THE Abia State Police Command on Friday arrested two suspects in connection with a gang-rape video clip posted on the Internet but released them on Saturday

The video clip showed suspected five students of the Abia State University allegedly gang-raping a female student in a hostel.

Though the two suspects that were arrested by the police were identified as Emeka and Zaki, they were released on Saturday when they denied knowledge of the incident.

Speaking in a telephone interview on Saturday with SUNDAY PUNCH, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bala Hassan, said the command had to release the suspects after interrogating them.

Hassan explained that the police were yet to track down those behind the gang rape of the female student because the information at the disposal of security agents was currently incomplete.

The state police commissioner recalled that two of the five suspected rapists’ names (Emeka and Zaki) were posted on the Internet and added that the absence of the culprits’ surnames was making it difficult to apprehend the perpetrators of the crime.

“They posted about five names on the Internet. Two of the names are Emeka and Zaki. We have arrested two persons with the name Emeka and Zaki, but they denied knowing anything about the rape incident.

“Help me talk to those people posting the names on the Internet to write out the full names. Students bearing Emeka are many in that university.

“When we arrested Emeka, he simply told us that he was not the only person bearing the name in the university. The same thing goes for Zaki. Based on this, we had to release them,” Hassan noted.

He, however, said the manhunt for the culprits had intensified, promising that police would not relent in their effort towards apprehending the criminals.

Before the current move by the security agents, the police had insisted that the rape incident was false, hypothetical and needed no investigation.

Arrests In Nigeria After Gang-violation Posted On Internet

How come we hear this from the foreign news services first?

The Nigerian police have arrested two people in connection with the gang-violation of a woman posted on the internet.
Bala Hassan, the commissioner for police in Abia State, said the two men were detained after cyber activists posted pictures and names online.

The video has shocked Nigeria both for the brutal nature of the violation and the initial failure to investigate.

There had appeared little chance of the five men who taped themselves sexually assaulting a woman being caught.

Despite the video of the violation being widely watched online, officials in Abia State had declared their short investigations over as the victim had not come forward.

What followed was a sustained campaign on social networks to force the police back into action and to uncover clues from the video that might identify the culprits.

On Thursday the Nigerian national assembly called on the police to re-open their investigation.

Three days later, based purely on names and photos posted online, they have made two arrests.

The violation victim also appears to have been located.

A women's rights group has said they are now in touch with her and are trying to get her out of Abia State to where she can receive counselling and medical attention.

This high-profile case has highlighted what campaigners say is the Nigerian police's refusal to take violation seriously as a crime

CrimePastor Arrested While Trying To violate Male Church Member by shadrach77(op): 6:07pm On Sep 23, 2011
Sodomy: Pastor Caught With Male Church Member Inside Hotel Room  The police at Ijesha Police Division in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, have arrested a suspected Same-sex pastor, Prince Egimonele, in a hotel as he attempted to Be Intimate with his male church member.

•Prince Egimonele
The victim, Chidiebere Mozie, a drummer in the pastor’s church, reportedly played along and informed the police of the appointment with the pastor before they went inside the hotel room to Be Intimate. The police laid ambush for the pastor

A police source informed P.M.NEWS that the pastor, Egimonele, the General Overseer of Jesus Intervention Ministry at Ijesha Community Hall, a native of Abia State, Southeast Nigeria, was arrested inside the hotel along Ijesha Road, where he had gone to have fun with Chidiebere Mozie, 23, whom he allegedly lured with N100,000.

However, luck ran out on the pastor when policemen arrested him in the hotel.

Items recovered from the randy clergyman inside the hotel room include a pack of viagra, a drug that boosts male libido, Rough Rider condoms, cream and fruit juice.

After police investigation, the pastor and an accomplice Lawrence were arraigned before a Cele Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on a four-count charge of Being Intimate with a male partner and an attempt to have unlawful carnal knowledge and indecent practice with a male person in a hotel.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, are punishable under Sections 516, 214 and 217 of the Criminal Code.

Section 214 of the Criminal Code Act, Chapter 77, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990 reads:“Any person who has carnal knowledge of any person against the order of nature; or has carnal knowledge of an animal; or permits a male person to have carnal knowledge of him or her against the order of nature is guilty of felony, and is liable to imprisonment for fourteen (14) years.”

