ProgrammingRe: Vote For Enhanced Vb6 by seunthomas: 11:08am On Jun 29, 2015
OPEYEMIAD:
It is an evolution of VB6 am asking for.
And 'evolution'implies upwards compatibility. Any
VB6 code should be able to be taken forward into
a new product. migrating code from VB6
to VB.Net for a large application is a costly and far
from trivial task. The migration tools I've looked at
have been disappointing. That's why VB is the 7th most popular language and it hasn't had a new release since
1998 whilst VB.Net

I believe in Nairaland for advocacy #giveusenhancedvb6
You would be surprised that with some effort vb6 code can be ported to work with .Net Runtime. I have seen many projects port old languages to the .Net runtime.

OPEYEMIAD:
if you code in VB.net that means you will keep buying a newer version every year.
why should we have to migrate it to a new
language ? The Microsoft Office developers
refused to migrate to .Net (OK they are more
powerful than us mere Microsoft customers).
VB6, by the way, works fine on Windows 7 and
8 (and as it uses the C++ compiler it is very
fast).

#giveusenhancedvb6
.Net is a runtime. You dont need to buy a newer version every year except the runtime has dramatically changed(Happens once in very very many years). Most time the newer runtime is always backward compatible with older versions. Also go and check facts well. I think most microsoft applications today run on the .Net platform.

Chappie:
funxmpp is still xmpp cause it use's xmpp protocol but minified version..
<\x59 \xa5="01234567890@\x91" \xa7="\xa2" \x44="message-1417651059-2" \xa1="14176

FunXMPP is not xmpp just a derivative. XMPP is a specification and funxmpp does not follow that specification.

whatsapp is built using xmpp and use's salt for hash security
Wrong. Whatsapp is built using a derivative of XMPP that does not follow the XMPP specification. Its call FunXMPP. You can google that. But nice try anyway.
@chappie Sorry are you chappie as in the moviehuh? Welcome to Nairaland ohhh. Please dont destroy us ohhhh. How is your artificial intelligence learning coming along.......huh?

I learned c,c++ in school, but java and python on my own. One of these young lecturers that taught me c,c++ and very good in it said I should drop python and start working on Java reason being python is old, which I was against. What do u think?

cc Seun
Python is not old at all. Its a very modern language. Its one of the most versatile languages i know. I can most nearly do the impossible in python and in record time too.

[6/25/2015, 7:46 PM] Mr B: ok
[6/25/2015, 7:46 PM] Mr B: question number 1
[6/25/2015, 7:46 PM] Mr B: what is web or www?
[6/25/2015, 7:46 PM] Mr B: anybody....
[6/25/2015, 7:47 PM]Stud A: Lol..i think web hosting is different from this oh..

