Yayaha Bello is the genius. While other governors were searching for olodos and malleable lackeys to foist on their states as successors, Bello didn’t take any chances. He found Ododo. He must have known that the average political acolyte, oozing subservience from all orifices, might acquire some superciliousness or a sense of shame once enthroned.

When that metamorphosis is triggered, and the stooge starts weaning himself, the growing self-awareness and returning introspection will evoke emotions with its appearance of virtue, jeopardising and ostracising the godfather. So, Bello sought a proper puppet. A puppet might be agile and smart, but strings and loops attach its brains, hands and legs to the body of the puppeteer. With a puppet masquerading as a protege on the throne, almost all fears of a spontaneous or induced recovery of personal autonomy are eliminated.

On his part, Wike, it seems, looked out for a seemingly docile and taciturn man who could swallow tons of s**t without blinking while maintaining absolute secrecy. A man with whom many financial skeletons had been buried. A man with whom a certain shared fate would be the consequence if a total political divorce accompanied by all-out treachery ever happened. A quiet and tireless but inflexibly self-effacing mule yoked to the shepherd by the weight of their mutual secrets.

He found one in Sim Fubara. A dutiful young man who could sit for weeks without flinching if it pleased his master. A man with a single-minded, uncritical loyalty and the restraint required for political celibacy. But it appears Wike didn’t test Sim’s elastic limits for humiliation under gubernatorial temperature and pressure. Had Wike looked for a lazy plastic puppet rather than a domesticated and self-abasing donkey, he might have avoided trouble. Evidently, Sim Fubara is not Ododo.

Though Ododo’s mechanics haven’t been thoroughly tested, he has shown a metallic obduracy. Yahaya Bello’s spectacular failure to secure a federal appointment despite his restlessness on the eve of the election and boisterous appropriation of the head-boyship of the youths, Ododo hasn’t had any room for a malfunction. The failure of Bello to secure a face-saving and perhaps self-preservative political job in Abuja has left in Kogi babysitting his lackey. With the puppeteer perpetually pulsating in the presidential lodge in Lokoja, watching the puppet with bleary eyes for signs of waywardness or malfunction and tugging at the strings with temper and whim, Ododo is denied discretion, and his plight is pitiable. To heap blame on Ododo for creating the Office of the Former Governor in the Government House is to underestimate his suffocating predicament.

A modern puppet might prefer to be remotely controlled. It might be softer on the bones. But with Bello next door and Ododo exposed to the direct impacts of his imperiousness, whims and caprices, Ododo can’t be morally culpable for his thoughtlessness. Imagine Wike, idle and irritable, bleeding political relevance, living every day in the Govt House in Port Harcourt, running an Office of Former Governor from the Governor’s Office. Unthinkable. Sim Fubara might have resigned. Ododo will find more rest if he would allow Bello to do ventriloquy, to do all the talking, so that nobody is deceived by his occasional tough-talk to mistake him for a charlatan rather than what he is.

Unlike Ododo, who has told the public that Yahaya Bello has the final say and if he contradicts Bello that he, the governor, should be disregarded, Sim Fubara has announced his independence in words and deed. Wike might have even scored Fubara high for his ability to take slaps and humiliation from a drunken man. But evidently, he forgot to test Fubara’s capacity to switch loyalty to revulsion if pushed to seek healing for his wounded conscience with the balm of truth and populism. When Sim said enough was enough, and his master attempted to drag him away by the impeachment leash into oblivion, he decided to kick his oga’s ass. Now, he has left his boss restless, holding incoherent media chats after egotistic media chats, in vain attempts to convince the public that loyalty, even if it amounted to a criminal conspiracy to perpetrate state capture, was still a virtue.

Bello is a genius. He knew the EFCC was after him. After all, in 2023, they had charged his wife, alongside his nephew and aides, for partaking in a money laundering scheme. In 2022, the EFCC said that they discovered that Bello took state funds and alleged that he handed them to a BDC guy to convert to dollars . Then he paid it to an American school in Abuja. Nobody knows exactly how many children Bello has in the school and if he harbours any ambition to be a father of many nations.

