PoliticsRe: "Minimum Wage May Not Be Ready By September" - Ngige by shehuaz: 3:38am On May 30, 2018
[quote author=actiondrilling post=67993143]The expectations of workers in the country getting a new national minimum wage by the end of September 2018 May not materialize after all as the government said on Tuesday that the September date was just a date to conclude negotiation on the issue of minimum wage.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige told newsmen at his residence in Abuja that the committee on the new National Minimum wage is expecting to conclude its work by the end of September and present its report to the government for deliberation and approval before an executive bill is sent to the National Assembly on the issue.

He said however that the issue of capacity to pay is also paramount in the deliberations on the minimum wage, pointing out that it was to get the input of all those concerned including state governments and the organised private sector that the committee embarked on zonal public hearing across the country.

The Minister said further that in the course of the zonal public hearings, many state governments made different submissions ranging from N22,000 monthly to N58,000,adding that the governors were also of the believe that foe the new minimum wage to become effective, the current revenue allocation formula will have to be reviewed in favour of the states and local government.

He said further that some other states are also of the view that the minimum wage should be maintained at the current N18,000 in view of the inability of some states to pay the current wages.

Senator Ngige said when the minimum wage committee concludes its report, it will be submitted to the National Council of State and the Federal Executive Council for approval before a bill is sent to the National Assembly to legalize the work of the committee.

He said even though it was not an easy task, the committee was making progress in its assigned responsibility, pointing out that it was in other to carry everybody, including the states and private sector along that six governors were elected to be members of the committee as well as representatives of the organized private sector.

On the threat non-teaching staff of universities to resume their suspended strike as a result of government failure to honour the terms of their agreement, the Minister said government was sourcing the N6 billion needed to pay them their earned allowances as contained in the agreement.

He said his experience as Minister of Labour said him that majority of about 95 percent of agreement currently being paraded by trade unions in the country were signed before the Buhari government came into office in 2015,adding that most of such agreements had no timeline for implementation.

He also said many of the agreement signed by the last government were not implementable because of the amount involved, adding that the principles of the International, Labour Organisation allowed employers to renegotiate agreements which they feel they cannot implement.

He said further that what is important in all collective bargaining agreement is the ability to pay what is being demanded and what is agreed upon.

He appealed to striking health workers to return to work while negotiations continue on their demands, pointing out that the delay in the implementation of their signed agreement was as a result of failure of the National Salaries, Wages and Income Commission to defend the two different figure presented to a government high powered committee.

He said the committee has directed the commission and the Federal Ministry of Health to go back and recompile the figures for onward submission to the committee for deliberation.

CrimeRe: Bitcoin Company Shocks Customers, Disappears With Millions by shehuaz: 6:33am On Apr 14, 2018
[quote author=sophsia62 post=66693847]A Bitcoin company in Calabar has disappeared into thin air with millions of Naira of customer’s money. As early as 8am yesterday, customers besieged the company’s office on Bassey Duke only to discover that the company had closed shop and vanished with their money.

Several phone calls were made by the customers but no response from the company officials that started operations about two months ago, collecting money from customers and giving them a whooping 30 per cent extra after seven days online trading.

As at yesterday, over 1000 people who were expecting their monies, broke into the offices and carted away any item they could lay their hands on as little compensation for their investment.
The entire premises of the company that occupied few rooms in the Bassey Duke shopping mall was taken over by frustrated customers and one of them who gave his name as Ifeanyi said, “This is things fall apart. I put in over N2.5million and now everything is gone.”
Another customer, who cried profusely, claiming he put in N5 million said, “I saw people collecting 30 per cent interest after one week that is why I also put in money. A huge part of the money I put in was even borrowed”.
Some National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members also invested and one of them said she put in N1.5 million and it was all her money in the world.
Another corper who put in N150, 000, said, “That money was all the money I saved in this my service year. This is painful, I thought I could do ‘business’ and help myself and my poor family”
It was gathered that thousands of people invested in the scheme, as someone told The Guardian, “The crowd you are seeing today are just a few that have come to get their money. They made millions and disappeared with our money. I don’t know why we would never learn. MMM and the likes that promises quick profit have duped us in the past, yet we keep falling for them, including me. I put in N500, 000 into this one and now see my money has gone down the drain.”
The situation caused an atmosphere of pandemonium and some soldiers who arrived in the afternoon fired several shots in the air to disperse the people but they kept coming.

I Wonder why we people leave behind our intelligent and blame ourselves when things went wrong. how comes does you put your money to attract a 30% of it in just a week. is it justifiable even in your thought. let us be wise.
seven years back a similar company went away with millions of naira of their customers in some northern states, of which the victims were mainly Igbo's.

Mr. gate speech on Nigerian economic plan as it does not reflect the need of Nigerians is absolutely right, although some people particularly the government and its associate will find it a detriment.
I'm so optimistic and carefully observe the current economic reality in the country despite the fact that the government is working toward revamping the scurvy and injurious economy suffered from a long damaged by cowards and greed leaders of past administration, instead of government to strictly focus on the revive and improving the Health, Education and creating opportunities it then merely went at wrong path leaving luckless nigerians in a sorry and critical stage ever experiencing since independence.

