Following the distinction proposed by religious scholar Henri Corbin in his studies of Sufism, magical realism proposes and generates imaginal worlds, i.e., virtually existing, rather than imagined worlds, i.e., merely fantasized. Magical realism has been developed globally from Russia to Europe to the USA, but it has been primarily identified with South America where Castaneda was born (in Peru) and culturally and sexually imprinted. The premier masterpiece of magical realism, One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, was published in Spanish in 1967 (in English, 1970), less than a year before The Teachings of Don Juan. The proximity of these two books involves far more than a coincidence in timing.

The main difference in these works is that Marquez did not present himself as a character in his fiction, but Castaneda does. The inclusion of the author in the invention of the anthropological novel proved to be a tremendously successful narrative device—but equally so, a huge liability for the author. I reckon that for Castaneda it was a liability he simply could not handle.

Magical realism from South American writers flourished from the mid-1950s onward, a decade before Castaneda developed his unique approach to imaginal writing. Was he reading these works and getting ideas from them? No one knows how and when his creative breakthrough came about...
It appears to have occured around June 1961 when he claimed to have met Don Juan Matus for the first time at a bus station in Yuma, Arizona. Amy Wallace does not speculate on this event, which turned Castaneda toward what he would become: the Quixotic exemplar of his own invention. The chronology on sustainedaction.org indicates that Margaret Runyon, who Castaneda met in 1956 and married in 1960, may have suggested the device of subjective creative invention to him:

"If I came to you and I told you that I’d found the ultimate way of life and that I could tell you exactly how to do it, it would be very hard for you to accept. But if I said to you that I’ve got a mysterious teacher who has let me in on some great mysteries, then it’s more interesting . . . It’s much easier to accept." (A Magical Journey pp. 58-59.)

The suggestion to invent a teacher to convey a teaching on ultimate matters seems to have struck a note with Castaneda, but then he had to invent a pupil as well, didn't he? Representing himself as that pupil, he added a wild spin to the narrative form of magical realism, by then a well-established genre.

In Moby Dick, Melville does not place himself as a character in his novel, but his alter ego announces itself in the first line: "Call me Ishmael." Melville boldly proposes to the reader, call me (the author) by the name of the fictional narrator, Ishmael (the character). At the end of the novel the narrator says, "I alone survived." This is doubly true, because in the story Ishmael survived the wreck of the Pequod by floating on a coffin, and equally so because the author survived the act of writing the book. The author continues to live on, outside the fiction he invented, but his characters live within that fiction.

This is one way magical realism can work, but not the only way.

I regard Castaneda as a daring innovator of the genre. Few of the well-known masterworks of magical realism feature the author in the story, either as an Ishmael-like alter ego, or in person. The latter case is extremely rare, and Castanada is the outstanding example. By including himself as a first-person character in his own fiction, he threw a radical spin on the genre.

Bronchitis Oaroloye is really out of touch with reality, thats one reason why he he is unable to comprehend the reality of the thousands of honest testimonies of healings and demonic deliverances flowing like a mighty river out of the holy SCOAN church.

The other reason is that Bronchitis Oaroloye's personal beliefs are centred on Fictional/ Hoaxes of Dark occultic Nagualism and criminal Scientology. He is working hard to deceive the masses with his after-market version of Christianity.

It was correctly suggested that the eleven books of Carlos Castaneda (NAGUALISM) be regarded as a serial novel in the style of magical realism. This is a literary genre that mixes realistic settings and characters with fantastic events, locating them on the same plane as consensus-reality, and thus expanding the possibilities of ordinary life onto a mythic scale. In this genre, character becomes the vehicle or vector of non-ordinary reality. In Herman Melville's Moby Dick, for instance, Captain Ahab is a realistically drawn personality embellished with magical and supernatural qualities. Written during the seminal period of the 1850s, Moby Dick is an inceptive example of magical realism.

Dark Occultic Magical realism is not just imaginative fiction, as seen in science fiction writing, but an interactive medium in which imagination instills the factual world and eventually transforms it, enabling the reader to preconceive and enter aspects of non-ordinary reality as is evidenced by Bronchitis Oarolye's beliefs. In short, magical realism is a catalyst to the mystical and supernatural side of life. As such, it is the ideal genre for writing on shamanism, musticism, and altered states. NAGUALISM'S Carlos Castaneda's writing exemplifies magical realism in its most expansive effects, such that many millions of people have come to experience in reality what he described and prescribed in fiction: death as one's ally, seeing, controlled folly, erasing personal history, stopping internal talk, wrestling with the ally, the second attention, the path with heart, non-ordinary reality, stalking and dreaming, shifting the assemblage point, bands of emanations, and dozens of other themes.

