Don't bet your money on some of these propaganda you read on military hardware. Russia is afraid of America as America is afraid of Russia military. Some of these weapons are intentionally overhyped and the intention is to keep the enemy from attempting to attack.

Do not vouch for a weapon system until it has been battle tested in a real and even war. This is why at the end of the day, the big boys with their big weapons are cautious on going to war with themselves because you can't be too sure.

It is one thing for the S300,400 or 500 to knock out enemy missile and aircraft here and there but it is another thing for it to hold on to perform in a full scale war.

You guys stay on your computer and be hyping and analyzing war scenarios you have not witnessed but the guys involved who understand what is on ground approach things with caution irrespective of thier super weapons.

I may agree to some extent with you about not vouching for military hardware that is not combat tested but if for anything, i would trust more Russian legendary weapons more than the U.S cos just by checking the number of wars and battles Russians have countered, something U.S could never ever survive. Yet Russia used its Military hardwares and for that reason, i can to some extent vouch for Russian weapons.

Just check how the hesbolar kicked the Israelis out in 2006 war. let me also remind you that all the weapons used then were made by the Russians. Ok. Recently, Nuclear capable ballistic missile was shut down in eastern Ukraine during the Donbass war. That was done by the Russians ok

As for the Russian political reaction, I find it rather flaccid: Russia has condemned the attack and suspended the Memorandum of Understanding on Prevention of Flight Safety Incidents in the course of operations in Syria signed with the US.

Russia will not put out her S300 and S400 in Syria anyhow forget about propaganda. They are also afraid of giving the Americans the opportunity to study and develop strategies to manuover the system.

In fact, it benefits the US more if those missile defense system is in Syria because it's an opportunity to get first hand view and experience of the system and get a countermeasure to it. The Russians know this and will protect one of thier best deterrent arsenals.
So don't expect a full air defense system in Syria, it does not benefit Russia for now especially with Israel lurking behind to gather data from it.

Trust me, if they need a countermeasure, they sure know where to get it. Ukraine has loads of that S-300. The simple truth is that the S-300 is still as powerful as anything if only outdated S-200 could shoot down F-16 recently in Syria (that the Isreali denied but were giving threats later to destroy Syrian Airfield, Now U.S has just helped Isreal to do just that).

Wonder what S-300 would do. It will surely destroy exiting ones.. Forget it, Russia is not sleeping when it comes to making Hardware, i mean real military hardware for real combat zone. S-300vm in Syria, except if it gets to the Isis hand, then what you are saying could be very possible and fast. Even if that, it will take years to develop and test a countermeasure on it. You know the strategy Putin is using in Syria. Remember when Turkey shut down SU-24. He tried to manage the situation, I think he would do the same thing now and just warn the U.S not to try it again. Where Putin is going with this is clear, it will kill the relationship between U.S and Russia. Russia may use this (hopefully if at all it would respond) transfer some powerful defense system to Syria. Remember the work of S-300vm is to shut down all Cruise missile shock like in Iraq.

"President [Vladimir] Putin regards the US attacks on Syria as an aggression against a sovereign state in violation of the norms of international law, and under a trumped-up pretext at that," Pesov told reporters.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also sees the latest US missile strikes on a military airfield in Syria as an attempt to distract from the mounting civilian casualties in Iraq, the Kremlin added.

"Putin also sees the attacks on Syria by the US as an attempt to divert the international community's attention from the numerous casualties among civilians in Iraq."

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) had confirmed that Syrian armed forces do not possess chemical weapons, the Kremlin cited Russian President Vladimir Putin as saying Friday while warning of the danger of ignoring terrorist use of chemical weapons.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said in a statement after the US attack that there were no discussions or prior contacts between the United States and Moscow ahead of the missile strike on the Syrian base.


"The fact of the destruction of all chemical weapons stockpiles has been recorded and confirmed by the OPCW, a specialized UN unit," Peskov told reporters.

"At the same time, in Putin's opinion, total disregard for the use of chemical weapons by terrorists only drastically aggravates the situation," Peskov said.

Well, you may have a point. As much as it is hard to admit, it is the bitter truth. The s-400 looks like a superior stuff to the patriots. And it is a consequence of the united states not dedicating enough Research and devt funds and time to missile defence programes like they way they do stealth technology devt , aircraft carriers and laser guns, because in all honesty, defence is not our military doctrine.

So if major war breaks out tomorrow, having Turkey as an unstable ally is better even for Russia as it will reduce the number of NATO death records since Turkey has the largest number of Army in the NATO crookie alliance. S-400 missile system that Ankara plans to buy from Russia will not be integrated into NATO missile defense system, Turkish Defense Minister Fikri Işık said on Thursday.

