A pastor in an unnamed church, Mr Paul Dawodu, has asked an Ikorodu Customary Court in Lagos State to dissolve his 18-year-old marriage with his wife, Adijat, over her abusive behaviour.

The petitioner on Wednesday sought the dissolution of the marriage on grounds that his wife was quarrelsome and usually abused people verbally.

Dawodu, 48, a resident of Ogalami St., Ikorodu, also told the court that the respondent fought a lot and did not take corrections.

“My wife finds joy in abusing and cursing fellow human beings; she can abuse even a ghost and she fights me regularly. “I have tried coping with her for years but I can’t anymore.

“She no longer lives with me as she deserted the house 12 months ago. She reported me to the Human Rights Commission and accused me of irresponsibility.

“She even abused the people at the commission’s office recently, where I was ordered to pay the children’s feeding allowance through them,” he said. Dawodu, therefore, prayed the court to dissolve the marriage and grant him the custody of their four children. Denying the claims, the 38-year-old respondent,a trader and third wife to the pastor, said her husband was not telling the truth.

“All that my husband said is not true; I only fought them at human rights office when they refused to give me my children’s feeding allowance which my husband drops monthly.

“Help me to beg him; I still want to be his wife,” she prayed the court.

The President of the Court, Mrs Funmi Adeola, begged the petitioner to accept the plea of his estranged wife, since he was a God’s shepherd.

“I beg you to accept her plea. Being a pastor, you might have heard some similar cases in the church and I believe you settle them when you hear such,” she said.

Adeola also scolded the woman and urged them to remain at peace.

She adjourned the case to March 27 for possible reconciliation.

The Police in Bauchi State have arrested nine persons for diverting grains meant for the Internally Displaced Persons in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Kamal Abubakar, who confirmed the arrest also disclosed that 50Kg of 600 bags of millet were equally recovered from the suspects.

Abubakar, a Deputy Superintendent of Police assured that as soon as all investigations were completed all those found culpable will be prosecuted according to the law.

He described the criminal act as nothing but an act of sabotage.

The grains were discovered in a store house somewhere in Tirwun village being re-bagged in order to be sold to unsuspecting members of the public.

All efforts to get reactions of the State Emergency Management Agency as well as the that Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in Bauchi proved abortive as no official was ready to comment on the development.

When contacted on the development, the spokesperson for the Village Head of Tirwun where the store house is located, declined comments saying that the matter was with the State Police Command.

Ibadan – The Ibadan Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a banker in court over alleged stealing.


The suspect, Mr Adejare Sonde, was on Monday brought before Justice A. A. Akinyemi of the Ogun State High Court sitting in Abeokuta for allegedly stealing N124 million.

A statement issued on Monday by Mr Ayo Oyewole, Head, Public Affairs, EFCC Ibadan Zonal Office, said Sonde was arraigned on a 12-count charge bordering on stealing, forgery and uttering.

“Sonde was arraigned following a petition from a Regional Compliance Head of one of the new generation banks.



“It was alleged that Adejare Sonde, while still a staff of the bank and also an account officer of a Microfinance bank, suppressed and diverted the sum of N124,000,000.00, property of the Microfinance bank.

“The petitioner explained that Sonde as account officer allegedly collected cash from the microfinance bank on several occasions totalling N124 million which was not credited into the customer’s account.

“Further investigations revealed that the defendant allegedly doctored emails which he sent to the microfinance bank as monthly statements of account; meanwhile there was no remit in the account, ’’ the statement said.

The defendant, according to the statement, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him before Justice Akinyemi.

“In view of his plea, prosecution counsel, Mr Cosmos Ugwu, prayed the court for a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant in prison custody.

“The defence counsel, Mr E. E. Jacob, told the court that he had already filed a bail application and thereafter prayed the court to allow the defendant remain in EFCC custody pending the hearing of the application.

“The judge granted the defence prayer and ordered that the defendant to be remanded in the custody of the EFCC pending hearing of bail application,” the statement said.

Akinyemi adjourned the case till Feb. 16 for trial and hearing of bail application. (NAN)

Up to 800 passengers have been stranded at Gatwick Airport for five days after an airline cancelled its flights.

Many of the travellers, who were due to travel to Lagos with Nigerian airline Med-View, have been sleeping on the floor since Friday, and may not get a flight until the new year.

Med-View blamed technical problems which are said to have put one of its three planes out of action.

The airline also claimed it arranged for three planes to evacuate at least 700 people on Wednesday but one of these had to be cancelled after passengers became unruly.

I went shopping at tesco for like 1 hr, and went to self pay. Only to bring out wallet to pay and i realised it was gone and my phone! i had my lebara fone which i use to call nigeria, but no credit, so i ran home, used my wifi to whatsapp my xperia fone and a jamo girl had picked it on the bus on the upper decker where i sat. So i called a taxi and luckily i was able to get it all back. I later invited the girl out for coffee. Very happy ending!
