nairavsdollars: *Asks Nigerians Not To Accept Party’s Apology *Describes Obasanjo As ‘Bad Belle’ Letter Writer *Oyegun, Saraki, Dogara Shun Birthday Colloquium
Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday hit at Nigeria’s major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the party would never return to power.
Tinubu, who made the remarks while speaking at the 10th Bola Tinubu Colloquium, an event held to mark his 66th birthday, also urged Nigerians not to accept the apology offered by the PDP earlier this week.
He said the APC would continue to talk about how the party mismanaged the country’s wealth in the last 16 years in order to enlighten Nigerians.
Speaking on the performance of the ruling party so far, Tinubu, who claimed that the party never said fundamental and sustainable reforms would be easy, added that the party, under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, had judiciously maximised the scarce resources of the country by investing in the electorate who voted the party into power as evidenced in the social investment programmes of the Federal Government.
“When we came in, we came in with a whole lot of hope as APC leaders, several discussions with diplomatic corps, with foreign dignitaries, putting heads together, thinking and believing in ourselves that we can change Nigeria for good.
“We were strongly determined that we will do it. We gave our people the confidence and the hope. We believe in ourselves. We believe in Nigeria and we are still going to do it.
“Life is not interesting without challenges. We didn’t come as a political party showing our logo as honey and sugar.
“Our logo is broom, bunched together, united Nigeria focuses against terrorism, corruption, and promote economic revival of the country, investing in people.
“I can see what the government is doing with so little but they are clever. The fact that they are doing it, the fact that there are beneficiaries, the fact that it is demonstrated in practical terms, is what we need to get our country from the throat of corrupt officers.
“They said don’t talk about it. What should we talk about? That we came in to play chess. We saw your thievery and stealing and looting and we say ‘okay, you can continue the same way, let’s join you. It is because we are against you. We won’t encourage you. And if we are not talking about it, what is the lesson to all Nigerians. Forget those parties, they won’t come back" he said.

DONSMITH123: Benue State Government has cancelled the planned mass burial for victims of Fulani herdsmen attack in Okpokwu.
The government had promised to accord all the 24 victims of the Omusu Edimoga herdsmen attack a mass burial on Friday (today).
Governor Samuel Ortom made the announcement for the burial during his visit to Omusu Edimoga in Okpokwu Local Government Area of the state, where the attack took place on Monday, March 5, 2018.
The herdsmen were said to have invaded the community between 2pm and 3pm on the said day, following an earlier allegation that villagers had stolen some of their cattle.
Some children who were killed during the incident were said to be returning from school.
Twenty four persons were said to have been killed during the attack which left many people injured and several persons missing.
In a press statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, the governor said, “There wouldn’t be mass burial of victims of Fulani herdsmen attacks in Okpokwu.”
No reason was given for the cancellation of the mass burial
The statement added that the burial will now take place next week Thursday.
According to the statement, “A church service, followed by burial of the victims, will take place on Thursday, next week at Okpokwu.”

JosEast: The wife of the president, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, Thursday in Abuja unveiled a campaign against abductions of girls. She tagged it “Leave Our Daughters Alone”.
Speaking at an event to mark the 2018 International Women’s Day, the wife of the president urged abductors to stop the act.
She also charged perpetrators of other various harmful practices against women and girls to stop forthwith.
She observed that this year’s International Women’s Day was being marked amid the sad incidence of the recent abduction of school girls at the Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State.
Aisha Buhari described the campaign as a strong call for the end of abductions,
She asked the media to own the campaign and spread the message. She also urged governors’ wives to propagate it in their various states.
“The message must echo through all corners of Nigeria and be on everyone’s lips. Leave our daughters alone, leave our daughters alone, leave our daughters alone.
“As a mother, I share the sorrow and agony of the parents at this time, it is my sincere hope that efforts by government will soon lead to their release.” she said.
The wife of the vice president, Dolapo Osinbajo said it was sad that Nigerian women were witnessing the worst of times because of many negative things happening.

Joevics: Hundreds of Muslim demonstrators have stormed a Coptic church in Egypt calling for it to be demolished.
A hostile mob wreaked havoc in the building by wrecking sacred objects and attacking worshippers after gathering outside during Friday prayers. During the brief siege the demonstrators chanted offensive slogans and called for the church's demolition, the diocese in Atfih said.
The wounded were transferred to a nearby hospital after security guards dispersed the mob. The nature of their injuries is not known. The church in Giza, just outside of Cairo, is yet to be sanctioned by the state but has been observing prayers for 15 years.
The diocese said it had officially sought to legalize the building's status under a 2016 law that laid down the rules for building churches. Local authorities often refuse to give building permits for new churches, fearing protests by Muslim conservatives. That has prompted Christians to illegally build churches or set up churches in other buildings. In contrast, building a mosque results in few restrictions.
Christians constitute 10 percent of Egypt's mostly Muslim population. Sectarian violence occasionally erupts, mainly in rural communities in the south. Egypt's Christian minority has often been targeted by Islamic militants in a series of attacks since December 2016 that left more than 100 dead and scores wounded.
The country has been under a state of emergency since April after suicide bombings struck two Coptic Christian churches on Palm Sunday in an attack that was claimed by the Egyptian affiliate the Islamic State group.
