Israel Vows To Continue Gaza War ‘With Or Without International Support’

Israel has declared that it will continue with its Gaza war "with or without international support" after it came under mounting pressure even from its key backer the United States.

Israeli foreign minister, Eli Cohen, on Wednesday, told a visiting diplomat that a ceasefire at the current stage is a gift to the terrorist organization, an AFP report published by Barron’s said.

“Israel will continue the war against Hamas with or without international support," said Cohen.

"A ceasefire at the current stage is a gift to the terrorist organisation Hamas, and will allow it to return and threaten the residents of Israel," Cohen told a visiting diplomat, quoted by his ministry.

Now in its third month, the war was launched in response to the unprecedented attacks on Israel by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on October 7 that Israeli officials say killed 1,200 people.

It has left Gaza in ruins, killing more than 18,600 people, mostly women and children, according to the latest toll from the Hamas-run health ministry, and causing "unparallelled" damage to its roads, schools and hospitals.

The UN General Assembly overwhelmingly backed a non-binding resolution for a ceasefire on Tuesday.

But more air strikes hit Gaza and gun battles raged, especially in Gaza City, the biggest urban centre, and Khan Yunis and Rafah in the south, AFP correspondents said.

The UN General Assembly passed a resolution Tuesday demanding a ceasefire, backed by 153 of 193 nations -- surpassing the 140 or so that have routinely condemned Russia for invading Ukraine.

While the United States voted against the resolution, it was supported by allies australia, Canada and New Zealand, who, in a rare joint statement, said they were "alarmed at the diminishing safe space for civilians in Gaza".

Biden told a campaign event that Israel had "most of the world supporting it" immediately after the October 7 attack, but that "they're starting to lose that support by the indiscriminate bombing that takes place".

The US leader, who toned down his comments later, on Wednesday met with families of American hostages from among those the militants seized on October 7.

Despite the criticism from its main ally, Israel vowed to press on with its war on Hamas.

Biden's national security advisor, Jake Sullivan, will travel to Israel on Thursday to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has said there is "disagreement" with Washington over how a post-conflict Gaza would be governed.

Sports / Katia Bissonnette: Female Boxer Withdraws From Tournament Over Transgender Rival by MrSundry: 7:45pm On Nov 23, 2023
Female boxer withdraws from Canadian tournament after being told her rival was transgender with an HOUR'S notice, leaving her fearing for her safety

Dr. Katia Bissonnette, from Saguenay, claims she was given just an hour's notice she was being matched with transgender fighter Mya Walmsley last month.

The two had been due to face off in the 2023 Provincial Golden Glove Championship in Victoriaville, Quebec.

But Bissonnette withdrew at the last second after learning the identity of her opponent, resulting in Walmsley being declared the winner by default as they could not find anyone else to take her position in the same weight class.

'Women shouldn't have to bear the physical and psychological risks brought by a man's decisions regarding his personal life and identity,' Bissonnette told Reduxx. 'There should be two categories: biological male and female.'

She also cited a study by the University of Utah which found that men can punch 163 per cent harder than women.

Studies on the strength of transgender women suggest that hormone blockers may reduce this biological advantage slightly.

According to Boxing Canada, a trans fighter's identity should not be disclosed if a transition was undertaken before puberty to prevent discrimination.

Walmsley is originally from australia her history is not known, Bissonnette said. She claims that Walmsley's file indicates 'zero fights as a woman' in Canada.

For her part, Walmsley has criticized Bissonnette for publicly outing her rather than approaching her directly for a resolution.

'This kind of behavior puts athletes at risk of being excluded or receiving personal attacks based on hearsay,' Walmsley said in a statement.

'I am afraid that this type of accusation could eventually be used to delegitimize athletes in the women's category, and justify arbitrary and invasive regulations.'

Goalkeeper Nnadozie made the list for the Women's Goalkeeper of the Year prize just as Waldrum was nominated in the Coach of the Year category. Super Falcons’ Asisat Oshoala and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie made the cut as Nigeria dominated the shortlist for the 2023 CAF Women’s Awards. The continent’s governing body released a shortlist of nominees on Tuesday afternoon, with the Super Falcons and their coach Wandy Waldrum also making the cut.

