Education / Nollywood Star, Ali Nuhu, Motivates Students At Promasidor’s Career Guidance Ini by semasir: 9:17am On Jul 15, 2019
Star actor and producer, Ali Nuhu Mohammed, has encouraged secondary school students to focus on their future dreams and not be distracted, particularly as they take decision on their career choices.

Nuhu, who featured at the Kaduna edition of Promasidor Harness Your Dream, a corporate social responsibility project of Promasidor Nigeria Limited held recently, told the students at the event to embrace education first before any other pursuit. “Without solid education, you can hardly achieve anything,” he counselled.

He said the students should consider themselves lucky to have an organisation like Promasidor show commitment to youth development through the programme.

“You must understand the importance of education and not allow this opportunity of career guidance to go wasted. When I was like you, I never had the opportunity for career guidance,” he told the students, who became excited as he stepped into the hall.

Nuhu commended Promasidor for the project and said that other corporate organisations should take a cue from the company. “Corporate organisations should emulate programmes like this,” he enjoined.

Nuhu, who holds BA Geography from the University of Jos, said that parents should support their children in the careers they had flair for, explaining that his mother encouraged him and convinced his father when he decided to go into the movie industry.

Earlier, the Kaduna State Government had praised Promasidor Nigeria Limited for conceiving the project and bringing it to the state.

Addressing the students and other stakeholders at Sardauna Memorial College in Kawo New Extension, venue of the event, the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Education, Mrs Kande Nana Bage described Promasidor Harness Your Dream as “an excellent programme.”

From Left: Andrew Enahoro, Head Legal and Corporate Communications, Promasidor Nigeria Limited; with Ali Nuhu, Nollywood Star; Nura Hassan Yaro, Principal of Sardauna Memorial College, Kaduna; and Olaosebikan Sunday, Regional Sales Manager, North-West, Promasidor Nigeria Limited; during the sixth edition of Promasidor Harness Your Dream (PHYD) initiative, a career guidance workshop for secondary school students, held in Kaduna recently.

“I thank Promasidor for choosing Kaduna State to be part of this programme. I feel highly delighted that Kaduna is the sixth state where this initiative is being held,” the Permanent Secretary further said, as she turned her attention to the students: “I encourage you to make good use of this opportunity. If you allow such opportunity to slip off your hand, you may not get it again. Work hard so that you will excel in future,” she further said.

The Permanent Secretary, who led her team from the Ministry and the State Universal Basic Education Commission, urged other corporate organisations to join Promasidor in developing the youth in their education and talent growth.

“Other corporate organisations should follow the example of Promasidor as this kind of initiative will further boost the interest of the students in schooling,” she admonished.

Students of five other schools participated at the workshop. They are: Dalet Girls Secondary School, Kawo; Government Girls Secondary School, Kawo; and Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi Government Secondary School, Hayin-Banki.

In his remarks, Promasidor’s Head of Legal and Corporate Communications, Mr Andrew Enahoro recalled that the career development initiative has been held in five other locations and that other states would soon benefit from the pan-Nigeria project.

From Lagos in November 2017, Promasidor Harness Your Dream has taken place in Ogun, Enugu, Cross River and Kaduna State as well as the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. One edition of the project is held in every school term with professionals from Promasidor sharing hands-on knowledge to guide the students in choosing their future careers.

The facilitators in Kaduna were Abolade Liyide, Olasunbo Amusan, Michael Nwughala and Andrew Enahoro, all staff of Promasidor Nigeria Limited. They made presentations on Personnel Management and Emerging Entrepreneurial Opportunities; Information and Communication Technology; Accounting and Business Management; and Digital Marketing.

Enahoro said that Promasidor Harness Your Dream has provided the company the opportunity to give back under its CSR strategy, which covers mentorship and empowerment.

“We try to let these children know how to make the right career choices as they go on in life. For each of the key subjects being taught at the programme, we bring from our Lagos headquarters professionals to impact hands-on knowledge on the students,” he explained.

The Promasidor spokesman said the initiative focuses on students in Junior Secondary School 3 as it has been designed to aid them to make proper career choices that relate to their talents, attitude and dreams as they prepare to conclude their career focus in the senior classes.

Promasidor has become reputable for promoting youth development in the 26 years of operation in Nigeria through other initiatives that include Cowbellpedia Secondary School Mathematics TV Quiz Show, Loya Milk Swim Meet and Cowbell Chocolate Supa Strikas competition.

Webmasters / Re: My Bitter Experience With A Nairalander Web Designer Bluefly Design. by semasir: 7:46am On Apr 17, 2019
The newbies indeed are mostly disappointing and taking off trust from prospects for people like me who's been here.

