Visa applicants to the US may be asked for social media usernames, email addresses and phone numbers

The Trump administration has approved plans to ask US visa applicants for details of their social media use.



Consular officials can now ask for social media usernames going back five years via a new questionnaire.

It also allows authorities to request email addresses, phone numbers and 15 years of biographical information.

This can be requested when “more rigorous national security security vetting” is needed, a State Department official told Reuters.

According to reports, the State Department expects that about 0.5% of visa applicants will be given the questionnaire.

Critics have argued that the checks could lead to extended, fruitless lines of inquiry or the collection of personal information not relevant to security checks.

Providing the information is voluntary, though the questionnaire informs applicants that “individuals who […] do not provide all the requested information may be denied a US visa”.

A proposal to request “social media identifiers” for travellers using the visa waiver program was put forward by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) last year.

This came into force for some visa waiver travellers in December 2016.

The new questionnaire applies specifically to visa applicants not using the visa waiver program.

Evaluation of social media activity is increasingly common, though US employers in Maryland and Illinois were recently banned – thanks to state-level legislation – from asking job applicants for their social media logins.

As we’ve been reporting, Beyoncé gave birth to twins — a boy and a girl — at some point earlier this week, but now we’re learning that she and the twins are still in the hospital.

According to reports from TMZ, sources connected to the family reveal that the twins were born on Monday in Los Angeles, but haven’t yet been cleared to be taken home.

Doctors are dealing with what is reportedly being termed a “minor issue” with the twins’ health, though it’s unclear exactly what that means.

Beyoncé, too, is reportedly still in the hospital, but there are no indications she’s anything but fine — and the babies, too, are reportedly expected to be just fine.

It just sounds like doctors don’t yet feel comfortable releasing them to go home — though from what it sounds like, that should happen soon enough and this will all be behind the newly-growing family.

A MAN has tried to attack a police officer at a major London train station while shouting Allahu Akbar, according to reports.



The incident happened this lunchtime at Paddington Station.
Pictures are emerging of two police officers and a member of the public trying to restrain the man.

A vehicle has run into pedestrians in north London, causing “a number of casualties”, UK police have said.
Witnesses said a van veered off the road into crowds outside a mosque on Seven Sisters Road near Finsbury Park station just after midnight on Monday, the Independent newspaper reported.

Metropolitan Police said one person had been arrested after officers and other emergency services arrived at the scene.

“Police were called just after 0020hrs [23:20 GMT] … to reports of a vehicle in collision with pedestrians,” they said in a statement, calling the incident “major”.



“There are a number of casualties being worked on at the scene,” police said.

The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) said it had been “informed” that a van had run over worshippers as they left a mosque in Finsbury Park.

Harun Khan, secretary general of the MCB, said on Twitter that he was “shocked and outraged to hear” that a van had “intentionally run over worshippers” leaving Ramadan night prayers on Seven Sisters Road.

Al Jazeera’s Ben Rayner, reporting from Finsbury Park, said a police line had blocked off the typically busy road as about 100 people gathered nearby.

“It appears that some kind of vehicle – it’s not clear yet whether it was a van or a car – has hit worshippers as they were coming out of a mosque or a cultural centre on Seven Sisters Road, which is very near to a very-well known mosque here, the Finsbury Park mosque … probably 100 metres around the corner,” Rayner said.

“We don’t know exactly the motivation yet.”

London Ambulance Service tweeted that a number of resources had arrived at the scene.

“Our priority is to assess the level and nature of injuries and ensure those in the most need are treated first and taken to hospital,” it said in a statement.

Beyonce announced her pregnancy in an Instagram post in February

American pop star Beyonce has given birth to twins, according to media in the US.



Entertainment Weekly, Us Weekly and People magazines confirmed the news, but the date of birth and gender of the babies are not yet publicly known.

Beyonce, who is married to rapper Jay-Z, announced her pregnancy in an Instagram photo in February – the most-liked post in history on the network.

The couple already have a daughter, Blue Ivy, aged five.

There has been no official confirmation of the birth from Beyonce and Jay-Z themselves.

Other photos Beyonce posted after her pregnancy announcement showed her swimming under water, reclining on a bed of roses and sitting naked on a floral throne.

In one, the ‘Lemonade’ singer stood naked, cradling her belly with one hand and a breast with the other, next to the sculpted head of an Egyptian ruler.

Omega Mwaikambo was arrested on suspicion of “sending malicious communications and obstructing a coroner” hours after Wednesday’s fire.
He has now been charged with two offences under the under section 127 of the Communications Act in relation to “improper use of a public electronic communications network”.

Under the act he has been accused of sending “by means of a public electronic communications network a message or other matter that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character”.

In a statement, Scotland Yard told Daily Star Online: “Omega Mwaikamba, 43, of Testerton Walk, W11, was charged on Thursday, 15 June with two counts under s127 of the Communications Act.

“He will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 16 June.”

GRENFELL TOWER: A man has been arrested for ‘posting pictures of a dead body on Facebook’
A man was arrested for posting images of what appears to be a corpse on social media, according to reports.
Police confirmed a 43-year-old had been arrested near the fire on suspicion of “sending malicious communications and obstructing a coroner”.

The body is believed to have been one of the victims of the tower block fire – which killed at least 12 people.



Daily Star Online has tracked down a Facebook page believed to belong to the arrested man.