Section 217 of the Criminal Code Act reads:“Any male person who, whether in public or private, commits any act of gross indecency with another male person, or procures another male person to commit any act of gross indecency with him, or attempts to procure the commission of any such act by any male person with himself or with another male person, whether in public or private, is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for three years.”

The accused persons pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. D. T. Olatokun, admitted the pastor to bail in the sum of N250,000 and Lawrence, N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

She adjourned the matter till 10 November, 2011 for mention.

The accused were moved to Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Apapa, Lagos, when they could not perfect their bail conditions in good time.

CultureOpc Member Shot Dead As Bullet-proof Charm Fails by shadrach77(op): 6:07pm On Sep 21, 2011
It was a sad end for Yisa Anifowose, the leader of the Odua People’s Congress, OPC, at Shasha, Akowonjo, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, when his friend, John Taju, shot him dead while testing the efficacy of his newly acquired bullet-proof charm.

•The late Anifowose.
The charm could not prevent bullets from penetrating into his body as he reportedly boasted before he was shot.
He slumped and died as a result of the injury he sustained during the shooting.
His corpse has been deposited at Igando General Hospital, P.M.NEWS for autopsy.
The late Anifowose was married and had six children.
Anifowose, 54, popularly called Baba Kazeem, was shot in the chest by his friend and member of OPC, Taju, a one-eyed man. The suspect has been arrested.
The incident happened at the OPC tarmac, Zone 5, Orisumbare, Shasha, Lagos, the family home of the deceased.
P.M.NEWS gathered that Baba Kazeem travelled to his home town in Kwara State and acquired the charm popularly regarded as local bullet-proof.
On returning to Lagos, he was invited by his friends who are members of the OPC, to their base to celebrate his newly acquired power and the purchase of a new car by one of his members.
It was while they were celebrating that Baba Kazeem asked Taju who had a locally-made gun on him to shoot him to test the efficacy of the new charm.
Taju reportedly shot Baba Kazeem and the bullet tore his chest. He died on the spot.
His death threw the residents into confusion and his friends fled the scene.
Some residents of the area quickly locked up their houses and shops and relocated from the area to avoid being arrested by the police.
The matter was reported at the Idimu Police Station. But before the police arrived the scene, Taju had escaped.
Policemen at the station confirmed the story, adding that the suspect was later arrested, interrogated and transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos.
“Investigation is ongoing in the matter,” a source at the station told P.M.NEWS.
When P.M.NEWS visited the residence of the late Baba Kazeem at 12, Ejigbo Road Orisumbare, Shasha, Lagos, his wife, Hafsat Anifowose and her relations gathered in front of the house to mourn the OPC leader.
She lamented the death of her husband and appealed to the police to investigate the incident and bring the culprit to justice. “I cannot just stay and watch my husband killed like a chicken. The government should intervene and arrest those involved in his death,” she cried.
A brother of the deceased, Adedeji Ajanaku, described the deceased as a courageous man. He called on the government to release his corpse to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Following the death of the OPC leader in this circumstance, P.M.NEWS talked to some traditionalists on the efficacy of the so-called bullet-proof charm and whether such exist or it is just in the realm of the imagination of the believers.
Dr. Bunmi Omosehindemi, Chairman, Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board said he has been hearing of the existence of such a charm but quickly added that he has not seen it.
“Some people say it exists but I have not seen it. I am a scientist,” he said.
A traditionalist, Chief Samuel Oluwasola Dedeigbo, however, confirmed that a bullet-proof charm indeed exists, adding that it is not easy to come by.
“Bullet-proof charm exists but it is not easy to come by. On the OPC leader that was killed as a result of using the charm, the one they did for him was fake. He should have tested it first on an animal before asking someone to shoot him,” he stated

RomanceWhy Single Ladies Are Unattached: A Lesson For Spouse-seeking Ladies by shadrach77(op): 3:20pm On Sep 20, 2011
You are not married not because there is no man ready for marriage as a good number of men are looking for life partners. The major reason Nigerian men are now scared of marriage is waywardness. Men are now afraid because they don’t know who to trust and also not sure if that beautiful girl they are interested in still has her womb intact.
They are also afraid because of the high mountain ladies have suddenly placed themselves on as no woman wants to date a poor man any longer but are all interested in those with good cars and houses.