Oshoala, who plays for Barcelona Femeni, won the treble, including the Champions League with the Spanish giants, and is on the cusp of winning a record-extending sixth CAF Women’s Player of the Year Award. She is the current holder – her fifth gong to surpass compatriot Perpetua Nkwocha’s record. She was also a 2023 Ballon d’Or nominee. Apart from Oshoala, other Nigerian nominees for the Player of the Year include Nnadozie, Christy Ucheibe, Osinachi Ohale, Toni Payne, and Uchenna Kanu. Goalkeeper Nnadozie made the list for the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year prize just as Waldrum was nominated in the Coach of the Year category.

There were also other Nigerian nominees for Young Player of the Year as Deborah Abiodun, Esther Ajakaye and Oluwatosin Demehin made the list. The Super Falcons are also in contention for the Team of the Year Prize after a gallant showing at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand and australia.

In the male category released earlier in the year, Victor Osimhen was nominated and is expected to become the first Nigerian since 1999 to land the prize. Player of the Year (Women). This year’s CAF awards will take place in Marrakech, Morocco on December 11, 2023.

Sports / Boxing: Ajagba Knocks Goodall Out In Nevada by Ikaeniyan0: 5:16am On Nov 06, 2023

WBC silver heavyweight champion Efe Ajagba got his revenge over Joe Goodall in their rematch on Sunday (Nigerian time).

WBC silver heavyweight champion Efe Ajagba got his revenge over Joe Goodall in their rematch on Sunday (Nigerian time).

The hard-hitting Nigerian heavyweight contender stopped australia’s Goodall in the fourth round of their 10-round main event at Tahoe Blue Event Center in Stateline, Nevada.

Referee Tony Weeks stopped their fight 50 seconds into the fourth round because Goodall had taken too many unanswered punches.

Ajagba improved his record to 19-1 and produced his 14th knockout. Brisbane’s Goodall (10-2-1, 9 KOs), who was still standing when their fight ended, lost inside the distance for the first time during his five-year pro career.

Ajagba avenged his split-decision defeat to Goodall at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Goodall came into their fight after producing his most noteworthy professional win, a sixth-round stoppage of Stephan Shaw on July 22 at FireLake Arena in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Shaw (18-2, 13 KOs) went the distance with Ajagba in his previous fight, a 10-rounder that Ajagba won by unanimous decision on January 14 in Verona, New York.

Ajagba drilled Goodall with a right hand that wobbled Goodall about 35 seconds into the fourth round. Sensing that Goodall was ready to go, Ajagba unloaded an array of power punches that made the referee step between them to spare Goodall from taking unnecessary punishment.

Ajagba has now successfully defended his WBC title for the first time as he continues to build his name in the heavyweight division.

Sports / Cricket World Cup 2023: Afghanistan Beat The Netherlands by davidikwo13(m): 9:07am On Nov 04, 2023
ICC Men's World Cup, Lucknow
Netherlands 179 (46.3 overs): Engelbrecht 58 (86); Nabi 3-28
Afghanistan 181-3 (31.3 overs): Hashmatullah 56* (64), Rahmat 52 (54)
Afghanistan won by seven wickets
Scorecard . Table.
Afghanistan continued their late surge for a place in the World Cup semi-finals with a seven-wicket win over the Netherlands in Lucknow.

The victory moves Afghanistan level with australia and New Zealand on eight points, with only net run-rate now keeping them out of the top four.

Hashmatullah Shahidi hit an unbeaten 56 as Afghanistan passed their target of 180 with 18.3 overs to spare.
Netherlands were earlier dismissed for 179 inside 47 overs.

The win tees up a potentially pivotal encounter against australia in Mumbai on Tuesday, though the five-time winners have a game in hand against England on Saturday.
Afghanistan also still have to play in-form South Africa in their final group game.

Pakistan are still in the top-four race and can move to eight points if they beat New Zealand in Saturday's early match.

Victory for New Zealand would see Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands and England all eliminated, given australia and Afghanistan face each other, so at least one of them will score a minimum of nine points.

