Infact I was shocked when I saw that mostly Igbos were playing the ethnic card irrespective of the fact that this government hasn't done anything major to affect their life and business.

One of my learned friends told me this on sunday evening and i was just confused. Its beyond imagination that there is not other reason to vote for jonathan other than he is from the South South.

Why has the Lagos state Governor refused to sign any C of O especially in the past 4 years for Government Residential Schemes like Magodo Phase I & II, Ogudu GRA, Omole Phase I & II, Abijo GRA, etc considering the importance of C of O to real estate business in Nigeria.

Without C of O, you cannot raise a loan on your property, if you develop the property you cannot sell to anyone who needs to access bank facility. One will expect that the same State Government under Fashola that insists on C of O before you can get any Building Plan approval will expedite the process of getting C of O.

Does this Government not realise that by issuing these C of Os they are directly and indirectly creating jobs for professionals like architects, builders, quantity surveyors, etc and artisans like masons, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, etc.

Its not too late for this Government to revert to the former processes of issuing C of Os and change to Electronic C of Os when they are fully ready for it. Since the advent of the electronic C of O the processes has been grossly inefficient and ridiculously slow despite all the promises of speeding up the processes.

The suit in Benin has already been heard and adjourned to the 9th of March, 2015.

A former branch Manager of ECOBANK Mr. Victor Amushie has sued the bank for a total sum of N1.5 billion naira. The matters are in the Federal high Court of Nigeria in Benin City and the high Court of Enugu State. In Benin, he is suing the bank for N500m for illegal arrest and detention while in Enugu he is suing the bank for N1billion for damaging his banking career of over 16 years.

The bank had without any investigation, or requesting any statements from Victor over a loan duly granted by the bank, brought the police who came in ECOBANK official car with EcoBank’s inscription written on it to the bank in Akpakpara branch in Benin City, arrested him and detained him in a cell at Esigie police Division from the 11th day of August, 2014 to the 13th day of August, 2014 without asking him to make any statement whatsoever or granting him access to his lawyer or family and friends.

The suit further states that on the 13th day of August 2014, ECOBANK brought officers of the EFCC to Esigie Police Division who took the him to EFCC office in Lagos. It was only at the EFCC office in Lagos on the fourth day of his arrest that he was shown a petition written by the bank. The Head, media and Publicity of the EFCC, relying on the false accusation/petition and on false details provided by ECOBANK had published on their website that Victor Amushie had granted loan to himself using several names and accounts to the tune of N81m.

The loans were actually approved and granted following all the due processes of the bank from the Head office of the bank. The petition ECOBANK wrote to EFCC further alleged that Victor was on his way out of the country while he was at work on his desk at the time of his arrest.

He was consequently detained by EFCC of a period of 19 days before being released by EFCC when they had interviewed the customers the loans were actually granted to.

Experimental Ebola Serum Grown in Tobacco Leaves

Aug. 4, 2014 -- ZMapp, the experimental treatment rushed to two Americans infected with Ebola in Africa, is grown in specially modified leaves of tobacco -- a plant better known for harming health than healing.

“We complied with a request from Emory University and Samaritan’s Purse to provide a very limited amount of ZMapp last week,” says David Howard, a spokesman for Reynolds American Services, the parent company of Kentucky BioProcessing. The small biopharma company in Owensboro, KY, has been contracted to grow the drug.

Making the serum is slow, in part, because the plants must be grown for several weeks before they are “infected” with a type of protein. “Basically the plants act like a photocopier of the proteins,” Howard says.

San Diego-based Mapp Biopharmaceutical on Monday identified the drug used to treat two Americans with Ebola as “ZMapp” and said it is working with commercial and government partners to quickly increase production.

“We are in the midst of an intense effort to help address the Ebola outbreak in West Africa,” said Mapp’s president, Larry Zeitlin, in an email message to Times of San Diego.

CNN reported that doses of the drug were flown to Africa last week and apparently saved the lives of two American stricken with the deadly virus.

Mapp said in a statement that ZMapp is composed of three “humanized” monoclonal antibodies manufactured in plants, specifically Nicotiana. It is an optimized cocktail combining the best components from Mapp’s MB-003 and ZMab developed in Canada.

The drug is a collaboration of between Mapp, LeafBio in San Diego, Defyrus in Toronto, the U.S. government and the Public Health Agency of Canada.

“ZMapp was first identified as a drug candidate in January 2014 and has not yet been evaluated for safety in humans. As such, very little of the drug is currently available,” the company noted. “Mapp and its partners are cooperating with appropriate government agencies to increase production as quickly as possible.”
