PoliticsAbba Kyari: NDLEA Act Prescribes 15 Years Imprisonment by sharpden(op): 5:41pm On Feb 17, 2022
If found guilty under the National Drugs and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act, suspended head of police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) Abba Kyari may spend at least 15 years in prison.

Mr Kyari was on Monday evening handcuffed and transferred by the police to the anti-nacortic agency which declared him wanted earlier in the day.

The embattled officer was picked up alongside four other accomplices, two of which have now been suspended indefinitely by the Police Service Commission (PSC).

He was suspended last year August after being accused by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States of being a member of a syndicate involved in a $1.1million deal which the principal actor and Instagram celebrity, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Huspuppi, heads.

Detailed conversations between the suspended officer and Mr Abbas who has pleaded guilty and awaiting conviction was unearthed by the FBI. This was after Mr Kyari denied wrong doing in his severally edited and deleted rebuttals on social media.

While on suspension, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) continued to discharge his duties, leading his team to intercept drug traffickers from Ethiopia, if the statement of the agency’s spokesman Femi Babafemi is anything to go by.

He alleged that Mr Kyari, who attempted to induce operatives of the agency and declined honouring its invitation, signaled his team from Abuja to intercept some traffickers that came into the country from Ethiopia at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

The team arrived Enugu, effected the arrested and returned to Abuja where they handed over the suspects to NDLEA officers for prosecution.

Cocaine weighing 25 kilograms were seized from the traffickers and Kyari proposed a deal where he will embezzle 15kg of the drug and replace it with a dummy of the same size which will be tendered as evidence against the traffickers when arraigned in court.

After removing the said quantity which he said was for the informants (7kg) and his team (8kg) and replaced it with a dummy, Mr Kyari was said to have appealed to NDLEA officers to take out more 5kg from the remaining 10kg and sell on their behalf at the price of N7million per kilogram.

One of the anti-drug officers played along on the approval of his superior, expecting to receive N35million ($61,400) which Kyari finally brought and handed over to him in the car of the NDLEA officer which had spy cameras and recordings planted on it. The video conversation of the duo has been made public before he was arrested.

Reports unconfirmed by TODAY POLITICS has it that Mr Kyari and those handed over to the anti-drug agency were actually arrested last week Saturday preceding the declaration. It said the police picked up the suspects, interrogated and found out that some men of the NDLEA were working with the cop whom the United States have requested to be extradited.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Baba, in a statement, had called for the naming and interrogation of the said NDLEA accomplices also. The agency replied him, absolving its operatives of involvement while vowing to spare no one indicted.

Painstakingly looking at the NDLEA Act, TODAY POLITICS learnt that the disgraced cop could be imprisoned from 15 years (at least) to 25 years (at most) if prosecuted and found guilty.

“Any person who unlawfully removes, conceals, destroys or in any way tampers with the drug popularly known as cocaine, LSD, heroine or any other similar drug seized from any person or otherwise in the possession of the Agency or any authorised person shall be guilty of an offence under this Act and liable on conviction to be sentenced to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 25 years,” Section 20, Part II, Sub-section 14 of the NDLEA Act reads.

“With the intelligence at our disposal, the Agency believes strongly that DCP Kyari is a member of a drug cartel that operates the Brazil-Ethiopia-Nigeria illicit drug pipeline, and he needs to answer questions that crop up in an ongoing drug case in which he is the principal actor,” Mr Babafemi said.

PoliticsSupport Group Speaks On Tinubu’s Wetted Dress During Visit To Alake by sharpden(op): 6:42am On Feb 14, 2022
A coalition of pro-Bola Tinubu has reacted to the trending photo of the frontline presidential aspirant said to have wetted his clothes when he visited the Alake and traditional ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.

Mr Tinubu, whose health condition has been a controversial topic among Nigerians, on Saturday visited Mr Gbadebo, seeking the royal blessings of the paramount ruler for his life-long presidential ambition.

A video clip of the visit later surfaced online on Sunday, showing the presidential aspirant, who said Nigerians beckoned on him to vie for the office, standing up to bow down in greetings to his host.