Sports / Henry Winter, Editor-in-chief Of Times On Why He Voted Leo Messi For Ballon D'or by Casham: 12:24pm On Nov 03, 2023
Henry Winter, editor-in-chief of The Times on why he voted for Leo Messi for the Ballon d'Or.
“This may be the last time we celebrate Messi as the best player in the world, but the issue has nothing to do with nostalgia, nor with clinging to a romance that is fading. Rather, Messi deserves the Ballon d'Or.
When I voted for England for the Ballon d'Or, I thought carefully about the incredible work of Haaland and Mbappé, studied their amazing statistics and best shots, and then came back to Messi.
Messi led Argentina to win the World Cup last season with a performance comparable to Maradona's in the 1986 World Cup.
Football is about titles and Messi's performance in Qatar showed that he deserved first place and six points. Although Messi's career was brilliant with four Champions League titles, he needed a World Cup.
All the pressure was on their shoulders, especially with a young coach like Scaloni and a team that included three important young players in Enzo, Álvarez and Mac Allister. At times, especially after the first surprising loss against Saudi Arabia, Messi was under more pressure, and when his country needed him most, Messi responded.
He won the award for best player in the World Cup and scored 7 goals of quality and variety: long-distance goals against Mexico and australia, deep goals against France and penalty kicks taken with different left, right, high and low goals. Messi also gave three assists and played every minute of the tournament.
No player has taken more shots on goal than him (32). Only Antoine Griezmann has more key passes than Messi, who has 21. Only Musiala and Mbappé dribbled more than him, and no player was exposed to more fouls than him.
If some of those who mock him might suggest that referees are influenced by his reputation, the reality is that Messi is being attacked and his amazing movements confuse opponents who jump and catch him.
By all standards, Messi was the most effective in the most important tournament in sport, but Messi is not just numbers, he is much more. Messi is poetry. Messi is the one who surprises you. Messi is that sudden burst of speed and that touch to keep the ball away from a defender like Gvardiol.
Messi is a special role model for the younger generation who follows the stars as much as the teams. Attending a match with your team is completely different from another match. “A Messi match in itself is considered an event.”

Sports / Lionel Messi Wins Record-Extending Eighth Ballon D’or Award by AImiron: 11:01pm On Oct 30, 2023
The winner of the 2023 Ballon d’Or has been announced and Lionel Messi has won a record-extending eighth award.

The Inter Miami and Argentina striker, who played for Paris Saint-Germain last season, captained Argentina to the World Cup in Qatar last December, ending a 36-year wait for the South American country. Messi, 36, has won the award three times more than anyone else.

Lionel Messi was named the Ballon d’Or 2023 winner at a ceremony in Paris on Monday, the eighth time he has won the prestigious award.

Messi captained Argentina to 2022 World Cup success in Qatar last winter, the first time he won the tournament which ended a 36-year wait for La Albiceleste.

The 36-year-old scored twice in a blockbuster final against France in December which finished 3-3 after extra-time, scored in the penalty shoot-out and was named player of the match.

Messi fought off competition from Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and former Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Kylian Mbappe, as well as 26 other nominees to win the award.

In a league title-winning season for PSG, he played 41 matches during the 2022/23 season, scored 21 goals and provided 20 assists.

At the World Cup in Qatar, Messi scored twice in the group stage and was on target in each knockout round, scoring against australia, the Netherlands and Croatia, and then in the final.

He finished second in the top goalscorer charts with seven goals and received the Golden Ball at the conclusion of the tournament in recognition of his fine campaign.

On stage, he said: "Thank you very much, to share this with my national team-mates for what we were able to achieve with the national team.

"The entire group, the coaching staff, everyone involved. I’m delighted to be here once more to be able to enjoy this moment one more time.

"To be able to win the World Cup and really achieve my dream, to share this with all those who were involved."Fittingly, after his World Cup success, he added: "To finish, I want to say happy birthday to Diego Maradona."

After his contract at PSG ran out in the summer, Messi moved to Inter Miami in MLS on a free transfer and was one of three players nominated for the award who do not currently play in Europe.

The former Barcelona forward spent 17 years with the Spanish club between 2004 and 2021 and also won the award in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019 and 2021.

He was 22 years old when he won his first in 2009 and 14 years later has sealed a record eighth award.

FIFA has banned former Spanish football federation chief Luis Rubiales from the sport for three years for misconduct at the Women’s World Cup final where he forcibly kissed player Jenni Hermoso on the lips at the trophy ceremony.

This case relates to the events that occurred during the final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup on 20 August 2023, for which Mr Rubiales had been provisionally suspended for an initial period of 90 days,” world football’s governing body said in a statement on Monday.

FIFA did not publish details of the verdict reached by its disciplinary committee judges, who had investigated charges relating to “basic rules of decent conduct” and “behaving in a way that brings the sport of football and/or FIFA into disrepute”.

Rubiales is also under criminal investigation in Spain for kissing Hermoso after the team’s 1-0 victory over England on August 20 in Sydney, australia. He denied wrongdoing to a judge in Madrid who imposed a restraining order for Rubiales not to contact Hermoso.

At the final whistle in Sydney, Rubiales had also grabbed his crotch as a victory gesture in the exclusive section of seats with Queen Letizia of Spain and 16-year-old Princess Sofia standing nearby.

