Music/RadioRe: The Track Entertainer On D'banjs New Album! by sfinxone(m): 12:31pm On Aug 06, 2008
Haven't listened to the song yet, but it's not only d'banj that has senseless lines in his song. A lot of musicians both foreign and Local sing rubbish and still sell cos they know that the recipe (especially in Naija) for a successful song is mainly getting the beats right. If u get a beat that people can groove to, whether the lyrics don't make sense wont matter.

Though we are beginning to be conscious of the songs content (hence the popularity of Musicians like Asa), songs with senseless lyrics but good beats have and would continue to sell.

I wish Hitv all the best.

soloqy:
@senga

DaarSat is also beginning to sound like hitv.

I have heard Daarsat will be rolling out within the week, from next week and soon a number of times now.

Also they keep saying how good they are going to be, we are waiting to see just how good.

Someone mentioned that the difference in startup dates between hitv and dstv should not be an excuse.

Well, its as good enough excuse as they can get. There is no gainsaying the roll experience plays in this type of business.

You may think you have covered all the angles but you can never gauge your level of readiness until the actual rollout.

That why am waiting to see Daarsat.

I am not a satisfied customer but I still maintain that the age of the business must be put into consideration. Trend started a long time before Hitv(7yrs) and they are not better than hitv in content.

At the rate its going , in three years, hitv would be the best in Nigeria(you can note this down).

To further explain the roll of age and experience in business, you just need to look at what is happening with Visafone and Starcomms now.

Visafone came in with all the noise about the people bankrolling it, Zenith bank and other banks. Based on this, people felt that it would take a long while before there is any issue with visafone(I am one of the early users of visafone EVDO broadband and phone).
But right now, visafone is a mess. Both the phones and internet connection is wack. Their EVDO is just a glorified dial up service. And this is with all their backers and money.

Starcomms on the other hand, keeps powering on. A friend uses starcomms and each time he comes to my place with his laptop, I feel like crying when i see how his internet works while my visafone(which is supposed to be the same capacity) crawls.

I daresay that the difference in the visafone vs starcomms case is experience in the business.

Starcomms have "been there and done that" while visafone(with all their money and poached staff) is just walking this way for the first time.

The same thing can be applied to DSTV/ Hitv.

But hitv's case is not as bad as visafones's case right now believe me.
I agree with some of your points but I still disagree on the experience issue. You gave an example with Starcomms and Visafone to buttress your point. Visafone are failing not because they lack experience but because they probably didn't setup well technically.

My example is that of MTN and Glo. Mtn had prior experience in South Africa (even before GSM was introduced into Nigeria) and they had a head start here as well. You cant honestly tell me from Glo's inception till now (2008) MTN's Service has at any time been better than Glo's.

I like the fact that Hitv has forced DStv to introduce cheaper packages, I aplaud them for winning Numerous football rights and giving us an alternative to DStv who have been milking us. Though I have small reservations cause they are also winning exclusive rights so what stops them from jacking up there prices in future if profits aren't up to per with their expectations? (its funny that Government in trying to break DStv's monopoly created another Monopoly in Hitv).
TV/MoviesRe: Hitv Or Hi Rubbish? by sfinxone(m): 12:26am On Jul 30, 2008
angry It really irritates and annoys me when people use the fact that DSTV has been in existence for over10 years as an excuse for HITV's poor services. When you are going into a business that has other established competitors, you have to look at the competition, learn from their positives and mistakes then come out with a better or at per service.

The fact that DSTV has been operating for over ten years doesn't mean that people have to wait for ten years before enjoying the same quality of service from HITV. Moreover, Toyin Subair was part of the so called "headstart" years DSTV has over HITV.

ComputersRe: Bluetooth Device Driver Does Not Work On My Vista, Anyone With A Clue? by sfinxone(m): 12:40pm On Jul 22, 2008
Try uninstalling it in safe mode: When you turn on your computer, before the windows logo shows press the F8 key, a menu should appear. Choose safe mode and allow it to boot, then try uninstalling it.

Search and download the latest version of Bluesoleil (v.6.6 I think that's latest). It's a software for external bluetooth dongles which includes the drivers for the device. It's fully compatible with Vista cos that's what I'm using.

*the trial version has a 5mb data transfer limit ( If you search hard enough you can get the cracked version wink ).

Hope this helps
ComputersRe: My Laptop Buying Experience by sfinxone(m): 10:16pm On Jul 20, 2008
If you buy a new system (whether desktop or laptop) that comes with any Original Operating System installed it is the full Version (it might require you to register online within certain number of days or else it will deny u access till you do so).

The cost of the OS is bundled with the cost of the system (which is why systems that come without an OS pre-installed are cheaper).

