman started a year before she retired. The 27-year-old's breakout campaign came at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, where she finished as the tournament's top scorer with seven goals.

After the competition, it was clear that Oshoala would be a threat to Nkwocha's title. Her profile continued to rise that same year as she finished as Super Falcons' second top scorer at the 2014 AWCON, which Nigeria won.
It is important to note that both Oshoala and Nkwocha were in the squad that won the competition in 2014, which made it seem like a passing of the baton.

Both players also represented Nigeria at the 2015 Women's World Cup, but Oshoala outshined her older rival, who retired after the competition.

Although Nigeria failed to qualify for the knockout stages, Oshoala was one of the team's scorers in the 3-3 draw against Sweden, which was the only game they picked up a point.

Following Nkwocha's retirement, the spotlight was now on Oshoala, and it is something she has taken in her stride.

She has added two more continental titles to the one she won in 2014 while also playing at another World Cup.

However, Oshoala's biggest individual achievement is winning four CAF Women's player of the year awards - the same number Nkwocha won before retiring.
It is a remarkable achievement for the 25-year-old, considering the short time it took her to match her countrywoman's record.

And with Oshoala just 27, she is on course to break the tie this year. But it is not just the CAF awards that put Oshoala ahead of her older rival.

For all her greatness at the international level, Nkwocha did not have a great club career. The ex-Super Falcons star played for just Sunnanå SK outside of Nigeria, scoring just 65 goals for the club.

In contrast, Oshoala has had a stellar club career since leaving the shores of the country in 2015. The 27-year-old has played for some of Europe's top clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal, while she also had a successful stint in China.

Oshoala currently plays for Barcelona Femeni, who are the best club in the world right now. She won the treble with the club last campaign, and she is the club's current top scorer this season with 23 goals in 25 games.
Although it could be argued that Nkwocha played at a time when women's football was still growing, as many of these top European clubs did not have a women's team, it still does not take away what Oshoala has achieved in a short period.

And also, considering their achievements and the fact that Oshoala still has many more years left, it is hard to deny that the Barcelona star has already cemented her status as the greatest women's player to come out of Africa.

Nkwocha will always be known as the player that changed the level of women's football in Africa, but Oshoala will be remembered as the player that took the game to an unprecedented height.

The Polish Women League isn't as bad as you have seen it, Ranked 21 by UEFA based on the UEFA Women's Champions League, far ahead of the Israel and the Turkish league...

You've brought this young lady's name up severally and I have tried watching the few videos online of her.
Honestly, not particularly impressed as I am not sure what value she can bring to the team, considering she currently plays for a weak Polish league and it seems she has been there for a few years and has not had any upward mobility since (i.e. moving to a more competitive league). One also has to consider the fact that even though she attended the Abuja camp, it seems she really didn't impress the coaching staff - that in itself is very telling.

No personal affinity or whatever, Have only met her on two occasions few years ago while she was playing for Bayelsa Queens. I really did like her Physic because she's a well built striker..
Coach Randy commended her performance during the last Camp in Abuja and also said he would like to have her more in the team. she did well and she has been in Poland for over a year now moving from Belarus. Isn't that bad having the top Scorer of the Polish Women League in the Superfalcon Squad...

She's a very Physical and quick forward, deadly in front of goal. She brings in the attributes of Oparanozie, am just judging from Randy's Voice..

One of her interview which she said she's know too well that she's a big player (in terms of size) so she always work out and train hard to make sure she's in Shape..

You're analysis is spot on, even though I would have scored them slightly differently.

Cameroon has not refreshed their team in quite a while, and the fact that Ghana took them to the cleaners during the ABC Tourney proved that. I think they may no longer be as strong as they once were. Will score them a 5/10.

Morocco could be one of those 'sleeper' teams, meaning no one rates them as a threat and they sneak their way into the final. They are the hosts and would really prepare for this tournament. They could be a dangerous side to a team not taking them seriously. They did well in the ABC and also the Women's CL. I will rate them a 7/10.

Zambia is a 2 player team and will agree with your score.

South Africa is a tricky one for me. Yes, they played well in the ABC but I feel they were 'advantaged' by Nigeria's foolish overconfidence, as well as our very poor start to the game. Yes, their winning the Women's CL will be a big boost for them, BUT I still feel they will not be able to handle Nigeria's firepower. The pace in the Nigerian squad now is second to none on the continent. Bare in mind that several of our key young players actually missed the ABC and Nigeria has since gone through a major refresh since then, with several key players now in the squad. Also, we just took out 2 of arguably the top 5 countries in African football (Ghana and Ivory Coast) en-route to our qualification. I just don't see how any country on the continent now (SA inclusive) can stack up to Nigeria.
I would have scored them a 6.5/10.

Again, my opinion here and welcome any dissentions.

I'm not really worried about all these teams except for Morocco who are the the host and having a quality technical bench... The still lake the big games experience though but am very certain they would qualify for the World Cup... It would be a Surprise to me if they don't...


Upfront we already have great strikers who can do the job anyday anytime... The team just need more Cohesion.

You're 100% correct, 2016 set also did well except the first half against South Africa and the Final against Cameroon...

2014 AWCON in Namibia Semi Final game against South Africa, Superfalcons won this game (2-1) with Asisat Oshoala scoring both goals.

