Welrez:My brother, one thing I can say about marriages then is that both the man and woman held their values in high esteem, no one was willing to risk a divorce so both practically grew in love. But now, our young men and woman claim "things have changed". |

The 4 possible outcome of every Relationship (the “relationship pathway”). The need for intimacy is one that has been associated with every living creature ranging from animals to human race. Pups bound with their dam through suckling and even cuddling. It’s even extreme in rabbits in that they will reject any kit that has been touched by another “person”. How about humans? Babies suckle for longer times are assumed to be more bonded to their mothers than those that don’t. Life itself is a never ending cycle: people are born, they grow old and die and the cycle continues. Now back to the matter… There is one peculiar feeling lovers have in common; real lovers I mean: the tingles. The feeling that makes you both think nothing else matters but you, when you can barely look elsewhere when you are together, how you can’t keep your hands off each other and if anyone at that time were to tell you both that this feeling won’t last, you wouldn’t believe him. To you both, at that time, you are both living a Cinderella story with the ever happily after endings. The sweet romance goes on until suddenly someone stops doing “something”, love becomes a tradition and the relationship goes “official” and eventually goes boring. It is at that point that the girl wonders what happened to his prince charming and the guy wonders if he didn’t make a mistake about her. This is the stage of the relationship I regard as “hitting the rocks”. To emphasize that, I agree totally with the man that said “love is not meant to be easy but worth it”. And since it is a decision, the parties involved must be ready and willing. So these are my four deductions: So now that the “love ship” has hit the rocks, both parties begin to listen to the third party ( friends, toasters, admirers etc). 1. The girl starts listening to what the toasters are saying. She “suddenly” starts realizing that the boy friend is not doing enough of the complimenting and buying of gifts as anymore, he even “nags” about everything and instead of talking things out with him, she gives the third party a chance and boom! She realizes after the “party” is over that all the dancers have left and the music has long stopped only to realize again the guy had come just for the “cookie box” and since the meal has been served he had to leave. She now feels terrible, the damage is done and things fall apart. 2. The guy lets the show of attention and care the girl friend is showing and her resilience in making sure things work out to get to his head and he interprets it as desperation on her end and sees reason to survey the “open market”. He wrongly applies the 80/20 rule and replaces a diamond with gravel. The cost of running the trash suddenly overwhelms him and suddenly he realizes that he had given up glory for penury but at time, it’s too late to fix it. 3. Both love it each other but taking responsibility seems to be the problem. They are both aware that something is wrong but no one wants to talk about it. Rather they walk around engaging in artificial conversations that don’t get to the heart. Slowing the “vultures” smell dead meat and external calls/texts keep coming in and yet they are “just friends” and when the other starts complaining or demanding for explanations, the quarrels set in and they feel the best thing to do is to end it. 4.Both are passionate lovers who are proud of what they have found. They see each other as a gift they need to guard with all they have got. They take nothing for granted; especially themselves. They are the category that defined every relationship with the opposite sex to avoid the temptation of “going back to Egypt”. Discussions are open, to them it’s okay to read each other’s messages and even take their calls, use each other’s pictures as DPs, hold hands while strolling in the park, and so on. For this category, disagreements/quarrels are probable and when they happen, they are willing to talk it out. This is the category I regard as been friends first and lovers second. They belong to the category that happily ever after lies within their reach. The four illustrations might not have being exhaustive but it’s basically reflects what is obtainable in our society. In any relationship, the value of communication can never be overemphasized. It is when both parties talk about the things bothering them that solutions can be coined out. No one should assume that the other person should understand when nothing has been said. Romance is a beautiful thing. It is good to find someone who you won’t be scared of committing to entirely there by defiling the trend of trust issues and infidelity. Most promising relationships ended because avoidable mistakes were not sorted out, because discussions were not open, and most times when the beans has been spilled, regret sets in but its all lost already. Love is basically a combination and trust and commitment and if these two things are present in any relationship then the people involved will always stay happy no matter the situation. If you are in relationship and you dream tomorrow together, now is the time to make the necessarily adjustments to keep your love alive. It is a give and take affair so no one should be only on the receiving end. We read a lot of love stories with happy ending. We can make our relationships memorable too if you we care enough. Keep your love alive. |