Rubiales was removed from office by FIFA judges during their investigation, and they also cited a third incident – “carrying the Spanish player Athenea del Castillo over his shoulder during the post-match celebrations” – in a ruling to explain why he was provisionally suspended.

The risk of witness tampering by Rubiales and his allies was also cited to justify the interim ban that is now confirmed to extend beyond the next men’s World Cup in 2026, being hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Rubiales resigned from his jobs in football in September after three weeks of defiance that increased pressure on him from the Spanish government and national team players.

“After my swift suspension by FIFA, and the rest of the cases building against me, it is clear that I cannot return to the post,” Rubiales said on September 10 while giving up the federation presidency he had held since 2018.

Rubiales also had to give up his vice presidency of the European football body UEFA, which paid him 250,000 euros ($265,000) each year. UEFA later thanked Rubiales for his service in a statement.

When Rubiales resigned, which was coordinated with an interview with a British cable news channel, he noted not wanting to be a distraction from Spain’s bid to host the men’s 2030 World Cup in a UEFA-backed project with Portugal and Morocco.

That bid has since been picked by FIFA as the only candidate to host the 2030 tournament in a plan that now also includes its former opponents Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.

Rubiales can request details of the FIFA disciplinary verdict within 10 days and then file an appeal, football’s world body said. He could file a further appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Sky Sports customers can now look forward to watching 64 live Premier League games - including an epic showdown between Liverpool and West Ham!

There are also games from the Championship, EFL Cup and Major League Soccer as well as qualifying rounds of UEFA Champions League involving British teams that are broadcast via Friday Night Football, Saturday Night Football, Renault Super Sunday and Monday Night Football programmes.
Tottenham vs. Fulham

The Premier League, commonly referred to as "the Premiership", is the top level of English professional football and one of the world's most competitive and renowned club soccer tournaments.

On Saturday, Tottenham and Fulham played out an entertaining Premier League clash at White Hart Lane, with Harry Kane scoring twice to give Spurs their advantage after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg had given Fulham an early advantage. Fulham battled back late, yet these London rivals remain just three points apart at this stage in the season; their next meeting will come on Wednesday when they meet once more for rearranged Carabao Cup third round action at Craven Cottage.
Manchester United vs. Everton

Gary Neville believes Manchester United are still far off challenging for a place in the top four, though their record against Manchester City stands out.

Scott McTominay scored the decisive goals that helped United end a three-game losing streak against Brentford with a 2-1 win on Tuesday and is expected to do it again against Everton.

Everton will be without Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Seamus Coleman for their trip to Old Trafford, as well as Jean-Philippe Gbamin who could also miss out, although more alternatives exist this season than last.
West Ham vs. Bournemouth

The Premier League is the world's most-watched football league with games broadcast in over 200 territories to more than one billion homes worldwide. It boasts some of the greatest clubs, stadiums and players in football.

Wind whipped through Sincil Bank and it took until the final quarter before visitors finally found their groove, scoring an outstanding second goal to secure victory and take all three points.

Soucek scored when he met Sam Benrahma's low corner and prodded it home at the near post, and West Ham substitute Maxwel Cornet nearly added a fourth but his late effort was disallowed for being offside.
Arsenal vs. Leeds

Arsenal are hoping to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League when they play Leeds United at The Emirates Stadium this Sunday. Mikel Arteta's side are currently eight points clear of Manchester City and could make this advantage 11 if they defeat Marcelo Bielsa's 14th place side - just two points above relegation zone - who sit 14th overall in Championship.

The Arsenal were virtually unstoppable in the weeks prior to the international break and will look to resume that form against Leeds, who are riding high following their 4-2 win against Wolverhampton last time out. Nottingham Forest vs. Wolves

Nottingham Forest will take on Wolves at Molineux on Sunday in a key Midlands derby that could provide crucial points at the bottom of the table. Both teams have fallen on hard times of late, so a win for either could help turn around their seasons.

Both teams will be missing several players for this match: Pedro Neto, Raul Jimenez and Chiquinho will not feature for the hosts while Jack Colback, Moussa Niakhate and Danilo Oliveria won't make their appearance for Wolves.

Due to the EPL blackout at 3pm Saturday, this match won't be shown live in the UK; however, fans in Canada and australia can watch live coverage through FuboTV and Optus Sport respectively.
Crystal Palace vs. Leicester

As the Premier League, EFL, and Scottish Premiership return with goal alerts, commentaries, lineups and more, you can personalise your home page to keep tabs on your favorite teams and leagues.

