Properties / Basic Information You Need To Upscale Your Chance Of Study Visa Approval. by sternakin(m): 1:58pm On Apr 18 |
BASIC INFORMATION YOU NEED TO UPSCALE YOUR CHANCE OF STUDY VISA APPROVAL. Relocating to Canada, U.S.A or United Kingdom through study is one of the best route to moving with one's family and eventually securing a Permanent Residence. Getting admission to Canada, US or UK for study is a great achievement, however, that's just the first hurdle, before you can pack your bags and move to Canada, US or UK for your study, you must get a visa. Therefore, let's take a look at how an applicant can avoid getting a rejection on his/her study visa application. If you’re about applying for a Canadian study visa, kindly take very careful note of some common factors to watch out for when making your study visa application. Although, most International students are eligible to apply to come to study in Canada with family members (spouses & children). These are few things to note to do this successfully. Let it be known that when you applied for admission, you did that for yourself alone, but when applying for visa, you can include your family (spouse and children) for your study visa On that note, your visa application shall then be determined by three things: * Purpose of study * Proof of funds * Home ties These three things are the expectations for single applicants as well, but if applying as a family, you have a stronger justification to make. You will need to show additional funds to cater for the family, justify the importance of having family members with you, and have other ties to your country. Purpose of study: In your study plan/letter of explanation, you will need to convincingly explain the reasons you chose to study in Canada and why your spouse & children should accompany you to Canada. Your children and wife can apply for a visitor/study permit (depending on your program of study), and spouse, a visitor/work permit (depending on what they intend to do in Canada) NB: If you are a student going to a school/program that is not eligible for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP), your spouse is not eligible for the spousal open work permit (SOWP). This is one of the important reasons to ensure the program you apply for is eligible for PGWP. The study plan helps you to justify the purpose of your study & the importance of having your family with you so that your spouse can work and support the family while you're are studying. Other reasons could be anything from the fact that your children are young, or your family has never been apart before. Family unification is important to Canada, so you can leverage on that. Proof of funds (POF) If you intend to apply with your family, you will have to pay extra application fees & also show more POF than a single applicant. You must also show that you have sufficient funds to support yourself & the family members accompanying you without working in Canada. You are expected to show enough to cover your tuition and living expenses as the student; and the additional funds for the living expenses of those accompanying you. And the total funds you need will depend on your own family number. To be more practical, you need to show that you have the value of living expenses for one year (Naira equivalent of approximately CAD$26,400 for you in addition to the cost of your tuition for one year). Let’s say you wish to study for a Masters in Marketing for 2 years, and your tuition is $12,000 per year, you are expected to have the sum of $26,400 living expenses (1year) and $12,000 tuition for one year, a total of CAD$38,400. So if you have a family and you will be applying for them as well, you need to have an extra CAD$4000 for each of them for their living expenses per year. If you are applying alone (at first), then you or your spouse needs to show enough funds for the living expenses on your family (no definite amount for this but should be sizeable depending on your family size). Home ties Proof of home ties, this is very crucial and an important aspect of the Canadian study visa application owing to the fact that many applicants have been denied based on insufficient proof of home ties, that simply means having sufficient fund is not enough to guarantee your visa approval. As an international student, you are a temporary resident & need to show that you have reasons to leave Canada after your study (if required to do so). IRCC wants to see evidence of your home ties. Many applicants find it easier to use their family members as part of their home ties. But in the case you're applying with your family, it means you must be ready to show other ties. It could be your business, investments, employment, financial assets and most importantly landed properties (which are mostly preferred cos they hardly depreciate in value but appreciate more over time). Therefore, you must know what the visa officers want to see and craft your application to satisfy them. Submitting a valuation report of your landed assets (land & building) along with other required documents for visa application could actually boost your chance of visa approval. Either for visit, study, medical or other temporary or permanent residency visa applications, it is strongly advisable for applicants to provide a valuation report of their property(ties) in order to assist and convince visa officer about their economic/financial status in their home country and also as proof of strong home tie to pull the applicant to return on expiration of period granted. Property Valuation report could make a visa officer develop good mental picture of who the applicant is, it just like what CV is to a job recruiter. An employer can develop an idea who a job seeker is through the CV to decide if the job seeker should