Ruggedman was the first major hiphop act in Nigeria, losing out on him meant losing their monopoly.

Back then there was this accepted consensus that you had to be with Kennis to be big
When Ruggedman and other hiphop acts like Trybesmen made it, their monopoly was called into question.
They became just another record label . . . people began to appreciate hiphop more and more and other errors kept dropping.

When Kennis was asked why he didn't sign Ruggedman he said 'You shouldn't throw stones at a fruitless tree'
They thought hiphop was a fruitless tree . . . that sounds so stupid right now
