iiiyyyk:

U know the truth, but u are just trying to twist the truth, this is not goin to help us, our society is geting wiser day by day.
In nigeria, the CMD is doing the job of a CEO. This office is not a clinlcal position and shld not be an exclusive reserve for physicians. The office of the CMD in nigeria, is purely managerial and adminlstrative and could be occupied by any body.

The office of CMAC, in nigeria, is same as MD in developed world, is purely clinical office and should be occupied by a consultant physician.

For our heath care to grow, we need CEOs who will run our hospitals without any professional bias.

It is only the truth that will set us free.
U forgot to tell us about the office of director of administration(DA) in our teaching hospital.

phantom: CMD and CEO are they really the same thing
American pattern is different from ours. In our system,CEO is the director of administration which should be a health manager. Do u want us to have 2 health manager?
Health / Re: FG Challenges NMA To Public Debate. by Shakes85: 8:51am On Jul 12, 2014
DebateNigeria: Debate is good news.
First of all, health managers should take charge of our hospitals, that will put an end to this fracas. The doctor should be second in the hierarchy while others follow.
We are currently having a debate in the previous NMA thread. I am yet to see any hospital in the USA where a laboratory scientist or a pharmacist or a nurse is made head over a medical doctor. Most times they make health managers head of hospitals, these are people with vast knowledge on management, they are business minded and goal oriented. It's not enough for a medical doctor or any other health worker to work for several years and automatically earn the position meant for managers. Doctors should be made head of clinical services while managers, economists et al head the hospitals.
The problem with hospital management in nigeria is corruption jst like other govt parastatal. When the post of C.M.D is influenced by politics rather than merit. Even an administrative clerk is even corrupt. Some patients are beign overcharged by the cashier in revenue when clearing discharged patient. The bottom line is when will nigeria fight corruption and do things on merit.

Health / Re: A Doctor Shouldn't Run A Hospital by Shakes85: 8:18pm On Jul 11, 2014
That is why we have the post of director of administration in the hospital. A doctor can't occupy this post and not intrested in it.

MEDICAL DOCTORS STRIKE

How can medical doctors agree to go on strike and not just that, but with all their members in participation.

The solution to this is for the Federal Govt. and the Ministry of Education to draft a curriculum that enables all graduates on all Medical Science courses like Biochemistry, Anatomy, Microbiology, Biotechnology e.t.c. to go on and get their Doctorate in Medicine if they choose to as it is done in the US and Uk so that their would be enough medical doctors in the country
(they are called scientist physicians in the US, U can google it.).

Their is nothing special about nigerian medical doctors only that their are limited pklaces for people who choose to study medicine and only few with the means and connections corner it and not that those medical doctors are more imtelligent than people who graduate with first class and second class upper in these medical sciences.
[/quo
If you study any other medical related or biological sc. course in nigeria, u can still study medicine as a 2nd degree and u start from 2nd year. In my set we had graduate in anatomy, biochemistry, botnay, nursing sc etc. Also there is nothing like 1st class or 2nd class in medicine. U must pass all and if u got a distinction is added.

Oluwalomoejoda: It is a tragedy of a nation to have a people who do not value lives•I have followed all the arguments! It is certainly disastrous to know that life is the cheapest thing in my country•Doctors are well respected and handsomely paid in any great nation•For the paramedics and all its allied to be called consultants;they should cite an example of a country it is done•I will not like to say much but one of the reasons that made many of Nigerian doctors left Nigeria is justified•I am sad to see my country going down every second•Many of us value money than life•Nigeria needs help and it is an emergency•
Well said my brother. Nigeria is where they fly money for bribery nd corruption wit helicopter nd chartered plane while there is no single helicopter ambulance. If an accident occur in a highway far from a specialist hospital, how do you expect the victim to survive. I was watchin in news when a governor is pledging cieling fan for a general hospital to aid patient discomfort but I ask is that the medical equipment the hospital needs? I have seen so many times when parents abandon their children in the hospital while the doctors run around seekin to pay the health bills nd now that same society says doctors are greedy nd selfish. It lives me to the conclusion that nigerians don't value life and is indeed the cheapest thing in nigeria

warrior01: Hate doctors? The fact is those people in Nigeria that parade themselves as Doctors, don't know what it really means to be a mreal doctor. No ethics, no compassion and no proffessionalism. All we have is a bunch of greedy people that is full of unnecessary pride. If you doubt me, why do our people rush to India for proper treatment?
because your govt has failed in providing basic health infrastructure nd equipments.
Health / Re: NMA Vs JOHESU Vs FG Vs Patients........ Why the hatred for doctors??? by Shakes85: 10:23am On Jul 11, 2014
Janiobi: When you guys starts saving lifes first than bodring about the registration and hospital fees b4 operating on patients then we would care for you guys...Imagine an injured person runing to a nearby hospital to receive care and Died right there cause he had not the money to pay for his treatment,So he was not responded too. W.T.F is going on with docs?
That can only happen in private hospitals. I know how many times we open billings form to treat people on credit. I know how many times I pay for drugs for my patient nd even donate blood for free. Can the govt boast of placing a well equipped nd functiona ambulance on the road? An injured patient die on arrival in the hospital because he has not received urgent attention. There is a golden hour in emergency cases and if you don't act then don't expect magic. In private hospital when you know the doctor attending to you might not be the owner, how do u want him to offer free service. This is why we asking govt to make a 100% health insuranse coverage for the citizens as you get in other nations.

@ op or funke wateva, if actually u re a good journalist what I expected you to do before the strike is wat I call investigative journalism. Meaning you should get a video camera probably a spy camera, pretend to be a medical student in an elective posting, cover every dept in a teaching hospital, ask intelligent questions, cover night calls, monitor nd observe then you can make a video documetry for the public to view.
When will our media learn to do a proper work?

There is no need for long stories. Rush to google and type these words-'Is m.b.b.s an International standard for doctors?"

Come back with the results and enlighten us.
As u said no need for long stories. Check wikipedia for these words- mbbs nd md. Read it, digest it then u enlightens us.

YourHealthlabs:

Nigerian B.mls have been evaluated to be of US standard. Nigerian scientists pass the NCA and ASCP exams with ease to work as MLScientists in U.S and Canadian labs.

Nigerian M.bbs is NOT an International standard. MD is d real deal.

U.S and U.K hospital DO NOT employ Nigerian docs instantly. They are made to write USMLE which is very highly competitive for non-US and non-Canadian trained docs and chances are very slim for these foreign-trained physicians in the U.S.

Stop misleading people.

We've settle this issue in my previous posts on a different thread.
My guy MBBS is an international standard o abeg stop disgracing ur self.americans call theirs MD while other call it MBBS(medicine bachelor bachelor of surgery) in such country you get MD when u attain a phd degree in a medical course. Yes u have to write usmle before u practice as a foriegn dr in usa. Also any foreign dr has to write our foriegn medical exam here in nigeria before u practise here in nigeria.there is diversity in medicine in the tropics and in temprate region is not fully a textbook tin but practical based. Example in nigeria most people wit fever r likely to have malaria while abroad is more of a viral stuff. Also medicine in devolping nation like nigeria where u battle with issues of finance and avalabity of infrastrutre has to reflects in ur management so is even more difficult practicing here. Pls appreciate the effort of our doctors. Doctors has been a constant in this equation.