While he was doing so, the milky-colored Agbada Mr Tinubu wore in the video clip showed it was wetted at the back downward after his backside with one of his aides standing behind him covering his nose obviously from the stench oozing from his principal.

Many have argued that it was because of sitting down on leather chairs for long, a claim TODAY POLITICS could not Independently verify as at press time.

A screenshot from the clip began trending, portraying the former Lagos governor as suffering from Nocturnal Enuresis which the Support Groups Management Council described as a distraction.

In a statement on Sunday by Director of Media and Publicity, Biodun Ajiboye, the group said ‘evil doers were at it again’ to distract the politician with the ‘photoshop.’

“The success Asiwaju Tinubu recorded at these high-level visitations to top traditional rulers had again led enemies of progress, the brewers of hate, discord and disharmony to script a dirty tale to discredit this awesome outing. This time it is that he wetted his dress!” the group said.

“Assuming without conceding that is the case, so is it the back of his knees that would be wet and not the bum area? So if he wetted his babariga, he would not cover it and would still move to be flat to greet the Awujale of Ijebuland in the full glare of everyone present? It was the usual photoshop manipulations and shallow mental agility that pushed them to dispense a feeble narrative that made no iota of sense.

“Yet as their video showed, it was after their wetting incident that he went ahead and prostrated to Kabiyesi.

“This is another distraction, no amount of distractions or attempts to discredit Asiwaju will work to remove the wall from his political wind.

“Asiwaju Tinubu has declared his interest in the presidential race. He has his legs on the throttle. There is no going back.

“We appeal to Nigerian to ignore the evil-minded machinations and assure Nigerians that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is healthy and strong enough to undertake the responsibilities involved in the expected rigours of campaigns and politicking when the time comes,” it added.

grin grin grin

My question is if this people knows that they want to reap what they sowed in 2015 why are they not demanding power should return to their zone like our Igbo brothers are doing?

They should simply say power should return to SW and not to South because they didn't consult SS and SE before entering into the agreement.

Is it not foolishness to now seek for power return to the same South you sabotaged in 2015? Demand for power shift to SW and stop being a c0ward by hiding under the whole South to demand for power.

Those of them lambasting Igbos for asking them not to run for 2023 presidency should equally remain mute when Northerners seek same position. Una blackmail no dey work again.

PoliticsShettima: Why North Should Ensure Tinubu Succeeds Buhari by sharpden(op): 4:50pm On Feb 13, 2022
Senator Kashim Shettima has called on Northerners to ensure frontline presidential aspirant Bola Tinubu succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari in office.

Mr Shettima, a former Borno governor and lawmaker representing Borno Central at the Senate made the call in an interview with Daily Trust Newspapers.

The lawmaker argued that Mr Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, was instrumental to the emergence of Mr Buhari in 2015 as president after several previous attempts by the latter became fruitless.

He said by rolling out his political mercenaries to ensure the ousting of former president Goodluck Jonathan is reason enough for the North to ensure the former Lagos governor succeeds outgoing President Buhari.

“Buhari is immensely popular in the North. He has a cult-like followership of nearly 15 million people,” Shettima acknowledged. “But that never took him to the presidency until we had a handshake across the Niger with the west.

“Wrongly, he was assumed to be a northern’ hegemonist’, a provincial politician, even a religious bigot by some of our compatriots in the southern part of the country. It was the south-west political machine that repackaged and resold the Buhari brand to Nigerians in 2015.

“Without the block support of the South-West, it would have been difficult for President Buhari to emerge as the candidate of the APC. Tinubu worked for Buhari in 2015 and in 2019.

“This is why some of us find it utterly disgusting when some of the folks who vigorously worked against Buhari’s ambition in 2014 have done some political somersaults and are now members of what I called Buharist Church of Latter Day Saints, hectoring down on us and liberally dropping the president’s name,” he added.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) which Mr Buhari ran on its platform to emerge President was formed in 2014 by four opposition parties with the sole aim of snatching power from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which usually zoned its presidential ticket between the Northern and Southern parts of the country.

