Stella was not having any of it. He will pay her the money he borrowed from her. Why does this guy act this way? She is managing for Christ sake. Why try cheating her. This is the 8th time she will borrow this guy money. He has still refused to pay back. Why does she always end up with the wrong guys? "Aunty it is your location that is the cause. " Is there something you want to tell me? Are you unhappy? ". There was a puzzled look in his eyes as he asked. He hoped deeply in his heart that she was not cheating on him. He would not be able to face the shame. John loved his wife very much, but he never showed it. He felt she would see him as weak if he ever showed her. He purposely doesn't pet her, buy her things, say he loves her. He felt only weak men do that. He hated all those lovey dovey shows of affections. He was too manly for all that bull shit. Veronica was shaking obviously. How will he think that she was seeing some one? She did not love him. That in her heart she knows. But she dares not show it or let anyone one talk less of him know that. She knew he did not love her. He wanted to settle down due to pressure from family. He told her that by himself. She wanted to get back at Don for his neglect. She was not getting any younger tho. Not that he ever poped the question. She believed with time she will love John. But that was not possible. That son of a bitch Don always was in her thoughts. When ever she and John made love she always wished it was Don. She loved Don that much. Till her death she can never love another man the way she loved Don. " Answer me madam". The shout from John brought her back to her senses. " Calm down. Don't you yell at me. He vowed that he will never loose his temper on his wife. That was the past. "You hardly call home nor pick your call. That's why i was getting suspicious.............". She interrupted. "What  ?? Suspicious of who? Me? I am not home most of the time, but i never for once suspected you. Like i care tho if you cheated. So u do not have that right to suspect me." She said the last sentence through gritted teeth. Her heart was beating fast. I love Don and i think about him all the time. So of cos i could be cheating on John. He was her heart beat. Don. She wished she never got married to John. She wished she could turn back time. She wished she was patient. Or still single. She wished, she wished.......... She did not see him coming for her. He was so angry. She was not even listening to him, she was in her dream world, thinking of who ever the bas tard was. F uck he will kill her. He did not care anymore. No one can have her this time. She was sweating all of a sudden. Thank God she was close to the car window. Vero looked out the window enjoying the cool breeze caressing her face. She felt relaxed. She was getting hungry. She did not dare to go to the canteen for lunch due to the fact that she thought she might be oozing of the poo. " i have washed my pant trousers so i guess its fine". The dream came back to haunt her while in transit on the bike. Don still on bended knee smiling up to her. She opening her 32 like her life depended on that long awaited proposal. Her phone rang. She was dancing palongo trying to remove her belt , pull down the trouser zip, then the trouser when all of a sudden she heard prraaaaaa. Oh no this did not just happen. She shit herself. Today was an annoying day as usual. Mondays are always annoying. As in annoying. Irritatingly annoying. "Why is Lagos always like this na?" Wondered Veronica. She was tired of this Lagos but what will she do about it? Every Monday morning was a struggle, a fight or a stress filled morning. From no cabs, to long traffic from berger to the end of third mainland bridge. Well what will she do? She woke up at exactly 4.20am today. She was like at least there will be no traffic since ill be leaving early today. She ironed her clothes, took her bath and left for work saying bye to her cousins. She stayed with her big sis during the weekdays cause of the traffic. She has a place at far away Abule-Egba. Vero as she is fondly called left at 5.00am. She purposely took a bike from her sister's estate to berger busstop. Now the struggle for a bus was now an issue. After dreaming she will be at the office before 6.00pm, relax before work starts at 8.00am. But she stood struggling for a bus for almost at hour. At last at 5.58am she got a bus going to lekki, which is her destination, a sienna for that matter. On a normal day she would never enter that kinda car cause of fear of kidnappers, ritualists and worse of all ventilation. "Those useless drivers want to kee pesin with heat". She always complained. From heat to no ventilation to body odour of her fellow passengers. The body odour part is the worse of her experience, with the heat and airless space buses. The driver slowly stopped with shakara sef at the busstop knowing people will rush and enter. Vero flew forward and held the passenger's door handle. she tried opening the door but the door did not budge. uncle driver had not unlocked the door o. See as one baba was pressing himself on her back also trying to enter. " wait na he is trying to open the door" yelled Vero. The door was opened. See rushing. Baba push Vero, Vero push baba. They got stuck trying to out push the other. Fortunately Vero got the upper hand. She tried lifting her leg to climb into the useless sienna, her leg hung as she felt muscle pull. " What da ferk" she thought. Baba and one other person were squishing her poor bag and drawing her back. People were screaming behind her, "Allow her enter na so we can enter". Vero was like "I tire ooooooooooo'. At last she managed to enter the car. Baba now said "I dunno what is wrong with you that you refused to enter". Vero gathered all the power of vexation that had welled up inside her and replied. " What is this one saying with that his mouth? U refused me entering and held my bag and your spitting rubbish. Do you want to rob me? Ill check if anything is missing. I am not understanding". She started searching for her phone first, she did not see it quickly cos the anger in her did not allow her to see well. She almost raised false alarm, but held herself when she saw it almost immediately. Baba was very quiet. She then relaxed and wished to enjoy the journey. But no, she started feeling irritated ass per she usually suffers from car sickness. Thank God she had chewing gum. She took one and started chewing, feeling relief. Getting to the office at 7.25 am she prepared for the days work. At 12.28pm she was feeling tummy ache, was it cause of the kunu she bought? She stood from her desk but a colleague called her and was asking her questions. "Chai", thought Vero. She sha held it. When done she tried rushing to the toilet but saw another person who stopped her and started a conversation. It took everything in her to hold the poo. She was free at last and walked very fast to the toilet. She entered one of the cubicles and saw that there was no tissue there. She ran to another but said she preferred the one close to the window. She ran to the one close to the window but there was pee there which was not flushed. She went back to the one without tissue after grabbing the tissue paper from the window cubicle.TO BE CONTINUED............................. |