De Mille also uncovered numerous instances of plagiarism. “When don Juan opens his mouth,” he wrote, “the words of particular writers come out.” His 1980 compilation, “The Don Juan Papers,” includes a 47-page glossary of quotations from don Juan and their sources, ranging from Wittgenstein and C.S. Lewis to papers in obscure anthropology journals.

In one example, de Mille first quotes a passage by a mystic, Yogi Ramacharaka: “The Human Aura is seen by the psychic observer as a luminous cloud, egg-shaped, streaked by fine lines like stiff bristles standing out in all directions.” In “A Separate Reality,” a “man looks like a human egg of circulating fibers. And his arms and legs are like luminous bristles bursting out in all directions.” The accumulation of such instances leads de Mille to conclude that “Carlos’s adventures originated not in the Sonoran desert but in the library at UCLA.”

This book is written by an antichrist James Redfield because he rejects the Gospel: that salvation is by Christ alone through repentance from sin and faith in the cross for the forgiveness of sins; James Redfield rejects the Christian faith, and instead preaches a psychic spirituality rooted in religious pluralism.

This is a very deceptive book; it leads men away from Scripture and brings them into a deceiving, demonic spirit world of occultism, witchcraft, psychic-ism, and visions which point to anti-Scriptural concepts (the Ten Insights). I truly believe this book is demonically inspired.

Bronchitis Oaroloye also gets his FAKE inspirations from NAGUALISM : Don Juan and Castaneda Under don Juan’s tutelage, Castaneda took peyote, talked to coyotes, turned into a crow, and learned how to fly. All this took place in what don Juan called “a separate reality.” Castaneda, who died in 1998, was, from 1971 to 1982, one of the best-selling nonfiction authors in the country. During his lifetime, his books sold at least 10 million copies.

Castaneda was viewed by many as a compelling writer, and his early books received overwhelmingly positive reviews. Time called them “beautifully lucid” and remarked on a “narrative power unmatched in other anthropological studies.” They were widely accepted as factual, and this contributed to their success. Richard Jennings, an attorney who became closely involved with Castaneda in the ’90s, was studying at Stanford in the early ’70s when he read the first two don Juan books. “I was a searcher,” he recently told Salon. “I was looking for a real path to other worlds. I wasn’t looking for metaphors.”

The books’ status as serious anthropology went almost unchallenged for five years. Skepticism increased in 1972 after Joyce Carol Oates, in a letter to the New York Times, expressed bewilderment that a reviewer had accepted Castaneda’s books as nonfiction. Never in my life have I seen a man minister like Joshua. Walking up and down the large gallery of sick people (approximately 600), he began ministering to the cancer patients and then moved on to the other illnesses. He looks straight into a person’s eyes. It seems as if when he fixes his eyes on the person, something begins to happen. Joshua staggers around the person, sometimes grabbing the poster board sign and throwing it to the ground. He says, "You’re healed, go in Jesus’ name and sin no more." Believe me, he is a pastor who deals with sin in his church. He teaches that sickness and sin are in the same boat. Everything that Joshua deals with in the service deals with the presence of sin in a person’s life and the great need for God. The power is a light touch and you can sense a Supreme Presence around this man when he prays for people. I could sense the Presence of the Holy Spirit and I saw within that service a process of holiness being directed.

I do not know many Pentecostal ministers who have an anointing to heal in the area of HIV and AIDS. Saving these cases until the very last, Joshua prayed for the HIV and AIDS people who are there for hope. He began to pray, but before they were touched, he asked them to renounce sin and to name their sins before the congregation. The very act of repentance starts the process as Joshua raises his hands and goes from side to side and then all of a sudden Joshua says, "You’re healed, go now and sin no more."
When T.B. Joshua prays, you can see a power pull of the Holy Spirit as he moves people back and forth just with a wave of his hands. His methods are unusual, but the test results reveal the Power of God at work. There are signs and wonders in this church but a greater process is going on at the Synagogue Church - salvation is brought to the people that are healed. The condition of the soul is dealt with before the prayer goes forth over that individual.

I believe that what Joshua is teaching and the format of his services will be a blueprint for the entire Christian Church to follow. He deals with sin and then he moves in healing. Many Charismatic and Full Gospel people, for years, have felt tremendous Presence in their situations around the world - but with no results. It’s great to sense and feel the Presence of God through worship in the great meetings around the world, but if all that happens is a feeling then we have missed the point of why Jesus came to the world. I listened to Joshua teach on the Holy Spirit and His purpose in the world.

His teachings dealt with sin and the preparation for the coming of the Spirit at Pentecost. He used the Gospel of John to teach on the purpose for the Spirit Baptism. In my opinion, anyone who would make the statement that Joshua is a cult figure must have never actually come to his church.