Leicester and Crystal Palace battled it out to an yalla shoot exciting 2-2 draw at Selhurst Park. Leicester started slowly but soon found themselves two goals up thanks to two pieces of brilliance from Dewsbury-Hall; his first saw him capitalize on miscontrol from Marc Guehi to reach the box, while his second was an eye-catching strike into the top corner.
Southampton vs. West Ham

Angelo Paqueta has yet to score for West Ham this season and will be eager to finally open his account when West Ham travel to face Southampton.

Ralph Hassenhutl's team won their opening match of the season back in August but have struggled since and now find themselves trying to avoid relegation.

James Ward-Prowse and Romeo Lavia use a quick tiki-taka move to get past two defenders near the sideline before continuing the team move and seeking an opening through their opponents' defense. Their matchup against them makes this approach highly effective.
Sports / Francis Uzoho: Super Eagles Coach Told To 'borrow' Super Falcons' Goal-keeper by tundetech3: 12:16pm On Oct 14, 2023
Nigerians have provided a solution for the goalkeeper dilemma in the Nigeria Super Eagles for head coach Jose Peseiro, with Super Falcons' Chiamaka Nnadozie named.

In the wake of a goalkeeping challenge faced by Nigeria’s Super Eagles, the head coach of the men’s team, Jose Peseiro, has received a suggestion to explore an alternative solution.

The proposal from some concerned Nigerians has encouraged Peseiro to consider enlisting the services of Super Falcons’ goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, to bolster the Super Eagles' goalkeeping options.

Nigeria vs Saudi Arabia: Uzoho howler
The Nigerian Eagles and their Green Falcons counterparts from Saudi Arabia faced off for the first time in a head-to-head at the Estadio Municipal de Portimao in Portugal on Friday evening.

Both nations delivered an exciting football match, with Nigeria dominating most of the four-goal thriller which saw them share the spoils after it ended 2-2.

However, a crucial moment involving Cyprus-based goalkeeper, Uzoho, became the biggest talking point of discussion from the clash.

Uzoho, the Nigerian goalkeeper, made an uncharacteristic error that allowed Saudi Arabia to break the deadlock on the hour mark.

This mistake proved to be costly in the end despite the Super Eagles fighting back to lead 2-1 at some point in the game thanks to two superb goals from Victor Boniface and Kelechi Iheanacho.

Saudi Arabia would deny Nigeria a win when Mohamed Kanno struck a late equaliser from another free kick to earn the Falcons a share of the spoils.

Nnadozie to help the Super Eagles
Following another costly slip-up from Uzoho, some concerned Nigerians have voiced their opinions with a suggestion that coach Peseiro should look to Super Falcons’ star Nnadozie as a solution.

Nnadozie, a standout talent for the Women’s team, has gained recognition for her skills and performance in the women’s game for club and country.

She was in superb form as Nigeria made it to the last 16 at the last FIFA Women’s World Cup co-hosted by australia and New Zealand, where she kept three clean sheets in four matches.

Nnadozie also proved decisive between the sticks as her club, Paris FC, knocked out Arsenal in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, UWCL.

Reacting to Uzoho’s performance, one of the concerned citizens Ebukanson said on , formerly Twitter “unpopular opinion, Chiamaka Nnadozie in this Super Eagles team will do better than Uzoho and Okoye.”

Jonah Sunday re-echoed Ebukanson’s comment when he added on Facebook; “Please, don’t use Uzoho in the next match. Let’s borrow Super Falcons goalkeeper instead.”

Her possible inclusion, as suggested by the Nigerians, in the Super Eagles setup could potentially provide a fresh perspective and additional experienced option for the goalkeeping position

The summary
However, the proposal does not intend to undermine Uzoho's abilities but to highlight the need for competition and alternatives in a critical position on the field ahead of future matches.

Coach Peseiro has since reacted in defence of Uzoho but added a commitment to addressing the challenges faced by his team.

As Nigerians continue to react and the discussions heighten, the football community remains hopeful that the Super Eagles will find a lasting solution that strengthens the goalkeeping department and enhances the team’s chances of competing in the next AFCON.

Nnadozie’s inclusion represents an interesting development that seeks to ensure that Nigeria remains one of the football giants in the continent.

Sports / FA Unlikely To Light Wembley Arch With Colours Of Israel Flag. by MANNABBQGRILLS: 12:10am On Oct 12, 2023
The Football Association is unlikely to light the Wembley arch in the colours of the Israel flag because of fears of a backlash from some communities.

