Arsenal target Taiwo, Bridge JANUARY 2, 2012 BY AGENCY REPORTER 4 COMMENTS Arsenal are reportedly considering a loan bid for AC Milan defender Taye Taiwo. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is looking sign a left-back on loan before the end of the month as he continues to be without the likes of Thomas Vermaelen, Kieran Gibbs and Andre Santos. And according to the Sunday Mirror, Wenger will look to sign either Taiwo or Manchester City’s out-of-favour full-back Wayne Bridge. Whether the Gunners are able to sign Bridge may depend osn whether City are prepared to let a player join a rival club. Taiwo joined Milan from Marseille just six months ago, but was linked with a move to the Premier League prior to his move last summer, with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United all believed to be showing interest before he decided to move to Italy. Speaking last month, the 26-year-old hinted that he was ready to quit the club after being left on the bench for most of Milan’s games this season. Taiwo told L’Equipe: “I am suffering every day because I don’t get to play football. “I joined this club in order to play, but I have made only six appearances so far. “I don’t understand how things work in Italy. Sometimes I even have to watch from the stands, but I really need to play in order to show what I can do.” |

Nigeria coach Keshi to recall Blackburn striker Yakubu Page last updated at 16:17 GMT, Sunday, 1 January 2012 By Oluwashina Okeleji BBC Sport, Lagos Yakubu scored twice on Saturday as Blackburn beat Manchester United Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi says he will recall Blackburn striker Yakubu Ayegbeni to the Super Eagles squad. The 29-year-old has not been called by Nigeria since his horror miss against South Korea at the 2010 World Cup. But with 12 goals in the Premier League so far this season, Keshi says he is prepared to bring Yakubu back. "I want the best players in my squad and if the fifth top scorer in England is a Nigerian, then I want him as part of my team." Keshi told BBC Sport. YAKUBU: DID YOU KNOW? He used to play barefoot on the streets of Benin, Nigeria, until his brother gave him a pair of boots aged 12 Sir Alex Ferguson once told Harry Redknapp: "If you have a chance, get him. He's electric" He trained at Derby County before moving to the Premier League He joined Middlesbrough from Portsmouth in 2005 for £7.5m His sporting heroes include tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams "Yakubu is in a fantastic form, he is scoring goals and creating them in one of the best leagues in the world. "If people want to live in the past with that one 'miss' at the World Cup, then football and time is the winner - I don't even remember that anymore. "How do you blame a man for one mistake when his past and present record shows he is undoubtedly the best we have at the moment. "If the people in England and Europe respect his performance and we don't - then there is a problem. "Nothing is automatic with me, I will give him a chance to prove he can deliver like he is presently doing at club level and we'll take it from there." Yakubu, 29, signed a three-year deal for Blackburn on transfer deadline day in August, ending a nightmare final three years at Everton. A ruptured Achilles in 2008 put him out of the game for almost a year and he was never able to work his way back into manager David Moyes' plans, ending last season on loan at Leicester. He made an immediate impact at Rovers, scoring twice on his debut in the 4-3 win against Arsenal, Blackburn's first win of the Premier League season. The burly striker scored twice on Saturday as Blackburn stunned title holder Manchester United 3-2 to move from the bottom of the table. I want the best players in my squad and if the fifth top scorer in England is a Nigerian, then I want him as part of my team." Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi Nigeria's first competitive game in 2012 will be a Nations Cup qualifier in Kigali against Rwanda on February The Super Eagles begin their quest for a place at the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa. Meanwhile, a locally-based Super Eagles squad will face 2012 African Cup of Nations bound Angola in a friendly at home on 11 January. According to the spokesman of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ademola Olajire, a venue will be announced soon. Coach Stephen Keshi told BBC Sport: "I want to give a chance to some of the players in the Nigerian league and this is a big chance for them," "I want a blend of foreign and local based players for the new look Super Eagles. Hopefully this will encourage healthy competition. © 2011 The BBC is not responsible for the content of external sites. Read more. |

