Politics / Insecurity: How Security Chiefs Secured Confidence Of Senators – Vanguard by ijustdey: 11:59am On Feb 16
…Kidnapping, banditry now economic crimes, Ribadu

…Murder of key bandits set actors in disarray

By Henry Umoru

FRESH facts are emerging from Tuesday’s closed session between the Senate and leadership of the nation’s security apparatus.

This is just as the security chiefs led by the National Security Adviser, NSA, Nuhu Ribadu, gave the Senators the achievements made so far by security agencies.

A very ranking Senator who was at the closed door session that lasted nine hours on Tuesday, told Journalists yesterday that though the lawmakers went into the meeting with a lot of misgivings and apprehension, the security chiefs allayed their fears and earned the confidence of the lawmakers.

The NSA, ministers and security chiefs took turns to give the lawmakers vivid accounts of their exploits and how they have averted major terrorist attack since President Bola Tinub took over in May last year.

The Senator who noted that Ribadu gave the lead presentation by taking them through different components of the security challenges, explaining how they met the situation and the changes so far, however spoke about how wanton violence has significantly gone down thus pushing down number of casualties from attacks by armed groups.

The NSA was said to have told the lawmakers that Boko Haram and ISWAP now resort to planting IEDs showing that they were regressing from their comfort zones, which he attributed the success in the fight against the Boko Haram to the gallantry of troops and the hard work of the Borno State Government.

According to the Senator, Ribadu who also told the lawmakers that 20 gunrunning networks were smashed and over 5,000 military grade weapons were seized and destroyed by government agencies, also disclosed to them that sporadic incidences of kidnapping being reported in most parts of the country were pointers that security kidnapping and banditry have now evolved into economic crimes substituting armed robbery as an easy means of making money through criminal means.

The NSA said that the country was today witnessing significant increase in oil production and ralative peace in the South-East region, which was hitherto bedevilled by activities of gunmen, due to concerted military and non-military steps,

The Senator said, “The Chief of Air Staff also gave an excellent account of how the air component of the war complements the work of troops on ground. He mentioned how they killed two key leaders of bandits Ali Kacalla and yellow Janburos and how that has helped to halt interstate movement of bandits and logistics especially around Kaduna, Niger and Zamfara States.”

The ranking lawmaker who recalled the Inspector General of Police also spoke about routing out criminals in the suburbans of Abuja and how his men have checkmated activities of one-chance criminals in the capital city.

Despite the satisfaction expressed by most lawmakers who spoke at the session, others pointed areas of operational lapses that deserve attention and urged the service chiefs to ensure harmony and cooperation for maximum success.

The lawmakers also tasked the minister of finance to prioritise release of funds to security establishments.

It would be recalled that at end of the marathon session on Tuesday, the Senate leadership expressed confidence in the leadership of the security sector and applauded their effort in addressing the security concerns.

Fashion / How To Find A Perfect Diamond Gemstone Ring For Women by jewelrynest: 7:09am On Feb 16
Diamond and ruby rings are classic pieces of jewelry that always look classy and elegant. These rings add a bit of glitz to any outfit, whether you're wearing them every day or for a special event. There are so many diamond jewel rings on the market that it can take time to choose the right one. This complete guide is meant to make picking out the best fashion gemstone rings for women easier and give you helpful information.

Understanding Diamond Gemstone Rings: The best gemstone rings are beautiful pieces of diamonds and other valuable gemstones. There are many different designs, settings, and types of these rings to fit a wide range of tastes. There is a diamond gemstone ring for every woman, from simple solitaire styles to elaborate settings that look old.

Quality Things to Think About: When choosing one, it's essential to consider the quality things that make a diamond gemstone ring beautiful and valuable. The "Four Cs"—cut, clarity, color, and carat weight—are very important in figuring out how good a diamond is. Another thing that makes the ring appealing is the diamond used and its features, like color saturation, clarity, and size.

How to Choose the Right Design: Designer gemstone rings come in many different designs, so you can find one that fits your style and attitude. Classic types, like the diamond or three-stone ring, are always popular because they are simple and classy. For a more substantial look, halo or cluster designs with smaller diamonds or gemstones add more sparkle and appeal.

Think About the Event: The event for which the diamond gemstone rings are meant can affect the design and style choice. Traditional styles with one diamond or a center stone ringed by smaller diamonds are famous for engagement rings. On the other hand, cocktail rings with more significant and fancier designs are better for formal parties or important occasions.

