Okay, noted and sorry he got you wrong. But , can u pls answer his question: Is everything you have done in this pandemic about staying alive alone? Have you saved money, made plans, try to achieve anything worthwhile?

Also, if you have done any of those things, dont you think it is selfish on your part having the audacity to plan for your life or achieve your goals while people are dying?

#make it make sense
Audacity to plan her OWN life in this pandemic? Smh Dude, don't let this American dream pursuit screw your sense of logic or reasoning. The hospitals out here are getting overwhelmed with COVID cases. Stay safe wherever you are. Yankee is not running away. Only the living can pursue this American dream.
CrimeRe: FBI ‘Kidnapped” Hushpuppi From Dubai - Pissetzky, Lawyer by Sefa2018: 9:58pm On Jul 10, 2020
This Lawyer is a scam.
Let me put up a simple defense here:

The Dubai police could say they were deporting him back to St. Kitts (an American territory which Hush is a citizen of).

From Dubai, you transit through yankee before reaching St. Kitts. He was caught when he landed at his transit point in Chicago.

He is a citizen of 2 countries. He was sent to the one closer to yankee.

This lawyer just wants his share of the fraud money.

What is this one saying?

How relevant is your information about GRE in an era where many schools have waived GRE?

You're clearly out of point sir. Much learning maketh thee mad.
....and in an era where all US embassies are closed? What's the point in you commenting here then.

I will just say this

rewriting a test 2 times is bad, i can tell you categorically, that if you fail a test in the first sitting, in the second sitting you wont score higher mark even if you get 90% of the questions in some exams.

no matter the preparation, as long there is a grading, if you write a test and someone score higher than you, according to the grading system, he is smarter than you.

All test have grading systems and they use the grading systems to judge a student performance in an exam.
Thank you!! Nothing more to add......

You and Sefa2018 have points in your argument. GRE and SAT, basically any standardized exams including WAEC and licensing exam are levelers that must be taken into account. How else can you measure intelligence and performance if you don't do this when considering different people from different backgrounds? The way the GRE is constructed gives an insight into the logical reasoning of the candidates. The exam is one of the greatest consideration for admission officers in the USA! The test always reveals the smartest students. But being smart does not make you change your world. Some very slow-learning people are not able to do well in a test but can engage in breakthrough research. That is why admission committees consider holistic assessment, including past experiences, strong recommendations, and extra-curricular activities, including leadership and services. If you have done something to change lives and organize extramural reading classes to children in your community or have a youtube video to discuss mathematics or your country's economy, you could earn your admission with funding. The University wants to have a diverse class to boast their academic, social, and leadership records, but the test shows the ability to cope with the class rigor.
You have made some good points as well. Also, the hollistic assessment approach depends on your field of study. In medicine, residency programs will trash your application if your don't meet their STEP 1 score cut off even though you might have raised the dead. Lol. They place much emphasis on test scores as a close enough measure of intelligence and aptitude. Same way, top engineering programs won't even review your application without a GRE quant of 155+

It might not be fair but that's the world we in!

You clearly missed the point, but it’s ok. People fail MCAT, LSAT, GRE, board licensing exams all the time. They retake it until they’re deemed qualified to progress, that does not mean they’re not intelligent. And don’t drag Harvard into the conversation; if test score is the key to getting into Harvard; almost everybody will be in Harvard.

I’ll let this rest now. But I hope the people that need to understand my point will read and understand it.

Stay safe!
Stay safe too! Let's survive COVID first lol

I’m not necessarily smarter than you. Your pet could have died a day before the test. If you’re a woman; the test day might be the day you had your worst menstrual cramp. You might even be having a bad day for any reason you can think of; maybe a boil on your left butt cheek.

Point is; a 4hrs exam is not a TRUE test of your intellectual capability.
Go tell that to your LSAT, MCAT, GRE, Dental, nursing or medicine board examiners that you had a worst menstrual cramp or your pet died and they will smile at you lol.. Come on man!! This is real life we talking about. How do you think all those kids get to Harvard and co..no excuses whatsoever. Overcoming adversity and excelling is even a test by itself..