National President, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor says that the Christmas Day bombing and the series of other attacks in northern Nigeria is a grand design to Islamise the nation. Ayo Oritsejafor, CAN President Responding to the Christmas Day attacks in different parts of the country which left hundreds of worshippers dead, Oritsejafor warned that what is happening in the nation was in fulfilment of the agenda to Islamise Nigeria. According to him, Nigeria must brace up to face the truth that “there is a grand design to islamise the nation, and that is why Christian leaders would soon meet to address the issue frontally once and for all. “Doubting Thomases should go back to history to find out how Egypt, Libya and most of the North African nations became Islamic countries.” The CAN president therefore voted for a sovereign national conference to determine the future of the Nigerian project, saying “I don’t care what name you call it but definitely we cannot continue like this. Every day, I receive calls from pastors who are daily being denied their inalienable rights to worship their God and somebody will pacify me that the Nigerian problem is political and not religious.” Oritsejafor, who was sad over the Christmas carnage said: “I am extremely angry. This is a barbaric and most uncivilised action of human beings in a civilised world. Even animals have respect for each other. It is inhuman. It is barbaric. It is satanic.” “I wonder why certain characters are sponsoring these acts of violence against fellow human beings and go home without any feeling of guilt. I am not talking of people who are hired to carry out the dastardly acts but those who sponsor them. So, these people go home, eat and probably have children who they play with in their homes. “Let us not deceive ourselves, as good as religion is, it can be a terrible thing because it is only religion that can give a man the conviction to do this kind of thing. It is incredible. Christmas is a day when over 80 million Nigerians join billions of fellow Christians across the globe to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Wouldn’t you just respect that? “I don’t think anybody who cannot respect such a sacred date will have any respect for human life. It is totally barbaric and unacceptable. I am short of words to describe how I feel, because I finished the first service in my church and came to the office when I began to receive calls from different parts of the country of the shocking news of the attacks. The cleric said he did not believe that the worsening insecurity situation in the country had ethnic colouration, adding that the reasons behind the attacks go beyond the election of President Goodluck Jonathan from a minority tribe in the country. “When you talk about northern elders not being happy about the election of President Jonathan, what about northern elders who are not Muslims? Are they also sad that Jonathan is president? I don’t think so. There is a section in the North that is not happy and that is where we are not bold enough to face the truth. The truth is that, it is not the North that is not happy; it is a section of the North that is not happy. “It is a segment of northern elders that are not happy with the election of President Jonathan; and some people will now say that I am inciting people; but these are the truths.” Oritsejafor said Christian leaders would soon convene a meeting of all denominational leaders to review the security situation in the country and fashion an appropriate response to the menace of terrorism by the Islamic fundamentalist group known as Boko Haram. He urged Nigerians to be patient and await the outcome of the parley of Christian leaders, which, according to him, will hold very soon, saying that the meeting is expected to address current sectarian violence across the northern part of the country. —Kazeem Ugbodaga |
H$LBroker: pro01:you are silly! there is what is called diplomatic language - GEJ does not have to frown to show that he is serious. When he is meeting a top dignitary, he has to be relaxed and vibrant. That's what diplomacy is all about ![]() |
my prediction for 2012 : 1. the mistake called Nigeria will disintegrate. 2012 will be the beginning of the end - 2. Super Eagles will begin their journey back to international prominence 3. There would be a lot of rioting and social upheavals in the land. Mass protests as a result of oil subsidy removal ![]() |
Theblessed:you are very silly! if anybody is an agent of satan, that person is YOU not the poster. If you were sensible enough to read his post before replying, he said his fiance is aware of his status - and secondly, just because he is hiv posiitive, does that mean he shouldn't be married and should be condemned to a life of loneliness? though you are quoting scriptures, you are more or less a sinner/son of perdition ![]() |
UKAj:brother, you gave more info than was necessary - the bolded part was not necessary for us to know - as for advice, i would advice you to go to the registry - then after your marriage, join another church. Alternatively, join another church that would not ask you for any proof. ![]() |

isale_gan2:your analysis is very wrong. The action of the goalkeeper was initially self defence but it changed from self defence to assault. If you look at the youtube video (which has been posted on this thread), the first kick of the goalkeeper was justified since that was for self defence, so up till 0.14 his action was justified, but from then onwards (moving towards the supporter and kicking him twice) his action becomes an assault. The attacker was already on the floor and a stadium steward was already nearby, getting ready to pin down the attacker, so kicking him another two times was totally unjustified. The referee was RIGHT in my own opinion ![]() |
is it compulsory? where did this tradition originate from? if the world is calling for gender equality why must this be so? doesn't this make a lady look like a "property" of her man? what are your thoughts ? ![]() |

okay, so the man of God slapped the lady right? what's the fuss? let's get some things in perspective 1. Bishop Oyedepo is old enough to be the lady's father, and a father is within his rights to correct his child - Revelations 3:19 2. The girl in question has not come out to complain so what's it will all these emergency "lawyers" and "human right activists?" why have you chosen to mourn the dead more than the bereaved? 3. This incident happened in 2009, (two years ago) so why the sudden fuss? 4. How many of these so called critics accusing the man of God, (hypocrites) can honestly say they were not canned by their parents whilst they were growing up? Some of those now forming 'ajebota' were woken up by koboko every morning - pls give us a break! 5. The bishop made a mistake but the last time i checked, he was human and he still is - he never claimed to be super-human. You are the one's putting the men of God on pedestials and when they fall off the high horse you put them on, you start complaining 6. The girl in question was blaspheming and deserves to be checked - even the bible supports this: 'A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.' - Proverbs 18:6 (KJV) |