be considered or not. A valuation report describe in detail the property(ies) owned by the visa applicant and the corresponding value of such a property either a house undeveloped land, agricultural farmlands etc which undoubtedly could be a strong proof of the applicant tie to the home country that can pull him/her back after his/her study. This document shows the amount of wealth you own in property(ties) in your homeland which will make a strong pull factor for your return to your homeland once the purpose of your visit is over and that may eliminate doubt of your return and one point of visa rejection. Also, it could serve as a support document to your proof of fund which are usually liquid assets such as bank deposit etc. It will make lots of senses if you have good financial status as confirmed by your bank statement of account and property or assets valuation report to corroborate your status. Though, there are many who do not submit this document due to ignorance or it doesn't matter mind set but it would be wise to do it by a smart applicant especially if its a non apprearance visa application or the one you first submit your application for assesment prior to physical interview. It is important to prove that your housing assets is valuable as a strong home tie for returning after your study abroad or temporary visit and back up for proof of fund especially Canada Express Entry applicants and schooling. The report would be a guide to the visa officer to establish the affordability of expenses of visit, stay, study and that the applicant have assets that can be liquidated to raise funds if the need arises. Cath1234: Hey 🤠 *** Your faith in getting an F1 visa is like the faith of a Canadian (citizen). The only different is that YOU NEED AN F1 visa because you are not a citizen yet. 1. You must proof ties to Canada. 2. You must give a reasonable post-study plans . 3. You must show ability to pay your school fees and other miscellaneous expenses . 4. You must be ready to answer : Why this particular institution? Why Nursing ? Are there no institution in Canada that offers same quality nursing programs? 5. If you have lived up to 3 years in Canada, then you may have a better ride , but if you have just landed in Canada , then you should be ready for battle of communication with the consular. 6. USA & CANADA are like Coca Cola & Pepsi ( almost 95% of anything you can get in the USA is also obtainable in Canada or from Canada) . 7. You have to give a convincing reasons to get your visa . Best Wishes 🙏 |

Education / IRCC Changes Eligibility Requirements For Spousal Open Work Permits by Kishaimmigratio: 6:38pm On Mar 20 |
Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has released more details surrounding changes to eligibility for spousal Open work Permits (SOWP). On January 22, 2024, the department introduced several changes to Canada’s international student program. Among them, IRCC said that the spouses of international students in undergraduate and college programs will no longer be eligible for SOWPs. As of March 19, 2024, partners and spouses of international students are eligible for a SOWP only if their sponsor is enrolled in a master’s or doctoral degree program at a university or polytechnic institution in Canada. There are some exceptions for the spouses or partners of undergraduate students. Spouses of undergraduate students in one of the following professional degree programs at a university are also eligible to apply for an SOWP: • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS, DMD). • Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor (LLB, JD, BCL). • Doctor of Medicine (MD). • Doctor of Optometry (OD). • Pharmacy (PharmD, BS, BSc, BPharm). • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN, BSN, BNSc). • Bachelor of Education (B. Ed.). • Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng., BE, BASc). Spouses and partners applying for a SOWP must provide documents that prove a relationship to the student and one document showing proof of their partner’s enrolment in a degree-granting program of study. IRCC accepts: i) A valid Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI). ii) A proof of enrolment letter from their spouse or partner’s DLI. iii) Transcripts from their spouse or partner’s current program What if you already applied? IRCC says that those who applied for a SOWP before March 19 are still eligible if their partner: • Has a valid study permit. • Is eligible for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP). • Is a full-time student at one of these types of schools; i) A public post-secondary school, such as a college or university, or CEGEP in Quebec. ii) A private college-level school in Quebec. iii) A Canadian private school that can legally award degrees under provincial law (for example, a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree) These requirements are the same for current SOWP holders who apply to extend their existing permits. What if you’re not eligible? Spouses and partners who no longer meet the revised eligibility criteria have alternative options. They can explore other types of work permits or apply for a visitor visa (TRV). However, it's crucial to note that individuals entering Canada on a visitor visa are not permitted to work. IRCC's decision to narrow the eligibility for SOWPs stems from the aim to manage application volume and ensure the integrity of the program. Immigration Minister Marc Miller highlighted the need to focus SOWPs on partners of master’s and PhD students to address potential misuse of the program. So, while these changes might affect some spouses of international students, they're aimed at keeping the system running smoothly and helping families stay together in Canada. Kurukuru: On one hand you said the PM instructed they should use the SOWP to unite families and then you said that is why people think is for uniting families. I do not understand you here. Nigeria is not even in the top two countries sending students to Canada. |