Choose Your Gemstones: Diamonds are the main feature of the best gemstone rings, but you can add more gemstones to make the design more unique and exciting. Adding colored jewels to the ring's design lets you make it unique and personal, whether it's bright sapphires, deep rubies, or emeralds. To make a truly one-of-a-kind and unique piece, think about birthstones, favorite colors, or gemstones that are important to you personally.

Metal Choices and Setting Styles: The metal choice and setting style are essential in how beautiful and long-lasting diamond gemstone rings are. Some common setting styles are prong, bezel, pave, and channel. Each gives the stones a different look and amount of safety. In the same way, the metal you choose—platinum, white gold, yellow gold, or rose gold—can match the pattern and make the diamonds and gemstones shine even brighter.

Budget Considerations: Setting a budget is very important when buying a diamond and gemstone ring because prices can be based on the metal choice, the design complexity, and the quality of the diamonds and gemstones. Purchasing a pricey ring is tempting, but finding a good mix between quality and price is essential. If you want the ring to shine the brightest within your budget, put cut and brightness at the top.

Certification and Authenticity: If you want to buy a diamond and gemstone ring, ensure that a reputable gemological laboratory has confirmed the diamonds and gemstones. Certifications guarantee that the gems' quality and originality were gathered ethically. Check out rings with certificates from well-known groups like the American Gem Society (AGS) or the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).

Maintenance and Care: Diamond jewel rings must be properly maintained and cared for to stay beautiful and last long. The ring stays in great shape with regular care, gentle soap and warm water, and professional checks and upkeep occasionally. It would be best if you also bought protection for the ring in case it gets lost, stolen, or damaged.

Diamond and jewel rings are signs of love, class, and beauty that never go out of style. People can easily choose the best gemstone rings for themselves or a loved one if they know what to look for in a ring, such as quality, design, occasion, personalization, setting styles, budget, certification, and upkeep. An anniversary, engagement, or other special event should be marked with a well-chosen diamond jewel ring that will be remembered and loved for years.

JeweleryNest marks the beginning of a lifelong commitment with an engagement, celebrating years of shared memories with an anniversary, or commemorating any special event. Choosing a diamond or jewel ring becomes a meaningful and lasting expression of love.

Beyond being a mere accessory, these rings become cherished artifacts, encapsulating the sentiments and memories of significant moments. With careful consideration of quality, design, occasion, personalization, setting styles, budget, certification, and upkeep, individuals can navigate the vast array of styles and select a ring that transcends time, embodying the enduring beauty of their unique love story.

Business / Chinese 'Sharprite' Store Opens Right Opposite 'Shoprite' In SA (PICS) by MzansiCoolio: 4:06pm On Feb 15
'SHARP' MEANS 'THUMBS UP' IN SOUTH AFRICA

Social media is abuzz after some people found it weird that just opposite the popular retailer Shoprite on Robert Sobukwe street in Sunnyside, Pretoria, there is a store named Sharprite.

While some see it as “pushing your luck” due to the familiarity, some think the competition between Shoprite and Sharprite is welcomed.

TimesLIVE visited both supermarkets on Wednesday.

As one stands outside the door of Sharprite and looks on the “sharp right” turn, opposite the street you find Shoprite.

Inside Sharprite, the store boasts about eight aisles stocked with everything from sugar, bedding essentials to water taps. But what sets the store apart from Shoprite is that many of their products are offered in bulk.

Sharprite also has no fridges in store so there are no refrigerated items in stock.

During TimesLIVE’s visit to the store, a man who wanted to buy a cold drink turned back empty-handed after inquiring about the fridge aisle for the drinks and he was told there are no fridges there.

Besides sounding similar, there are other similarities between the two shops. Both have their names written in bold red, Shoprite has a white outline to its text. Sharprite also has a big yellow smiling emoji in front, displaying a ‘sharp’ or thumbs-up gesture.

A bottle of 2l cooking oil at Sharprite starts from as little as R43.99 [vs R59.99 Ritebrand Sunflower Seed Oil 2L at Shoprite], while a carton of six milk 1lt boxes starts from as little as R89.99 [Ritebrand R98.99]. A 10kg bag of flour costs R127.99 at Sharprite, while similar flour of the same size costs a few cents more at Shoprite at R129.99.

While in the area, TimesLIVE noticed that a lot of the foot traffic is at the Shoprite as people buy daily essentials, including cold drinks and water. A few people also entered Sharprite to buy tools and other essentials.

While Shoprite, which is one of Africa’s leading brands is owned by South African, Christo Wiese, TimesLIVE understands that Sharprite is Chinese-owned.
The store has extended its reach from Pretoria and is also found in Middelburg, Mpumalanga province.

