Windows 8 was released a couple of months ago and I believe it's time to start a thread about Windows 8 Store app recommendations. I'll start with the ones I developed, of course - they're all useful :ClassicRSS - a Modern UI style feed reader. Available as a free unlimited trial with no in-app advertising. If you like it, you can choose to buy it. http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/app/classicrss/f9d9c5cd-5f5c-4356-8d09-992a49bfa25c MovieTimes - absolutely free app for checking out movies showing at cinemas and adding reminders to your calendar. http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/app/movietimes/0db46cc7-ddbf-4e1b-9316-3ee674ac5756 Slyde - a sliding numbers puzzle game. Free 1-day trial. http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/app/slyde/b2d34990-9639-485c-b1c0-46f300e2b3f0 Feedback is welcome, so don't forget to leave a positive (or negative as the case may be) review on the Store! Now, on to the ones that I've found pretty good (these are free apps). FreshPaint - this is an awesome, awesome app, considering I'm into art. Great for painting. http://apps.microsoft.com/webpdp/app/1926e0a0-5e41-48e1-ba68-be35f2266a03 SnagFilms - great app for discovering indie films. You can stream the films online for free. Requires good bandwidth, obviously. http://apps.microsoft.com/webpdp/app/2936cf5f-df18-4b4d-a7e9-3fdf19b080f2 Periodic Table - periodic table of all the elements. Very nicely laid out. http://apps.microsoft.com/webpdp/app/a8bfefe3-fa84-4c00-9e68-1b02ce32c0b5 Tasks by Telerik - to-do task management. The only letdown is your tasks doesn't sync across devices. http://apps.microsoft.com/webpdp/app/c66db128-7953-4da5-a87b-dc59758752ec ESPN FC - keep track of football league news, tables and live matches. http://apps.microsoft.com/webpdp/app/8948e646-9dc6-4b3b-b39c-5d144fd765c0 MetroTwit - Fancy Twitter client http://apps.microsoft.com/webpdp/app/aa115aae-09e1-48de-95a1-35d77d23c9a0 Pinball FX 2 - I've found this game to be surprisingly addictive which helps pass the time http://apps.microsoft.com/webpdp/app/cb9608e7-ac6b-4127-85b7-f81e27c9ebf0 Robotek - another game I enjoy. It's a bit of a turn-based strategy game with some luck. http://apps.microsoft.com/webpdp/app/e71a26e6-f9ad-4e8c-b306-f1c32abbdb69 Have you been running Windows 8. What apps would you recommend? Feel free to share! |
Royal bump for good measure. |
It's about 64 to 65k in the market. Be reasonable. |
So I've got this spanking new black Lumia 800 that I don't need and I'm willing to sell it off at N60,000 (Sixty thousand Naira only). There will be no negotiations. N60k is the final price. Any takers? Call me on 08093835336. Cheers.

PLEASE NOTE: The GSM radio on this Galaxy Nexus does not work. You may have to take it in to be checked at a Samsung service outlet. It was purchased directly from the Google Play Store, so there's no warranty in Nigeria. I used this Android device for a couple of months until the radio randomly died. I did not install any custom ROMs. I was strictly using the stock ROM. This seems to be an issue certain devices. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694059 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626593 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1643015 I have tried reflashing the stock files from Google and the stock Jelly Bean files as well, but this did fix the problem. The solution might be to take it to a Samsung service outlet to get it fixed. WiFi and every other functionality on the device work perfectly. There is a single visible scratch on the screen. I will not negotiate the price. I'm selling it off at N12,000 (Twelve thousand Naira only) and that's final. If you are interested, please call me on 08093835336. AGAIN, JUST TO BE CLEAR: THE 3G/GSM RADIO DOES NOT WORK. EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS FINE.

Looking at the store locator page on the Chicken Republic website, which can be found at http://www.chicken-republic.com/store-locator/?country=Nigeria®ion=Lagos it looks like there is a number of outlets on there that have not been open for up to a year or more now. I know that the ones in Festac, Surulere (Bode Thomas) and Jibowu (just before Jibowu St.) have been closed for quite a while now. Any idea which other outlets are shut down? And if possible, why were they shut down? Anyone know? Thanks in advance. |

LoungeScape is a city guide project I've been working on for a while and I'm finally ready to go public with it. The basic idea is to become a household name for travelers and tourists visiting locations in Nigeria. You can check it out now at LoungeScape Like the Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/LoungeScape and follow @LoungeScape on Twitter for updates. Feedback welcome. |
What's the LG Quantum? Short version: Windows Phone 7 device with 16GB storage, 5MP camera and a hardware keyboard Long version: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LG_Quantum How long have I used it for? I only used it for about a week. It's been living in its packaging ever since. Why am I selling it? I won this as a prize in a competition and it's a decent device, but I already own a Windows Phone so I don't really need it. How much is it? N45,000 (Forty-five thousand Naira only). No negotiations on the price. If you're interested, please call me on 07052214592