Go and read the IRPA very well. The essence of the spousal Open work is not primarily to unite the families. It is under the International Mobility Pprogram aimed at supplementing the Canadian labour force. When the Trudea Government took over, he wrote a Mandate Letter to the Minister of Immigration to address the Canadian Labour shortage by uniting families through the spousal Open work permit program. That's why some people believe it is meant to re-unite families. Now, Canada is facing housing crisis and many white Canadians are complaining that foreign students and their families they are bringing to Canada are taking jobs away from them. Today, the popularity of the Liberal Party is dwindling, and the opposition is catching on it that the Liberal Party is bringing in "poor and low class students" to Canada. If you are in Canada, go and be listening to CBC programs on Immigration. Or you join the online forum on Immigration where the white Canadians are prominent. Go and read what they say about the international students and their family members. The Minister of Immigration himself said that as a result of the housing crisis, Canada need to reduce the intake of international students and the temporary foreign workers. How do you expect them to reduce the intake of foreign workers if not by refusing applications Olayinkayyyyy: |

I believe one of the reasons for the SOWP is to ensure that families are united. The spousal Open work permit from time has been the easiest Visa to get. Just get your proof of relationship well documented and your sufficient proof of funds handy and you're good to go. I believe the reason for the incessant rejections that Nigerians seem to be experiencing lately has nothing to do with food banks or no food banks, the major issue is with the recent policies on proof of funds. Most folks are finding it hard to really understand how to put their funds in place coupled with the exchange rate brouhaha. Imagine putting forward an application for a family of 3 with the sum of 10 million naira whilst thinking that you've put forward a strong application but, in the real sense of it, that is barely 9,000 CAD. Pending when the policy on the ban of SOWP for college students gets implemented, food bank or no food banks, as much as you're able to get proof of funds in place, you will get your SOWP. Properties / What Need To Be Done To Avoid Study Visa Refusal. by sternakin(m): 7:11am On Feb 28 |
WHAT NEED TO BE DONE TO AVOID VISA REFUSAL. For several applicants that wish to relocate to Canada, UK, Australia and the likes with their families via the study route. Their major worries are about issues/mistakes that could result lead to their visas refusal and what could be done to prevent same. Yea, securing admission to Canada, UK to study is a major achievement. However, before you can pack your bags and move to Canada for your studies, you must get a study permit/visa That brings us to "how can you avoid getting a rejection on your study visa application?". If you’re planning to apply for a Canadian study visa, then there are some common factors to watch out for when making your study visa application. CHOOSING A COURSE/PROGRAM OF STUDY THAT DOES NOT CORRESPOND TO YOUR PRIOR EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE: The program you choose to study in canada has a significant impact on whether or not your study permit application will be approved. If you didn't already know this, you do now. If your study program is not related to your expected career path, prior schooling, or recent job experience, the visa officer may be skeptical that your primary reason for coming to Canada is for education. If your study program isn't a logical next step following your previous schooling, ensure that your statement of purpose clearly explains why you've chosen that program and how it will benefit your career. UNACCOUNTED GAPS IN YOUR EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE: It is critical to maintain consistency in your education and employment background. If you took a year out from school or were unemployed for a while before applying for a study visa, your application may be denied. However, if you have genuine reason(s) for a gap in your academic or professional background, you must explain it in your statement of purpose. FAMILY TIES IN CANADA AND YOUR HOME COUNTRY: Strong family ties in Canada might often work against you when applying for a study permit. This is what I mean… If you have siblings in Canada, mentioning them in your application may pass a wrong signal to the immigration officer to believe that you would not return home on completion of your study. Similarly, if you mention that you don't have any direct family in your home country, the visa officer may believe you don't have a compelling reason to leave Canada after your studies. One way to go around this, is to show stronger ties at home; a job, a personal business, family, landed assets etc. So whether through Study or Express Entry route, you need to know your onions so as to increase your chances of visa approval. But higher percentage of applicants do not know what to do or due to ignorance ignore some vital documents that could boost their chances. Although, most International students are eligible to apply to come to study in Canada with family members (spouses & children). However, there are few things to note to do this successfully. Let it be known that when you applied for admission, you did that for yourself alone, but when applying for visa, you can include your family (spouse