Any designer with no website of his own or just one project in the last one year isn't worth it

Julius2214:
These are one of the reasons I can't ever bring my business to nairaland ever again. Potential clients doesn't trust website developers/designers here again. And I don't even blame them... with all these "WordPress installers" calling themselves web designers. Once you know how to install a WordPress theme here on Nairaland, then you are a professional website designer.

I'm not saying professionals are not here, but there are just very very few of them. But the whack-jobs in here are more than 95% compared to those that really know what they're doing. You as a business owner that need a website shouldn't just give up on getting a good website designer. You can totally avoid those nut-jobs. There are some traits you can use to identify them.

1. Most of them are new here. Their accounts are not more than a few months. You'll even save yourself from scam because some of them even created the account mainly for scam. I know we are still talking about unprofessional web designers but some are actually here to scam you of your hard earned money.

When you finally pick anyone, still do your findings before handing the job to them. Search their names on the forum to see if there are any report of scam or if they're really as good as they say they are. You'll surely find out. Nairaland saves everything.

2. A supposed web designer should have a website... An appealing one at that. Before you give your web project to any designer or developer, ask to see his own website. Seeing how good his own website/portfolio is, should already give you an idea of how well he'll be doing your work for you.

I always check the business websites of the web designers here on the webmaster section. I can tell you that most of them are just WordPress themes they downloaded and installed. I even saw up to 3 websites that has exactly the same design, because they downloaded an exact same themes and installed it without any customization. Even the demo content (write-ups) from the demo were all included on the designers' website. (The theme is 'webs' or something like that)

I can boldly say that my personal/portfolio website is unique and you can't find the exact same design anywhere else. And it's not built with WordPress, (used WordPress for the blog-page though) just html, css and js.
I'm not saying that WordPress is not good. CMS are actually very good and I do use WordPress very well... I use Bootstrap Framework too. CMS are even preferable because they save you the stress and makes your work easier. But you should learn to create your own themes to suit your needs.

3. Ask for his past web projects. As a website designer, it's not possible to say you don't have any content in your portfolio. Even if you're just starting out, you should have at least 2 or 3 websites you've worked on by yourself during your learning process. It doesn't necessarily have to be for a client.

So, as a business owner looking to get a website for your business, make sure to look out for these traits in a so called web designer before letting him handle your project.

Sorry your experience... The calls ignored is really baffling. You can try reaching out to your bank or someone there to help you with his address though they'll not disclose without authorisation but report that the payment was made in error and see what can be done.

Portsvessels:
I will be brief as possible.
Have been on nairaland since 2006 thereabout. NL has helped me in lots of ways, gaining admission into UNILAG, helping my business even making my first million. Seun is truly God sent.

Have met quite a number of good guys on NL, my personal doctor, even mechanic, yes mechanic.

Sorry for that intro but been appreciative of this platform.

Fast forward I contacted this Bluefly of a guy after seeing his adverts and his astonishing website, I said to myself Yes this guy must be so good. As an African proverb says, if a person is recommending a cloth you first check the one he is wearing. The guy has a good website ( http://blueflydesign.com.ng/) Alas ! Not all that glitters is gold.

Contacted him 13th March 2019, fast response, good presentation, he seems to know what I want, I told other partners, this guy is our missing link. Fast forward he requested for 100,000 for the brief and 70percent deposit . 70,000 sent 28th of March 2019. Confirmation came in few minutes after payment was sent ( thank God he confirmed). Oya let’s move on to the design, WhatsApp group was set up between our team with him.

Oya designer you’ve not bought domain name....story started... I will buy tomorrow, card rejected.. okay ooo. No wahala

After one week Oga no dey pick call once na after 3 times, he doesn’t respond properly to WhatsApp. Oh he might be so busy with coding so I thought.

Domain later bought 1st of April. Thank God it was still available.

Basic questions that needed to be asked weren’t asked. Payment gateway details (nil) site map(nil) color (nil) even Email and phone Number to be used He was just full of excuses.

Okay after calls and all Oga said we will see a preview of what he has been doing so that we can know he is not joking. Good news. Okay when sir. He said Sunday 14th March 2019 4pm. Na so we all glued to our laptop to see our new baby project. All partners were physically in my house so we can review together. Alas Uncle Excuse came again sorry it will be live around 10pm, everyone left disappointed. At least we confirmed twice before the meeting. I cheered them up 10pm is just around the corner now let’s have group call afterwards now. They all reluctantly accepted. I begged Oga please don’t disappoint me again.