But he paid about 900,000 dollars in advance fees for children yet to be admitted, according to EFCC. The school received the money and kept it. Perhaps the idea was that they would keep it till Bello produced more children and sent them to the school. When the EFCC traced the illicit journey of the funds to that school, the school deducted all Bello’s children would need as fees till graduation and yet there was about a surplus of 760,000 dollars, which they then begged the EFCC to come and collect.

Bello, like Wike, is innocent of all the allegations and accusations until found guilty by a competent court of law. But Ododo has done a few spectacular things to establish Yahaya Bello’s innocence. Once he assumed office, Ododo told the world that he was a professional accountant in the mould of Asiwaju Tinubu. Then, he declared that no money was missing from the Kogi treasury. That announcement was a blanket exoneration of not just Yahaya Bello but any other persons who might have been alleged to have stolen from the Kogi treasury in the last eight years. Auditors are usually circumspect, but Ododo’s bullish announcement was expected. A puppet has no mind of its own. Hearing Ododo parrot what Bello had said when the EFCC accused him of stealing was reassuring. The puppet was functioning optimally.

Those who had said that an ‘olodo’ would have been a little better for Kogi are now having the last laugh. Last week, the EFCC traced the elusive fugitive Bello to a house on the Benghazi Street in Abuja. Bello should have avoided Benghazi. Benghazi is a symbol of resistance against demi-gods. Though Bello isn’t yet a Gadaffi, he should have drawn the parallel and regarded Benghazi as a bad omen. While Bello was surrounded, Ododo ran to the Benghazi Street with armed security agents. The thugs and security agents shoved the EFCC aside with shots fired into the air and whisked away Bello. With that singular act of death-defying daredevilry, Ododo has surpassed previous local limits of political puppetry. Being ready to confront federal law enforcement at noon, braving a brazen transgression of all boundaries of civility and morality, and breaching the presidential security precinct wantonly to enact audacious self-help is the stuff of inanimate courage.

While Ododo was rescuing and deodorizing Bello, Fubara was continuing his journey of self-rediscovery and preparing for an imminent political circumcision. While Ododo was fabricating garlands of integrity for Bello, Fubara was dismantling his master’s structures of infamy and telling the world that Wike lacked ‘intigrity’. Wike might forgive Fubara for his disloyalty, but he might not forgive Fubara for declaring him destitute of ‘intigrity’, the very quantity Wike invented to measure his political opponents and label them worthless. For Wike, the father of INTIGRITY and character, Fubara’s declaration feels like a negative political paternity DNA test, reducing a loquacious patriarch to an impotent impostor in his castle.

Wike must be filled with regrets. Now, Sim Fubara has tasted personal autonomy and mended fences with the people. Ododo is still what he is. He needs a transcendental transmutation. Until the improbable happens, Yahaya Bello is the genius and Nigeria, the butt of jokes.

The Federal Government’s economic and monetary policies may have widened the gap between the rich and the poor in the past nine months.

Also, the recent policies in the financial and energy sector have created the path to further widening of the gap in the months and probably years ahead without any sign of poverty reduction except palliative measures.


Saturday Vanguard findings in the commodities and financial markets indicate that much more money is now being controlled by the rich as efforts of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to mop up excess financial liquidity in its attempts to control inflation are not yet achieving expected results as the plight of the poor worsens.


Economy experts and financial analysts told Vanguard that though some of the big players in the economy and the rich members of the society playing in a few sectors were also affected by the policies, they have demonstrated the capacity to not only overcome the negative impact quickly but are also exploiting the advantage of the new policies.

They added that the poor have not only been further impoverished but have been stripped of the capacity to survive the harsh policies.

They also said that while the poor were still groaning under the existing policies introduced in the early months of the current administration, more of such policies are still being rolled out monthly with indications that many more are still underway in the months if not weeks ahead.


Some of the policies they listed include the withdrawal of petroleum subsidy, depreciation of the Naira against the world’s major currencies, raising of customs duty rates, and raising of benchmark interest rates, all of which have propelled the inflation rate to all-time high.

Also, the analysts mentioned the rollout of new adverse policies including electricity tariffs as one of the major hardship-inducing policies that has recently added to the rising cost of living, which reduces the disposable income of the poor.
According to the analysts, amidst all these adversities companies and individuals running the sectors in which the policies were based have been declaring stupendous profits.

