Don't deliberately pick on any tribe to bash dude! There is no place called the core-North in Nigeria, and I suppose I don't need to teach you geography. The effort at willfully distorting facts to serve some ulterior motives is so great in Nigeria that one becomes dumbfounded that otherwise educated people are giddily taking on and uncritically peddling ignorance. The three regions that make up the North are enough for any one who wants to say or write something about the North. I truly think that there is more to this than just ignorance: hatred!
i dont know ur  history and experience with the north and i am not just here to pick out a tribe i can bash plus there other northerners or pple u understand what i am saying, one thing i can tell u is there is a core-north or more appropriately, we have core-northerners, i know exactly what i am talking here i came this close to being killed by student i was suppose to teach while serving and i understand why they do most of these things, how they think and some of their problems with their perceived enemies.

and please stop saying the three northern region, from sokoto to bauchi to borno and co. the hausas/fulanis/muslim r all the same in character.

The reason we have corruption today is because we run an upside down system were accountability is not with our LG's, but lost in the bureaucracy and madness of Abuja. Why, for example would I want to phone Abuja when there is a fire down the street?
Our corruption is due to the lack of institutions and trail of accountability only true federalism can usher in.

As soon as the core-North is gone 99.99% percent of Nigeria's problem would be gone too. The core-Northerner is not a bad person, but their religious belief system is extreme and their cultures are inimical to co-existence. No other part of the country puts religion before everything else and no other region is ready to slaughter even babies in the name of religion. It is the mixture of religion and culture that has seen a third of core-Northern children as almajiri's; it is also the same factors that sees girls as young as ten given off in "marriage" to paedophiles. These things are staunchly defended even to the spilling of blood.

All of the above would have been bearable, but the core-North is the only section of the country that is also against true federalism, because their elite fear that their system would drag them into the abyss; so the rest of Nigeria is effectively a host to a parasitic core-Northern elite. For their fears, they also watered down the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) to near uselessness, claiming it was "anti-North." How can a bill that governs the exploitation of petroleum be anti-North where there are no commercial petroleum reserves?
As soon as these people can be cut off, true federalism and equity would become the easiest things to attain.

Preach, bro. cool
Taken!!! i have always felt thay way too.

what i am really condfused about is the south, the north has and will always be negative influence on the idea of Nigeria, what happens to all southern state? will there not be new division? will the north ever live the south alone?,even after seperation? they r bent on making this region insecure? they simply hates southerners(West, SS, SE).

mtaj:
Are you really having any problems with the core-North or with Islam? If you are asked to clearly define the core-North, what would that place be?
Look dude, i think i know the core-North he is talking about. while i was serving in bauchi just between 2 weeks and 10 month after the November 28 crisis in Jos i saw first hand most of Beaf's claim in that post u quoted him. these pple r looking for the slightest way to start a fight with anything not Hausa/Islam and u will be surprised at the logic in their reasoning. they actually see anything from yoruba muslim to the average southerner as inferior to them cos Islam tells them so or better yet they inferred it from the Holy Qur'an i cant. plus the average hausa man live his life with a ready-to-die mentality.

as for the core northerner definition, they r mostly Hausa/fulanis/muslim (hausas/fulanis who r muslim ). in the place i serverd i can tell u they r not up to 25% of the population but their willingness to cause havoc at the slightest provocation makes them the most notorious.

solution :- The president should invite Boko haram leaders, talk to them and try to resolve the issue

If that does not work, then military action should be taken to make sure the BH are arrested and persecuted
The boko haram r not ready to face anybody for conversation and the military is so infiltrated, u dont even want to imagine it.
Sometimes back during the plateau crisis some pple with explosive and weapon were caught and before u know it fed agent came and seized these pple for further investigation which we have heard nothing about. even the plateau governor came out to lament his innocence and how he has been in the dark over that particular case. now how do u expect such force to solve BH problem for us. we need sophisticated help from advanced nations to solve this problem.

it not about whose quarrel was at the peak at that specific point in time, but its about the level of intolerance and injustice that exist, unfortunately Ironsi could not manage a specific situation at a point in time, and the rest is history, just like when Buhari lost the elections and riots erupted is a number of northern cities, gross mis'anagement of that situation could have easily lead to a civil war,
I just need you to see beyond 5 young coup plotters and understand that Nigeria as it is today is constantly siting on a kegg of gun powder. You never know when something as insignificant as 5 middlebelt army guys assassinating a governor from one of the northern states may lead to something unexpected.

