3: Baines is caught late by Valencia on the halfway line and Everton are awarded a free-kick with the chance to loft the ball into the box. They instead opt to play it short and look to build something from the back. 2: Everton just getting a feel for the ball as they knock it about their defence. 1: United get us underway at Old Trafford! |

Aston Villa Vs Manchester City ![]() Date: Sat 4 Oct 2014, Venue: Villa Park Time 5:30PM Match Preview Paul Lambert hopes he will be able to include Christian Benteke in Aston Villa's squad for their Barclays Premier League match with Manchester City. The Belgium forward, who boasts 29 goals from 60 appearances in England's top flight, has not featured for Villa since the end of March due to a torn Achilles tendon. Benteke's injury, which he sustained during a training session, kept him out of the remainder of the 2013/14 campaign, as well as the FIFA World Cup in Brazil where Belgium reached the quarter-finals. However, he returned to action in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League on Monday and found the net in a 3-0 win over Bolton Wanderers, before being withdrawn shortly after the hour mark. Lambert has confirmed that a final check on Benteke's fitness will be made on Friday, while captain Ron Vlaar is a doubt for Saturday's match at Villa Park with a calf problem. "If everything goes okay and he feels okay, then I will put Christian in the squad," Villa's manager said. "He's come through the last few weeks unscathed. We will see how he is but my intention is that he'll be in the squad. "First and foremost, his leg is better - his Achilles is OK. He has no ill effects on it whatsoever. He came through the U21s pretty good and trained for the rest of the week." Villa won last term's corresponding fixture 3-2 with Andreas Weimann scoring the decisive goal, and the Austria forward is hoping for a repeat showing this time around. "That win last season at Villa Park was a fantastic moment in the season," Weimann said. "We were clinical on the day, we took our chances and we were rewarded with a great win. "It was a really good afternoon and it would be great to experience that feeling again." Villa's strong start to the season has been undermined by back-to- back 3-0 defeats against Arsenal and Chelsea in their previous two outings. Defending champions City, meanwhile, have yet to hit the heights of the previous campaign, with midfielder Yaya Toure yet to capture the form of 2013/14 when he scored 20 BPL goals. Captain Vincent Kompany has jumped to the defence of his team- mate, but City will be desperate to get the most out of the Ivory Coast midfielder as they seek to avoid falling too far behind leaders Chelsea. After six matches, City trail Jose Mourinho's men by five points. With Chelsea due to play Arsenal on Sunday, a win over Villa would allow Manuel Pellegrini's side to place a degree of extra pressure on their rivals ahead of the London derby at Stamford Bridge. City, who drew 1-1 with Roma in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, continue to be without Samir Nasri (groin), while Stevan Jovetic (hamstring) and Fernando (groin) remain doubtful. Stats Villa striker Andreas Weimann has made more sprints than any other forward this term (372). |

The Ebola outbreak in Nigeria is almost over, after an ordeal that began in July when a sick man with US-Liberian citizenship flew there from Liberia, US health authorities said Tuesday. The virus's incubation period is 21 days, and after two of these periods have passed without any new cases, officials can declare an outbreak over. Therefore, since there have been no new cases since August 31, the West African nation should be able to announce a formal end to its outbreak on October 12, a spokesman for the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told AFP. Meanwhile, the last three people monitored due to potential exposure to an Ebola patient will end their 21 days of follow-up for signs of symptoms later this week. "The last three patient contacts will exit their 21-day follow-up on October 2 - strongly suggesting the outbreak in Nigeria has been contained," the CDC said in a statement. While Nigeria may be able to declare victory over Ebola, its outbreak was far smaller than in nearby Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia. The death toll from the world's worst Ebola epidemic has claimed 3,091 lives in five West African countries out of 6,574 infected, according to the World Health Organization. The outbreak in Nigeria began July 20 when Patrick Sawyer, a dual US-Liberian citizen, boarded a plane to Lagos, a densely populated city of 21 million people. Ebola is spread through close contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person. The illness causes diarrhea, vomiting, fever and fatal bleeding in some cases. "By the time it was recognized that the patient carried the Ebola virus, he had exposed 72 people on commercial aircraft, at the airport, and at the hospital," the CDC said. Eight people died of Ebola in Nigeria out of 20 confirmed cases, according to the World Health Organization. The Nigerian government has said seven people died and 19 were infected. The US agency credited Nigerian authorities with taking quick actions to isolate patients and set up an incident management center for a coordinated response. "Although Nigeria isn't completely out of the woods, their extensive response to a single case of Ebola shows that control is possible with rapid, focused interventions," said CDC Director Tom Frieden. Speaking last week at the UN General Assembly in New York, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan said - prematurely, according to medical experts - that his nation was free of Ebola. "We can confidently say that today Nigeria is Ebola free," Jonathan told the largest diplomatic gathering in the world on September 24. - AFP source: http://mobile.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.php?c_id=2&objectid=11334725 http://www.upi.com/Health_News/2014/09/30/Ebola-virus-contained-in-Nigeria-and-Senegal/7431412106897/ http://www.latimes.com/science/sciencenow/la-sci-sn-ebola-senegal-nigeria-20140930-story.html#navtype=blogroll |