Those operating in the petroleum sector have equally declared mouth-watering profit growth amounting to 388 per cent in 2023 while Q1’2024 is also expected to come up as high.


The bulk of the profits went to the owners of the businesses in the sectors.

The rich across other sectors have also demonstrated their relative comfort with the current economic environment especially with the unprecedented over-subscription of 254 per cent to the CBN’s Treasury Bill sales three days ago.

It is only the rich and the middle class that invest in Treasury Bills and they over-subscribed to the tune of N531 billion three days ago bringing their total investments in the treasury instrument to about N3.1 trillion in the past six months, while the poor searched for money to eat at least once a day during the period.


Analysts’ insight
Commenting on the impact of the various government policies on the income groups, Mr Tunde Awolola, Managing Director, Parthian Securities Limited, a Lagos-based investment house, stated: “The removal of petrol subsidies impacts everyone, but it disproportionately affects the poor due to increased transportation and living costs.

“In the electricity tariff hike, Band A subsidy removal affects the rich but can indirectly harm the poor through economic ripple effects.

‘‘Interest rate hikes tend to benefit the wealthy while burdening borrowers, widening wealth disparities.

“High inflation further exacerbates poverty by reducing the purchasing power of those with fixed incomes. ‘‘These dynamics emphasize the need for policymakers to consider the socio-economic ramifications of their decisions.”

However, commenting also, Muda Yusuf, CEO, Centre for the Promotion of Public Enterprise (CPPE) said though the pains of the reforms might be more severe on the poor due to lack of capacity to absorb the shock, Nigerians across all income levels feel the impact nonetheless but on a different scale.

While arguing that it is not entirely true to say that the rich get richer while the poor get poorer as a result of the recent reforms, he explained that the rich whose businesses are exposed to the vagaries of fluctuations in the exchange rate, for instance, feel the impact the most.

He said: “The current economic situation up until a few weeks ago has been very challenging.

“First, it was an inevitable reform which brought a lot of challenges and pains and hardship. And I think everybody will agree with that. Hardship, especially in terms of inflation, which is driven largely by the depreciation of the Naira, and the high energy costs, that’s the cost of diesel, the cost of PMS, the cost of aviation fuel, and the cost of gas.

“All of these things have taken a toll on the welfare of the citizens. And from the business point of view, the higher the inflationary pressure, the more challenging it is for businesses, especially those in the SME space because they are not in a position to transfer these additional costs to their consumers or to their customers.

“So they have to bear the brunt to a larger extent of the increases in costs, which means that their profit margins have been eroded, and that also means in some cases that they are just struggling to break even.”

On the other hand, he said: “Reforms and economic reforms by nature, impact more on the poor than the rich.

“In other words, the pains of reforms are much more severe on the poor in the short term because when we talk about reforms, we talk about something that may not give an immediate result, but which is necessary to put the economy on the right footing going forward.

“And because the poor have a lesser capacity to absorb the shock of these reforms, it follows that the pain on them will be higher than those who are in the upper economic bracket.

“I must say at this point that even those who are in the middle class are also feeling the pains of these reforms.”
Explaining further he said: “So, it is not entirely correct to say that the rich are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer. It’s not necessarily so.

“It depends on the segment of the economy each individual finds himself or herself. For those who have high exposure, particularly, in their businesses to foreign exchange, and those whose businesses are dependent on importation, the impact of the reforms, at least, in the last few months, has been very severe.

“I am talking about SMEs, manufacturers, and other micro-enterprises. This is because the rich have more exposure to exchange rate activities and transactions. Some of them even suffer more.

“That is why we saw many instances of some companies declaring huge losses as a result of these reforms, particularly, the foreign exchange reforms that took place. So, you can say that the rich also cry.

“There are some people in the upper bracket that are suffering a lot. In fact, their business went under because they could no longer afford to import and if they imported anything, the landing costs were so high that to get people to buy the goods became extremely difficult.

“So, the challenges of the reforms are very profound even for the rich. So, it is something that cuts across everybody. But just like I said, it is easier for the rich, in most cases, to absorb these shocks than the poor.

