Dey shud xplore oda avenues to resolve d issue instead of dis biafra biafra shout everyday, because dey are not even committed d 2 struggle... Show me one successful iboman in d north west or in govt dat says anything abt biafra, thus u already hav a divided house on d issue of secession. Ibos shud stop making every oda tribe see dem as noise makers with dis biafra mata cos dey didnt shout dis much wen jona was dere or was d biafran struggle but on hold den. Icecomrade: You check out that kind of excuse nah! Haba!
Check his profile and tell me if Gowon was truely an illeterate. Or people making excuses to justify their heinous acts.
He received his secondary education in Zaria, Nigeria where, in 1953, he obtained the senior Cambridge
school leaving certificate. The following year, he enrolled in the Nigerian Army and was sent to the Regular Officers' Special Training School at Teshie in Ghana. In 1955, he went to Britain for further military training, and was at Eaton Hall, Cheshire, until May, 1955, before entering the RMAS Anzio Company, Sandhurst, where he remained until the end of 1956.
For the first half of 1957, Lt-Col Gowon attended the young officers' course at Hythe and Warminster, England. he was posted as second-lieutenant to the 4th Battalion of the Nigerian Army at Ibadan, then Western Nigeria's capital city.
He attended a course at the Staff College, Camberley, Surrey, in 1962, In 1963 he was promoted lieutenant-colonel and appointed the Adjutant-General of the Nigerian Army. January 15, he was appointed Chief of Staff at Army Headquarters.
I have a feeling that on his return, some group of people twisted his mind.
I don't listen to what people said anymore cos they fed us with lies. Research and you will see their deceptions I never knew his resume was dis strong...... Dat means he was suppose 2 kn wat a confederation meant.... Anyway wat happened had happened, ibos shud let it go or up their political game so as 2 be more relevant in national issues or come 2geda and use legal means 2 pursue d biafran dream(SS xcluded) if dey still want such and stop crying foul at every little opportunity and plss beg ur brodas in NL 2 stop dis biafra biafra infiltration of every thread. Finally dis is d first am having a good conversation without abuses flowing up and down (d usual NL mantra) wen pple have opposite views. Tank U. |

Generalizing Awo's action to all yoruba's is wrong. I totally agree with you on that. I don't advocate for it and won't support such. Most people react that way when there is a direct attack on the igbo's coming the that region.
Let me add that. The coup was avenged by the Northerners. They should ve left it at that. We wouldn't have been having this conversation now.
When the killings ended, the igbo's felt injustice and lack of protection from a government where we preach One Nigeria, they should ve let them go.
If you follow the Aburi peace accord, which is the most annoying, Gowon should have dis associated himself with the resolutions there and then. Why decieve everyone. You need to see the video documentary of of that convention. Go to youtube, you will find that.
This was done in a peaceful atmosphere. They all laughed andd joked in Ghana, shared wine together only to come back renege.
The killings where totally unnecessary. Its heart breaking.
U kn dey said Gowon wasnt educated and didnt realize he had signed 4 a confederation, coming back home he got to realize dis and inturn went against..... On Aburi blame it on Gowon's lack of proper education. |

dearpreye: Conscience is an open wound; only the truth can heal it.
I've solemnly vowed to defend the truth and oppose falsehood and lies all the days of my life.
Godswill Akpabio courageously told the truth and nothing else.
Smarter governments in saner climes would have taken very obvious anand unmistakable steps that would have demonstrated the fact that the war was over and that would have helped rebuilt almost all that was destroyed because a people courgette took their own destiny into their own hands. That war remains one of the most stupid, oppressive and needless war ever fought that I know off.
The Igbos still feel unwelcome and unappreciated by the corrupt Nigerian government. Nothing was more brutal and demeaning than converting all the millions these enterprising people had before the war to £20, and by so doing subjected them to decades of struggling for survival. Unfortunately, what was wickedly devised to subjugate them rather created a sense of innovation and enterprise in them that has helped them till its day. We're told necessity is the mother of invention.
I'm yet to see any tribe in Nigeria that will come out so great and prosperous just a few decades of having more than 2 million of its people murdered for trying to master their own destiny. All those who killed the innocent and defenseless shall only know ignominy, both in this life and in the one to come.
Had Nigeria had sensible government down the years, all these agitation for Biafra would probably not have arisen again, but blacks being blacks, will rather play the ostrich and pretend like nothing is wrong when the opposite is clearly the case. Till date, in our epic primitivity, we are still deliberately doing all that caused the Civil War.
It's my sincere wish that Nigeria will allow good sense to prevail over crudity, intimidation and subtle oppression.
Let's seek sincere efforts to devolve powers to the Federation regions, and practise true federalism. But where the sons of Uthman Dan Fodio will continue to pillage resources found in other regions other than theirs, Nigeria might still fight another civil war- I pray it doesn't happen. D den govt. wasn't really committed 2 d 3Rs bt my point is Ibos shud move on, its almost 50yrs ago. |

