sonnie10: Sir, this is what I have observed from reading the responses you have gotten so far. You are doing a total of 289 square meter. Some vendors in here said they would do it for 5500- 6000 (Labour and materials ).
Option A Therefore that would cost either #1.58M (5000x 289) or at (6000 x 289) = #1. 73m
Now option B ( your intended option)
Cement 170 x 6800 = #1.156M Labour. #1200 x 289 = #343,200 Other materials 300k Total #1.8 M {transportation of materials not included) Option A is cheaper is they will deliver without stories. @bolded Are you sure there is any vendor here that can Do 5500 - 6000 (material and labour) here? I haven't seen anyone give me that quote o. Please let me know if that's visible. Also the labour is 1500 per sqm not 1200 |

I was even thinking of buying from a big store and just collect receipt while they keep for me. Once I'm ready in about 2 months time I go and pickup. Planning to do this for tiles too. Reason, 1. Rising cost of dollar will begin to reflect in the market prices soon 2. Make i chuck the small cash I have at hand into something before I spend it. Does this make sense? |

FireTheSun: Waoh! Nice, Professional job you have done up there! I envy this install, just looking at it right now.
Unlike what an Installer on this thread, did to my Roof when l asked that he install just Ten Units of Panels on my Roof. This installer and his Team so damaged my Roof that at the end of the day, l am considering buying NEW Aluminum Steptiles Roofing Sheet to cover the whole area those Panels were installed.
My Roof has never leaked since about Six years l built this particular Storey building, l live in this one so l know it has never experience a leakage but after the installation, it has been multiple leakages here and there. The Team of Installers just use their feet to crush the Aluminium Roofing Sheets, causing big depressions everywhere. I have had Roofers try to plug the leakages created but getting the Depressions to "push back up and normalize" is a daunting task, as the damage was just too extensive. I have concluded l have to replace all those areas where the Panels are located, and their surrounding Sheets as well. Imagine incurring a damage of over #2M, in the course of a job of less than #100,000?
It is a lesson to me, to always check the previous work of an installer, seek reference from previous Clients, before giving out a job Hobbyist or Sellers should stop claiming to be Professional Installers.
BTW: I have since added Five more Panels (655W each), to the other Side of the Building's Roof, done by another Installer and without any issue from that side. Which installer did the bad job o? And/or which one did the better job subsequently |

ceaser: This is a massive stuff. Well done.
Industrial elevators sustain on 380v to 400 vac rather than 240v. I'm thinking to get one installed in my home. Most home elevators I've seen from researches also need up to 380v usually.
I also don't see those things like the fountain take so much power. 60watts 12v DC motor home powers my 3-tier fountain. Three motors are timed to cycle 8hrly daily. The one you have there is a bigger water feature and should not get more than 120 to 150 watts consumption.
Please keep us updated. Ha, Boss na Aso Rock you dey live? |

ceaser: Let me just chip this in. I produce excess solar electricity for the appliances that I have at the moment. So wify just woke up one day and suggested that the excess be channelled into making cold products for outside consumption. Mind you, this street and many adjoining ones have been suffering in the hands of NEPA for ages. Ńa so she rent one shop not far from the building, we come extend armoured cables to the place, purchase freezers, start Ice block, packaged water, soft drinks etc. People travel kilometers to this place just to get chilled products including ice blocks. If you make around 90k profit monthly on iced block alone, calculate how much in a year. Then come add bags of chilled packaged water sold on daily basis.
It's one year now and she has recouped thrice the money she spent in getting two deep freezers and a fridge.
Me I come dey look myself say I no think deep say I fit still make money from my power; all along what I kept thinking about was how to keep increasing my power generation, but ńa wify come think better thing for me. Two correct heads are indeed better than one. That's interesting. I like that. If I end up having excess generation, I'm thinking of channeling it into Crypto mining. I'm sure madam wouldn't mind something like cold drinks and stuff too. What's the total size of your bank and array. |

So I was just thinking randomly about what exactly is the ultimate aim of what we are all trying to achieve with Solar? Is it uninterrupted power supply? Is it cheaper electricity? Is it about the environment? Or other things? And which among these is the most important for most of us here?
Because for example, if it's about saving money, from some rough calculations I have done, it appears off-grid solar is simply the most expensive way to make electricity, No? So does off grid even make any sense? Or is it best to combine grid and solar to create that uninterrupted supply (and cheaper bacause of grid?).
What are your thoughts on these?

FireTheSun: I am not sure of how to respond to this, because l am not an expert on the subject but like you, l asked the same question when l wanted to begin my own RE journey. Let me recount, in details.
The explanation a trusted Senior Bros gave me was: if you are asked to go to a Car Dealership and pick any of two Vehicles on Sale, a Mercedes Benz or a Hyundai, which one will you pick? I did not ley him finish before l responded: Benz-er! He said why would l pick a Benz and not a Hyundai afteral, both of them can take me home or take me anywhere l want to go, both uses fuel and four Tires, he went on and on about their similarities.
I jumped-in and said well, Benz costs more than a Hyundai! He countered again and said: Even that should not be so, afteral, they are both Cars and do the same thing: take occupants from Point A to B.
Being someone who had used a Mercedes Benz 230E V-Boot in the late 90's, l countered back by saying, try to negotiate a bend at very high speed and you will see how the Wheels of a Bens will not just turn (like all other cars do) but also bend sideways, to give you added stability by lowering its centre of gravity (while other Cars will likely summersault as a result), not to mention the internal comforts and German Engineering ruggedness! Motor that just refuse to stop working.
He then told me: The Canadian Solar is like your Mercedes Benz, while the Jinkos and Yinkos are the Hyundai of this world!. Benz might be costlier but you get what you pay for! He added: I work hard for money so l wont just throw it away, if there is no additional value to the extra cost. He has been using his Canadian Solar ever since, long before l bought mine. This story always remind me that "Cheaper" is not always Better but it will do, if availability of funds are a major issue". Thanks for your response, I understand your point. But I have done some research online and from all I could gather, the Jinko Tiger Pro series is actually either at par or even slightly better in performance and quality as Canadian solar. https://lightningsolar.com.au/canadian-vs-jinko-solar-panels/This is one out of many review I saw doing comparisons. Jinko appears to have come a long way. I believe the Tiger Pro series has an efficiency of 21.4% which is great. |

FireTheSun: But you can get Original Canadian Solar Panels from Genex technologies, who are their Main, Authorized Distributor in Nigeria. In total, l have bought over Panels of about 10,000W from them and No issues at all.
I have placed links here, for their Canadian Solar Panels and Inverters (which l also use) so others can benefit but l am wary of the spambot sending me to jail.

sonnie10: The safest and most secured way is to have the items shipped to a trusted Nigerian shipper over there. He will do the quality inspection and then ship them to you in a consolidated container. The advantage is that the shipper can easily return the items for refund if they do not meet agreed specifications and quality. Moreover since those are heavy items, you save on shipping cost from using container instead of air cargo. They would charge per cubic meter of certain weight limit. Yes, I'm well aware of this. I have several shippers in China that I use for other products absolutely not related to building materials. But freight forwarders may either not have the technical knowhow to determine a high quality WC for example from one that's not too good. Or knowing a tap that is suppose to be anti rust from one that isn't. Except they explicitly offer a service like that where someone who has the knowledge on this type of materials can check. I'll still be looking into it sha |

Has anyone attempted to buy house things from Alibaba. Stuff like toilet and kitchen fittings, toilet sit, washing hand basins, etc. Even some electrical fittings... From what I'm seeing, shipping by sea will reduce prices drastically. My fear is determining quality.