Haha. People change. In this case, I think we can agree that politics does change people. I wonder how much he's being paid. |
As the topic states, has Airtel expanded their 3G coverage to Festac yet? |
Seriously? This again? |
A few scuffs on the body but nothing unappealing. Software updated to Symbian Anna. Might possibly still be under warranty. What's in the box? 1. Charger 2. HDMI cable 3. Ovi Suite installer disc 4. Paper guides that came with the phone Asking price is N35k. Pictures attached. I'm a bit flexible on the price. Any takers? Call 08034139424.

texazzpete:Well, I'm more into app development than app consumption, so I guess not having apps really doesn't bother me that much, as long as I have the things I need to do basic stuff. |
Computer Village. The 16GB variant should be going for about 100k or thereabouts. |
Honest question. Why do you need a CV submission for a "contest"? |
Dude. 1. There's this thing called punctuation. Use it. I hear it's your friend. 2. Your post doesn't actually get a point across. Is this about the N9 or the N900 or Windows Phone or Android? |
I still haven't used a WP7 phone, but I know there are 3 things that will make me "entertain" the platform, so to speak. 1. Proper real-time multitasking (see: Symbian, Maemo or heck, even MeeGo Harmattan) 2. USB mass storage 3. Access to the filesystem on the device #3's not even a priority if #2 is implemented. Oh yeah, I got a 64GB N9. You can check out my short run through in my blog. </shameless plug> |
Picked up the 64GB N9 for about 115k. Did a quick run through at http://www.antinormal.org/blog/2011/10/the-n9-is-a-beautiful-sexy-device/ |
*bump* N5k last price! I need to get rid of this thing. :| |
@slimyem: Hi. Pics or gtfo? |
Oh noes! Guess I'll have to cut back on the phone intimacy! ![]() |
@gogetter09, you need to stop being so blatantly ignorant. ISPs usually advertise their speed using bits per second (bps). Since it's the commonly accepted knowledge that 8bits = 1byte, we can calculate the actual speed you get as follows: 1Mbps = 1024 Megabits per second. Let's break it down to the lowest unit. I'll be using 1000 as the "kilo" multiplier so you don't end up confused, because your math skills probably suck. Therefore, 1Mbps = 1024 * 1000 * 1000 = 1024000000 bps. Maximum possible speed in Bytes per second (B/s) = 1024000000 / 8 = 128000000 B/s So that's essentially, 128KB/s. Using this we can infer that the maximum possible speed for a 2Mbps connection is 256KB/s. You could also try to do some research for yourself. The Internet is available to you. |
Personally, I've given up on finding "stable" Internet in this country. It's just not gonna happen in the near future. I subscribed to Mobitel a couple of weeks ago and it's been a mixed bag. During the first weekend, I was largely unable to connect for the most part. It's been more stable now but there're still times when I can never actually connect at all. However, I do love the fact that I get the download speed as advertised (2Mbps), and it's been relatively very good. Pages load fast, I can download my Steam games quicker, and I can conveniently watch Youtube videos. I'll just summarise my experience with Mobitel and then you can decide whether or not it's for you. Pros - You get the advertised speed (It goes up to 240KB/s with the 2Mbps plan which I'm on). This more than makes up for it. - Low-latency, considering (~250 to 300ms to UK/US servers) - You get your own IP address when you connect so you don't have to deal with all the NAT bullsh*t with providers like Starcomms and ZOOM (where the IP addres is probably banned/blacklisted on a number of sites) - The unlimited service IS unlimited (for now). I don't know about later. Cons - Can be unstable on some days - May not even connect at all on some days - Sometimes slows down, but not a major show stopper - Lack of online customer service? I sent an email to the customer service address and all I got was an acknowledgement of my mail. No reply for over a week now. I don't like to spend money calling the customer service of any ISP in Nigeria. It's a waste. - Twitter still not working, Speaking of not being able to connect at all, I guess this happens to all ISPs, but not as much, I suppose. I'm currently subscribed to DoPC, ZOOM and I've got a Glo and MTN line. There was a day I couldn't connect using all four of these providers, all at the same time. Guess it's just one of the annoyances we have to deal with. |
I haven't registered my Glo or MTN SIM cards yet, and nothing has happened to the lines. What exactly was meant to happen after the deadline if your SIM cards were not registered? |
This game's awesome. I beat it last week. Currently on my second playthrough trying to get the Pacifist achievement and a few others I missed. |
Alright, price drop to N6000. Any takers? |
So I'm pretty much considering a used Peugeot 406 with automatic transmission. How much do they go for? |
What is this? I don't even |
I haven't experienced a freeze with the E7 yet. Yes, the non-user replaceable battery is another annoyance but I guess I'm sorta used to it now since I've been using the N8 for a while. Symbian^3's actually very stable for the most part. |
It's alright. It's pretty much like the N8, but with a hardware keyboard and a larger screen. Great build quality. The screen is really great for watching videos considering the size. I haven't tried out the camera however since I don't have a need for it. I already have the N8 and a Powershot S95 to take care of my photoshoot needs. The keyboard is nice. The keys are well spaced out and typing is easy and straightforward. I'm not too keen on the lack of a microSD card slot and FM transmitter though. I guess you could overlook the microSD card shortcoming if you don't need to carry more than 14GB of data around (that's about the amount of usable space you have available on mass memory). I'd probably get around to doing a short review on my blog within a couple of weeks. |