A man recently told me why he does not allow his girlfriends to come to his house. According to him, he doesn’t want a case where a girl enters his house only for her to refuse leaving because of the beauty of the house and cars she will see.Isn’t it surprising how single ladies now out-dress married women with good jobs whose husbands are very rich? You are not married because the single men around you are wondering if they will be able to meet up with your ever-demanding lifestyle. Even when they know they can afford it, what makes them believe you won’t take a walk tomorrow if anything goes wrong?

Another reason is that with your good job and salary, they are even afraid to come near you as they wouldn’t want to be turned down.
I have a female colleague, a very pretty girl who lives in her own house and drives a posh car. She also has different businesses to show for it. Recently, I advised her to calm down a bit as friends I introduce her to who ordinarily would have gone for her, all run away after meeting her and come back to me with the same word, “Amara, this one go send me go village.”

Another reason you are going to grow old in your father’s house is this: You want a ready-made man instead of a growing man with vision. Are you aware that if you have not obtained favour from God, the man will decrease instead of increasing when you enter his house? Work on your character, the words that come from your mouth, your lifestyle, the way you carry yourself, the way you dress, the places you visit and then spend time trying to find favour before God because it’s only favour that can make your husband increase the moment you step into his life.

In fact, the moment a man proposes to you, there must be some positive movements in his finance if at all you have obtained favour.
It is never your duty to find a man. While he is working trying to raise money to sustain whoever he takes home to his mother, you should get yourself busy obtaining favour from God for you to be his source of blessing. A man knows when the wife is a source of blessing and that is the only time he cherishes you.
In the previous paragraph, I said the man should take you home to his mother. I don’t understand why you get married to a man who believes it’s just between the two of you. Read the Bible; they all took their wives home to their mothers. If a man cannot take you home to his people, something is wrong. Isn’t it surprising how many of us are married without knowing our husband’s village and his mother’s bedroom? Marriage, in the African culture, is not between the man and woman alone, the two families must be involved.

Hey, you have to stop moving from one prayer house to the other in search of miracles that are not coming even after you might have emptied your pocket. Go back to your room; deal with your character and bad nature that is filled with pride and disrespect for the elderly. Cut down on frivolities and that is not all, deal with your party and aso ebi spirit. You must also deal with that thing that gets you to aimlessly move from one end of the street to the other all in search of precious souls to destroy. Change that mentality that says you use what you have to get what you want; any man you get with your Bottom is as filthy, unreliable and irresponsible as you are.

Common girl, go deal with yourself first before you start blaming your step mother of being the one keeping you down. Stop blaming your neighbours and friends of standing on your way to progress. I just told you the bitter truth which your Alfa, Babalawo, pastor and Imam may never tell you. Stop wasting your time chasing shadows, go and deal with yourself first before complaining.

I know of a wonderful lady who sings so well that when she comes to lead in worship, miracles take place. People love her, but this lady is unmarried till date. It is not because men don’t go to her for marriage or because she is ugly; her number one obstacle is her character. They say there are many old single ladies in our churches; I think I know the problem and not that most of them wasted their lives in frivolities only to realise the last minute that they have to run into the church where they can get a brother to marry.

I am not trying to judge anyone’s past, but the issue is that even when they join those churches, their characters don’t change. It’s really appalling how some ladies talk to men simply because they are in the same church. Some of them fight everyone in their department in church while some live their lives begging from one member to the other.
What do have to say about ladies who fight for food during church meetings? Those guys would be foolish to see the stuff you are made of and still go ahead to take you home to mama.

I always tell ladies that if by the age of 30 no man had asked to know if you are for sale, there is something wrong somewhere; its either spiritual or attitudinal, but the truth is that it is always more attitudinal than spiritual.
You have been fasting and praying and going for all levels of deliverance but it seems nothing is working. What is your character like after all the prayers and religious devotions? It is sad when I see a single girl walk up to a married woman sitting with her husband and telling the woman to get up because she was there before her. You attend functions with extra bags to pack food and drinks and when it’s time to hit the dancing floor, you do that as if there is no tomorrow. What do you expect from life when you are the source of all quarrels in your neighbourhood, church and office?

This is the moment of truth and if at all you want to be delivered, your decision to deliver yourself is the first step to your breakthrough.

as regards to the advice part of the post, well it depends on the number of productivity years left in the lady - if she is 30 for example and you are 28, then by all means you can go ahead since she still has a lot of years ahead of her to produce. But if she was 40 for example and you are 38, then i wouldn't advice it since she would be nearing menopause by then  grin grin grin
