I have no problem with the North safe for the religious extremism and insecurities plaguing them there. Infact Buhari turned out to be far better to SW than a Southerner GEJ who with support of Igbos, marginalized Yorubas and even retired majority our people from federal service.

The North will never support an Easterner to win primaries not to talk of being presidential candidate so the earlier you realize that you're on your own, the better for you.

After GEJ winning, all the promises he made to SW, he refused to keep them which made SW political leaders and Obas to pay GEJ a visit to discussed their concerns. Were they not locked out by GEJ goons?

After the locking out, there is a particular tread still active on NL which SW was mocked.

How then do you now expect the region to support someone who made false promises to them in his reelection?

More over this is politics which is about interest. And the same interest gave birth to all the projects been done by this administration in SW.

Btw, this same GEJ that some people are still bitter about has moved on after the election lose. GEJ, Madam Peace and majority of Bayelsa people supported Lyon of same Apc who ousted him from power.

FYI, nothing will unite South (SW,SS, SE) as you erroneously claimed in your writeup. It's getting clearer that we share nothing in common in terms of intelligence and tactical thinking.

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the nomination of Rhoda Gumus as a national commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Mrs Gumus, a card-carrying member of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), replaces Lauretta Onochie, a controversial presidential aide whose nomination was rejected on account of being a member of a political party for the position which requires a non-partisan individual.

Registration documents indicating that Onochie’s replacement is also a member of the ruling party later surfaced online, same reason was given by the Senate while disqualifying the presidential aide.

One of the documents show Ms Gumus became a member of the APC on March 27, 2021, at Ward 08 in Yenagoa. Her membership number is 58315. Her name is also on the register of the party, and pressure groups within the ruling party have already congratulated her as a member.

Despite criticism from Nigerians and a civil society group, Concerned Nigerians, which petitioned the Senate over the partisan status of Gumus, the red chamber went ahead to confirm the nomination.

Also confirmed during plenary on Wednesday were six other nominees which President Muhammadu Buhari forward for the position of national and resident commissioners of the electoral body.

This followed the consideration of a report by the Senate Committee on INEC.

Those also confirmed include Mohammed Haruna (North-Central, National Commissioner), May Agbamuche-Mbu (South-South, National Commissioner), Ukeagu Kenneth Nnamdi (South-East, National Commissioner), and Maj. Gen A. B. Alkali (Rtd) – Adamawa (North-East, National Commissioner).

Others are Sam Olumekun (South-West, National Commissioner) and Olaniyi Ijalaye (South-West, Resident Commissioner).

Senate President Ahmad Lawan, in his remarks after the nominees were confirmed, congratulated them while noting that the 2023 general elections would be a “baptism of fire” to test their efficiency.

Condemning the confirmation of the APC member, Deji Adeyanju, leader of Concerned Nigerians, described it as a threat to the nation’s electoral system.

“It is shameful and embarrassing that the Nigerian Senate, whose duty, amongst others, is to protect the Constitution, has chosen the inglorious path of violating the Constitution,” Mr Adeyanju said in a statement. “Even under the military rule, the military rulers had respect for their own laws.

“The present crop of lawmakers have demonstrated beyond argument that they have learnt nothing from the incidents that led to the collapse of previous democratic governments in Nigeria even as coups are happening all around us in West Africa. We hope that this lesson will not be learnt when it is too late.

“We must warn of the danger that lies ahead if the political actors continue to resist an attempt to enshrine a transparent electoral system in Nigeria. The nation’s democratic institutions rests on a transparent electoral process. We must, therefore, refrain from such actions, like the confirmation of Prof. Gumus, that threatens our electoral system,” the statement partly read.

I am clamouring for the North to retain Presidency beyond 2023 because of these four major reasons.

1) Actions has Consequences: In 2015, a section of southerners betrayed their region by teaming up with the North to snatch power from one of theirs based on performance but couldn't deny the successor, who failed woefully, a second term because they are hoping to reap from where they sowed thereafter, forgetting that you can't sow Orange and reap Apple.

The Edo no be Lagos scenario comes to mind. You can't team up with outsiders to ransack your home while expecting them to treat you nicely afterwards.

2) Unity: If power remains in the North in 2023, it will unite the South (SW,SE and SS) and caution either of the geo-political zone about betrayal which I earlier stated. Presently, the SW will never support an Igbo man for presidency, citing insults and emotional blackmail which they themselves dish out to others including the North.

3) Greed: If power must return to the South by zoning then it should go to South-East which has never been there before. The SW has had their turn under OBJ, SS (My region) has tasted it through GEJ though not fully.

If our SW brothers wants to argue that power is taken and not given, I wish them well in their endeavors to go and snatch it from the North and stop blackmailing Northerners to return it South where they will use religious affiliation it has with the North to sideline others and grab it.

4) Tenure: If you follow the timeline of the presidency since the return to democracy in 1999, you will discover that the North is being cheated. The South (OBJ - 8 & GEJ - 6) has been there for 14years, whereas the North has done 10 (Yaradu'a - 2 & Buhari - 8 by 2023). If we are talking about equity and justice then the North should continue in 2023.

Reasoned discuss is welcome but I won't fail to treat unreasonable ones the way f**ls are being treated.

I don't expect likes for this post because truth is always better and my South West brothers dislike such.

Edited: Our SW brothers should simply say power should return to SW (because that was their agreement with the North in 2015) and not that power should come back South which includes them, SE and SS because when they made the agreement SE and SS were not there.