If you read my response clearly, you'd see that the crux of the matter is not the hours spent driving to the test center. And I'm certainly not making excuses for failure, but it's sheer ignorance for anybody to conclude that Nigerians are not intelligent because they don't get 320+ on GRE. It's just a 4 hours exam, it justifies nothing but your ability to master the MATERIAL and apply the rules when taking the exam.
But the ability to master the material thoroughly and apply the rules to any game or exam scenario suggests your intelligence right? It really does. You contradicting yourself here.

Same way we all get tested at all levels of our education so the system can determine who is fit/qualifies for medicine, engineer or not even fit for university.
Standardized exams do test your intelligence....we can't deny that. You all provided with same material to study from..no magic questions from anywhere.

If you earn a 160 on GRE quant and I obtain a 140 score, It's fair to say to you are smarter than me in math. Simple, no excuses.

Test isn’t a TRUE measure of intelligence.

Let me give you an exam; I wrote the GRE twice.

First time; I travelled to Abuja by road, sat for 8hours in a bus and took the test the next day; sitting for another 4hours. I did poorly. That’s not a true test of my ability to ace the test.

Second time; I took it in Lagos, slept well the night before, and did well on the second attempt. Hopefully that gives you an idea of why standardized test is not a TRUE test of intelligence. It’s just a 4hours run, people with long attention span will do well, that doesn’t mean those with short attention span are not smart.
...And u think only Nigerians drive/journey hours to write standardized tests? Its same all over the world. In my field here in the states, you might even need to fly hours to write certain board exams. The GRE is a 4 hour exam, not a big deal. Wait until you write an 8-10 hour exam back to back within 2 days.

Like someone suggested above, time for us Blacks to stop all these excuses and work hard. We can do it!

Pardon my ignorance..new to this thread. With regard to the 28-day rule. Do you have to run the account like US embassy requires or they just require money sitting in account for 28 days regardless of the source. Thanks

I am not collecting any loan. I got a scholarship. A scholarship I mean not a loan.
Also, I had a sponsorship letter from the organisation, I used that to apply for my i20. I just didn't have the bank statement at the time of the interview
So basically the 40,000$ deficit is mostly living expenses. Good luck on your next interview. You will be fine.

riogrannde:
Hello guys..
So a few days back, I posted that I was denied my F-1 student visa this morning at the Abuja consulate.
A recap of my Interview went like this:
VO: can I have your passport and I20
Me: passed it on
VO: why Illinois?
Me: still talking when vo cuts
VO: you're going for your masters in law?
Me: yes
VO: you have a degree in law?
Me: yes I do
VO: are you a practicing lawyer?
Me: yes I am
VO: did you apply to other schools?
Me: yes I did. Was naming them when he cuts me...
VO: this program at Illinois is quite expensive, I see you were given a scholarship. You still will be needing approximately $40,000. Can I see bank statements..
Me: I give him my uncle's bank statement. Also supplements with mine.
VO: what does your uncle do?
Me: he is a contractor, deals in supply and sale of industrial and agricultural equipments/ building materials
VO: cuts in.... does he have children?
Me: yes he does, 3 daughters.
VO: how old are they?
Me: first is 36, second a few years younger, I'm not sure. Last is around my age.
VO: where do they live?
Me: first lives in Sweden, second lives in south africa and the last lives here.
VO: have they ever travelled to the US?
Me: I can't say..
VO: did you pay any money to the school?
Me: no I haven't
VO: ... types for a while, passes my passport and a green sleep. I can't issue you a visa at this time. Try again.

I'm still shocked, I don't know how to feel. I don't feel bad but I don't feel good either.
I have paid another visa fee. Hoping to apply again and secure another date before school resumes in January.

