Earthquakes: Nigeria is a death trap, you wake up in the morning dead then fight through the day to stay alive.
As common as India, trucks don’t enter the road until 9pm to 5am. With this the chances of killing people reduces at least. RIP to the deads who were going about their normal business Some States here also got this law; like Kaduna, trucks can only go through the bypass during daytime. Going to cities and metropolis during the day isn't allowed until after 8 pm. |

One action lead to another. Actions have consequences. Could you imagine. Like this Palestinian Israel war just started Oct 7. Defenseless Israel killing close to 40,000 civilians? What happened in the Nakba? Indeed media is very powerful tool. It changes white to black and son on. Good. |

Yampotatocarrot: Okay, I'm trying to understand what you wrote, but can't seem to comprehend it
Is it until it's sharia that brought him to power before it can be implemented in his case? Those that sharia law is used to judge their case, is it sharia that brought them to that point?
I'll really love you to shed more light on what you wrote Alright. As stated earlier, shari'a is like an institution just like schools. In school, you got to get enrolled, underwent it and take the exam. Without this, you can't take it Likewise Islamic sharia! You got to be a Muslim, undergoes through Muslims's does and don'ts and their way of life before shari'a law can be implemented on a person. Yes, some Muslim leaders around the world try to act as if they're implementing shari'a law while as the reality they just decided to take the punishable part of the law to implement it. At times, they use it as a weapon for their political gains among the ignorant Muslims. That's why the moment shari'a is mentioned, the first impression that comes to us (both the non-Muslim and most of the Muslims) are: ✓ Short-sleeving , i.e.cutting people's hands, Stoning the fornicators,Execution; beheading, stroking; ✓Marrying four wives; ✓Women being subjugated/treated as second class citizens; ✓Restrictions this, restrictions that.... as and the likes.😞 You got to create an environment where Islam propagates and gets practiced. People needed to be raised/trained, educated, to know the ethics, their roles & responsibility before thinking of taking action of punishing them if they erred. Shari'a is a connection of laws and ethics. This is where shari'a differs from the modern law, where sets of rules/restrictions and their punishments are just being laid down, without means on how to prevent yourself from being culpable. Let's be realistic, not a single state/nation that practices shari'a 60%in this world. They are just doing what i previously described. Again implementing shari'a whereas there's supremacy of the constitution, do you think they are independent laws? Only few of the punishable laws (the ethics part is being out) of the sharia that do not go against the constitution of the land they're been implemented. And we then term it shari'a laws in some states like zamfara and Sokoto etc. |

Thanks and have a nice weekend Very correct. At times, if i see controversial/ phrase catching news on Nairaland, I don't open it. Politics › Re: Nigeria, not yet ripe For State Police - IGP Egbetokun by Shimran(m): 9:02pm On Apr 22, 2024 |
nairalanda1: We are not ripe for state police.
Ultimately, the problem is funding for me. All my other objections, I have dismissed them, even the tribalism and religion one. If state police is going to be tribalistic, they will end up losing investors. Bad news. SO, state police is going to work.
But funding is a big problem. A BIG PROBLEM. States that most cannot pay the current mininum wage, talkless new wage...are now going to fund state police. Okay. Either state starts charging everyone tax...which I know Nigerians don't like, or they take loan, and more loan. (Forget federal funding. ).
We too dey like copy other countries. Yes, USA Has state police, and also USA has a diversifed economy with everyone..almost everyone...paying taxes. Not like Nigeria where most of us do not pay tax. Even the one we pay, can only cover 20% of our income. We are not funding our National police force well enough...we spend less than one tenth what New York CITY (Not the state ) spends to police 200 million people. It's a miracle we have not crashed into anarchy by now. Yet we expect the NPF to perform like NYPD. Na magic thinking be that.
If I suggest we should do things like pay tax, remove subsides to find more money, and so forth, people will abuse me. Yet people are here calling for state police that their state cannot fund. Some will even call for regions to come back so that we can have regional police...it's like people do not know why we have states, and no, it is not because of Gowon. State issues started in the first republic...that is why we ended up with Midwestern region...and we would have even gotten middle belt region if not for the 66 coup.
LIke now, Zamfara state is poor, broke and has a massive kidnapping problem and bandit issue. It needs a state police that is well armed, and has things like drones, aeroplanes, tactical gear, good arms, and specialist commando style police. How is it going to be funded? From the state's brokeass funds. Same for kaduna. Lagos needs a proper urban force...HECK, Lagos needs a police force like the NYPD , with funding of 10 billion dollars or more per annum...otherwise it would be ineffective. Borno, we know. Even Anambra and Enugu need a well funded force...with esn. I haven't mentioned fulani herdsmen issues...you need something like a well armed police force AND a well armed specialist SPESTNAZ (google it) type force. Otherwise, wahala go start.
I tell you, unless we are ready to make some tough sacrfices, instead of expecting oil money to cover everything....we can't have state police. God knows, I wish it was otherwise. We never even adequately fund our own police force self...with wretched housing on top.
Are we all ready to pay half our income, including people in villages, and poor city dwellers...in tax, to ensure that we get a well functioning state police. And please, that thing called security vote....e no fit fund am. 👍👍👍💯 |