LASTMA is introducing Ticket Alert - a solution to drive the voluntary compliance of motorists with traffic laws, while ensuring a hassle-free experience on Lagos roads.

LASTMA is now equipped with modern technology to assist in identifying traffic violators, making it practically impossible to escape when you have pending fines on traffic offences such as driving with expired vehicle license, roadworthiness or insurance, among other offences. Once your vehicle is captured by the app and registers you as an offender with unsettled fines as a result of traffic violation, you simply get a yellow sticker on your vehicle as a reminder to settle any outstanding fines within a 30-day period. Note that failure to do so after the expiration of the 30 days ultimatum will result in your vehicle being impounded.

For more information visit https://www.paylasg.ng. You can check for outstanding fines using your plate number and make payment.
LASTMA's Ticket Alert is your friendly signal to settle up and enjoy a stress-free ride.
Join us in this road safety revolution! Together, let's drive responsibly.

Impressive.
You see this hustle, na sense e require. Plus target.
You don't need to drive your ass vigorously before you can hit your target.
Indrive will give you what you want with lesser stress that comes with peace of mind, everything under your control.
What you make weekly (3 days) is enough for ómóluabi.
If one is not greedy, you will make good savings, take care of your car comfortably without your own health breaking down.
Soft work, cool profit.
You're doing well, baba.

Much respect, boss. ✌

Thank you boss, people don’t take this into consideration.

All these old baba driving yellow taxis don’t just look old for no reason.

You no fit drive Lagos finish calm down. Focus on ride that profit u, not just clicking yes on everything, cos u pick long trip with far pickup 4,500 annd another person wey wait one minute fit see short trip , quick pickup for 2,500 . na u loose.

The more you drive ur car, the more u repair
The more u drive, the more u monitor ur health too.

Take for example, I only did 2 trips yesterday.
1 on indrive ikeja to Ajah 13,500
And ajah to igando , showed 17,900 but customer was scared of increase, so we bargained 20k , which paid cos there was traffic anyway. .

Gross :33k 500.

I refilled 10k fuel .

Net should be 23k there about. Started feeling a bit weak (malaria) and went to sleep.
If I wasn’t weak sef, 2 more trip, I’m done.

So Whether rentals or HP. Never do 7 days weekly.

Car Talk / "The Painter's Silence" by Mikelincon001: 12:39pm On Feb 11
In the heart of Paris, tucked away in a cobblestone alley, lived an old painter named Marcel. He was known for his vibrant landscapes, but for months, his canvas remained untouched, his palette dry. The locals whispered about Marcel's silence, for it was his art that once brought life to the little alley. One spring morning, a curious girl named Sophie peered into Marcel's studio. She found him staring at a blank canvas, lost in thought. "Why don't you paint anymore?" she asked. Marcel sighed, "I've lost my colors, child. The world seems to have faded." Sophie pondered this and returned the next day with a single, brilliant sunflower from the market. She placed it on his windowsill. "Start with this," she urged. Marcel hesitated but lifted his brush, and as he did, the sunflower's yellow sparked a memory of a golden sunset he once loved. With each stroke, the colors returned to him – blues of the Seine, greens of the Versailles gardens, and the rosy hues of dawn over Montmartre. As days passed, Marcel's canvas bloomed with life, and soon, the alley once again was draped in the splendor of his art. The locals gathered, marveling at the transformation. Sophie smiled, knowing that sometimes, all it takes is one color to restore an artist's soul. And in the corner of every painting he made henceforth, Marcel added a small sunflower, a symbol of hope and the little girl who brought color back into his world.

Religion / The Higher Advocates For The Hierarchy by PCHC(m): 1:00pm On Feb 10
DANIEL 3:14

[Daniel 3:14 NKJV] - Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up?

[ICB] - And Nebuchadnezzar said, “Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, is it true that you do not serve my gods? And is it true that you did not worship the gold statue I have set up?

THE HIGHER ADVOCATES FOR THE HIERARCHY

In this Bible verse above, a pagan king called three Jewish Christians by their pagan names (that he earlier gave them); and examined/tried them in a court before his throne, asking if they were gulty as charged for neither rendering services to the king's gods nor worship to the king's idol of gold image,

Two things to learn from the bible verse above and apply in your decisions hereafter:

*1* - Learning from the 3 Jewish Christians (All the men of God, women of God or true servants the Lord in the Old Testament were Christians even before the Lord became born as Son of God).
They were given or addressed with pagan names associated with the gods of that king who gave them those names (Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego), but they never served or worshiped those gods of those kings. They were not denying/rejecting those pagan names they were called, but they were denying/rejecting the gods and the paganism in their names. As in, they were like bearing names of that different religion of Babylon, but they were showing people they were Jews and true Christians. It's like a Christian who's name is 'Muhammad Mecca' and yet he has nothing in connection with the religion of Islam or Muslimism though he answers a Muslim associated names.