“Again, if you look at it from the energy point of view, the cost of diesel over the last six months has also gone very high, and most of the people and businesses that use diesel are people in the middle to high-Income bracket.
“We know the implication of that even for their businesses. So, the impact on the rich is even more because if their businesses are not doing well, there’s no way they will claim that they are getting better.”

He, however, said that people who are big shareholders in the financial sector, especially the banks and others who operate in sectors that have monopoly privileges seem to enjoy the benefits of the reforms by virtue of the fact that they are in a sector that’s generally favoured almost in all seasons.

“But on balance, I think the reforms have affected both the rich and the poor. It is very difficult to say that the rich are getting richer. If you convert what some of the people you call rich have in dollars, it is almost peanuts. The value of what they own in terms of riches has dropped significantly except, of course, if you are talking about the political class.

“This is because politicians are not doing any business, and they are not borrowing money. Moreso, they have access to government resources, some legitimate, some not too legitimate.”

Do you know what the term " lobbyist" means?

It is a legal way of owning a senator by a corporation , to push their agenda, while paying these senator through the backdoor eg you can invite a senator to give a book lecture and pay him $10 mill .
That same talk could be paid for by $50,000 but because you are indirectly paying him to push bills in your company's interest, you pay him in a way that you are not directly at risk of law.

But this doesn't apply here. The weapons manufacturing companies are not the ones going to the Senate for these approvals to be made.

The military seeks funds for military hardware, they go to Congress for funds. Congress gives them the funds (by way of military budget for example) and they pay the companies to produce the weapons they want.

It will make more sense if you said these companies lobby the US military establishment (which is what really happens). They are the ones that will then go to Congress to impress on the need for them to allocate funds for the manufacturing, upgrading, maintenance of military hardware. Upon approval, the contract is given to these companies.

The US Congress from time to time, invites top US military personnel to come defend why a certain military hardware is needed or shouldn't be scrapped. I have never seen where they invited a defense contractor to come explain why they are manufacturing F-35 fighter jet, for example, for the military. That may happen if maybe they are carrying out an investigation into a certain program.

Here is my point; The Senate has little or no business with US weapons manufacturers so lobbying them rarely arises.

1. Defense contractor lobbies the US military establishments on the need for the military to own a certain hardware (e.g fight jet, missiles etc)

2. The military goes to Congress to ask for funds for these hardwares, providing evidence of the benefits it provides to the US.

3. Congress gives approval, contract is awarded to the company.

- Prince Onu Nweze -- A small chief from Ebonyi state who, according to Prince Ayoade, the former Zonal Vice Chairman Southwest, was an informant to the army during their era with General Babangida.
- Mr Dipo Olayokun -- An ex-member of the Minaji television, a member of NAGAFF who was seconded to represent NAGAFF at the National Working Committee of NNPP. He betrayed NAGAFF and is now declared persona non grata by the board and members.
- Hajia Aliyu Shade -- A close woman friend of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso holding our bag of money in a separate account. All monies as donations to the party and offshore monies during nomination enlistment of candidates. Indeed, she was in charge of NNPP situation room, changing names of candidates of those that pay higher amounts and reporting to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso alone.

GENERAL COMMENT:

There are a few respected individuals who refused to be converted into the Kwankwasiya movement, who are still studying the situation in NNPP and are likely to burst in anger shortly. Some of them are from APC and TNM remnants. Those who won elective positions in the Senate, Federal House, and state assembly are not particularly happy with the change of party logo, flag, and mutilation of the constitution to suit the ideals of the Kwankwasiya movement. These groups of members are looking forward to the 2027 general election and their position and relevance. What happens to them if Kwankwaso fails on this unjustified betrayal attitude.

The truth is that some of our judges are not bold enough to serve justice probably because of the level of insecurity in our country. The two judges of the Federal High Court in Awka and Abuja have no reason to rule that the crisis in NNPP is internal, wherein there are two leadership tussles. All the judges needed to do is to exercise jurisdictional powers over the NNPP constitution to deliver judgment and give direction for resolution.