It's the 3rd party (other) software installed e.g Anti-virus software, Media playing software e.t.c. that are usually trial or half featured versions.

hi why are u guys always bring down every good thing trying to up?.soundcity is just a programme, nigezie is a full 24 hours channel.they are working on many projects which u will soon start enjoying.soundcity started before nigezie, but today nigezie is a 24 hours channel, while soundcity is till dreaming and making too many empty noises.
My guy, check the topic of the post before posting your reply. The thread is about which amongst them is more entertaining and I gave my opinion. You on the other hand seize every opportunity you get to advertise for HITV. How does being a tv station make HITV automatically more entertaining?.

From my post you can figure out I wasn't dissing Nigezie cos I said negative things about others too.

You keep saying people don't support HITV. Because they are Nigerian no mean sey make we accept all and every bullshit they throw at us!.

Just my two cents again
TV/MoviesRe: Nigezie,soundcity,primetime Or Hiptv? by sfinxone(m): 8:08am On Jun 23, 2008
My two Cents-

Nigizie: Innovative as the first Nigerian Music Station, but mostly show songs by mediocre (relatively unknown) Nigerian Musicians.

Soundcity: Started well, should have developed into a Music station long ago instead of just a programme. Used to show a lot more Music now seems to be more interested in interviews and events coverage (less music videos)

Hip tv: In my opinion best Programme for the latest news in the Nigerian Music Industry, they show very little Music Videos

Primetime: STOPPED WATCHING YEARS AGO!. Are does Three stooges still fooling their ages and showing mostly songs with a big Kenny's Music logo at the bottom right? wink

urfriend:
well for me soundcity is just noise making.they are a tv programme.nigezie is a full 24hours channel and also a tv programme.expect more great programmes from nigezie.

ComputersRe: Visafone Internet Connection! Any Hope? by sfinxone(m): 1:02am On Jun 23, 2008
holyghost:
My brother to be frank, most major operators like starcomms MTN GLO
Cobranet Swift,  Glilat, IPNX are doing there best at the moment

1 the cause of bandwidth must be paid to their international ISPs
when this bandwidth was paid for must of them do not bargain for additional cost
for power, which you and I know that we are now a Generator driving economy

2. our Government is busy increasing the cost fuel and other multiple tax regime is in place now
(water rate, packing rate tenement rate land owner rate sign post tax. in fact we have sit down look
      Tax, waka pass tax)

3. cost of transport to power/refuel base stations from place to place Man hour lost in traffic logjam

the truth is that NCC knows about this humongous expenses that's why the keep cool on sanctions
that they should apply.

for example most average home  small office users

you paid =N=16,000 for a month internet service + 800 as vat = 16,800

to be honest you Need =N= 25,000 fuel to enjoy this one month
and you must change your Generator Plugs at =N= 300 a month
then engine Oil for =N= 450, depending on capacity and brand of Generotor set in use

rough estimate will being you to =N=50,000 to have a simple Internet service on 2systems per month

now compere yourself with the ISP
that also have to pay staff (from security, cleaners, contract staff to the rest of main staff and managers and directors, don't forget share holders and bribe that is giving to ease some contract and other informal cost of base stations and land rent that goes with it).

how do you compere them with USA, France UK even GHANA AND SOUTH AFRICA has better business atmosphere, must of the ISPs and in fact other coporate organisation in Nigeria has done their best based on our current state of amenities.

our government is the bane for a better life in this County, so face them with the blames.
from Federal to state to local level non has done 20% of their responsibility.

is like blaming a child when his parents are not giving him/her what she need to excel.
that will be humanly unfair, and unacceptable

As I type now some of the are biting their finger as to doing business in Nigeria.
we have the poplation that can make Nigeria Great, But few people in the power house/politic are doing everything to make Nigeria a less great nation.
I agree with you that they (the operators) face difficulties, but that's not an excuse cos all the difficulties you mentioned have been existing before they started business. Lack of Power for example has no link with the kind of bandwidth the ISP's provide.

It all boils down to NCC not doing their job properly. Why should an operator advertise Broadband internet access at up to 3mb/s and give not more than 100kb/s e.t.c

If the cost of doing budiness in Nigeria is High and an ISP can only provide 100kb/s then that is what they should advertise and charge for accordingly.

*It's sad that people that pay for Broadband internet access are getting dial-up grade speed (that is if the connection is even constant) and are happy about it (as many posters have been doing  sad). Still surprised people aren't suing these ISP's asses, oh well, "Only in NIgeria"

ComputersRe: How Do I Connect Two Laptops Together Wirelessly by sfinxone(m): 6:53am On Jun 21, 2008
If Both computers have wireless cards, u can connect both through a peer to peer network. You have to make one of the computers the host, then the other one connects to it. Use the one that has Vista installed on it because the steps involved to make it the host are easier. Go to Help on the start menu and type "wireless network" for info on how to create a peer to peer network.

Hope this helps.

Well done for the info u provided, but dont go aroung telling people stuff you are not sure of (or maybe u dont know or understand what an OS is). Windows Xp and Windows Vista Cannot, and will never be able to be ported to work on a psp.

