maniebankz:How much is access to the second option? Do you charge per game on the account or a subscription to the games or a bulk one time fee? |
dustmalik:Well I never reached out to support concerning my shipping delay so I didn’t get the free month. I have received the invoice to be billed from next week. Which is fine as my experience (even when it rained) has been largely positive. |
ask4bk:I think they may still have two or three left. I will find out. So I have been building WLAN installations for the last 7 years and I think, if performance is important, a wireless uplink solution is a huge disadvantage. By uplink I mean, imagine your internet connection comes from starlink, that’s your WAN (wide area network). Distributed inside your house is your LAN (Local area network). Now you can handle distribution wirelessly by deploying a WLAN network (wireless LAN). I’m gonna be a bit technical so please bear with me. Your starlink and any dualband router made in the last three years would most likely come with gigabit ports which support network speeds of up to 1000Gbps. So within that network you can do a lot of things apart from using the internet without affecting your internet speed. A typical example is when you do a speed test on starlink, one test measures the speed between the router and the internet . The other measures the speed between your device and the router. Finally you can also test between your device and the internet. Theoretically you would find that your results for the third test is most likely to be affected by the result of the second. The reason is because you can’t access the internet faster than your device’s connection to your uplink (router). And that’s why you want a very good uplink device. Now what about distributing to the rest of the house? Well, if your run a cable from your uplink to another access point/router then you take advantage of the gigabit speeds. So if you test your speed from that device you will get the best speeds because your local connection is way faster than your internet speed. Consider however, if you were using a 300mbs router for example, and your speed is throttling down to that speed despite the fact that your uplink is 1000gbps. A better wifi 6 router/access point connected via cable could give you up to 6gbps wirelessly which is why everyone is asking you to get something better. One last scenario, if your connection to your uplink is wireless however, (wireless extender or wireless mesh) your speeds drop really fast because wifi isn’t as fast a physical connection. In which case, unless you are using really top access points or mesh setups, you’ll basically be experiencing crappy bandwidth on your local network. My fingers hurt. Shey you sha get the jist? |
georgee:So a great wifi connection is important for more than just internet speed. Your wifi is responsible for a lot more than that. I have smart lights, smart speakers, Network assisted storage for streaming movies and document storage and sharing all hooked up at home. That 300mbps bandwidth will disappear very quickly once you’re streaming a 1080p movie wirelessly from your computer to your TV for example. So I think it is a very decent investment. Do you need it NOW? Maybe not. Will you need it in the future? Most likely. |
georgee:Don’t want to get into an argument with anybody. If it’s just ground floor you want to cover while having the Starlink upstairs, get a dual band router. Mesh solutions apart from being more expensive are not one-size-fits-all. Tp-link has dual band wifi 6 routers for less than 100k and you can get them in naija easily. Tp-link AX1500 is a good example |
ask4bk:A store in Abuja was doing clearance sales. 80k. Bought 4 immediately. The other 3 were for the office though. |
georgee:So it’s not dual band but it’ll still work |
georgee:Well if you plug the adapter and run an Ethernet cable to your tp link, you will have two wifi signals. Fun fact: you can name the second wifi signal the same name as the starlink wifi signal and you will have a rudimentary form of a mesh network. (You’ll have to tinker to get the security parameters and channels right for this to work). If you want to bypass the starlink completely, there is a toggle in settings (click advanced settings) and you’ll be able to turn off the starlink router and all it’ll be is a power source for the dishy. All routing functions would be passed on to your router (tp link) EDIT: If the model of your tplink is those n300 routers, be aware that you’ll not have access to the 5ghz band and it’s speeds. So if that’s important, make sure you’re using a dual band router with MU-MIMO functionality. |
georgee:I’m not really sure what “all these” entails sha. It’s a two bedroom flat 2500sqf approx. I’ve got smart speakers littered all over (Amazon echo dots), smart lights and some nest sensors. I needed something that could broadcast across the entire space without the need for a mesh or extender. This Linksys did just that. I love the performance. I can stream games from my PS5 in the living room to my pc in my room lag free. The performance is dope. Oh yeah, I also got the Ethernet adapter. All this won’t happen without it. |