However, since the lower courts have decided otherwise, it is our hope and belief that the appellate courts and/or the Supreme Court shall be bold enough to serve justice to society. The Supreme Court of Kano State refers in the case of Gov Abba Kabir and Gawuna of APC.

If this is the understanding of Barr Johnson Ladipo of the Kwankwasiya movement that NNPP under Major Agbo Gilbert leadership has lost in the cases, then it is most unfortunate and regrettable that the parents of Barr Ladipo Johnson must have wasted their hard-earned money to train him as a lawyer.

INEC IN ITS STATUTORY FUNCTIONS AS AN AGENT OF THE GOVERNMENT CHARGED WITH THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF REGULATION AND CONTROL OF ELECTIONS IN NIGERIA:

With every sense of humility and due respect, the chairman of INEC needs to increase his supervisory role over his SUBORDINATES especially in the area of the rule of law and systemic corruption and although societal.

It is trite in law and court rule that once a matter is before a court and parties duly served, it means that the court has arrested the matter. All parties must remain in their original position until a pronouncement is made by the court.

It is, therefore, very shameful, systematic in corruption and disrespectful to court rule for INEC to witness the illegal convention of the Kwankwasiya movement masquerading as NNPP despite the fact that INEC was duly served with court notice. This is not good for our country and election matters in Nigeria.

On the other hand, Senator Kwankwaso's leadership in Kwankwasiya is most unfortunate. This is because he is expected to show a good example to his followers. As a former lawmaker, minister of defense, Gov of Kano State, and other responsible positions he held, one expected him to be a good ambassador of the rule of law.

Unfortunately, despite the fact that he was duly served with court notice, he went ahead to conduct the illegal convention and ran out of the country to the USA. This level of impunity is not good for our society.

It is to us that in a civil society, the police are angels of God on earth with inherent powers to call to order individuals and operators of the agencies of the government who act against the norms of society when reported. The IGP is expected to take appropriate action to deal with avoidable circumstances including prosecution.

May we, therefore, call the attention of the INEC CHAIRMAN, INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE, AND INDEED THE CHIEF JUDGE OF THE FEDERATION TO ASK QUESTIONS IN THE MATTER OF NNPP VS SENATOR RABIU MUSA KWANKWASO FOR THE PEACE OF THE SOCIETY.

On this note, we the leadership and members of the New Nigeria People's Party shall continue to be law-abiding citizens for the peace and development of our country. It is equally mandatory that we shall continue to support the president of Nigeria and other leaders in this trial time of our country.

The mantra of new hope for Nigeria is a task that must be achieved, and therefore, we must join hands to make Nigeria great once again. To achieve that, we must work together very hard. We must be law-abiding citizens and show love for God to all manner of people that may come our way.

Let us also pray for our country and the likes of Senator RABIU MUSA KWANKWASO to understand that it is only God who decides who shall be the king.

In the Presidential election, Tinubu scored 8.9 million votes. Atiku scored 8.6 million votes and Obi scored just under 7 million votes. Tinubu’s victory was not overwhelming, proving that he was not nationally accepted. Close to 16 m Nigerians voted against him, showing that he was not popular nationally. Providence gave him the seat and there we are today.

Today, Nigerians face the kind of hardship never envisaged in the history of the country. Excuses from the ruling party is the order of the day. As of this morning, Lagosians have started queues for petrol once again, with petrol selling at close to 700 at some filling stations. The cost of living is over the roof, with all Nigerians, including the so called rich feeling the impact. While you supporters talk of hope, in your closets you cry following the strange impoverishment inflicted by your patron. When will you wake up and start holding your political leaders accountable for their misrule? How would you continue to eulogize those who impoverish you, while the prepare their children to Lord it over you in the future?

During the campaigns, Tinubu called Obi “a boy”. Who became the boy between them all. If Atiku left the platform for Obi, would Tinubu have arrived at that seat? Where have you found the mouth to talk about balls when Obi completely overwhelmed Tinubu in his base, Lagos? Or you do not know that if not for the split of PDP into three parties, APC would have become history in 2023?

Campaigns are over. Rather than hold government accountable for the unfavorable policies leading more Nigerians to poverty, you choose Obi, ignorantly believing like Reno Omokri, that you de-market him.