[6/25/2015, 7:47 PM] Mr B: ok
[6/25/2015, 7:47 PM] Mr B: the whole idea is someone started this idea of the internet we know today
[6/25/2015, 7:47 PM]Stud B: World wide web
[6/25/2015, 7:48 PM] Mr B: although the internet existed since the early 1960's
[6/25/2015, 7:48 PM] Mr B: it was used mostly my the us military
[6/25/2015, 7:48 PM] Mr B: a group of scientist around the 80's wanted a consistent way of interacting with other research scientist
[6/25/2015, 7:48 PM] Mr B: and they created what we now know as the internet
[6/25/2015, 7:49 PM] Mr B: the idea of the internet is all systems around the world are connected together
[6/25/2015, 7:49 PM]Stud A: Wow..cool invention
[6/25/2015, 7:49 PM]Stud B: 
[6/25/2015, 7:49 PM] Mr B: if u have done your research u may know that html in its early form was created by a man known as Sir Tim Bernees Lee
[6/25/2015, 7:49 PM] Mr B: he is one of my models
[6/25/2015, 7:50 PM]Stud A: So u got models
[6/25/2015, 7:50 PM]Stud A: 
[6/25/2015, 7:50 PM] Mr B: the internet was sought of disorganized and so they needed a consistent way of interacting
[6/25/2015, 7:50 PM] Mr B: i have many models
[6/25/2015, 7:50 PM] Mr B: Steve Jobs is one
[6/25/2015, 7:51 PM]Stud B: 
[6/25/2015, 7:51 PM] Mr B: so we have a background on the internet
[6/25/2015, 7:51 PM]Stud A: Well,you're my model,cos you know a lot.
[6/25/2015, 7:51 PM] Mr B: html is just a layer on top of the larger internet
[6/25/2015, 7:51 PM] Mr B: before html we had many others
[6/25/2015, 7:51 PM] Mr B: but no standard
[6/25/2015, 7:51 PM] Mr B: please note the word
[6/25/2015, 7:51 PM] Mr B: standard
[6/25/2015, 7:52 PM]Stud A: Ok..done
[6/25/2015, 7:52 PM] Mr B: the challenge with us humans is that we all have ideas
[6/25/2015, 7:52 PM] Mr B: the way Stud B will do something is different from the way me or chim will do it
[6/25/2015, 7:52 PM] Mr B: sorry chi
[6/25/2015, 7:52 PM] Mr B: whats short for your name??
[6/25/2015, 7:52 PM] Mr B: so i dont misspell
[6/25/2015, 7:53 PM]Stud B: I think you spelt it right sir.
[6/25/2015, 7:53 PM] Mr B: ok
[6/25/2015, 7:53 PM]Stud A: Yeah you're right..Chi or emmy..any can serve
[6/25/2015, 7:53 PM] Mr B: lets fire on then
[6/25/2015, 7:53 PM] Mr B: so now
[6/25/2015, 7:54 PM] Mr B: back to standard
[6/25/2015, 7:54 PM] Mr B: if everybody was making a phone
[6/25/2015, 7:54 PM] Mr B: and emmy makes a phone and calls TechEmmy
[6/25/2015, 7:54 PM] Mr B: Stud B makes a phone and calls it Stud BPhone
[6/25/2015, 7:54 PM] Mr B: how do all this phones interact together
[6/25/2015, 7:54 PM] Mr B: ??
[6/25/2015, 7:54 PM] Mr B: because everybody use is own idea
[6/25/2015, 7:54 PM]Stud B: Internet
[6/25/2015, 7:55 PM] Mr B: thats why we have Standards
[6/25/2015, 7:55 PM] Mr B: html is a standard
[6/25/2015, 7:55 PM] Mr B: the internet is a standard
[6/25/2015, 7:55 PM] Mr B: a standard is a guideline for doing something or manufacturing something
[6/25/2015, 7:55 PM] Mr B: with standard all of us can make phones and they will somehow work together
[6/25/2015, 7:56 PM] Mr B: bluetooth for example is a standard
[6/25/2015, 7:56 PM] Mr B: thats why samsung can share files with techno
[6/25/2015, 7:56 PM] Mr B: or nokia
[6/25/2015, 7:56 PM]Stud B: And wifi ?
[6/25/2015, 7:56 PM] Mr B: yes
[6/25/2015, 7:56 PM] Mr B: wifi is a standard
[6/25/2015, 7:56 PM] Mr B: and has many smaller standards within it
[6/25/2015, 7:57 PM] Mr B: if u buy a router
[6/25/2015, 7:57 PM] Mr B: u may likely see something like 11n,11b,11g
[6/25/2015, 7:57 PM] Mr B: what its saying is thats the wifi standard 11b
[6/25/2015, 7:57 PM] Mr B: so anyone manufacturing a router with 11n standard they can all work together
[6/25/2015, 7:57 PM] Mr B: perfectly
[6/25/2015, 7:58 PM] Mr B: any questions
[6/25/2015, 7:58 PM]Stud B: Understood sir
[6/25/2015, 7:58 PM] Mr B: so back to html
[6/25/2015, 7:58 PM] Mr B: html is a standard
[6/25/2015, 7:58 PM] Mr B: and there are various html versions
[6/25/2015, 7:58 PM] Mr B: emmy do u know any of the html versions??
[6/25/2015, 7:59 PM]Stud A: Wow..i never knew all this oh..dumb me!
[6/25/2015, 7:59 PM]Stud A: Latest i think is html5
[6/25/2015, 7:59 PM] Mr B: ok
[6/25/2015, 7:59 PM] Mr B: HTML 1.0 | HTML 2.0 | HTML 3.0 | HTML 3.2 | HTML 4.01 | XHTML 1.0 | HTML5
[6/25/2015, 7:59 PM] Mr B: this are all the variants of html
[6/25/2015, 7:59 PM] Mr B: they are related
[6/25/2015, 8:00 PM] Mr B: infact the new ones build on the older ones
[6/25/2015, 8:00 PM]Stud B: Wow
[6/25/2015, 8:00 PM] Mr B: now if u have a browser that supports the html1.0 standard
[6/25/2015, 8:00 PM]Stud A: Cool..
[6/25/2015, 8:00 PM] Mr B: and u create html code in html5 reserved tags
[6/25/2015, 8:00 PM] Mr B: it wont work
[6/25/2015, 8:00 PM] Mr B: it will be garbage in garbage out
[6/25/2015, 8:01 PM]Stud A: Smh..bad!