Several grisly images of what appear to be a dead body feature on the page.

The man’s Facebook post features the caption “does any one know this body laying outside my flat for more than two hours”.

There are fears the death toll is set to rise after the Grenfell Tower inferno – with residents fearing “no one” on the top floors of the building escaped the blaze.
A Met Police spokesman said: “A 43-year-old man was arrested near to Latimer Road station at around 6pm on Wednesday, June 14, on suspicion of sending malicious communications and obstructing a coroner.”

The arrest relates to the fire at Grenfell Tower.

The man has been taken into custody at a west London police station.

Families are desperately searching for missing loved ones and have taken to social media in a bid to find them.

The incident took place when a disgruntled United Parcel Service Inc employee opened fire as workers gathered for their daily morning meeting at a company facility in the Potrero Hill area.
Two other people were shot and have been taken to an area hospital, San Francisco police said. Police have not identified the gunman or the victims.

After firing on co-workers, the suspect turned a gun on himself when confronted by police and later died in hospital.

The shooter and three victims were all drivers, according to Steve Gaut, head of investor relations at UPS.

Witnesses say they heard several shots and saw people running out the UPS building following the loud bangs.


One UPS worker said the fire alarm sounded and people fled the building, while the shooter went on a rampage on the third floor.

While workers on a company-sponsored bus were screaming for the driver to go as they desperately tried to flee the scene.

Brent Andrew, from the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, says the emergency department had multiple admissions from theUPS shooting and “we expect more”.

The incident was not terrorism related but the motive is not known, Assistant Chief Toney Chaplin told a news conference. Police recovered two firearms from the UPS facility, which employs 350 people.

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee said on Twitter. said: “We are always saddened by the loss of life to gun violence. Any shooting is one shooting too many.”

A dramatic photo shot from a distance showed at least six people on the facility’s rooftop with their hands held up.

But witnesses say they were eventually rescued by police.

In a series of tweets that began just after 9 am, police said to avoid the area of 17th Street and Vermont Avenue.

Police officials did not immediately say if anyone was wounded or killed but officers are urging those in the area to “shelter in place” until further notice.

The situation is ongoing and police said they would alert people when the lockdown has been lifted.

Many Twitter users reacted with sadness at reports of another shooting in the US.

One tweeted: “We go from rolling news on Virginia mass shooting to breaking news of a mass shooting in San Francisco. This country is broken.”

Another said: “Prayers to all of those affected in the San Francisco shooting today. TO MANY GUNS!”

And a third added: “At least 5 people shot, 2 dead in San Francisco, law enforcement officials tell NBC News.

“It just goes on and on and on…”

A UPS spokesman confirmed there was an “incident involving employees” at the facility.

A statement from the company read: ” Local law enforcement have control of the facility and are conducting an investigation.

“The company is cooperating with law enforcement. We cannot provide information as to the identity of persons involved at this time, pending the police investigation.”

In 2014, a man shot and killed two of his supervisors before turning the gun on himself at a UPS distribution center in Birmingham, Alabama. The gunman had recently been fired from the facility.

The deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history occurred in June 2016 when a gunman claiming allegiance to the Islamic State militant group killed 49 people at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

Spain’s La Liga has announced a partnership with Nigerian stakeholders to start a high-performance academy to help develop grassroots football in the African country.

La Liga and Legacy Sports, which owns the rights to the league’s marketing and advertising in Nigeria, held a press conference on Tuesday in Lagos, Nigeria.

President of Legacy Sports, Philip Diwan, revealed plans to develop a high-performance academy in Nigeria in which players will be schooled by coaches from Spain, with courses also set to focus on the development of players’ education and character.

Diwan revealed three La Liga events to be held in Nigeria before the end of the year.

Plans are underway to organise a tour of the La Liga trophy across Nigeria, to share among fans and players. There will be a grand viewing of El Clasico, where up to 10,000 fans will be given an opportunity to watch the game together with a few La Liga ambassadors.

There will also be a La Liga legends match against Nigerian legends, which will also be played on Nigerian soil.

Director general of La Liga, Vicente Casado, while responding to questions from KweséESPN on the possibility of exchange programmes involving players between La Liga clubs and their NPFL counterparts, responded in the affirmative.

“Yes off course. Now with the likes of the Barcelona academy and La Liga present in Nigeria, we will do more exchanges, I am sure,” he said.

“Nigeria is a nation filled with talented players. La Liga is a more technically and tactically oriented league in comparison to other major European leagues.

“For the grassroots players to stand a chance of plying their trade in Spain, we need to develop the academies here, better competition between the kids, develop quality playing pitches in Nigeria where the kids can harness their skills which will aid them in playing tiki-taka.

“All of these are important in the development of the players and we see Legacy Sports and the League Management Company as partners in helping us to achieve our set goals,” an elated Casado concluded.

Police have closed off London Bridge after reports that a van veered onto the sidewalk and hit pedestrians.

Eyewitnesses have said that armed police were on the scene and that as many as 10 people were injured.

Police said they were dealing with an incident but gave no further details. A Reuters reporter near the scene said she saw 10 police cars rushing towards London Bridge.


A witness told the BBC she saw a speeding white van veering into pedestrians.

The witness said the van hit five to six people.

London's transport authority said London Bridge rail station had been closed at the request of the police.