Do not waste time in changing your names just because they pagan or other religion's root/connection. Whatever name any body gives to you, whether it's a pagan name, Muslim name, Idol name, Occultic name, Devilish/Diabolical name, Witchcraft name, Insulting or Disrespectful name or evil name etc., just answer and don't try to fight against what people call you. Flow with whatever name or title they call you, except when they call you "Father in the Lord, call you Spiritual Father, call you God, call you the Christ, call you the Savior, the Master of all, the Lord of all, the Teacher of all, or any name/title that should be reserved only for God and for the Lord Jesus Christ. So, you don't have to reject any evil or improper name they call or address you with, but do not accept the highest good or praise name they call you when that name should be to God and the Lord above only. E.g. There was no bad or evil name the Lord Jesus Christ was called by people that He outrightly rejected, including getting called Madman who was demon-possessed, Deceiver, Agent of Baalzebub the prince of demon, Samaritan with a devil/demon inside [John 8:48). And just to avoid people thinking it's true He has a devil/demon, the Lord Jesus denied having a devil/demon but never denied or rejected their calling Him a Samaritan. As it is written,

[John 8:48-49] - "The Jews answered and said to Him, “Are we not rightly saying that You are a Samaritan and have a demon?” Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon, but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me."

But on the other hand, as soon as someone called the Lord Jesus Christ, "Good Master" or "Good Teacher," He quickly addressed that title because it should be reserved to God alone. Written,

[Mark 10:17-18] — "And going forth on His journey, one having run up and having knelt down to Him, was asking Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do that I might inherit eternal life?” And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone."

In my childhood, I was called by people different names that I rejected but shouldn't have rejected, because of my being fair or light skinned in complexion but walking among dark skinned people: These included, "yellow Pawpaw, Albino, One who doesn't see in Daytime or in Sunlight, yellow, Unfortunate European born or living in Africa among blacks, One who's skin turns red when struck, yellow Pepper or some children would be singing after me when they see me passing [as those children that mocked Elisha calling him Bald-Head (2 Kings 2:23)], saying, "yellow Pepper, if you chop (eat) pepper, you go yellow more, more." There was an Hausa boy in my childhood days that usually call me, "Aljeni," and after several warning to stop him, I think I fought or almost fought him over it, (which I shouldn't have). The name "Aljeni or Aljenu" in Hausa means "Witch or Wizard,"

So, true Christians should not be fighting what people call them or think about them, except when that which people call them means those people are worshiping or idolizing those Christians or equating them with God or the Lord above. Example, Paul and Barnabas were called Hermes and Zeus, when people were about worshiping them as gods among them; but Paul and Barnabas tore their own clothes and ran to stop them (Acts 14:11-14).

[ICB] - And Nebuchadnezzar said, “Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, is it true that you do not serve my gods? And is it true that you did not worship the gold statue I have set up?

*2* - Learning from the king, Nebuchadnezzar here: Do not learn from him to serve man-made gods or idols, neither learn from him to worship gold or gods by statue/image. But this is what to learn from him here — The King (of kings) who judges those who serve him but do not serve whom he exalted and positioned for all men to serve, worship or honor. Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, served this King, but do not serve the gods or golden image the king had highly exalted and decreed that all men should serve.

I worked in an organization where I was under someone and I also had others under me. The one I am under have authority to command and to fire all under him, but after him in seniority I am next but I have no authority or power punish anyone under me or to command obedience or anyone under me like my senior have. And because of my nature, those under me would despise me, disregard or disrespect me, but they feared and honored my senior. Sometimes, my senior would do things that even make my juniors undermine my seniority, such as, in sharing food or portions, my senior would call my juniors to take theirs first before giving me the last or close to the last portion. And some other ways my senior classifies me as ordinary or same class with the juniors, treating me and all under him as "equals." And in his thoughts, he's being fair to all by treating us all as equals, and did not give me any special respect before my juniors. Infact, my juniors could disrespectful me in my senior's presence, and he would even support the juniors in taking sides with them, provided they all give him his own respect he would not mind or fight them if they don't give me my own respect.

Then I said in my spirit, this man shall failed in leadership, and therefore he shall not go far in kingdom governance, because he does not protect the respect and order of hierarchy or ranks in his leadership. Not men or women know the importance of ensuring that subordinates must both respect them and respect their seniors under them. Some parents, mostly mothers, would watch their younger children insult or disrespect their elder siblings, and if the elder siblings would beat the younger ones those mothers would protect the younger ones and spank the elder ones for attempting to strike the younger. That's selfish leadership because it cares about the respect, service and love, they received but do not care about upholding the integrity of Seniority, Hierarchy, Ranks, Order, Organogram etc.