I don't even know if you are worth the response. You come off as childish and condescending as heck. Look no particular tribe is more intelligent that the other in Nigeria, period. All we are saying is that the ones that haven't tasted the power should be allowed to do so in the name of fairness. Going by you line of reasoning (The south-south people, clueless and no sense of direction. very violent and narrow minded), lets brake it down:

Clueless and no sense of direction -- The North has been running Nigeria since Adam, and a South South guy has been there for less than a year. Now going by the state of things in Nigeria, who is clueless here?

Very Violent and narrow minded --- Who are the folks with a one track mind that keeps blowing up innocent people these days in Nigeria, the South South also?
Power is not meant to be tasted, that's the mistake easterner made back in 1966 when they attempted to snatch it, (an action that has gotten them into where they are now) all for tasting purpose . . .  Very funny. if we are to go by the regions that re performing when it comes to a state-level assessment then i will give it back to the west in the nearest future.

@second_Highlighted_part: going by the state arrangement where every one (region) has freedom to express themselves, the SEners have not given us a reason to consider them for power. they r still well behind and they look more clueless than most regions. they talk hot but blow cold when it's time for action.

Sheyguy, do you really think that few Igbo solgiers killing some northern politicians was the root cause of the war? Just to enlighten you, there existed ethnic tensions between the man tribal groups and btw the main and minority groups in the years leading to independence. The level of hatred and suspicions that existed just needed an appropriate trigger,
yes,the coup of ibos trigered a counter coup from d north to increase the tension btw east & north to an unmanagable level. In fact that coup made the west to side with the north cos westerners were murdered just like their northern counterpart.
If thd west had sided the east then the war could have been a diff. story.

And 4 ur info the main tribal/ethnic tension in the country then was btw the north & the east.

BusinessRe: The Amount Petrol Should Be Sold In Nigeria. by sheyguy: 9:32pm On Nov 02, 2011
@KJ_HOVA
A Little Perspective
Looking at things this way takes some wind out of cheap gas' sails. While paying $1.211 for a gallon of gas, or around $18 for a 15 gallon fill up, seems cheap, it doesn't look so cheap when Algeria's per capita GDP at PPP is $6,965. Filling up twice a month for a year would be $435, or about 6% of per capita GDP at PPP. Filling up a tank in the U.S. the same number of times at $3.417/gallon would cost $1230/year, or 2.6%.

according to the extracted part of the second article posted US citizens use a smaller %tage of their income on fuel compared to Algeria. i think that's further reason for the price to be slashed down from N30 so we dont have to work 5 times harder than a US citizen to afford the same thing they can.

and if i must add the thread says N30/Ltr ($0.19/Ltr) which translates to about a dollar per gallon and will make Nigeria third most expensive on that list, now that's not so bad.
What happened to stats of other non-oil producing nations? it will be better if we can see theirs.

The population of Nigeria and the claims of the topic r some of the thing i have remained skeptical about. according to history books the firs ever population censor in Nigeria was largely falsified plus most of the population censor we have had has been based on the first one due to the revenue allocation politics and stuffs like that.
On the statistics at hand it is had for me to believe it however we shouldn't forget that the average(most) Nigerian live in overpopulated, homes as well as attend schools with overpopulated classrooms.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria’s Biafran Burden - Okey Ndibe by sheyguy: 9:54am On Nov 02, 2011
Igbo just keep acting like loosers, from biafra to compensation. always complainin about their billions what billions ? ? ?.  billions in pounds abi ? igbos suldn't be talking about compensation for a war they fought for what they believe in. after all it cost the Nigerian Govt. money as well fight a war it did not ignite.
Igbo army generals shuldn't have carried out the coup they executed(targeting mainly yorubas and northern army officers), that coup messed up everything 4 igbos politically.
asorocker:
fighting a war and loosing is one thing .
Fighting using food as a means of war is another thing .
Even the war in libya and other places food was not used as a weapon.
Having your landed property which you left in the face of victimisation and ethnic cleansing being declared abandoned property is another thing.
Being given 20 pounds or 5000 naira in place of the billions you had in bank is another thing.

what Nigerian fail to understand or comprehend is how come the country has not made any meaningful progress since 1970 despite that the country has not fought any war since then.
The one tha baffles is most is that the so called victors in the civil war are not even better than the loosers 41 years after the war.
The loosers now produce more garduates (human Capital) than the victors.
The loosers own more landed properties than those who confisticated their property.
The loosers command more per capital income than the so called victors.
Igbos dont have more graduates than yoruba do and delta/edo has highest literacy level if thats what u talking about (graduate to populatn also). as for per capital income they also provide more fatality via fake substandard products. lesson learnt never gamble with what u cant afford to loose.
