Like I replied above, if you're enjoying your decice as it is, kindly stay put. There is hardly any difference between the two updates, though I stand to be corrected.

Note: this is just my opinion oo. If you really want to update and you are downloading the update externally other than OTA, make sure it is the correct link for your device.

If you ask me, provided you ain't facing any issues with your phone software-wise, kindly wait for MiUi 10 Global stable release for Redmi Note 5. You might not see the notification directly, but be rest assured when it is available someone will raise it here.

Most OTAs are smaller in volume compared to downloading from the web directly. Reason for this is because OTAs are mostly incremental patches, save for major updates.

Download another Gcam apk , I have always used portrait mode for both front and rear cameras on mine, Redmi note 4x.

Mine na the opposite, only the front camera works on potrait mode. Which particular mode you dey use? Though I can't even use Gcam for now, unto MiUi 10

Reading through the recent comparison made between Max 2 and Note 5, there is no where anyone mentioned the latter is better than the former in battery life. Stop being witty when there is no need to be. You will just end up misinforming newbies on here.
The Redmi Note 5 is a better all rounder than the Max 2, save for the size and the bigger battery if that is what the buyer prefers.
The only xiaomi device the Redmi note 5 is worthy to be compared with in general performance should be the Max 3.
In addition, there is still no better chipset at the same price merging that is as frugal in power management as SD625.

Am certain modems can't work on phones generally.

You shouldn't be sir, I remembered back in the early days when I started following new Chinese android phones and tablets, it was possible to use usb modems with certain Wi-Fi only tablets. Maybe that feature is gone now sha, but it was once there.

For people planning to install the poco launcher pasted some few pages back, make sure you put in mind that the "Home and Recent" option in settings might be rendered functionless if you install it.
Though, the launcher is working fine, I might need to factory reset or flash the present rom again to make that option function again i.e. Global developer 8.7.26 on mido.

Modify: On a second check, uninstalling update of the "system launcher" app under "installed apps" did the trick just like the poster of the link mentioned earlier.

UPDATE.

I strongly believe it works with a sort of motion sensor. I positioned the watch and looked into it, nothing happened but once the watch does the movement, it activates.

There are two variants of the chinese version; the one that comes with Chinese rom and the one that gets the bootloader unlocked and flashed with global rom.

1.Chinese Version with Chinese rom
2.Chinese version with Global rom
