you don't need to be a genius to figure out that the whole scenario has been well scripted - why didn't ndlea challenge the order to produce him in court? bringing him to court was just to save face and give him a leeway to freedom - if he hadn't been a celebrity he might have been released without even needing to appear in court - 9ja! may God help us! ![]() |

dabiri might also be a variation of the yoruba word dabira which mean "perform wonders" or "perform the impossible" - some yoruba words are not easy to explain - for example a word can have more than one meaning - da may mean perform eg. dasha - perform an action, the word biri can mean quickly/swiftly or thoroughly so: da = perform biri = swiftly/thoroughly dabiri can mean "perform swiftly" OR perform thoroughly ![]() |

NDLEA to release Baba Suwe to family, lawyers for independent scan On October 26, 2011 · In News , By ROSEMARY ONUOHA LAGOS—The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Tuesday, said it had informed the family and lawyers of detained ace comedian, Mr. Babatunde Omidina (Baba Suwe), of their readiness to release him to them for an independent scan to bring the matter to a conclusive end. Confirming the development to Vanguard, Airport Commander of the agency, Mr. Hamza Umar, said the agency made this position known to the family members and his lawyers when they visited their office on Monday. He also said they were told to take him to any independent scan examination of their choice under the watchful eyes of the agency, assuring that they were prepared to release the actor should the independent scan say otherwise. However, Vanguard gathered that 72 hours after this assurance was reportedly given, neither the family nor the lawyers had returned to the agency to inform it of their decision. Umar said the agency was ready and anxious to collaborate with the family and lawyers to bring the matter to a close. Baba Suwe, who has been in the custody of NDLEA since October 12, over alleged possession of cocaine, was said to have made a series of excretions but no drug has been found on them. The NDLEA said the actor will continue to be under their observation. Baba Suwe was nabbed aboard an Air France aircraft to Paris at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos, about 10p.m. on Wednesday, October 12 when he allegedly tested positive to drug ingestion and had been placed under observation since then. Baba Suwe had on Monday asked a Federal High Court in Lagos, presided over by Justice Okechukwu Okeke, to vacate an order he gave, which empowered NDLEA to detain him for additional 15 days. The request formed part of a motion on notice he brought, pursuant to Order 26 Rule 11 of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2009. The artiste, while asking for an order of the court discharging or vacating the order issued by Justice Okeke, argued that the application for the order obtained by NDLEA was grossly irregular and constituted an abuse of the processes of the court. In the motion filed by his counsel, Bamidele Aturu, Baba Suwe also argued that the application for the order obtained by the respondent was contrary to public policy and constituted a wanton violation of his fundamental rights. |

here is the latest report on the baba suwe drug saga - this debunks the rumours being peddled on NL NDLEA denies alleged ‘Baba Suwe’ drug links . Monday, 24 October 2011 15:56 Sade Williams .…Says he’s still under observation The National Drug Law Enforcement Aency (NDLEA) on Monday denied rumours that ace actor, Babatunde Omidina, known as Baba Suwe, excreted wraps of cocaine or any other hard drugs under the observation of the Agency’s officials. NDLEA’s spokesman, Mitchell Ofoyeju, told BusinessDay that it was untrue that the actor who had been in detention had on Monday excreted cocaine. According to him, ‘the story is untrue, there is nothing new, he is still under observation”. Sunday evening, it was rumoured and widely reported in some social media that the actor had excreted 16 pellets of cocaine at the NDLEA’s custody. Meanwhile, the NDLEA may have got a Federal High court injunction to detain him for another 15 days after he had spent two weeks in the custody. The Agency may have gone to court over claims and counter claims that the scanning machined used on him was faulty. It was however gathered that the Agency told the court that the scanning machine used on the actor at the Murtala Mohammed International airport was not defective. BusinessDay also gathered that Baba Suwe was taken to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital and the scanning machine allegedly confirmed him positive. Suwe was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on October 12 after going through a body scanner before catching an Air France flight to Paris. His lawyers are also planning to file a N1 billion suit against the NDLEA over his arrest and detention. |
if the moderators of this website want people to take this site seriously, they should do more to vet items been posted on the front page of the site - it is incredulous to note that an item that was posted on a blogging page on the 14th of October found its way to NL front page on the 24th of October - this obviously is stale news which is even untrue ![]() |