"The Russian S-400 system will not be integrated into NATO missile defense system," Işık said.

On Wednesday, Turkish Defense Minister said that Ankara and Moscow made certain progress in talks on delivery of Russian-made S-400 air defense systems to Turkey, but the sides are still not ready to strike a deal.
Russia's Rostech CEO Sergei Chemezov earlier confirmed that Moscow and Ankara were in talks on deliveries of S-400 air defense systems to Turkey. The S-400 is Russia's next-generation air defense system, carrying three different types of missiles capable of destroying aerial targets at a short-to-extremely-long range. The weapon is capable of tracking and destroying all existing aerial targets, including ballistics and cruise missiles.

Turkey canceled last November its $4-billion tender for the procurement of components for a domestic missile defense system announced in 2009.

However, please keep in mind that any military operation has to serve a political goal and, in that sense, I cannot imagine any scenario under which the USA would walk away from a war against the DPRK with anything remotely resembling a real “victory”. There is a paraphrase of something Ho Chi Minh allegedly told to the French in the 1940s which I really like. It goes like this:” we kill some of you, you kill a lot of us, and then we win”. That is how a war with the DPRK would probably play out. I call this the “American curse”: Americans are very good at killing people, but they are not good at winning wars. Still, in the case of the DPRK there is at least a possibility of a military victory, even if at a potentially huge cost. With Iran, Russia or China there is no such possibility at all: a war with any of them would be a guaranteed disaster. So why is it that even though out of the 4 possible wars, one is a potential disaster and the 3 others are a guaranteed disaster, why is it that these are discussed as if they were potential options?!

The reason for that can be found in the unique mix of crass ignorance and political cowardice of the entire US political class. First, a lot (most?) of US politicians believe in their own silly propaganda about the US armed forces being “the best” in “the world” (no evidence needed!). But even those who are smart enough to realize that this is a load of baloney which nobody outside the USA still takes seriously, they know that saying that publicly is political suicide. So they pretend, go along, and keep on repetitively spewing the patriotic mantra about “rah, rah, USA, USA, ‘Merica number one, we are the best” etc. Some figure that since the USA spends more on aggression that the rest of the planet combined, that must mean that the US armed forces must be “better” (whatever that means). To the birthplace of “bigger is better” the answer is self-evident. It is also completely wrong

Eventually, something crazy inevitably happens. Like in Syria were the State Department had one policy, the Pentagon another and the CIA yet another one. The resulting cognitive dissonance is removed by engaging in classical doublethink: “yes, we screwed up over and over, but we are still the best”. Ironically, that kind of mindset is at the core of the American inability to learn from past mistakes. If the choice is between an honest evaluation of past operations and political expediency, the latter always prevails (at least amongst civilians, US servicemen are often far more capable of self-critical evaluation, especially in ranks up to Colonel and below, the problem here is that civilians and generals rarely listen to them).

The result is total chaos: the US foreign policy is wholly dependent on the US ability to threaten the use of military force, but the harsh reality is that every country out there which dared to defy Uncle Sam did that only after coming to the conclusion that the US did not have the means to crush it militarily. In other words, only the weak, which are already de-facto US colonies (See definition of the set in my signature) , fear the USA. Or, put differently, the only countries who dare to defy Uncle Sam are the strong ones (that was all quite predictable, but US politicians don’t know about Hegel or dialectics). And just to make it worse, there is no real US foreign policy. What there is is only the sum vector of the different foreign policies desired by various more or less covert “deep state” actors, agencies and individuals. That resulting “sum vector” is inevitably short-term, focuses on a quickfix approach, and unable to take into account any complexity.

As for the US “diplomacy” it simply doesn’t exist. You don’t need diplomats to deliver demands, bribes, ultimatums and threats. You don’t need educated people. Nor do you need people with any understanding of the “other”. All you need is one arrogant self-enamored bully and one interpreter (since US diplomats don’t speak the local languages either. And why would they?). We saw the most compelling evidence of the total rigor mortis of the US diplomatic corps when 51 US “diplomats” demanded that Obama bomb Syria. The rest of the world could just observe in amazement, sadness, bewilderment and total disgust.

The bottom line is this: there is no “US diplomacy”. The USA have simply let that entire field atrophy to the point were it ceased to exist. When so many baffled observers try to understand what the US policy in the Ukraine or Syria is, they are making a mistaken assumption – that there is a US foreign policy to being with. I would argue that the US diplomacy slowly and quietly passed away, sometime after James Baker (the last real US diplomat, and a brilliant one at that).