The people fighting and accusing Pastor T. B. Joshua are in this category. They are the false and fortune seeker Pastors. Such as Chris Okotie and some of his fellow Pentecostal fellowship of Nigeria members. They are not actually fighting Pastor T. B. Joshua, they are fighting the happenings of holy spiritual hearings at the Synagogue. They are fighting the miracles of God happening at the Synagogue. The hearings and miracles taken place at the Synagogue can only be by the anointing of the Holy Spirit of God. This has challenged the kingdom of Satan in Nigeria and has threatened their survival and existence. The fellow Pastors threatened are the one fighting to protect their interest and survival. Unfortunately, it is too late for them.

The influx of foreign missionaries, President of Nations and dignitaries from all over the world to the Synagogue is as a result of this true anointing.

The healings and miracles according to Pastor T. B. Joshua is not the work of his own hand but his father THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. The miracles and hearings are received free and all the thousands of various missionaries from all over the world on pilgrimage to Synagogue are accommodated free with feeding as no one pays for anything at the Synagogue. No endowment fund, no development fund, no special contribution and no extortion is allowed at the Synagogue as practiced by other Pentecostal Churches through which the founders and general overseers enrich themselves.

We, as an independent organization devoted to the study of the doctrine, mode of worship, preaching, teaching and practice of religious bodies and Church organizations in Nigeria have focused our attention to the recent unwarranted attack and allegations against Pastor T. B. Joshua of The Synagogue Church of all Nations and Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of the Love World Assembly a.k.a Christ Embassy as published recently in various magazines and newspapers among which are Encomium magazine, Treasure magazine, This day Newspaper and City People magazine and lately, your magazine Charisma and Christian life.

In addition to the role and objective of our organization as stipulated above, we also monitor the lifestyle of the head of the various Church organizations, General Overseers and men of God.

The sustained unrelenting attack on Pastor T. B. Joshua and lately on Pastor Chris Oyakhilome by Pastor Chris Okotie because of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s association with Pastor T. B. Joshua has led to a thorough investigation by our organization of Pastor T. B. Joshua, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and the accuser, Pastor Chris Okotie.

The result of our investigations, findings and assessments is herewith attached;

In addition to our investigation, our organization made a request to Lagos State Government and the Federal Government of Nigeria to investigate the allegations made against Pastor T. B. Joshua of the Synagogue Church of all Nations by Rev. Chris Okatie and the Pentecostal fellowship of Nigeria.

At our request, both the Lagos State and Federal Government of Nigeria carried out thorough and extensive investigation of all the allegations through the use of State investigative network. Result of the Government investigation revealed that there was no substance in the Pastor Chris Okotie’s and the Pentecostal fellowship allegations against Pastor T. B. Joshua as a result of which the Government pronounced verdict of innocence.

Thereafter, the Lagos State Government and Federal Government authorities invited Pastor T. B. Joshua and his accuser Chris Okotie (see enclosed letters) to a meeting. Where the government issued warnings to Pastor Okotie and his Pentecostal Fellowship Group to desist from their falsehood, unfounded, mischievous and malicious attack laden with blatant lies against Pastor T. B. Joshua and Oyakhilome.

The Religious Monitor Group has been monitoring the Synagogue Church of All Nations since 1993 when the organization came to Nigeria prominence up-to-date, the monitoring is still progressing and so far, we have found nothing unusual or unbiblical in the practice, doctrine, teaching and mode of worship of the Synagogue Church of All Nations. The life of the general overseer and founder of the Church (Pastor T. B. Joshua) is worthy of emulation. Our conclusion and verdict is that Pastor T. B. Joshua received his anointing through absolute righteousness and holiness, which many of Nigeria’s Pentecostal Church Pastors lack.

The Majority of today’s Pentecostal Church Pastors in Nigeria are Pastors of fortune seekers, morally bankrupt people, adulterers, mischievous, deceitful people as a result of which the Churches are personal estates and properties of the founder, general overseer and his immediate family.
For example, Pastor Chris Okotie has been deserted by his wife who has alleged wide spread adultery with members of the congregation by Pastor Okotie. The wife is now filing for divorce.
Similarly, Pastor Oritsajefor has divorced his first wife and now married to the wife of a member of the congregation. Such is the unholy practice of these Pastors. This situation has made it impossible for most of the new generation Nigerian Pentecostal Churches to receive true anointing.

A few among them, such as; Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Living Faith (a.k.a Winners Chapel), Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries, Deeper Life Ministries, Love world Assemblies (a.k.a Christ embassy) and few others can be said to meet the standard expected in the ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ.

B. Joshua is the gift of God to Nigeria, mankind and the whole world. Despite the tribulation similar to what our Lord Jesus suffered, the Pastor and the Church are waxing stronger and stronger.