As the 2023 general election approaches, individuals and groups in the North argue that zoning should be discarded for competency, an argument Southern Governors Forum (SGF) rejected, insisting power must return to the South.

Southern politicians often claim an unwritten agreement exist in the APC for power shift between North and South, this the Borno lawmaker said has no base.

“In my view, Asiwaju is sophisticated enough to understand that no one can rely on a futuristic political pact, four or eight years ahead,” the senator said.

“Even a week can be a long time in politics. No one can predict what could happen between now and 2023, let alone predict it as in 2015. In politics you can only guarantee something that is within your immediate reach.”

Presidential hopeful, Bola Tinubu, says Nigerians called on him to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in office and he wants to do so without offending the Nigerian leader.

Mr Tinubu, an ally of the president, stated this on Saturday in Ogun where he went to inform the Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Michael Gbadebo, of his life-long presidential ambition.

The national leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) had last month notified the president of his intention to vie for the exalted position during next year’s general election.

At the palace of Alake, he said Nigerians were pressuring him to contest for the position after becoming governor at the age of 50.

“The people said, this time around I should run for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Mr Tinubu told his host. “I told them that we have elected someone there and I don’t want to pull the carpet from his feet.”

Mr Tinubu said the call necessitated him to, first of all, notify the outgoing president who refused to name his preferred successor over fears of his candidate being assassinated.

“I told the President I want to replace you and I don’t want to offend you. I told the President that I want to step in his shoes but not to step on his toes,” the ruling party chieftain said.

“As the number one citizen, I should start my bid by informing you first, and he (Buhari) told me to inform the whole world, and I have done that.

“I want to seek the permission of the Kabiyesi, I want to seek his blessings and his prayers and seek the blessings of other chiefs.

“I’m here to tell you (Alake) that, I want your prayers and I want to inform you that I want to become the President.”

Welcoming him, Mr Gbadebo prayed to God to that the heart desires of the presidential aspirant be granted.

PoliticsField A Northerner And Lose 2023 Election, Akeredolu Dares APC, PDP by sharpden(op): 7:21am On Feb 09, 2022
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State who coordinates Southern Governors Forum (SGF) has reiterated the stand of Southern states helmsman as regarding the 2023 presidential election.

The forum newly formed last year came together largely for the purpose of snatching power back to the South. It began by ordering member states to prohibit open grazing in its domains by enacting laws barring violent pastoralists from roaming around with their animals.

Their resolution met stiff resistance from the cattle breeding associations in the country, openly threatening not to abide by the laws already enacted in some states and have continued with their menace nationwide.

The SGF already demanded that power should return to the Southern part of the country from where any o its geo-political zones will clinch the position but some individuals and groups in the North who consider themselves influential are opposed to the demand, clamouring for the contest to be thrown open for the best candidate to emerge.

Addressing members of the Power Rotation Movement in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Mr Akeredolu dared any party that is willing to lose the election should to field a Northerner.

“In about two or three meetings, we have come out and declared that power must move to the South,” the Ondo helmsman said.

“Only a party that is determined to lose will field a northern candidate. You are now a movement of members of political parties coming together. What we stand for is fair and equitable power rotation. The only thing fair is that after 8 years in the north, it should come to the South.

“Some of us believe in One Nigeria that’s fair and equitable. We have a reason for it and it can be defended. Some people have argued that the Presidency should be based on competence. Are they saying there are no competent ones in the south?”

“My brother governors from the South, all of us are determined. Whosoever we pick, for as long as it is South, we will support him. We are saying the President must come from the South. There are people who merit it in the Southsouth, Southeast, and the Southwest.

“I also support your approach. If you are able to mobilise the youth and do not allow the election to be rigged, then we will win. You should also get our women to support us,” he added.

While rotational presidency is constitutional in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which held power and practiced same from 1999, such does not exist in the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) which took over power in 2015, aside a gentleman agreement on power rotation which some of its founding members claimed they had while forming the party.
