Russia will deliver 12 multipurpose Mi-35 helicopters to Nigeria by 2018 as the African country is carrying out the modernization program of its armed forces, the deputy head of Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation said Friday.

“As for the contract for the delivery of Mi-35M helicopters, signed in October 2015, it is in the process of implementation by 2018. It has been planned to supply two vehicles until the end of 2016,” Anatoly Punchuk told RIA Novosti at the Africa Aerospace and Defense-2016 (AAD 2016) exhibition, adding that the contract provides for the supply of 12 helicopters.

He added that Nigeria was one of the most promising Russian partners in the field of military-technical cooperation. The Mi-35M is a modern multipurpose attack helicopter, equipped with the latest navigation and avionics technology and capable of operating in high temperatures and in mountainous terrain. It can be also used for medical and transportation purposes. The AAD-2016 expo is taking place in the capital of South Africa, Pretoria, on September 14-18.

Russia says that the situation in Syria is worsening finding that the rebels have intensified their attacks since the ceasefire came into force on September 12 and laying the blame at the feet of Washington for failing to crackdown on jihadists.


The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a scathing response to the Obama administration after a US Central Command statement suggested that the US-led coalition had warned Russia prior to the airstrikes against Syrian Army positions at Deir Ez-Zor that left some 62 Assad regime soldiers dead. The statement by the Foreign ministry comes in the wake of accusations by Russia that the United States has not been dealing in good faith in the ceasefire agreement with Russian General Vladimir Savchenko saying that "the situation is worsening" with rebel forces escalating their attacks since the agreement went into force on September 12. "Russia is exterting all possible effort to restrain Government troops from returning fire," Senior Army General Viktor Poznikhir said.

The harsh response by Russia comes not only after the United States attempted to flip the blame on Moscow for the attack that killed 80 forces according to the SANA news agency, but also after reports that Daesh terrorists engaged in a major offensive right after the American airstrike crippled the Assad regime's forces.

Speaking on Rossiya 24 Television the Rusisan Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said: "If earlier we had suspicions that the Nusra Front is protected this way, now, after today's airstrikes on the Syrian army we come to a really terrifying conclusion for the entire world: the White House is defending IS [Islamic State or Daesh)."

Russian MoD Confirms US-Led Coalition's F-16, A-10 Jets Attacked Syrian Army


The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that Syrian army positions were attacked by two F-16 fighter jets and two A-10 ground attack aircraft of the US-led coalition.

"Today at 17:00-17:50 Moscow time, international anti-Daesh coalition (two F-16 and two A-10 jets) carried out four strikes on Syrian government forces' units encirled by Daesh near Deir ez-Zor airport. The coalition's aircraft entered Syrian airspace from the side of the Iraqi border," Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said. Earlier in the day, the General Command of the Syrian army accused the US-led coalition of bombing the Syrian army's positions in Deir ez-Zor.


As a result of the attack, 80 Syrian soldiers were killed and some 100 others were injured, according to information received from the Syrian command in Deir ez-Zor, he said. The Russian Defense Ministry said that Daesh terrorists launched an offensive soon after the US-led coalition aircraft attacked the Syrian government forces. "If this airstrike was carried out due to an error in the coordinates of the targetm it is a direct consequence of US side's unwillingless to coordinate its actions against terrorist groups with Russia," the Russian Defense Ministry spokesman emphasized. Konashenkov said that fighting with terrorists has been taking place near the Deir ez-Zor airport. The news comes amid a ceasefire in Syria agreed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry on September 9. The ceasefire stipulated by the US-Russia agreement came into force on September 12.