Icecomrade: @Emboldened : Are you aware that Ironsi was expected to be a victim in that coup but waded off with military resistance?
Are aware that the Northerners had more victims because they were occupying major political office and not a tribal war against the north.
Are you aware of the electoral violence and rigging that came with the election in March 1965.
Are you also aware that a counter coup by Murtala and Danjuma saw the deaths of Aguiyi Ironsi and other top igbo military officials. Was that not enough revenge from the northerners? Was any civilian involved in all of this?
How then can you justify the killing of over 30,000 Igbo's in the North. How then can you justify subsequent killings in the North, 1991, 1999. Can you see that it's a normal thing for them to do?
You didn't see anything right for the easterners to call for self governance? You try to push blames around.
The blood of the innocents still cry for vengeance. It will be atoned by the blood of the perpetrators. Watch out. The major actors will die a miserable death
Its Am not justifying killings of civilians bt all am saying is dat d ibos brought it upon demselves. Ur claim dat more northerners died because d north had more govt official is a fat lie..... Lets call a shovel a shovel... Premier of d Western region, Akintola was killed, Premier of d Midwest region(2day edo/delta), Okotiebo was killed, u kn 2 well of hw Tefawa and ammadu bello ended up bt d premier of d eastern region, Okparawas spared and Nnamdi our presido was on sick leave wen ur brodas decided 2 tak over.............. I ve read 15 books on Biafra, not written by Igbo, if you got cash, I can give you references.
If don't have cash, go to Google and key in official minutes of meeting Aburi Accord. Am sure your opinion about Ojukwu will change.
Gowon is buried in shame, he can't even justify his actions beyond effort to keep Nigeria as on undivided entity.
Watch documentaries an see the relief on his face when the war ended.
People perish for lack of knowledge
You need to broaden your perceptions. Please quote me again, when you have researched properly
No argument Gowon went against d Aburi Accord bt Igbos can't play d victim cos dey started it all; d tribal coup dey carried out, failure of Ironsi 2 persecute d perpetrators, Ironsi promoting Ibos 2 high ranking positionsin d military, and dat ediot dat sand d hit song "hausa awu mere". If d coup was fair or Ironsi did his job without prejudice, Danjuma and odas wouldn't have 2 retaliate and in turn dere wud hav bin no need to go 2 Aburi 4 settlement |

zendy: I know everything about the 1966 coup and it's aftermath. I'm more concerned about this erroneous impression a lot of people have that it was Ojukwu who started the war. Whoever attacks first is the person who starts a fight. Gowon attacked first. While it can be argued that Gowon had a moral obligation to keep Nigeria one, it doesn't take away the fact that Ojukwu also had an equally moral obligation to protect his people from genocide. Isn't it funny that in the months and weeks leading up to the declaration of Biafra, Ojukwu continually called upon Gowon to marshal troops and end the massacre of thousands easterners all over Nigeria but Gowon did nothing. But when Ojukwu then took matters into his hands, declared Biafra and asked all easterners to return home so he could guarantee their safety in Biafra, that's when Gowon now found soldiers to fight a war. If there was anyone who was responsible for the war, it was Gowon Thank God u re truthful bt remember d killing of ibos followed d counter coup dat brought Gowon to power so he couldn't punish anybody 4 dat. Den ibos blame Awolowo 4 everytin bt fail 2 sing praise to fajuwi(am not sure i got d spelling right) who refuse 2 let dem tak Ironsi bt rada died willingly alongside Ironsi......... Is not hypocritical dat u condemn a tribe because of d action of one of its own bt wouldn't giv credit 2 dat same tribe for d bravery and statesmanship of one of his own. |

Did Ojukwu not go to Ghana to sign an agreement with Gowon? Who broke that agreement? Gowon was 100% responsible for the war and he knows it Ibo tribalism lead 2 d conflict in d first place. Ofcourse Gowon had 2 strike first because he was d one opposing d break out. Pls do well 2 read abt d 1966 coup and its aftermath |

carnegiefan: The last time I checked Nigeria is not fighting a war against a foreign country. Boko Haram for example is a local construct designed by northern interest groups to return power to the north. If the dog no longer listens to his masters whistle calls, the master simply needs to speak to him in the same language they both understand, be it Hausa, Fulfude, or Kanuri. The civilized countries of the world refused (and rightly so) to sell you weapons because they know you will turn it on the people. As for Biafra (which is the real reasons you are really thinking about building weapons locally after foreigners turned you down), all they want is freedom. If you cannot give them freedom, be rest assured that you cannot outproduce them if it ever comes to that. Dialogue saves millions of lives and cash. U see hw igbotic fear is eating igbos up. Bluffly: One way of improving our tertiary education is to allow the Universities dictate their pace, Jamb should not be the one to do that. Admission requirements should be determined by the Universities and advertised on their respective course sections on their sites or whatever means at their disposal, Hence candidates will only write Jamb to meet up the requirements. This would bring about a competition of quality. This is what is obtainable in countries where education works. IMO JAMB shud be cancelled and let every sch dictate its admission process. |

Gurgle: It depends whether that past could affect their future
It would be unfair on him if you withhold info from him that you know will definitely affect him later on
Its difficult but if youre getting married you have to speak up
BUT you have to use your discretion. Some guys may use the info against you later on. So be careful with details and just know the kind of fellow he is
Don't need to go and blurt everything out with no filter; you are still a human being and you don't need to debase yourself for any reason, not even marriage
And you don't need to say anything unless the relationship is serious. Otherwise how many people will you end up telling?
Also you should seek spiritual counsel before all of that to make sure you handle it logically, without getting carried away and the guy shouldn't use it to manipulate you. Maybe seek spiritual counsel afterwards if the info is disturbing him
I would mention something about guys being honest about their pasts too but I know nobody cares so let me go and watch tv Mam u re so on point. If d past wud affect d future I shud be in d kn e. g U lost ur womb via an abortion, u murdered someone and u re on d run or ur ex is a friend i kn and am still friends with etc otherwise i dnt care hw many men u've slept with or hw many successful abortion u ve done...