PoliticsRe: Olusegun Obasanjo: I Will Commit Suicide By Hanging If Nigeria Loses Hope by shehuaz: 3:35pm On Feb 17, 2018
stephanie11:
@POLITICSNGR

Ex-president, Olusegun Obasanjo has threatened to commit suicide the day he finds out Nigeria has lost hope. He said that his positive belief in Nigeria is the reason why he never remains silent when things go wrong in the country.

Speaking to students of the Ijaw National Academy(INA) Kaiama at the school auditorium in Bayelsa, OBJ said;

"If Nigeria does not have hope I would find a rope and commit suicide immediately because then what am I living for? I am an incurable optimist in Nigeria. Nigeria has hope. There are many things we should have done as we should have done them.

There is no doubt about that. But that does not mean Nigeria does not have hope. Look, hope is what drives any human being. A person without hope is like a person without life.

How can I, therefore, say that Nigeria has no hope? Nigeria has hope and you are part of the hope of Nigeria. You asking me that question heightens my conviction that Nigeria has hope. This country in spite of our difficulties, we have hope.

I just came back from Rome and while there I asked the Ambassador what are his major problems and he told me that there are 1600 Nigerians in Italian prisons, that is a problem but we shouldn’t because of that say that there is no hope for Nigeria. No, I won’t say that.

I would say that we have a problem that we have to address and if we don’t address that problem we are postponing the evil day. That doesn’t mean that Nigeria has no hope. Never lose hope. If you lose hope you lose everything. Great hope because of you and great hope because I would not keep my mouth shut when I see things or anything wrong in Nigeria".

PoliticsRe: Boko Haram Uses Special Roofs To Evade Air Bombardment —Army by shehuaz: 9:07am On Jan 09, 2018
Omooba77:
The Nigerian Army has said a new trick used by the Boko Haram insurgents to evade air detection and bombardments by troops was to roof their buildings with “mud and coated sugar.”

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Sani Usman, said this on Monday, noting that the military had uncovered the trick and would soon apprehend more Boko Haram commanders.

The army spokesman said a factional Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, had been revealed in a terrible state of health and was no more a threat to the troops.

Usman said, “The Boko Haram terrorists’ trick of evading air raids has been uncovered by the Theatre Command of the Operation Lafiya Dole. The terrorists perfected the survival trick to continue their nefarious activities through their enticement, deceit and propaganda. These tricks were decoded through credible intelligence.

“The insurgents deployed special roofing techniques to avoid air detection and bombardment from the Nigerian Air Force. They resort to roofing their buildings and hideouts with a mixture of coated sugar and mud so that the roof will not reflect when there is sunshine. Decisive measures have been taken to deal with this deception.

“There is also no doubt that the main Boko Haram terrorists group factional leader, Abubakar Shekau, is in a terrible state of health and not much a threat. He is waiting for his waterloo. We reliably learnt that some misguided persons, particularly youths, are getting conscripted into the sect through enticements.

“The factions have recruiters all over the country, especially in the North-East. However, their clearing house for such conscripts is at Potiskum, Yobe State. Efforts are ongoing to track those involved.”

see techniques, if they have that experience of maneuvering the air detector by using a coated sugar and mud on roof to hide from air detector, ah they are very smart. kudos to our intelligent soldiers that reveal their trick.

ASUU commenced an indefinite strike action across the nation beginning Sunday, August 13

PoliticsRe: Obasanjo Commissions School Of Nursing & Midwifery In Makurdi, Benue State (pics by shehuaz: 1:54pm On Jun 10, 2017
[quote author=LasgidiOnline post=57375421]Nigeria’s former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo today recommissioned the Schools of Nursing and Midwifery in Makurdi, Benue State, which the Governor Samuel Ortom adminsitration reconstructed.

He expressed excitement at the reopening of the schools saying it was callous and a sad commentary on those who allowed the institutions to lose accreditation for several years.

The former President noted that it was significant that he performed the recommissioning while he was in the state for a campaign for Zero Hunger, noting that good food and nutrition were the beginning of good health.

He charged the students to be committed to the Nursing and Midwifery professions stressing that they carried great responsibilities having to do with the saving of lives.
Chief Obasanjo noted that healing was a great part of the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ and as such those who had such a responsibility were in good company.

He praised Governor Ortom for reconstructing and restoring accreditation to the schools and prayed that God would bless him and the state.

The Governor had explained that the institutions had lost accreditation for four years on account of dilapidation of infrastructure and equipment a situation which he reversed and obtained their reaccreditation.

The Governor stated that his administration reconstructed the two schools on account of their contribution to health care delivery in the state and beyond noting that graduates of the schools found ready employment upon the completion of their studies.

He stated that the School of Nursing resumed academic activities with 85 student nurses and 20 post basic students while that of Midwifery admitted 35 new students.

I condemned the recent post by some group of northern youths, issued an ultimatum notice to Igbo people to vacate north before October 1.
I'm young Nigerian from the northern region, I felt extreme hash over featuring such words against a particular ethnic group living in another part of their country, such act is an insane and treat to national unity.
if this move was as a result of recent order to stay at home by ipob leader in cognizant of their fallen heroes and heroines during the civil war. the order served as remembrance day was a something not to be worried about. I believed that, this treat attempt will not work and I regard it as a propaganda.
