I gave him 1 month, difference between US and Nigerian market will be clear to him and his Naija orientation will change.

Yvete: I had to re-think this whole thing. Admittedly, my conscience won't let me see you in the wrong so I will break it all down for you. See how sweet I am? Sweet as pie!

1. You need to be present in the US at least by January 9 to do this with housing already in place or you may defer till summer '13 preferably . You don't seem ready
2. I explained the transfer process before. Go find it in previous pages, okay?
3. Hope you've already filled and printed the I-20 transfer request form. It should be on the schools' website. Whatever school you choose.
3. The first morning after arrival, contact MSU to inform them of your transfer due to financial difficulties and obtain the Intl Student Advisor report (You may have to go there in person). Find out before leaving Nigeria.
4. That same morning after arrival, take both forms to the CC Intl student's office.
4. The state of TX requires meningitis immunization for Intl Students under 30 before enrollment ($150). Do this the same day.
** Don't bother about Health insurance. Insurance provided by CCs are affordable.
** Don't bother about providing any bank statements because you've got the visa already. Please make arrangement for the tuition that can cover at least 1 year before leaving, just in case.
** If you'd be attending DCC, apply to Richland campus @ Dallas. You could meet Nigerians/other Intl Students that you can share apartment with, and also, commuting by bus is easier. If you choose HCCS, attend the Alief campus too for the same reasons mentioned. You can also choose any CC outside Texas. Accessible bus route and housing is a priority.


Plead with whoever it is to take a day off to help you. Everyone in the US is in a rush and if they're not willing, don't get mad cos' such is life! Hope everything works out for it.

Yvete: I remember explaining the I-20 transfer process you to a while back. Hope you had it noted. If you're unprepared to study soon, stay back and plan properly. You must be present in the US to do all of this.

I don't want to commit to anything that's why I asked you to plan before moving down to anywhere. The bus routes in Houston is a mess plus you need to make adequate arrangements for accomodation before coming. Community colleges have no housing arrangements/dorms. You're 100% responsible for everything outside academics. No one can do that for you, really. Please please choose a city where you know at least one person. Makes things a lot easier... Stay safe!

Yvete: That date is for students seeking visas. Yesterday, I was told that you can enroll until Jan 13 of you've already got a visa. Please apply as a transfer student, not new student. When they ask for SSN, try 000000000. If it doesn't work, change the last 2 digits to a number you can remember. Then write it down for your own record. The person I applied for is still in Nigeria so you can do the same.

Try other CCs in other states too.

Yvete: Did you really look things up? I applied to HCCS for someone yesterday and wonder what confuses you. I didn't pay a cent, took about 5 minutes and printed out the admission letter immediately. There are Community Colleges in the 50 United States. All cheap so it must not be TX. Google CC's in the Sunbelt/Lower United States. Cities in places like Arkansas, Alabama if you wish... Look up Gambling University, LA. Heard its cheap, but I know nothing about their reputation. Do the research yourself.

No scholarships at any CC in the US. Don't be misinformed. These schools are dirt cheap so its expected that you can afford it. Who seeks financial aid to a College that costs less than 3K a semester?

Yvete: Do your research in one day. What city would you prefer? Get info on rent, affordability, costs of living, ..... Check the application deadlines for CC in those States/cities and apply. If you're truly unable to come over, stay back in NIG till you can.

Yvete: Community colleges are still accepting applications for admission. If you cant afford a community college tuition + rent, don't come to the US.

If you can, there's still time to apply, get accepted, transfer I-20 (takes about 2-3 days to process) and VOILA! BUENO!

imperiouxx: Get your Houston admission, get some transferable credits from Phoenix and there you go. Downgrading to community college is possible too, only that the school will convince you and since you know what you want, the door is always open for you. You can as well give phoenix story and defer till fall 2013, stay idle with your cousin while chasing community college admission. When it's time to get the Community college transfer paper, you write phoenix seeking transfer.

Oga Imperiouxx are u saying she can defer her admission till fall, will she not be out of status since she's already in us....because i hav a similar issue, i cant afford the tuition fee for the skool i have on my visa, so i was advice to defer d admission n look for a cheaper skool for fall session. instead of cumin to d us to defer it n be out status n get stranded....pls throw more light to this