What you have is a Windows Xp and Vista theme designed for the psp (with stuff like the real OS icons and small stuff like calculator!, if it was a complete OS why Dem no put Microsoft Office inside grin).

TV/MoviesRe: Hitv Wins Uefa Champions League Tv Rights: by sfinxone(m): 11:21am On May 15, 2008
Is it just me or has anyone noticed how Governments are biased towards certain issues. Everyone keeps talking about Monopoly being bad for Business cos the consumer is short-changed. How come that principle doesn't apply to television and other areas. I mean if companies are allowed to bid for and obtain sole rights to certain channels or events, isn't that creating a monopoly?.

Why wont a fixed price be set and any company with the money can pay for the channels or events, wont that be fair practice! Cos that sure as hell is the only way competition will thrive in The DTH market.

If DSTV, HITV, TRENDTV, MYTV all had the same opportunity to get any channel or event on there bouquet, believe me everyone "for dey watch PREMIERSHIP, DISCOVERY, e.tc. cos the price must have gone down by now, "

Wind am well- Ikechukwu featuring Don Jazzy and D'banj

P-Square's Videos from Say your love --- to --- Do me

Kolomental- Faze. I chose this one even though the production quality could have been better, the concept was spot on (The quality improved in the other videos of the other songs on the album).

There are others I enjoy watching, but I believe Storm records, Mo'hits records and P-Square have raised the bar in the quality of Nigerian Music Videos

I agree in totality with you. The Nigerian Police needs serious overhauling, it's like the police force don't know their duty and have relegated themselves to being the lapdogs of the executive. The other agencies are just barking dogs (no bite).

On the Supreme Court judgment, I honestly don't expect the ruling to be contrary to the Appeal court's (they'll probably sight: "In the interest of the Nation"; God, I hate that statement), but Miracles do happen and I hope for Nigeria's sake the right judgment is made.
PoliticsRe: Democracy Is Striving, But Small Thing Still Remain by sfinxone(op): 11:06am On Mar 04, 2008
@ Sky Blue

Sky Blue:
Democracy? In Nigeria? Since when? We can't even conduct something resembling credible elections. I will reserve my verdict till the supreme court rules on the matter. I have said i will try not to discuss this anymore because it is simply frustrating, especially with such overwhelming eveidence. Unfortunately it seems it is business as usual. Out of the few ex-governors EFCC arrested how many of them are in jail today? And yet we have prisons full of people who stole 50naira to feed themselves. What has happened to Ibori's case? Peter Odili's restraining order on the EFCC to not publish their finds on him and to stop them from arresting him has about expired so why is he still a free man? Freedom of Information Bill has not been passed for how long now? Allegations were made about 419ers in the house, it was reffered to ethics commitee, so has it all of a sudden been swept under the carpet? I could go on and on, but these things show that it is business as usula, that means nothing much has changed. Let us wait and see what happens in the supreme court (although that in itself is quite a wait)
My point exactly. That's why I say the judiciary has to start prosecuting the people reponsible. U seem to have lost faith in Nigeria. I'm optimistic because after the 2003 elections, only the Anambra State Governorship elections where nullified (and that was politically doctored to remove Chris Ngige + it took the tribunal 3 years to rule). So in view of that, at least some things have started changing grin
PoliticsDemocracy Is Striving, But Small Thing Still Remain by sfinxone(op): 10:39am On Mar 04, 2008
The new slogan now is democracy is striving in Nigeria. The Judiciary have tried to some extent in their own part, I have only one grouse with them and the general Nigerian mentality of "in the interest of the Nation".

We have had elections nullified on the grounds of exclusion (Kogi, Adamawa), thats all good and fine. What about the people responsible for the exclusion?. The supreme court ruled INEC had no powers to exclude a candidate before the elections but they went ahead and did that (in defiance of a court ruling), shouldn't that be a criminal offense?. If the people responsible for bungling our elections time and again are not prosecuted, what would serve as a deterrent to the next person put in charge of elections?.

Same goes for Public officials who steal Government funds. In the past years many cases of corrupt enrichment have been brought to the limelight and in "the interest of the Nation" the people involved are asked to return the money (or only some of it) and the issue swept under the carpet. In my opinion, stealing is stealing no matter who you are or what your status is in the society, returning the money is not enough. The individuals have to be prosecuted and jail time considered to serve as a deterrent. If I find myself in public office, what would stop me or you from stealing if I know that the highest that can happen if I get caught is to return part of the money?

The Judiciary have done well but I think it's time they step it up and start prosecuting the people responsible for our sorry situation as a Nation.

I suggest you go here: www.apple.com/itunes/download and get the latest itunes software. Install it and hook your ipod to the computer. start itunes and it should give you an option to restore your ipod (requires you to be online). This process wipes everything on the ipod (there is no other solution), it might take some time to finish (depending on the speed of the internet connection).
