1. Thank you for your response. I'm only worried about recent complaints given about the new US Visa scheduling website not recognizing the reference number (on time) given by First Bank.

2. As per age factor, I'll be 30 by next Month. But I've a son who is 7.

Thanks for your honest opinion.
your Age is not an issue. Many people in their mid 30's and even 40 get approved. I started my PhD this year and I am same age as you. Became 30 this month and came in last month. Your employment as a lecturer is a home ties, express how you plan to utilize your degree to improve your career trajectory, start your research group etc when you return. I was also working in a University even as a non academic staff and that was basically my home ties.

Thought as much. People without funding have as much or even better chance of getting approved than people with funding. It’s better not to have funding or scholarships cuz the VO wants someone who’s going to USA to spend his own money
lol don't know where you are getting your stats from. If you carry deficit of like $30k to Lagos or Abuja Embassy chances of denial is 90% especially with no prior travel history. Funding is a very good way to get approved. Approval rate for fully funded is more than 90%. Our economy is in shambles no VO will believe your parents or you can pay $35k for your COA. Very few get approved with huge deficits now

Good Evening All, Hope we all had a stress free day.

Kindly I will like to confirm from people that have been to the embassy before if handbags are allowed inside the embassy or you have to just enter with your document folder.

Thanks in advance…..
Handbags are not allowed. In Abuja you can only go in with your folder containing documents and phone which will be deposited with the security inside after CGI check and you are given a tag for it. In Lagos they say you can't even go in with phone, just your documents. Both both places have people outside who run business with keeping of bags and valuables which is at your own risk as the embassy has no business with them.

But I am a genuine student. It’s my actual plan—I do not plan on staying in the US after my studies. Should I have lied and said something else? Everyone always says to be truthful during the interview, but now you're saying the truth is cliché. What are we meant to do now?
ignoring the post study plan. Funding is most likely denial factor here. You have a deficit of $22k, white people don't believe anyone outside your direct parents maybe to some extent sibling will cough out that amount of money for an extended family member. Remember you are going for undergrad so you will be spending that four times if no other funding comes in subsequent years. That is a lot of money for an Aunt to be paying when she will have her immediate family to cater to. Except you are able to explain maybe you lost your parents and she has been the one taking care of you all these years. Going back with same aunt sponsoring and same deficit will most likely have same outcome. If your partners are alive, using your dad or mum as sponsors is better, your aunt can pay the fees in reality but you use them for the interview process.

I do hear some states in USA (most cold states) do offer fully funded PhD with monthly salary as research assistant. PhD applicant is medical science filed. Anyone can knows how to go about it or Anyone offers such service?
Most PhD programs are funded in the US, does not matter the state. Usually PhD students are funded as Teaching Assistant, Research Assistant or a Fellowship. STEM courses have more funding than the arts and humanities, if you studied a medical and life science related course you can look towards Biomedical science PhD programs. Search on Google or even use Meta AI or ChatGPT to create list of universities in US offering PhD in Biomedical science and related fields. From there you can start going through the school websites one after the other and contact potential supervisors you find their research interesting.

In response to Justwise post on WhatsApp groups. Truth is you can't do date search hunt on Nairaland that is the truth, slots get filled up in 30 secs, the day I secured a slot for interview, it literally took 30 secs for the three slots to be filled up. Whatsapp date hunt group usually have time allocated to all members to check their CGI portal and update the group from morning till night. Anyone hoping to get a date by checking if someone post on Nairaland will be hours late. I understand your own point as unnecessary whatsapp group distracts the thread from it's focus but for date hunt sadly it cannot be viably done here. Maybe a Nairaland date hunt group can be created and moderated.

Hi everyone, I got admitted to Montclair State University for Data Science, and my cost of attendance is $47000. My father is my only sponsor on my I-20, although I intend to mention I also have some personal funds at the interview. I've been working for 3 years and I'm married with no kids yet. I've never traveled out of the country, and my school has refused to give funding until we arrive in the US.

.What are my chances of getting the visa?
.What advice does anyone have for me?

Currently you are on what we call Association of Zero Funding ( AZF) and to be honest, I am in like three active telegram and WhatsApp group for interviews this year and the VO's approval for those with zero funding is like 1/20 especially with deifict above $30k. One VO even told a guy he can go print a bank statement under the bridge when he was explaining his father makes xyz millions and he has the bank statement with the funds available. If you can try to get funding to some extent, even if 20% of your COA, it improves your chances when they see you are funded to some extent ( In Nigeria to be Specific). If you can, defer to spring and find way for them to give you some degree of funding but if not possible, you can go try your luck it is 50/50.

Hello everyone.

Is it possible to make changes to your DS-160 application after submitting it? I have already completed all the remaining steps and gotten my interview date, but I realized I needed to correct something. If not, will creating a new one mean I have to pay the MRV fee again?