Stanley08:Yeah just one floor. Used to have dead spots in the bathroom inside the master bedroom. The Echo dot there disconnects a lot. Now there is wifi everywhere and all the smart devices are connected |
Stanley08:Finally settled for Linksys MR9600 |
ibawon:Na so the first month dey. By month 3 you go don calm down |
ibawon:You can’t pay without an invoice. I don’t know that they have any offers on the service outside the monthly charge. Makes sense because they can increase the price anytime |
ibawon:Following this gist. Because I suspect dem go soon send me email |
oluwapoju:Already sorted. I used my coordinates. |
ibawon:Omo, na cement I use for my own. I cannot explain anything |
toluxa1:I enabled it for less than 24 hours. I changed my service address in the early hours of this morning and it worked. Turned off portability immediately and sent a message to support that everything was working then closed the ticket. It’s been working fine all day. |
toluxa1:Let me help you because I am nice. You don't need any fancy mesh system. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B092VXR7B5/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_5?smid=A9OG4LL1QK8P1&psc=1 this will work too. Starlink is giving up to 250Mbps. You don't need gigabit speeds on your mesh. |
ibawon:Omo the van that delivered mine had about 20 inside. He said he had already delivered like 15. Make the thing no even too full for my area come be concern. The price increases the more people in an area |
dustmalik:I really don't mind the look as long as the functionality isn't affected. Its gonna be on the roof so I really couldn't be bothered. |
ibawon:E dey increase here too. I have hit 90Mbps in my last test. I will test tomorrow.
|
Ok. This shit is fast. My wife just play come say make I download last of us for her. 5GB in about 10 mins. For me, great buy. 5GB here wasn't even faster than 150mbps so this is even faster. The promise that it would improve in a few hours is even more impressive. No regrets so far. Hoping support fixes my residential location issue fast. |
dustmalik:It did look used. Not brand new. It works though. I’m not sure if someone has used it but the location it marked was almost 60km from where I am. I didn’t pay for portability. In the support ticket I did say I have turned it on pending when the fix the issue |
ibawon:My own is giving location error. On the billing address, my address is correct. On service address it just shows federal capital territory abuja. I tried to change it and kept getting we are at capacity right now. Try again later EDIT I have opened support ticket because it seems this dishy has been setup somewhere in Kuje before because that seems to be where it expects itself to be. I have also enabled portability for now (So that allows me browse for now, until they resolve the matter). My first speed test gave me 31Mbps UP and 6Mbps Down. Expecting it to improve with time. Now I need to figure out how to pass this cable into the house. |
toluxa1:No be me you ask but I go answer anyway. 1. The starlink mesh doesn’t do well vertically. Don’t stress yourself. 2. This one…I will know the answer later today when I install mine. I also have a flat roof. Scared of heights but for starlink…I will brave the trail!!! 3. Yeah, you’ll have to go into the router and click the bypass toggle. You should be aware of the downsides of using a mesh system though. Google will help you with that. But the deco is fairly easy to setup. I’ll try to get you a link. EDIT!! Here you go: CLICK HERE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7X7Q2mMGiS0 4. Yes, that’s the correct adapter |
Uniqueheart:No it’s not the same. It’s a tracking number, different from bala…never mind. Click on the tracking number link in your starlink profile and then it’ll take you to the DHL tracking page. There you willl see the correct tracking number. |
ibawon:How do you check that? |
toluxa1:So they clearly wait until they have a particular number of orders before they ship to Nigeria. We all, who have ordered in the last 5 weeks, got our shipped notification last week. As a business it makes sense to operate that way. Keeps the shipping costs down. As a customer that has to wait for up to 5 weeks to get thier item…that can’t be cool at all. Let’s see sha, plenty people should be giving reviews this week as they get their units. It would be helpful if people who have already set theirs up help us with mounting tips and tricks. Na that one be my new headache. I heard someone used the DSTV mount to do his. I keep imagining one wicked rain will just blow $600 from 2 floors up crashing to the ground thereby creating a gobe, one cannot afford |
Omo!!! E be like say make I scatter office! I don get the alert o. Make I go harrass DHL now. Be like say I go disturb them for customer care sef. Make pesin get 1 month free ontop
|
Stanley08:Noted with thanks. The thing just dey scratch me for brain. I find myself holding back on doing certain things on the internet (movies and games too) because I’m waiting for Starlink. |
ibawon:Starlink don dey behave like Nigerian company o. Which kind behavior be that one again? |
ibawon:See me and who dey wait together. I never get my own alert…why is this happening to me? |