The UK government has written a letter encouraging governing bodies in sport to "appropriately" mark the attacks in Israel this week with shows of support for the victims.

The government has not specifically asked the FA to light the Wembley arch.

Rather than lighting the arch, BBC Sport understands a message of peace and unity will be conveyed before England face australia in a friendly on Friday.

The FA has been in touch with Football australia to confirm there will be some form of acknowledgement for the victims before kick-off.

Last year the FA lit the arch in the blue and yellow colours of the Ukraine flag in solidarity with the country after it was invaded by Russia.

The death toll in Israel from Hamas' attacks has reached 1,200, while more than 1,100 people have been killed by Israeli air strikes on Gaza.

The FA, Premier League and individual clubs have not yet commented about the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

An FA meeting took place on Wednesday and a decision on how to mark the attacks is expected to be made on Thursday morning.

Some in attendance told FA senior executives that lighting the arch could be divisive.

It is understood senior officials are wary of a perception that they might be taking sides in the Middle East conflict.

Officials from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) wrote to major sports governing bodies on Wednesday asking them to show support for victims of Hamas' attacks and referenced precedents in sport.

"In the light of the attacks in Israel on behalf of the secretary of state we would encourage you to mark the events appropriately in line with previous events where sport has come together," the letter read.

The former FA chairman David Bernstein, who is Jewish, told the Daily Telegraph he was "shocked and hurt" by the governing body's lack of response to the attacks.

On Tuesday at Uefa's headquarters in Nyon, FA chair Debbie Hewitt told BBC sports editor Dan Roan that the association was "certainly considering" some kind of show of support for "innocent victims" after "the horrific scenes over the weekend".

"As we get closer to the game on Friday we will give some thought as to how best to recognise our concern" she said.

England manager Gareth Southgate is likely to be asked about the issue when he addresses the media on Thursday.

Uefa or Fifa have yet to issue statements about the violence and nor has the Premier League, with no matches until after the international break.

Several Jewish supporters groups, including those of Arsenal and Chelsea, released statements on Wednesday condemning "silence within the wider football community" and accusing authorities of "tying themselves in knots" trying to work out how to mark the atrocities.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have spoken to their squad about the wider implications of posting messages around the conflict on social media.

Ukraine full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko published a post saying 'I stand with Israel' while Egypt midfielder Mohamed Elneny has changed his profile pictures on social media to a Palestine flag.

Neither player has been told to remove the posts or profile pictures but they have been made aware of what the reaction and impact could be from those who view them.

Arsenal are also hosting an anti-semitism workshop on Thursday aimed at educating staff on the issue, although that was pre-planned as part of a long-term approach to inclusivity and diversity at the club, as opposed to a reaction to the recent conflict.

Oshoala was also a member of the Super Falcons team who won the African Women's Championship in 2016 and 2018. She scored three goals in the 2018 Edition in Ghana.

Oshoala vice-captained the Super Falcons at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France. During the team's second group stage match against South Korea, she scored in the 75th minute lifting Nigeria to a 2–0 win. Oshoala was named Player of the Match. Her goal was nominated for Goal of the Tournament by FIFA. Nigeria finished third in Group A and advanced to the knockout stages where they faced two-time champions Germany and were defeated 3–0 in a controversial match heavily influenced by video assistant referee (VAR).

On 16 June 2023, she was included in the 23-player Nigerian squad for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

In the Super Falcons second group stage game against host nation australia, Oshoala came in as substitute for fellow teammate, Uchenna Kanu, in the 63rd minute of regulation time and scored the third goal of the match for her team after ten minutes of play. This goal made her the first Super Falcons' player to score at three consecutive FIFA World Cups, having scored in the 2015 and 2019 editions and also the first African (and Nigerian) to score at three different FIFA Women's World Cups.

Personal life

Oshoala recounts that her parents were not supportive when she dropped out of school to pursue a football career. She is a Muslim.

Oshoala launched the Asisat Oshoala Foundation in 2019 focused on empowering girl footballers in Africa. The foundation hosts the annual Asisat Oshoala Foundation Football4girls tournament in Lagos. She is a NIKE Ambassador. In 2021, she was named to Forbes 30 Under 30. In October 2021, she was appointed unto FIFA's technical advisory group on the growth and advancement of women's football. The grouped is headed by Jill Ellis and has fellow African Doreen Nabwire also as a member.
