Politics / Femi Adesina: Buhari Does Not Associate With Treasury Looters by sharpden: 3:42pm On Feb 05, 2022
President Muhammadu Buhari does not associate with treasury looters, his spokesman, Femi Adesina, has said.

“There’s one thing President Muhammadu Buhari hates with a passion. Grand larceny. Expropriation and purloining,” Mr Adesina explained. “Once it’s confirmed that you are filching from the public purse, you can never be his friend, no matter who you are.”

The presidential spokesman made his claim in an article where he praised his principal for reforming the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

But his claims are largely false, going by multimedia reports where the president has been seen fraternizing with individuals whose integrity are being questioned.

In 2019, Mr Buhari campaigned for Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano who was seen in series of video clips receiving kickbacks in foreign currencies. Daily Nigerian, an online newspaper, which published the clips reported that the governor received the illicit payments from contractors handling projects across the state.

While raising Ganduje’s hands as a sign of endorsement, the president called on the people of the state to re-elect the governor at a campaign rally held in Kofar Mata Stadium, Kano.

Also, a former Lagos governor, Bola Tinubu, is also an associate of the president with questionable source of wealth. He took delivery of two bullion van, which he confirmed were bearing cash, on the eve of the 2019 presidential election day.

His act contravenes the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 which makes it illegitimate for any individual to accept or make any cash payment that exceeds N5m (Five Million Naira) without going through a financial institutions.

He is still being investigated, according to the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) AbdulRasheed Bawa.

Last month, the former governor, notified the president of his readiness to succeed him in office next year.

Politics / Orji Kalu: Every Politician, Civil Servant Should Be Imprisoned To Learn Like I by sharpden: 2:34pm On Feb 05, 2022
Orji Kalu: Every politician, civil servant should be imprisoned to learn like I did

Politicians and civil servants in the country need to go to prison to learn and change the perspective they have about life, says Senator Orji Kalu.

“I lost nothing,” Mr Kalu said of his experience in prison. “I went there to learn, it was a learning institution, and every politician and every civil servant needs to go there and learn; they will have another perspective of life.”

The lawmaker representing Abia North at the Senate stated this on Channels TV on Friday while speaking on corruption allegations against him.

Mr Kalu alleged that a former president whom he refused to name was among those responsible for his ordeal which he described as a blessing.

A Federal High Court in Lagos had sentenced him to 12 years imprisonment in a judgement delivered in December 2019.

But the judgment was later nullified by a seven-man panel of the Supreme Court in a unanimous verdict in May 2020.

“The average Nigerian knows that I have committed no offence,” he claimed, explaining that, “There were 19 witnesses in court, and nobody mentioned my name, and somebody paid somebody to put me in jail for six months, and I thank God I went.

“It was a glorious thing; that is the best thing God has ever done to me, to be able to put me in the lowest end of the world. Mind you, I was meant to be in Wuhan on December 9, 2019, and the people put me in jail on December 5; it is to the glory of God.

“They put me in prison to the glory of God and Nigerian people should thank them because I am better off today being there.”

Politics / THROWBACK: 2023: Sorry For Any Party That Fields A Southerner - Arewa Youths by sharpden: 1:05pm On Feb 05, 2022
The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) has said any political party that fails to field a Northerner as its presidential candidate for the next presidential election should have itself to blame.

There are speculations in some quarters that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) might fizzle out of power should it fail to allow a Northerner as a presidential candidate in 2023.

When the now opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held sway from 1999 to 2015, the party used to rotate where to choose its presidential candidates, mainly from the two protectorates in the country.

When the ruling party was formed in 2013, the issue of zoning presidential tickets was not one of the issues tackled by the merger parties involved in the formation. It is on this note that some persons considered influential in the Northern part of the country are insisting that the party either field their son or loose power to any other opposing party willing to do so.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who is from the North, began his second term in May and will step down in 2023. Some leaders of his party are insisting power must shift to the South.

Yerima Shettima, the National President of AYCF, while speaking with Sun Newspaper said nobody or group has the constitutional right to prevent the region from fielding candidate in 2023.

Mr Shettima, who said the people of the zone would make use of its numerical strength to determine the outcome of the election, advised any political party that refuses to zone its presidential ticket to the North should blame itself.

“The beauty of democracy is the rule of law and the Nigerian Constitution does not restrict any area or region from having a candidate in a general election,” he said.

“Any political party that fails to field a candidate from the North would blame itself after the election because the North would use their numerical strength to determine the outcome democratically,” Shettima added.

Although no one from the South has publicly declared interest for the office, political scenario suggests bigwigs of the APC from the region are warming up to succeed the president.

Speculations has it that Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the ruling party and incumbent vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, are eyeing the seat of power.

Politics / THROWBACK: North Won't Cede Power To South Next Year - Arewa Youths by sharpden: 12:53pm On Feb 05, 2022
The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) has said the North will not cede power to the South in the coming presidential election in 2023.

The president of the AYCF, Yerima Shettima, stated this on Tuesday in an interview with Vanguard Newspapers.

Mr Shettima said the only option for the North to cede power to the South in 2023 is if someone they trust in the person of Senator Orji Kalu, contests for the position.

He said the region is still interested in holding onto power. The AYCF helmsman also linked the travails of the former Abia State governor, who spent 6 months in prison for stealing public funds while in office as the governor of the state, as a result of betrayals and conspiracies from his own party, the All Progressive Congress (APC).

“How can you think we will cede power to the South in 2023? The North still wants the presidency,” Mr Shettima said.

“The south is in charge of the economy and they have everything, so why would they want to take away the only thing we have. What would you call that?

“Even if we are ceding power to the south in 2023, we should be considering people like Orji Uzor Kalu. He is someone the north trusts and the Northern elders will give him their full support. Most Nigerians don’t know that Kalu’s incarceration emanated from conspiracy and betrayal from his party, the APC,” he added.

When President Muhammadu Buhari completes his second tenure in 2013, he is expected to step down from office. Some persons in the APC are clamouring for power shift to the South but some individuals and groups, like the Arewa Youths, in the North are kicking against it.

The youth group had earlier warned political parties to ensure their next presidential candidates are of Northern extraction or they have themselves to blame after the general election.

Meanwhile, Itse Sagay, the chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) has warned that any attempt to retain power in the North after President Buhari will break up the country.

Please , this is not any truth. The only reason why they dont want to disintegrate Nigeria is because the north will lose their cash cows , the south south oil wells. It has nothing to do with the Igbo.

The north know very well that disintegration of Nigeria will render them poor and worthless because if the Igbo goes the southern minority tribes will join and even middle belt will rather join Igbo than remain with the north.

This your lame explanation goes no where, if we SS says we won't be part of Biafra why then are you afraid of Igbos going? Let them go heaven won't fall except for lazy people who have nothing doing, relying on what others have for survival.

Sense must fall on our SW brothers, they think they can betray South and get away with it.

If they can tell our Igbo brothers that they can't reap where they didn't sow, they should asked the North to return power to them as payback for 2015 support by asking for power to return to SW and not demanding it comes back to the South and begging for unity through Southern Governors Forum, a group hurriedly put together to champion their already flopped mission.