As for the Superfalcons, The pressure of loosing the trophy to a New Champion will be there and also on Randy Waldrum because he would want to deliver, the Experience is there and our Squad currently have depth and Africa Ultimate Striker. As it stands I don't think we would be depending on any player because there are capable legs to do the job in their absence. ����

Cameroon is more of a physical side, from 2018 till date they tends to depends more on Nchout Ajara and Aboudi Onguene.. mark them out they're gone though they have a good Central Defensive Midfielder Raissa Feudjo who injury have been disturbing for some time now.. I will score them 7/10

Morocco is the host with a young team, though they have gone abroad to poach for their foreign born players, they have about 20 foreign based players mostly based in Switzerland, France and one of their star player playing for Tottenham Hotspur WFC.. They look technically discipline but lack the big stage experience, their coach is there to instill that in the team but they find it very hard to go toe to toe with physical sides.. I will score them 6/10

Zambia is more like a Barbara Banda team, remove her then they're down to a half team, remove Chanda then they become flat.. A good coach can easily beat them if he or she knows how to handle them.. They're very quick especially Banda and chanda but not really a tactically discipline side.. I will score them 5.5/10


South Africa look to pose more threat for the Superfalcons but I bet we won't let what happened at the Aisha Buhari Cup repeat itself... Looking at their Squad they don't have that depth as we do but will definitely be banking on Thembi kgatlana as their star and Key player.. Their defense is prone to errors too especially Mbane #13 who gets erratic when the pressure is too much. But they're going to be a difficult side to beat right now because they're more like a Compact team... I will score them 8/10

South Africa are the best team in Africa, now they need a title to prove it..

With their place at the CAF Africa Women's Cup of Nations confirmed, South Africa coach Desiree Ellis says claiming a first-ever title is the only objective for Africa's most in-form team.

Banyana Banyana sealed their place at the tournament in Morocco with a 3-1 aggregate win over Algeria, joining Nigeria and Cameroon as the only sides to have appeared in each of the tournament's 12 editions so far.

Two goals, from Hilda Magaia and Thembi Kgatlana, in the first leg had given the Ellis' side a handy advantage going into the second leg. It was one they would not relinquish, as Linda Motlhalo's second half penalty kick cancelled out Sylia Kuoi's strike on the stroke of halftime.

The result -- added to a 13-0 aggregate win over Mozambique in the first round of qualifiers -- meant the South African women will go into the tournament in July as Africa's most in-form side.

Last November, they showed that their good form was no fluke when they beat both West African powerhouses Nigeria and Ghana to win the Aisha Buhari Invitational Tournament in Nigeria.

But Ellis has shaken off the plaudits from that triumph, saying only a win in Morocco would cement Banyana's place as the best team in Africa.

"The African title is a big missing piece," she told ESPN. "We have been runners up, I think five times, and 2018 was most probably the closest. The game in the Final could have gone either way, and penalties is always a lottery.

"We cannot say we are the best team in Africa until we are champions of Africa."

Despite their experience at the tournament, with 12 appearances and five Final appearances, the South African women have never won the title, with Nigeria claiming nine titles and Equatorial Guinea the other two.

Ellis says that the tournament in November gave them the opportunity to assess where they were in relation to the likes of the Super Falcons.

Ellis said: "With Nigeria having been too so many finals before, they obviously have more experience than us but this team is growing and evolving. The more you play together the better it becomes.

"It was a good test for us to get to that tournament to see where we are at. The most important thing was to come to the tournament to win games. After that, the players realized that they could up their level. Our goal was to test ourselves there and to see what we still needed to work on."

Although the AWCON will feature an expanded format of 12 teams for the first time, CAF's new regional qualification format means that two of Africa's top five teams, Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire, who had to compete for one spot with Nigeria, have been eliminated. Former champions Equatorial Guinea also fell by the way side, losing 3-7 on aggregate to Tunisia.

This leaves the tournament with four debutants, three teams making their second appearance, one making their third and one making their fourth. Nigeria and Cameroon are thus left as the toughest tests that Banyana will have to face.

But Ellis is under no illusion that it will be an easy tournament: "I think it is not going to be as easy as people think. Having a 12-team tournament and the format, you could get a top team in the quarterfinals and get knocked out, like what happened in the men's competition.

"So it's not just about winning all your games but also about getting the luck of the draw.

"We also have to have similar if not better preparation than we had in 2018 to make sure we are in the best physical shape that we can be because of the type of football we like to play. And then we have to execute our plans and take it one game at a time."


Nigeria have struggled in recent years, culminating in that home loss to Banyana in the Buhari Cup. But that did not come out of the blue. The Super Falcons also lost to the South Africans in the opening game of the 2018 tournament, and could only draw in regulation time in the Final when both sides met again, triumphing on penalty kicks.

At the Aisha Buhari Cup, they laboured before claiming a 2-0 win over Mali before falling to Banyana. And their nervy epics against both Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire provide worrying signs that the Nigerians are more vulnerable than they have ever been.

Still, Ellis says nothing can be taken for granted where the Super Falcons are concerned and she also remains wary of Cameroon: "Nigeria is going to be there or thereabouts no matter which team they put out.

"They have the pedigree, they have the experience and they will be there. Cameroon is going through a transition but they have quality players and the coach has enough time to get them ready. Let's not forget Morocco, who have a fantastic program, They have shown that they are growing, they are going to be there too.

"We have to make sure that we are ready, and now that qualification is behind us, we need to really go all out to prepare, because we have an even chance like everybody else to win it.

"Having been there in 2018, having come so close, having some new players that are hungry maybe that will drive us to get that gold that has been so elusive over the years."