You will retrieve the old DS-160 by entering the application ID and click retrieve application on the DS-160 portal. You will enter the security questions as usual then it will tell you that the DS-160 application has already been submitted if you want to modify it, go ahead and accept then you will be given a new application ID, write it down. The new DS160 will be populated with information from the old one, you can go ahead to edit and fill as you wish. When you submit, remember to go update your CGI portal with the new application ID and print before going for interview.

Please help me out, I have another interview in same Abuja early August. I don’t want to mess up like this again. Please your input here will help me greatly.
June 11th
Abuja:
Visa Denied
2nd Attempt
MPH
Louisiana State University Shreveport.
COA: 31,831
Funding: 12,497
Deficit: 19,334

Me: good morning
VO: good morning, hand me your documents
Me: here they are..

VO: who’s funding your deficit
Me: my elder brother, he’s the owner of XYZ block industry and he runs hotel business in my state. He has promised to pay about 12k annually and I am paying the rest.

VO: why this school?
Me: I applied and got other school but I chose this one because of the scholarship.

VO: where do you work?
Me: I work at XYX as a public health officer. It is a non governmental organization locate in xyz state and have their head quarters here in Abuja.

VO: where is your office located:
Me: my office is located at xyz and have their head quarters in Abuja here.

VO: is your wife not traveling with you?
Me: no she’s not, she has a pharmacy shop and needs to take care of our daughter while I am away.

VO: where is your office address
Me: valley xyz, I forgot to mention the number before the address.

VO: Have you been to the US before?
Me: No. I had no reason to travel before.

VO: Do you have anyone in the US?
ME:no

VO: I am sorry I won’t be approving your visa at this time, try again later.
The VO started with funding question because of your deficit and I am not sure you answered it well. Block industry is not really what Americans know, they will think you are talking of Ice block expect the ones that are OG in Nigeria. And also you did not clarify how much your brother makes with his business just an amount he has put down. Something like " My brother will be covering my deficit, he makes an annual income of 100million from his building construction company and xyz business with five branches in Lagos, Abuja and kano. Having a staff strength of 50 personnel. He has put down a $12k deposit for my first year and willing to do the same for the duration of my program. * if VO does not cut you off continue with*.. My elder brother has been the one taking care of my education ever since we lost our parents ( God forbid if they are alive) and highly committed to seeing me through my graduate studies".

Also reason why you choose the school is a red flag. It means you are only taking them because of their monetary offer in scholarship not because they have a better program, more research facilities or academic module. Which means you are more worried about cost

I highlighted your problem in a nutshell. Your bachelor's degree was in History, but you are seeking a master's in Painting? How do those go together? You've essentially abandoned your first degree and only stumbled on your love for painting when you joined an internship. Yeah, you didn't prove that you were a genuine student.

To be frank, anyone that has been to Abuja recently and interviewed by her knows chances of approval is very slim. I know of at least three fully funded PhD she has denied. All these minor intracies can't be the reason. The PhD guys have profile intact infact two have been approved on second attempt within two weeks to two months interval of first attempt.

This is the best motivation ever. Thanks for the encouragement. I'm going for my bsc microbiology then Msc med lab .

Better ignore whatever you read there. They are 99% incorrect. You are better off going for medical lab and specializing in Microbiology, there is no conversion program again. Even with Msc in medlab as long as you don't a BMLS you are not recognized as a Medical Laboratory Scientist. There is no microbiologist job posting a medical lab scientist in Medical Microbiology specialization can't apply for. But the other way round does not apply most times.

Please I was selected to participate in a survey on mygradschoolmatch.com which is a platform for prospective grad school students aspiring to study in the US.

After the survey participants were awarded a $75 reward card and I have found it difficult to use the same here in Nigeria as I was rewarded with a virtual Visa prepaid card which online retail stores don't accept here in Nigeria.
I got something similar last year from them and used the card to buy things on Aliexpress. It won't work for Nigerian stores like Jumia
Please help me exchange this to naira while I forward the details of the reward card.

I want to use the money to add to the amount I have saved already for my E-passport application to facilitate my grad school aspiration.

pls brother's and sisters in the house to apply for a school in the USA what are the current requirements , I will appreciate if anyone can assist please
you need an Academic CV, Statement of purpose for the program you want to apply for, Unofficial or official transcript depends on the school. Then have people that will send recommendation letter on your behalf after applying as you will fill in their details during application.

Please is there anyone that got their visa approved and just finished NYSC ? I want to get an answer on "what are your plans when you return"
Your course of study and program you are going for will answer that. If you are going for a PhD in computer science for instance with a Bachelor's degree in computer science. You can state that " Nigeria is currently experiencing an exponential growth in the tech sector, this has opened up lots of opportunities both in the industry and academia with need for individuals with advanced degree in this field, you intend to return and take up xyz role in one of the emerging startups or take up a lecturing position in computer science with specialization in xyz which the minimum requirement is a PhD for such position.

Except University of Alabama grin that school gave lots of admission for fall 2022 without funding for PhD. Lol