and children) for your study visa On that note, your visa application shall then determined by three things: * Purpose of study * Proof of funds * Home ties These three things are the expectations for single applicants as well, but if applying as a family, you have a stronger justification to make. You will need to show additional funds to cater for the family, justify the importance of having family members with you, and have other ties to your country. Purpose of study: In your study plan/letter of explanation, you will need to convincingly explain the reasons you chose to study in Canada and why your spouse & children should accompany you to Canada. Your children can apply for a visitor/study permit (depending on age), and spouse, a visitor/work permit (depending on what they intend to do in Canada) NB: If you are a student going to a school/program that is not eligible for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP), your spouse is not eligible for the spousal open work permit (SOWP). To be more practical, you need to show that you have the value of living expenses for one year (Naira equivalent of CAD$20,365 for you in addition to the cost of your tuition for one year). Let’s say you wish to study for a Masters in Marketing for 2 years, and your tuition is $12,000 per year, you are expected to have the sum of $20,365 living expenses (1year) and $12,000 tuition for one year, a total of CAD$32,365. Home ties Proof of home ties, this is very crucial and an important aspect of the Canadian and UK study visa application owing to the fact that many applicants have been denied based on insufficient proof of home ties, that simply means having sufficient fund is not enough to guarantee your visa approval. It could be your business, investments, employment, financial assets and most importantly landed properties (which are mostly preferred due to the fact that landed properties hardly depreciate in value but appreciate more over time and immune to inflation). Family / What Need To Be Done To Avoid Study Visa Refusal. by sternakin(m): 4:48pm On Feb 27 |
Home ties Proof of home ties, this is very crucial and an important aspect of the Canadian and UK study visa application owing to the fact that many applicants have been denied based on insufficient proof of home ties, that simply means having sufficient fund is not enough to guarantee your visa approval. It could be your business, investments, employment, financial assets and most importantly landed properties (which are mostly preferred due to the fact that landed properties hardly depreciate in value but appreciate more over time and immune to inflation). The report would be a guide to the visa officer to establish the affordability of expenses of visit, stay, study and that the applicant have assets that can be liquidated to raise funds if the need arises. unitedCA:Congratulations on your PPR. Can you please share with us what your approach was with the Visitor Visa, we are just planning to put everything together now just like you did. spousal Sponsorship followed by visitor visa application, was there anything special you did to ensure that the visitor visa was granted or is it safe to say that as a potential PR (spousal Sponsorship in progress) the visitor visa is all but guaranteed ? Hello All, silent observer here. spousal sponsorship application: I initially applied in March 2023 but wifey's application was returned as incomplete. So, I re-submitted May 2023. Timeline: May 16- Application received August 17 - Request for Biometrics Nov 17 - Request for immigration medical exam Nov. 17 - eligibility completed Nov. 18 - Pre-arrival services letter Nov 30 - Medicals completed Feb 07, 2024 - BG verification completed Feb 07 - Copr details generated Feb 12 - PPR mail Worthy of mentioning is that we applied for wifey's visitor's visa mid-way. We applied in July 2023 and visa approved in Aug, 2023. Also, wifey was able to get a job in principle (guys, there's no hack here. just aggressive sending of job applications), while she waited for her ppr. Within the 2months we waited for the PPR mail, we decided to apply for an open spousal work permit. We flagpoled ( bad move. can't flagpole as a PR) and later applied online for an open spousal work permit for wifey. What's interesting is that, the minute the online application for an open work permit was sent, IRCC decided to update the spousal PR application to BG completed, COPR details generation and hence PPR mail. So, safe to say that the independent application prompted the system to do the needful, lol. Rooting for everyone waiting it out for IRCC to do the needful. Cheers! 1 Like |

Go and pay your full tuition fees or risk refusal. Also make your proof of fund a bit above LICO for the size of your family. spousal Open work permit is now a serious matter now with IRCC. Our people have spoilt things. Many students are still owing their respective schools tuition fees after they told IRCC that they had all the funds. They said some student now rely on the work done by their spouse to pay their tuition fees. They said this explains the rush and hurry hurry for SOWP rather than family unification. That's why the opposition Conservative Party is accusing the Liberal Government of bringing in "poor and low class" students to Canada Francesr: 1 Like |

Is the lump sum in your personal account? If yes, I can think of 2 options: 1. Make him a joint account holder and then submit immediately; or 2. Submit the account as is; since it belongs to a spouse. You and your spouse are seen as one and same under the law. It's called "unity of spouse". If the account belongs to a 3rd party, the holder can transfer it to your spouse as a gift and then donate a gift deed. This should be detailed in your SOP. Cheers. Tiwaladeyyy: |