GADHAFI: WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT HIM By RUSSELL GOLDMAN, ABC News Saturday October 22, 2011 Photo: The Sun Publishing More Stories on This Section Seven crazy things about ex-Libyan leader Col. Moammar Gadhafi, the dictator who ruled Libya for 42 years, was killed by rebels in his hometown of Sirte on Thursday. A dictator who oppressed his own people and sponsored terrorism abroad, Gadhafi’s legacy will be stained by violence. But beyond his brutality, Gadhafi will be remembered for something else entirely… being a first-class weirdo. In no particular order, ABCNews.com brings you the seven weirdest things about Moammar Gadhafi. 1. The “Bulletproof” Tent: When Gadhafi was at home in Tripoli, he lived in a well-fortified compound with a complex system of escape tunnels. But when he travelled abroad, this “Bedouin” brought a bit of the desert with him, camping out in the world’s capitals. The tent was so heavy it needed to be flown on a separate plane, wherever the dictator travelled. To complete the Arabian Nights theme, Gadhafi often would tether a camel or two outside. 2. All-Female Virgin Bodyguard Retinue: They apparently weren’t around when Gadhafi needed them most on Thursday, but the eccentric dictator was historically protected by 40 well-trained bodyguards – all of them women. The bodyguards, called “Amazons,” were all reportedly virgins who took a vow of chastity upon joining the dictator’s retinue. The women, trained at an all-female military academy, were handpicked by Gadhafi. They wore elaborate uniforms, as well as makeup and high-heeled combat boots. 3. His “Voluptuous” Ukrainian Nurse: For a decade, Galyna Kolotnytska, a Ukrainian nurse often described in the press as “voluptuous,” was regularly seen at the dictator’s side. Kolotnytska was described in a leaked diplomatic cable as one of Gadhafi’s closest aides and was rumoured to have a romantic relationship with him. Several other Ukrainian women served as nurses and they all referred to him as “Papa” or “Daddy.” 4. Crush on Condoleezza Rice: In 2007, Gadhafi called former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice his “darling black African woman” and on a 2008 visit she made to Tripoli, the dictator gave her $200, 000 worth of gifts, including a ring and a lute. But it wasn’t until rebels stormed his Tripoli compound that the depths of the dictator’s infatuation were exposed. There among Gadhafi’s belongings was a carefully composed photo album made up of dozens of images of no one but Rice. 5. Fear of Flying and Elevators: Part of the reason Gadhafi loved travelling with that tent of his was that he was worried about lodging in a hotel where he’d have to ride an elevator. According to leaked diplomatic cables, the Libyan didn’t like heights much either, and would only climb to a height of 35 steps. He, therefore, wasn’t much of a fan of flying, refusing to travel by air for more than eight hours at a time. When he would travel to New York of the U.N.’s annual general assembly, he would spend a night in Portugal on the way to the U.S. |
here is the remainder of the story: The result, according to the affidavit, confirmed that Baba Suwe had a large amount of narcotic drugs in his body. Osifuye averred that, follow-ing Baba Suwe's arrest, he was placed on observation pending when he would defecate the ingested substances, but that while on observation Baba Suwe refused to eat, claiming that he eats only once in three days. He added that as a result of Baba Suwe's refusal to eat, he had not excreted the ingested substances. According to Osifuye, after the comedian made the second excretion and no substance was found, the NDLEA had to take him to LASUTH for another CT scan for a second opinion on whether he indeed ingested the narcotic drugs, and the test confirmed a large amount of drugs in his body. The NDLEA official added that, with the confirmation that Baba Suwe still has hard drugs in his stomach, he is bound to excrete it with time, adding that his case was not an isolated one as it takes some suspects a longer time to excrete than others, hence the need to further keep him in custody. Osifuye, who noted that it would take the comedian about five to seven days to complete excreting the whole drug in his stomach, added that the suspect must be in custody for the agency to retrieve the ingested drugs. Besides, the agency stressed that it would be in the interest of the suspect to excrete the ingested substances so as to prevent them from bursting his abdomen, a situation the agency argued might lead to his death. |
this is my hypothesis: 1. this report is false 2. baba suwe was arrested based on a tip off and not based on a body scan 3. he might not have carried drugs on his body when he travelled but the ndlea are keeping him because they know that his hand ARE NOT CLEAN so they are trying to either (a) punish him before releasing him (b) force him to confess 4. ndlea may appear to be treating him unfairly but they know what they re doing - there is no smoke without fire ![]() |