10pm came no show again, everyone started pointing at me, Bluefly no gree pickup. After several attempts Oga dropped message as usual “deepest apologies...bla bla preview can be checked now”. That’s nice my guy all sins are forgiven. Everyone went to check the website, OMG it was CRAP guy only used a dead theme, no professionalism, no work done, nothing.

We’ve been waiting for weeks for only theme demo. My head was off. Was very annoyed.

Oga oya pick calls, called several times no pick up, oh he is busy oya send messages, nooo. He is doing you cannot catch me . Oh I see. Oya where are you let’s have a meeting so that I can know what to tell my other partners. Guy no respond, traced the address on his website at 2, Osho Street OPEBI IKEJA , no one knows him there.

Went on NL only to see someone calling him out that he is a thief bla bla. I felt somehow.

I can share alll details of our chats herein. The guy is quite unprofessional, and the poorest of customer service. He doesn’t feel bothered about anything. He misses your call he doesn’t feel the need to call back at least he has gotten his money.

Sent him a message all I want is a refund .

Religion / Why We Should Not Worship God With Musical Instrument by semasir: 7:23am On Apr 07, 2019
TEXT: 2 Timothy 3:16

INTRODUCTION: Should Christians today use instrumental music in our worship to God? This question has been a wedge of division between religious people. Yet, as controversial as the question is, there are many who think that the discussion is trivial – that it simply doesn’t matter. Should we; shouldn’t we; or does it even matter?

Immediately striking many visitors to the churches of Christ is the absence of any musical instruments. Some have mistakenly supposed that it may by because an individual congregation cannot afford an organ or may be that there is no one who can play. So much of the worship in many churches around us today is geared towards entertainment. Many people think they have worshipped acceptably if they “feel good” by what they do in worship. But Jesus has stated: “for what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God” Luke 16:15, Prov. 14:12.

Many people actually criticize the Lord’s Church for not using musical instruments in our worship but the questions are:
-Does God approve the use of instruments of music in Christian worship?
-Those instruments are popular in churches today; does that mean God is pleased?
- Did Christ anywhere in the Bible command the use of instruments in His worship?
- Did the Apostle use such? Did any of the churches we read about in the New Testament leave us an example of the use mechanical instruments?

God’s word is the final authority in all religious matters (Matt. 28:18, I Cor. 4:6, I Peter 4:11, Jude 3, Rev. 22:18-19)

WHY NOT INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC?
1. New Testament worship is spiritual not physical: What was the distinction Jesus made between the worship of the New covenant and that of the Old (John 4:19-24)?

2. Was one to worship God “with the proper attitude and in the proper way” under the Old Testament law ( 25:2, Deut. 5:32; 6:4-9; 12:32)?

Then what is Jesus contrasting)?

How are the things of the Old Testament Law described ( 8:4-5; 10:1-4, Col. 2:16-17)?
Why did God send the physical types and symbols of the Old Testament first (I Cor. 15:46)?
How do the things of the New Testament Law replace the old ( 5:17-20, John 1:17)?
Are musical instruments part of the shadows and types of the Old Testament, or the spiritual fulfillment of the New ( 2:16-17, Eph. 5:19)

Go Has Not Commanded The Use Of Instruments

In Christian Worship: Since God alone is the object of our worship and is alone worthy to be praise, He should determine what our worship consists of and how and when it should be conducted.

God not man is to be worshipped. God – not man is therefore to be pleased. What pleases man, or what man thinks pleases God may be “abomination in the sight of God (Luke 16:15; Prov. 14:12).

Any act of worship offered to God should be in harmony with the will of God revealed in His Word (John 1:17, 4:24).

“To do what God has not authorized is to assume that God is not capable of knowing what He wants. To something religiously which God has neither commanded nor forbidden is to assume that man is licensed to do anything which God is silent about” – Celine R. Paden

Generic and Specific Commands: There are two kinds of commands given in the Bible: Generic and Specific commands; “music” is a generic term, because there is more than one kind.

If the Lord had commanded “make music” we could comply with the command by vocal, instrumental, or a combination of both. But “singing” is a specific term. Inasmuch as the scripture all point to singing, this restricts the music to vocal – Guy V. Caskey

The Scripture Authorize Singing: All the passages that deal with music in the New testament worship specify singing as the type of music, Matt. 26:30, Acts 16:25, I Cor. 14:15; Eph. 5:19, Col. 3:16, Heb. 2:12; 13;5; in each and every case, the type of music is vocal.

None of these references mentioned the use of instrumental music.

We have authority for vocal music, but we have no authority to offer any other kind music; to offer any kind (like instrumental) music would be “strange or unauthorized” a sinful (Lev. 10:1-2).

We do not have authority to add or take away from the word of God – Deut. 4:2, 2 John 9, Rev. 22:18-19)
