why dont you email the school and ask for their international student or african student association, you'd be suprised the kind of help you could get from them.

12 credit hours isnt a bad idea but it will leave you little room for anything else, believe me even 9 credit hours is a lot of work, because you have to do coursework and research for all of them, you might end up overstretching yourself, but if you think you can handle it then its no problem

damine:
Hello everyone,

Please, I have a couple of questions and I would appreciate feedback:

1. How easy is it enrolling for 12 credit hours or more per semester?
2. Is there anyone here attending Frostburg State University, Maryland?

Thank you in advance.

Hello house,

Want to say a big thank you to all the gurus in the house, especially slimmy05, who has and continues to be a big help. I was really sick the days leading up to my exit from Nigeria so it made preparations and layover really tricky but, Left Lagos very early on friday morning on Air Maroc flight, didnt have any issues with customs and immigration but NDLEA was asking for my NYSC certificate (awon werey) gave them 2k to leave me alone, layover was over 17 hours in Morocco, but the people i met on the plane made time fly and it really didnt seem like much time, also they have this transit hotel inside the airport where you can book a room for $24 but the hotel lounge was comfortable too with long couches where you can sleep plus free wifi.

Got into New York JFK early Saturday morning, POE was easier than i expected. CBP seized my indomie though, said something about bird flu and not allowing any kind of food processed with chicken into the country. Got out and took another bus to Newark Airport where my cousin picked me up.

Anyone looking for a cheap flight with short notice should try Air Maroc, Mine was just 254k, there's a long lay over but considering the fact that they feed you lunch and dinner, you can sleep on a really comfy couch in the hotel lounge, plus you have the chance to get a hotel room for just $24, it makes a lot of sense.

Its better you get it filled in Nigeria. But there is a place you can have the MMR shot for free here. You will have to do a TB test which cost around $100-200 can't really remember, but once you pay for your insurance, it will cover the cost. House is not cheap anywhere bro, but you can get a 2 bedroom for like $500 to $600 and share with someone. Usually hard getting accommodation cheaper and closer to school. All the best

Bro, please how can I search for accommodation in the area from here, got any link?

I saw it on a blog as part of documents to take to the POE.
My school requires some proof of immunization before registering for classes. I don't know if I can do it here or will have to do it when I get to the school.

Im facing the same issues, i cant register for classes until i get it done and someone told me not to do it here but looking on the school website i saw where they posted there that it will cost $500 to get it done over there, can i do it at any general hospital or is there somewhere specific i have to do it?

Visa Approved at the Us Embassy in Lagos yesterday, 6:30 am appointment

Getting in to the visa hall, some guys on the right just kept denying people and quoting US immigration law for them, the ladies on the left were more lenient and listened more, before my turn the lady just denied a 13 year old boy who was going to high school on scholarship, i was a little scared but confident that God had my back, at this point, i didnt really care anymore (5th try)

VO: Why are you going to the US
Me: To pursue a master's degree in public administration
VO: Why this course
Me: Looking at the system of governance in Nigeria which hasn't been the best in recent years, i feel we the youths need to stand up and try to make a difference, be the change we want to see, i believe this course will give me the necessary knowledge to come back to Nigeria and make a difference in a system that has failed its people.
VO: Why do you thing you can make a change with this course
Me: I specifically chose this course because of my planned area of concentration which is "Urban planning and development" and we all know that Nigeria has alot of rural areas in need of development with a huge shortfall of true professionals in that sector, studying this course will give me a unique advantage.
VO: Who is paying for this?
Me: I have a scholarship but my mum is paying for the rest.
VO: (looks at my I-20 again) Do you have a letter from the school confirming the scholarship?
Me: No, but i have the form they sent me when the scholarship was awarded (i passed it over)
VO: Are you married?
Me: Yes
VO: Do you have kids?
Me: Yes, 2
VO: Why aren't your kids going with you
Me: My wife has a job, besides im coming back after my studies so i didnt see the need.
VO: Im returning your I-20, you will need it at the point of entry, your visa has been approved, you can pick it up at this location.
Me: Thank you (Didnt know how to feel, just kept smiling)

Walking out of the Visa hall, i saw a guy at the small security check point just outside the Visa hall, his visa had just been approved, dude knelt down, dropped his documents and started thanking God, security guard was telling him to leave, my bros no even answer am.

Now i have to leave in three weeks, is anyone here in ETSU? I need to find accommodation off campus, is there anyone here that can help or give some pointers? will be highly appreciated.

Hello House, Visa delay @ the Us Embassy today, 6:30am
Transcript as follows

VO -good morning
Me -a very good morning sir
Vo -what are you going to the US for?
Me -to pursue a masters degree in public administration
Vo -were in the U.S. are you going
Me -Tennessee State
Vo -which university
Me -East Tennessee State University
Vo -How did you find out this school
Me -through google, us news streamlining my search with my intended course of study
Vo -who will be paying for your studies
Me -i have a scholarship but my mum will be paying the rest of the fees
Vo -(looking @ my i-20) How much is the scholarship for
Me -11,400USD
Vo -What does your mum do
Me -told him
Vo -how much does she make in a month?
Me -told him
Vo -do you know anybody in the US?
Me -No

The guy just types for over a min on his computer, the long wait almost killed me, looks at me and gives me back the documents and says, i'm sorry but you do not qualify for a visa at this time.

Didn't ask for any document though.

Called the embassy when i got to work to know the actual reason for the denial and they asked me to call back tomorrow (might as well know what i said wrong)

My question now is, does the fact that previous applied for a B1 visa (denied) last year affect my chances of getting a student visa this year?

I have sent the graduate coordinator for my program (Dr Briley) several emails in the past 2 weeks but he has not replied any

slimmy05:
that's good. Well the international merit scholarship is not so good as you still have to pay 5 to 7k. Email your graduate coordinator thy you would need a tuition scholarship or possibly a GA. You can go to www.etsu.edu and in the search link type ga/ts and apply to any of the position that fits your profile and again keep checking just in case you don't find any that suits your profile.

Do you know Janice Howard at the international students office. Send her email that you are interested in GA position, send along your detailed CV as well.

Do you have anyone here helping you. You had better email him/her so that they can get some stuffs down for you like bed and all the rest, you hardly find already furnished apt here except you want to stay in 16 rooms and 1kitched kind of apt.
