I used to think it was the norm, everyone around me was doing it so I did it too, albeit grudgingly. As funny as this sounds, the BMLS guideline/curriculum adopted by Nigeria was actually developed by contemporaries in the UK the reason why there're no hitches as regards accepting a BMLS degree from Nigeria. If consultants in the UK can/are working with reports from a medical laboratory scientist you're rather insignificant. Your residency training is only useful in Nigeria cos outside Nigeria it's not recognised as such instead of a consultant you start as a senior medical officer.

Joker. I now understand where your problem lies. You are comparing your half-baked qualifications with the lab scientists in the UK. Well till that day when pigs begin to fly and Nigerian surgeons begin to trust and equate the histopath reports of a lab scientist to that of their colleagues who have gone through and survived the rigors,sleepless nights and hardwork of a RESIDENCY training programme, the status quo remains. As i said earlier and reiterate once again, if you dare excise a biopsy from any patient in this country you will go to jail. Those lab scientists that interprete histopathology have to have an advanced diploma, not some fresh out of school B.sc lab scientist with grandiose delusions of his level of competence and proficiency. Except the cyst were in both ovaries(rare) and are both complex cysts (even rarer) he cannot from a diagnosis of ovarian cyst conclude that she can't have children. He possibly wanted to take advantage and make some money off assisted reproduction which is a huge business now.

No medical laboratory scientist will give you a full blood count result in place of a blood film even an intern MLS will give you a comprehensive blood film report (thats what we have been trained to do) except that person is masquerading to be a medical laboratory scientist or a professional quack. Even looking at an fbc result I can tell you what the film is like. Do you know with RBC indices you can give a glimpse what the morphology of a RBC is? Let me leave you to ponder about that.