Nebuchadnezzar, in the Bible verse above, demonstrated his wrath and zeal against the act of his servants who serve him but do not serve the gods or the one he set up. Yes, it is idol or man made gods, but appreciate how much this king would burn people in the furnace of fire, not just because they refuse to serve or recognize him as king but because they refuse to serve or regard his appointed superior over them. You, can you penalize your children or household because they refused to serve your God or worship Him as Nebuchadnezzar here did? I know when my parents punished me for not going to church. That their discipline was not just selfish, and it's like God commended Abraham that he would command his children after God. But many parents are selfish when they discipline their wards because they are only after their own respect or rewards, and not after the attitude of those children towards elders, towards neighbors, and towards God. True leaders would uphold the integrity of Seniority, Hierarchy, Ranks, Order, Organogram etc.

Now see it in the Lord God. You don't disrespect your senior under God and He ignore it, even if you respect God.

God Himself would tell you to love all men, honor all men, respect all men, and not just you doing so to Him.

God Himself would tell you as wife to respect, submit to your husband; as husband to love and honor your wife; as children to honor your parents; as servants to submit to your masters/mistresses; not just so to Him.

God Himself would tell you to subject to higher powers or hierarchy of governments, not just so to Him.

One who must remain in authority must uphold the integrity of Seniority, Hierarchy, Ranks, Order, Organogram, under him/her. Don't neglect how people under you treat their seniors, and make it seem as if whoever treats your appointees or messengers you ordained/sent is treating you the same. I have confidence that as a servant of God sent by the Lord, the Lord would plead my case if the people I am sent to disrespects me. And I know some consequences of disrespecting those the Lord sent to me or appointed over me. So do all things in hierarchy as to the Lord, not just to the man/woman in that position or hierarchy over you.

Nebuchadnezzar was not asking his 3 servants in the Bible verse above, Is it true that you do not serve me; for he knows they serve him. Rather he was asking them, Is it true that you do not serve my gods or golden image (whom I appointed or exalted over you)?

Do not let God ask you, "Is it true that you do not serve My Son, Jesus Christ, whom I exalted and commanded all angels and all men to serve, honor and worship, as they do to Me?" Is it true that you do not worship My Father nor do His Will?

Sports / Blue Cards In Football Is Being Considered by madfind: 11:32am On Feb 09
Blue cards will be used as part of a sin-bin trial to send players off the field for 10 minutes for committing cynical fouls - infractions that prevent a promising attack - or dissent, the report says.

Explained: What are blue cards in football that are being considered?

IFAB, football's law-making body, is set to announce blue cards as a way of sending players into sin bins for dissent and cynical fouls

Football’s law-making body International Football Association Board (IFAB) are set to trial sin-binning players and issuing blue cards. It will be a unique warning method different from the yellow and red cards that were used for the first time at the 1970 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.

Sin-bins have been used at grassroot levels of football for dissent but their reach could be expanded to higher levels to combat cynical fouls — like when a player takes down an opponent to stop a counterattack

The brief statement further said, “Any such trials, if implemented, should be limited to testing in a responsible manner at lower levels, a position that FIFA intends to reiterate when this agenda item is discussed at the IFAB AGM on 2 March.”

Low salaries: Players in lower leagues often have lower salaries, making them more susceptible to bribes.

Less media coverage: With fewer eyes watching, manipulating matches becomes easier.

Increased betting markets: The rise of online betting opens up more opportunities for fixers.

Financial difficulties: Smaller clubs can be more easily tempted by financial gains from fixed matches.
Instances of match fixing in lower leagues:

Here are some real-world examples:

2023: Singapore: 33 individuals, including players, coaches, and match officials, were charged with match fixing in the Singaporean football league.

2022: Italy: An investigation uncovered a match-fixing scandal involving Serie B and Serie C clubs.

2021: Germany: Multiple players in the Regionalliga, Germany's fifth tier, were caught manipulating matches.

2020: England: A former player in the National League, England's fifth tier, admitted to receiving bribes to throw matches.

It's important to note that these are just a few examples:

Numerous other cases go unreported or undetected.
Match fixing can take various forms, not just outright wins or losses. This includes influencing specific events like yellow cards, correct scores or corner kicks

Remember, even with these measures, it is impossible to completely eliminate match fixing. If you suspect any suspicious activity, you should do your homework.