AN OPEN LETTER TO FELLOW COM-PATRIOTS. Dear country men, In addressing this letter, I was contemplating on using “Nigerians” in place of “compatriots” but my moral conviction insisted on compatriots on the singular reason that on the basis of potency compatriot seems to send a deeper meaning that the former. Patriot from which the word Compatriot was coined refers to a passionate lover of his country who is willing to defend it at any cost. I may not have been privileged to travel to other countries of the world (just yet) but the information I have graciously gathered around coupled with the testimonies of many that have been to other lands admit to the fact that my beloved country happens to be one of the most endowed countries in the world. How could I have argued such information when it is evident in our natural and human endowments? Yet, my worry and pain lies not in the fact that my country has tremendous opportunities to thrive on but my pain lingers daily on the fact that in the midst of all these, only a few “privileged” are benefiting from our wealth why the “helpless masses” languish under the grip of poverty of the mind and body. It doesn’t just end there. The trend has been made worse due to the fact that from the beginning of time, we have sectionalized each other and sacrificed our unity on the altar of ethnicity and religion. A country that should be one indivisible entity has been severed invisibly by ethnic and religious beliefs that should have rather united us. My fellow countrymen, we didn’t start this Nation. No. our generation was still in the loins of our father’s fathers when Nigeria came to being. The history of Nigeria has been written up on till today and anything that has made the list cannot be undone but will be remembered for all eternity that this or that happened at one time or the other. For instance, I wasn’t born when the Civil War broke out yet I came to read the history and even watched the horrible clips of how brothers slaughtered each with the help of assault rifles and weapons of war on matters that would have been resolved at a round table. We must realize that we cannot rewrite our history but the lessons therein can be leant and corrections made at the points we failed ourselves. We can choice to right the wrongs of our ancestors rather than fighting over things we do not clearly understand. We can decide to take a common front to defend this supreme entity called Nigeria. Instead of fighting over the wrongs of yesterday, let’s sheath our swords and turn our attention to the things that will rather unite us. I have never wished to belong to another country and even if I did, I cannot walk even for a single mile in a white man’s skin. No! Am a black man and I am proud of who I am. I have witnessed the damage of religious and ethnic intolerance. How it neutralizes trust and replaces it with discord and suspicion. Why must our senses be reduced to that of an animal of survival with only “predatory instincts”? Why can’t we set aside our differences and forge together a prosperous future? Is it too much to ask that a Nigerian man or woman should have good roads to drive on, safe water to drink, constant power supply to run his business and live a good and decent life, reliable security for lives and property and good health facilities to cater for their health needs? Why must we regard those opposing or criticizing us as enemies rather than evaluating the content of their criticism? We have tarried too long and wallowed aimlessly in our mistakes while ignoring the lessons that our history teaches us. I long for a free country. Not the kind of freedom that is explainable by not been behind bars but that which will set me free from the shackles of religion and ethnicity. I want to be able to joyfully converse with my fellow brothers and sisters from other religions without fear of been attacked. I don’t want to be regarded as been Tiv, Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba; I just want to be called a Nigerian. I want a country where if I lost at a job interview then it should be because the next person was better than me, that way, I will happily yield. I want a country that will encourage and sustain my dreams, where the elderly will assist the young to grow rather than retarding their progress. What country would you rather have my dear countrymen? Whatever your response might be, I want us all to be conscious of the fact that the success or failure of our dear Nation will be best portrayed by how we live our lives and how others see us. In conclusion, I wish to point to us a trend where people ignore the lessons of yesterday’s mistakes thinking that it will not happen again only to end up repeating the same mistakes. Think deeply about the heights we would have scaled, the successes we would have celebrated, the joy that would have been evident in our lives if for once we deliberately discarded the shackles of ethnicity and religion and despite our political differences would have united under one platform: “the party of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”. I seek true freedom in my mother land. The one that transcends beyond been free from iron chains but the one that truly exposes me to my best. God bless Nigeria. By Shadrach Akpem |

I have been thinking about this lately. Not all bullet injuries mean the victim is an armed robber. Sometimes he or she might have been attacked or been hit sporadically. But what I hear all the time is if you have a bullet wound without a police report, you won't be treated and I know a lot of people have died due to this "policy". So can some please elighten me on this 'cos in my opinion, I feel the victim should be stabilised before other paper work can be done. |
Kill PDP before it kills all of us, Buhari charges Nigerians on january 30, 2015 at 1:07 am in elections 2015 Facebook Share Twitter Share Simon Ebegbulem, Levinus Nwabughiogu & Gabriel Enogholase BENIN-CITY — PRESIDENTIAL candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari (ret), in Benin City, yesterday, charged Nigerians to constitutionally kill the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, through their votes before it kills Nigerians. His declaration came as Governors Rotimi Amaechi and Adams Oshiomhole of Rivers and Edo states faulted President Goodluck Jonathan for failing the people of the region. They spoke at the Benin City presidential rally of the APC which held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. Some of the dignitaries at the well attended rally were the Vice Presidential Candidate of the party, Professor Yemi Osinbajo; Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi; Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dr. Pius Odubu; former Minister of State for Works, Engr. Chris Ogienwonyi, and all APC candidates in the state. Governor Amaechi said the admission of the President in Port-Harcourt, Wednesday that he had not done anything for the region was an admission of failure that should not be rewarded with another four years. Governor Oshiomhole on his part, blamed the President for failing to tackle corruption, saying the President kept a blind eye to the death of several graduates who were scammed during the Immigration recruitment interviews last year. General Buhari, who lamented that every household in Nigeria suffered alleged PDP misrule in the past 16 years, said Nigerians must ensure that they vote out the PDP on February 14, and defend their votes, asserting that an APC government will find lasting solution to corruption, unemployment, insurgency and poverty, which according to him, were inflicted on Nigerians by the PDP. Amaechi in responding to the claims by the President in PortHarcourt that he had not done anything for the region said: “The President admitted that he has done nothing in South-South in six years. When he could not do anything in six years how will he do anything in four years. I have told Rivers people, Eleme Petro chemical in Rivers State, NAFCON, were done by Hausa-Fulani men. Our president who is our son has spent six years but he did not do anything. “All he has done is to enrich himself and other people and our responsibility is to get a good president who will do something for us and for Nigeria. And we thank God that the President himself has admitted to failure. I call him “I will do President.” We will vote out this “I will do President.” Once trust is betrayed you can never repair it.” Kill PDP before it kills all of us, Buhari charges Nigerians on january 30, 2015 at 1:07 am in elections 2015 Facebook Share Twitter Share Simon Ebegbulem, Levinus Nwabughiogu & Gabriel Enogholase BENIN-CITY — PRESIDENTIAL candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari (ret), in Benin City, yesterday, charged Nigerians to constitutionally kill the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, through their votes before it kills Nigerians.