[6/25/2015, 8:01 PM] Mr B: yes
[6/25/2015, 8:01 PM] Mr B: but the good news is
[6/25/2015, 8:01 PM] Mr B: the new browsers are mostly backward compatible
[6/25/2015, 8:01 PM] Mr B: backward compatible means new browsers supports older html(best effort)
[6/25/2015, 8:02 PM] Mr B: so now what is HTMLhuh
[6/25/2015, 8:02 PM] Mr B: Stud B hope u are not lost??
[6/25/2015, 8:03 PM]Stud A: Hyper text mark-up language
[6/25/2015, 8:03 PM]Stud B: HyperText Markup Language
[6/25/2015, 8:03 PM]Stud B: Am not sir
[6/25/2015, 8:03 PM] Mr B: ok
[6/25/2015, 8:03 PM] Mr B: cool
[6/25/2015, 8:03 PM]Stud A: Stud B is damn sharp! smiley
[6/25/2015, 8:03 PM] Mr B: kk
[6/25/2015, 8:04 PM] Mr B: and we no that html is the programming language for the web??
[6/25/2015, 8:04 PM]Stud B: Emmy
[6/25/2015, 8:04 PM]Stud A: Yeah...
[6/25/2015, 8:05 PM]Stud B: Yes but I thought that there re others like the CSS and boostrap
[6/25/2015, 8:05 PM] Mr B: great
[6/25/2015, 8:05 PM]Stud B: Or re they the same?
[6/25/2015, 8:05 PM] Mr B: now we move forward
[6/25/2015, 8:05 PM] Mr B: next step
[6/25/2015, 8:05 PM] Mr B: html itself is static markup
[6/25/2015, 8:06 PM] Mr B: it means html can only be used for limited set of things like telling the browser how to display what u have coded
[6/25/2015, 8:06 PM] Mr B: so for example
[6/25/2015, 8:06 PM] Mr B: <p>Hello Guys</p>
[6/25/2015, 8:06 PM] Mr B: is a paragraph tag
[6/25/2015, 8:06 PM]Stud A: Hmmn..
[6/25/2015, 8:06 PM] Mr B: <p>Hell Guys</p><p>Hey man</p>
[6/25/2015, 8:07 PM] Mr B: will make the words arrange on different paragraphs
[6/25/2015, 8:07 PM] Mr B: on your own
[6/25/2015, 8:07 PM] Mr B: u will learn most of the tags for html4 and html5
[6/25/2015, 8:07 PM] Mr B: assignment
[6/25/2015, 8:07 PM] Mr B: now asides html we have some subset standards
[6/25/2015, 8:07 PM] Mr B: which include Javascript and CSS
[6/25/2015, 8:08 PM] Mr B: there are others but this are the most popular
[6/25/2015, 8:08 PM] Mr B: css or the cascading stylesheet language
[6/25/2015, 8:08 PM] Mr B: is a way to render(arrange in a beautiful way) your html and text documents
[6/25/2015, 8:09 PM] Mr B: with css u can make your site look pretty cool
[6/25/2015, 8:09 PM]Stud B: Wow
[6/25/2015, 8:09 PM] Mr B: html is kind of a superset of css
[6/25/2015, 8:09 PM] Mr B: it means css is part of html
[6/25/2015, 8:10 PM] Mr B: we also have Javascript which is not part of html standard but belongs to something called the Ecmascript standards
[6/25/2015, 8:10 PM] Mr B: sorry guys am saying this stuff from my head
[6/25/2015, 8:10 PM] Mr B: i may not be 100% accurate always
[6/25/2015, 8:10 PM] Mr B: but at least 95%
[6/25/2015, 8:11 PM] Mr B: ecmascript consists of your actionscript,vbscript,javascript
[6/25/2015, 8:11 PM] Mr B: they are all scripting languages for the web
[6/25/2015, 8:11 PM] Mr B: actionscript is used for flash programming
[6/25/2015, 8:11 PM] Mr B: you know flash??
[6/25/2015, 8:12 PM]Stud A: No..
[6/25/2015, 8:12 PM]Stud B: No
[6/25/2015, 8:12 PM] Mr B: well flash is the nice software u install in your browser that allows u watch video and fancy animation
[6/25/2015, 8:12 PM] Mr B: before html5 there was only flash
[6/25/2015, 8:13 PM]Stud A: Oh..
[6/25/2015, 8:13 PM] Mr B: most of those fancy games and cool animations u watched before are done with flash
[6/25/2015, 8:13 PM]Stud B: Oh I know flash
[6/25/2015, 8:13 PM]Stud B: Like all this ads that appear at the bottom or middle of a website?
[6/25/2015, 8:14 PM] Mr B: yes
[6/25/2015, 8:14 PM]Stud A: Network is slow here...
[6/25/2015, 8:14 PM] Mr B: dont worry we are ending the class for today now
[6/25/2015, 8:14 PM] Mr B: we will continue tommorrow
[6/25/2015, 8:14 PM] Mr B: we may have some new people join us tommorrow
[6/25/2015, 8:14 PM]Stud B: Any assignment??
[6/25/2015, 8:15 PM] Mr B: let me do a quick revision
[6/25/2015, 8:15 PM] Mr B: what is the internet??
[6/25/2015, 8:15 PM] Mr B: and its origin?
[6/25/2015, 8:15 PM]Stud B: Internet is a standard that joins two or more computer together
[6/25/2015, 8:16 PM] Mr B: ok
[6/25/2015, 8:16 PM] Mr B: right and wrong
[6/25/2015, 8:16 PM]Stud B: It originated in the early 1960
[6/25/2015, 8:16 PM] Mr B: u are right in the sense of a novice
[6/25/2015, 8:16 PM] Mr B: but if u are in a tech conference your answer maybe wrong
[6/25/2015, 8:16 PM] Mr B: the idea of the internet is all systems around the world are connected together
[6/25/2015, 8:17 PM] Mr B: now within the internet we have many many standards
[6/25/2015, 8:17 PM] Mr B: like ftp,www,dns,email etc
[6/25/2015, 8:17 PM] Mr B: so if asked what is the internet "Internet is a network of connected computers"
[6/25/2015, 8:17 PM]Stud B: Okay sir
[6/25/2015, 8:17 PM] Mr B: question 2
[6/25/2015, 8:18 PM] Mr B: who is the originator of the web (www) as we know it??