8 Days After: Actors Want Baba Suwe Freed, Family Hires Aturu Members of Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners, ANTP, led by its former president, Prince Jide Kosoko, have call for the immediate release of star actor, Babatunde Omidina a.k.a. Baba Suwe who is currently being held by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA. Baba Suwe Speaking on behalf of the ANTP today, at a press conference held at LTV 8, Agidingbi premises, Lagos, Kosoko said that “it is surprising and quite unbelievable that after a week in the custody of NDLEA and after excreting about three times without the purported hard drugs found, the authorities of NDLEA have refused to release him.” He said Baba Suwe has been made to go through public humiliation and what has been done to him is unjust punishment for an innocent man. “This has not only brought untold humiliation, bad press and unprecedented public outcry against Baba Suwe, it has even brought our industry and all the theatre practitioners into public odium. Everybody in our industry is now seen as a potential drug pusher.” While calling on the authorities concerned not to play any trick on the detained actor, Kosoko warned that “if nothing drastic is done to ensure his immediate release, we might be forced to go on protest and you know what that means. It might be hijacked by some people and that is problem for the entire nation.” Present at the conference were Gbenga Adewusi a.k.a. Bayowa, Monsuru Obadina a.k.a. Fala, Bukky Wright, Afusat Balogun a.k.a. Madam Saje, Sokoti, Kola Olaiya, Alabi Yellow and others. The head of Public Affairs, NDLEA, Mr. Mitchel Ofoyeju had said in a statement today that Baba Suwe is still under observation in its custody eight days after his arrest. Meanwhile, lawyer to Baba Suwe, Bamidele Aturu, has sent a letter to the Director General of NDLEA over the arrest and detention of Baba Suwe. The letter, a copy of which was made available to P.M.NEWS today reads: Dear Sir, RE: UNLAWFUL ARREST AND DETENTION OF MR BABATUNDE OMIDINA (A.K.A. BABA SUWE) We are solicitors to Mr Babatunde Omidina (a.k.a. Baba Suwe, hereinafter referred to as ‘our client’) on whose behalf and instructions we write this letter. We have been informed by our client’s relations that he was on the 12th of October, 2011 arrested by your officers while trying to board a France Airline aircraft to France on the suspicion that your machines had revealed that he ingested an unknown quantity of illegal narcotic substances. Since then he has been detained in an unknown facility of your organization in inhuman and dehumanizing conditions, ostensibly waiting for him to excrete the allegedly ingested drugs. We were further informed that you have also denied him access to his lawyers and relations. We have been told that after more than three defecations you have been unable to find anything incriminating against him. Yet you continue to detain him. This is truly amazing. As officers of the law it is our bounden duty to inform you in the unlikely event, and as it would appear, that your legal officers have failed to do so, that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended guarantees to every person in Nigeria the right to liberty and that no one may be arrested or detained beyond 24 hours without being charged before a court of competent jurisdiction for a criminal offence known to law. To do otherwise is patently illegal, unlawful, unconstitutional and an affront on the tenets of liberal democracy. In the circumstances, we have our clients’ firm instructions to demand, and we hereby so do, that you cause our client to be released from unlawful detention forthwith and also cause to be written and circulated in conspicuous segments of This Day, The Guardian and The Punch, three newspapers circulating all over Nigeria which have repeatedly carried the allegation that our client ingested illegal narcotic substances an unqualified apology within 7 days of your receiving this letter. In addition we demand that you pay to our client the sum of N1 Billion as compensation for the damage that the arrest and detention have done to his person and reputation. Our client will not fold his arms and allow the tarnishing of his hard earned reputation and image that he has spent decades of excruciating personal struggles to build on the altar of unfounded suspicions. As you may probably be aware, suspicion, however robust, does not amount to proof under our system of administration of justice. TAKE NOTICE that if our client is not released forthwith (that is immediately) and if after the expiration of the stated deadline the compensation has not been paid and the apology has not been published in the manner earlier indicated, we have our client’s firm instruction to institute legal action against you for the unlawful arrest and detention and for the malicious defamation of his character. We have no doubt that a court of law and of equity will most certainly visit the unlawful arrest and detention and the unwarranted imputations against him with heavy and punitive damages. In this era of democracy everyone must justly earn his or her reputation. Our law firm is committed to seeing to that with unwavering commitment and vehemence. The fact that an institution is privileged by law to lead the fight against illegal use and sale of drugs is not a licence for reckless maligning of innocent, reputable, and decent persons. On the contrary, such institutions have the added responsibility to weigh their words and choose their actions lest they injure needlessly and groundlessly the rights and reputation of others which they have built over the years. We have no doubt that you will accede to this very friendly request. TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that there will be no further reference to you on this matter. Accept the renewed assurances of our very high regards. Thank you. Yours faithfully, Bamidele Aturu Esq. —Ayodele Lawal & Simon Ateba |
