Quick question. Please if i have a 40Kwh bank. Is 10Kwp a sufficient enough of array for it? Also what capacity should he my inverter, will a 5kw inverter be okay? My avg load is about 4000w and offgrid.
Valto: after battery full, the energy from pv will power house load, so far your house load is not bigger that the available generated energy from pv
since the battery is already full, the inverter takes energy from panels to power house loads.
Thanks sir for your reply. It's clearer now. One more thing. What if my batteries are full and PV is still producing but I don't have enough load to take that power? What happens to that energy?
Sorry, newbie question here. I am still researching and learning. So lets say I have a battery bank of 20KWh and lets say they are already fully charged by 1pm. The remaining energy being generated by the pv, can those be used directly in the house to power stuff like AC and co? If yes, which part of the system does that, is it the inverter? If all that is possible at what point does the energy stored in battery kick in and is it automatic? Like will the inverter detect the the direct energy from panel is no longer enough and auto switch to battery? Sorry I know this are baby questions, just trying to get a full grip on the workings.
EPOMA: You can make this simple , with a 15KWH if you use 1Kiliwatts per hour , that means you will get 15 hours of electricity out of it .
For inverter aircon, they consume on average 500 watts per hour, If you run the 3 aircon , that will be 3 times 500 watts = 1500 watts per hour, soon a 15 kwh battery , you will get 10 hours of electricity.
Are you sure of the Bolded? This is a screnshot of my 1.5HP LG inverter AC. Looks more like it's between 1100 to 1300w.
earthrealm: SINCE YOU PLAN TO BUY most items yourself, why not consider buying the lifepo4 cells from china and have someone build the pack for you for a small fee................or you buy the ready built packs by the guy in jos, his 48v 300ah pack was 1.5m last time i asked.
olopan: I believe the advise of DIY build is a good one, many users here run their system on them
1. The battery is direct from suppliers 2. You can add on it the BMS you like for your max. Power demand 3. You get to shave off extra cash and add to other items
I have chatted with that Jos guy and his 5kwh, 48v 100ah is 500k which is 2m for 20KWh with 2 Years Warranty and he said he is reviewing the price upward very soon. That's about same price for the BSLBATT 20KWh ($3800) with 5 Years warranty. So I am not seeing the cost saving benefit yet, unless I'm missing something. The thing is confusing me more. Lol
All4good: On this you already got some decent advice/calculations from previous contributors. But let me add that you stick to 3-5w bulbs and for TV 25w or less. Also identify the actual wattage of the so called "inverter AC or heater". A heater is usually 1000w or higher, so what is the rating of the solar type. I would generally not use any appliance exceeding 80w on my inverter except when the sun is at its peak and my inverter on bypass . Thanks very much for taking time to reply. @bolded.. really? But even inverter AC I believe is more than that. I am looking at a system on 15 - 20 KWh and the plan is to have at least 2 - 3 1.5HP AC on it.
The flatter the roof the better. A slight 10-20% inclination is desirable depending on your area. However the "hidden" is a disadvantage, as the parapet will cast a shadow most hours of the day except at midday when the sun is directly above. Also your building is skewed facing SW. But you want your Panels facing South for optimal results meaning your panel orientation will be skewed to your building when installed. Lastly if your flat roof slopes to the back of your house, it means the direction of slope of your roof is counter to the desired inclination of your panels. So to install on that roof you need to design a platform for your panels with the desired inclination. Hmm, quite true about the hidden roof. Though my own place is right at the middle of the structure (3rd House) so I am thinking it should have the least shadow impact. I may be wrong though, we will see how that goes.
A heater is usually 1000w or higher, so what is the rating of the solar type. I do not think the Solar Water Heater uses any Power at all. This is why I have decided to go for Solar Water Heater. I believe the water is directly heated from the heat of the Sun and consumes zero electricity. That is my current understanding of it's operation sha.

Thanks very much for your reply. I will reach out to you for further discussion (I am in Abuja though). By the way BSLBATT said they can give me the 20KWh (10KWh x 2 - in parallel) for about $3800. Fair price I think...? I don't think importing panels is worth it though, i have not done my calculations on that well. You mentioned JA.. they good? What do you think about the suggestion someone made on buying cells to assemble. I am particular about the high quality of the entire setup that's why I am skeptical about that.
olopan: The 20 panels is just a start, minimum to charge your batteries alone, considering your loads you will need. More panels. -300W + will be better
If you haven't roof your house yet kindly consider a flat roof this will be better for a solar install.
And plan ahead of time to get your plans scalable and flexible (since your loads, are not properly define yet)
Well the roofing is not in my hands as it's a mini estate where we just buy. Attached is plan and 3D. The second one is mine. They are still at DPC and project should be ready to deliver by March/April next year so I'm trying to plan ahead. Is it possible to deduce how much Panels each tenant's roof can take from the attached plan/3D? Im interested in knowing. It's a flat hidden roof so i think that's good right?
For Load my rough Guess will be 2-3 Interver AC(1.5hp) 2-3 TV 3 standing FANs 1 Water Heater All lightings 1 Fridge 1 Freezer.
My plan is to use appliances that are as low energy consuming as possible and this will be factored in as we do any purchase.
So with all these, do you think a 15KWh - 20KWh LiFePO4 would go a long way? And how much should I budget for? I'd personally like to buy most of the things myself to save cost. I am already in talks with Felicity and BSLBATT. The former is cheaper but I'm concerned about quality as I'm getting divergent views.
earthrealm: 300 WATTS X 12 PIECES IS 3600WATTS, ASSUME 3HRS OF SUNLIGHT EVERYDAY, so you wud be getting approx 10kwh back from the panels.
the big question is your loads, kindly compute your loads , if your daily avg load is more than 8kwh, then you would be better off getting more panels...
is the setup offgrid?..no phcn charging??
The plan is not off grid. Phcn inclusive. But I'm also looking at what I'll require to do off grid. If I'm importing myself from China and I can get let's say 10KWh x2 LiFePO4 (connected in parallel) with let's say 20 Panels. Do you think that can sustain an off grid system efficiently and provide 247 Power? Budget by the way is 2.5m - 3m.
I can't really say what load will be yet as we are not in the house yet but at least 3 inverter AC, refrigerator, all lightings, TV and other basic household things will be on it. What do you guys think?
Hello Guys. I'm kinda new here and I need guidance. I have been researching on solar systems and I will like to know if a system like this will be adequate to serve efficiently a 5 Bedroom Terrace.
51.2V200AH wall mounted type LiFePO4 battery 10KWh Constant 100A discharge current. And how many Solar panels of say 300w will be enough for this? Will 12 Panels be OK?

Please guys, I want to buy either Redmi Note 8 or Note 9 from one of the sellers here but a very vital feature I need is the Call recording feature and I want to know which of them has that feature so I can decide. Or is there something I need to do? My Samsung doesn't do it but someone mentioned that Xiaomi Phones have Call recording.