NormalCodes:
Actually u can use python to develop android apps, but the standard language is Java, even Google had to make the necessary change as time went on.

Picking on Java isn't hard, with ur knowledge of Python, its matter of days u are rejoicing ontop java head.
I think this may not always true. I know a lot of programming languages and found Java to be toughest to learn. Took me more than 3 years to understand it well. The challenge with Java was that you had to do things properly. Although Java has gotten better since when i learnt it(JDK1.2) but i think its idea of OOP is a step higher than found in python. Python does not compel you to use OOP concepts although indirectly you are working with OOP, however you cant code Java without OOP. IMPOSSICANT.

This doesn't feel powerful at all. Just another way for a developer to shoot himself in the leg.
Well, its very powerful because it allows for flexibility. Most newer scripting languages implemented this after python. And if am right some of the more powerful languages tried too but because of specification wahala they had to halt it. Note java and the other powerful languages are governed by boards that need to approve features into what we regard as the standardized form of the language.

@omoelu1 Is absolutely correct. Dog.bark = "bark" is a class variable created at runtime. One of the powerful features of python.

jButton1.addActionListener(new ActionListener(){

public void actionPerforned(){

// execute bash script

String command = "chrome http://www.google.com";

new ExecuteShellCommand.executeCommand(command);

Good job this will fail if chrome is not installed on the system(Many new systems dont have chrome).

import java.awt.Desktop;
import java.net.URI;

jButton1.addActionListener(new ActionListener(){

public void actionPerforned(){

// execute bash script

Desktop.getDesktop().browse(new URI("http://www.example.com"));
}

ProgrammingRe: Pls I Need Your Help Concerning My Assignment 2 (database) by seunthomas: 10:23am On Jun 21, 2015
Myhelper123:
Thanks@Seunthamos.....I still have one more sir!

Instead of storing share structure in share
memory, an alternative architecture would be to
store them in a local memory of a special process
and access the store data by inter process
communication with the process, what would be
the draw back of such an architecture?

Pls help me out
I assume what you are describing here is a message queue(non socket based). The advantages of a message queue is that their is very little latency(time to fetch the data over the network) as the application can just request data from the necessary process. However it has significant drawbacks like data corruption(were the data in the storage process is corrupted). Also the architecture needs to be properly done or else there maybe race condition scenerios where multiple processes or threads try to reach the data in the storage process and are blocked. In order to understand what you want better i would need you to describe examples of this application.
