fnk:
Hello guys,

My layers started laying in December 2016. I have 3,000 birds but now must sell them off. the residents in my communicate want me to move out of the area. When I bought the land (about 2 acres) the area was bush, but after fencing my land, the Omo-oniles sold off their lands fast, Now I have houses all around me, they have formed a committee. Residence complaining everyday, now they have written letter to us, and copied Alawusa etc. I don't want to have any issues with them so I must sell off my birds ASAP. Please if you are interested let me know. My farm is along Lekki Epe axises.
We are selling them for N1,500 each, you can come and inspect them at the farm.
@Fnk quite sometime.
Sincerely, selling those birds may not be the best option for you at their age. Would the buyer be buying them as spent layers or to continue production in another farm? Considering the % production and age, you may not get a good deal.
What if you arrange a sort of "settlement" with your neighbours? Plead with them to allow you just conclude this batch- about 9months more to go........ Just thinking.

Good day,
Please share information on how much (farm price) eggs are sold in your location.
In my area (Ogijo/Ikorodu axis) it's 800-900/crate depending on size. But I guess with the recent surge in feed prices there is need to adjust our prices.

Farmers, what do you think?

Hello Great Farmers, I have been on holidays for sometime. Our 3,264 POL birds are now reduced to 3,000 birds @35 wks now. Production is barely 70% also. Trying our best to improve production- wld administer vitamins next week.
Please to connect a friend to one of our senior farmers in Abuja. He has interest in poultry farming and I wish we could encourage him. @Jamp et al, please assist.
If you are willing and available, please let's talk on how you connect tprefferably this weekend).
God bless the works of our hands.

pertaining to the issue of pilfering, I think you should start visiting more often to confirm the percentage of your production yourself.
Yes, more frequent bisits but since you dont close with them they can still do and undo.

My plan is to take some days off work and pay a surprise visit- open and close with them. Would do this for two to three consecutive days and see if production is significantly different from what they have been recording.

Please any other advice is welcome.

At segun1976, how are your birds?
@Tunzvic, yhanks so much.
I reported on this forum the issues we had in July. After that was resolved excessive pecking (leading to mortalities) has been our challenge in the past two weeks. From knowledge i have gained now, this may have occured due to the severe reuction in feed (this was supposed to be a solution to the over-weight problem).

We increased the feed back to 105g/bird/day and added salt to their water.

Production has gone down (back to 55% from 65%). Watching to see an improvement with the measures we have taken.

I'm also suspecting pilfering!

It is well.

Sir, I still maintain my point that you don't need to sell the birds especially the Batch B. smone on this thread experienced severe drop in production as a result of administering ivermectin. He was adviced to use vitamins and the birds are bounced back two weeks later.
I thought @Jamp stated that the farms are about 2yrs old. So is it bad if he sells now??

This means average cost of layer feed would be higher than N85/kg in a place like Owo??