I was admitted into all four schools I applied to.
University of Illinois, university of San Diego, Arizona state university, st. Mary's university.
Illinois gave me $35,000 scholarship, San Diego gave me $10,000 scholarship.
Uncle had a closing balance of almost 10,000,000 and a good cash inflow.
Hoping to get another interview date in two weeks. I need advice guys

I must appreciate everyone that contributed and shared their opinion.
After reflecting, although I wasnt told the reason for the denial, I was able to deduce that the VO was willing to give me the visa but obviously couldn't as the bank statement shown didnt meet up with the remaining funding requirement.. and this was the the reason for my denial. FUNDING!

MY FINDINGS AND NEW CHANGES::
1. I have approached a company willing to offer sponsorship . A sponsorship letter and bank statement to evidence that. Having about N40,000,000 to N50,000,000.
3. Will still carry the old bank statement along with me.
2. I contacted the school and paid a seat deposit and also made application for housing which was accepted. The dean also adviced me to register all my courses before going back for the interview. This is to address the last question raised by the VO.

Now I will appreciate advice from everyone before going back again. I am so scared. School begins in January. I know I may not have time again but I just dont want to rush. I need to know how I can brace myself back up, the best way to put forward this changes to the VO this time in a way that is convincing enough.

Guys please help a brother with suggestions...
Do you have means to pay for the fees if given the visa?, cos it seems you struggling with funds. Trump is not smiling here. You will hate yourself if you fall out of status for non-payment of fees.

Secondly, Law is not that big in the States these days unless u go to the top 10. Many unemployed lawyers in the US now. U can google it.

Back to your question. Coming up with a company account in support of your application within few days does not sound convincing. However, embassy is sometimes/mostly about LUCK so cant advice you shouldnt proceed with it.

[quote author=effyzzy post=83624372]Visa Approved || Passport collected
Venue: Abuja

Very calm place... Didn't have the usual Lagos rush.
Did the usual checks and biometrics.
I was asked to go retake a passport though... they needed something within the last 6 months. (2k just went like that)

Fast forward to my interview.
A woman in her late 40s. Very calm and friendly.

VO: So you're going to the University of New Mexico
ME: Yes, in Albuquerque
VO: How did you find out about the school?
ME: I did an online research using USnews and Princeton Review on schools offering Electrical Engineering with Communications as a Research area and a faculty with a strong Focus in my area of research interest which is 'Cognitive Radios'
VO: Cog what??
ME: Cognitive Radios
VO: what's that? I've never heard of it (laughing)
ME: Explains what 'cognitive radio' is
VO: Your school is expensive
ME: Yes ma, but I got a graduate assistantship position that fully covers my tution, with very generous monthly stipends
VO: Do you have any document from the school that shows this?
ME: Brings out my Admission letter
VO: They wrote here that it's just for one academic year
ME: Yes ma, it's renewable if I maintain a particular GPA level
VO: in case you lose your funding, do you have support from home?
ME: Yes, My cousin offered to support me in such a case
VO: What does he do?
ME: He's the head of blah blah at blah blah
VO: What about your family?
ME: Yes, my family would be supporting me as well
VO: What do they do?
ME: Explains
VO: Okay, (then types for like 30 seconds, the next thing I saw was that cute white paper) ...'I will be approving your VISA' was all I heard
ME: Thank you ma
VO: Hold on... In a case where you lose your source of funding, what will you do?
ME: I will come back to my country immediately
VO: When does your program start?
ME: January
VO: Make sure you don't arrive before Dec... Or you'll be turned back at the POE
ME: Alright ma, thank you
VO: Good. Take this... Do you have cash for your repository fees?
ME: No ma, but I have my card
(I proceeded to the ATM, made a withdrawal and paid)

Grateful for this thread, as it was very helpful in my preparation. Goodluck to everyone and see you in Trumpland.

GOD ALONE BE PRAISED!!![/quote

Congrats. Did u write any exams?

The first goal of every man is to be happy. Forget about societal indoctrination, this man want his family to be happy, and if the family is happy, then, he will also be happy.
