The arraignment of the self-acclaimed ‘Obi of Lagos,’ Chibuike Azubuike, and three others before the state’s High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square, over alleged unlawful assembly, was on Monday stalled due to the absence of the fourth defendant. Azubuike alongside chief Martins Nwaodika, Chibuzor Ani and Dr Sunday Udeh, was charged before Justice Abdul-Raheem Muyideen, by the Lagos State Government. They are facing three counts bordering on conspiracy, unlawful assembly and creation of a chieftaincy title, preferred against them by the Lagos State government. The defendants were accused of conspiring amongst themselves to commit the offences. The incident happened sometime between August 2025 and September 13, 2025, at the Ikotun area of the state. They were also accused of unlawfully creating a chieftaincy title, ‘Obi Ndigbo Lagos State and ‘Dike Oha Ndigbo Lagos State,’ without lawful authority. They were alleged to have committed the offence on or about November 8,2024, at No 6, Anjorin Street beside Total Filling Station, Lawanson According to the charge, the offences committed contravened Sections 411, and 34 , of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015. When the matter came up for them to take their plea, the arraignment could not go on as the fourth defendant, Udeh, did not show up in court. The state prosecutor B. T. Adaramola, told the court that the matter was for arraignment and that he was ready to proceed. Azubuike’s lawyer, Moses Apasogu, reminded the court of the order that was made on the last sitting that prompted the adjournment of today (Monday) following the absence of the same fourth defendant. Ani’s lawyer Chris Obiaka also announced his appearance, while Charles Onyaka appeared for Nwaodika and Udeh, who are both second and fourth defendants respectively Onyaka apologised on behalf of the fourth defendant, adding that he called Udeh, on the last adjourned date to inform him of today’s date.[/b] The lawyer said that Udeh informed him that he got a text message from the police, informing him of Monday’s arraignment. He also told Justice Muyideen that before the matter came up, he had placed a call to Udeh and he assured him that he was on his way, but ended up not showing up. Onyaka said, “I will crave the indulgence of this court to allow one more adjournment. He is a 77-year-old man, he couldn’t come to court that last time on the grounds of health which he went for treatment.” Onyaka undertook to produce Udeh on the next adjourned date. “ I undertake to produce the fourth defendant to this court on October 31, 2025”, he said. However, Obiaka urged the court to direct the prosecution to amend the charge so that the first to third defendants can been arraigned on the next adjourned date instead of it being stalled again. The judge ordered that the first to third defendants should remain in the custody of the police command pending their arraignment. Consequently, Justice Muyideen adjourned the matter to October 31, 2025, for arraignment. The Lagos State Police Command had after arresting the suspects described the planned coronation of Azubike, who paraded himself as the “Obi of Lagos,” as fraudulent. PUNCH Metro had reported that Azubike was arrested alongside three other suspects after announcing plans for the unveiling of a N1.5 bn “Obi of Lagos Palace” at Apple Hall in the Amuwo Odofin area of the state that was slated for Saturday, September 13, 2025. blueAgent:If colonization and enslavement were truly so beneficial to you, I’m surprised you’re dodging to clearly state all the benefits. |
blueAgent:Can you list what you have gained from learning the white man's civilization in his schools? Let's start from there. I still find people who went to the schools who are still poor, homeless, suffering terminal illnesses and dead. So what changed with all the education the colonialists gave them? |
very Commendable from the king of Ndi Igbo. You have our full blessing. |
blueAgent:What have you gained from the white man's civilization? Are people not still dying of diseases? Has his civilization stopped wars, poverty or violent crimes? What makes you better than your ancestors, who lived freely without the poison of colonialism? Just because you are forced to learn your oppressor's language and taught to obey his laws without question does not make you smart or better. |
But why will they take his wife from him |
pcagbaji:Once a person is discharged and acquitted, there’s technically nothing left to “execute” ...they’re already free. The Nigerian government’s request for a “stay of execution” on Nnamdi Kanu's case was legally nonsensical. You can only stay a sentence or conviction, not an acquittal! |
pcagbaji:What the government did is unconstitutional on Nnamdi Kanu case, it's an act of executive rascality and contempt for the rule of law. The Court of Appeal had clearly discharged and acquitted Nnamdi Kanu, yet instead of complying, the government filed a stay of execution and kept him in custody, which is a deliberate defiance of judicial authority. A stay of execution doesn’t apply to a judgment of discharge and acquittal, because there’s nothing left to “stay” once a person has been freed by the court the only lawful step would have been immediate release. So, he's continued detention remains illegal |
Free Nnamdi Kanu now. The Courts have declared his continued detention as unlawful and unconstitutional Modified: What the government did is unconstitutional on Nnamdi Kanu's case, it's an act of executive rascality and contempt for the rule of law. ibedun:Do you even hear yourself right now? In what world does infringing on citizens’ rights serve the public interest? |
Protest is not a crime why is the lawless Lagos police arresting the innocent man |
Protesters regroup and continue to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu in Abuja, even after Sowore reported that the police fired live bullets and teargas at the protesters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSMtFF0hrYo?si=VnPFKovl05hZP66c |
Tochitee: ![]() Them no born any smelly pig well to tell us who to follow. We go follow anybody we want as long as it serves our interest. |
SuperEagles:It takes a brain-dead weakling to believe they must be given approval to save themselves and their own. Only a complete slowpoke waits for permission while their people face annihilation. |
hafeeanubasy:Stop talking nonsense. Ojukwu and the Eastern Region didn't declare any war, it was Gowon backed by the devilish British Empire that declared war against the Eastern region for leaving Nigeria. |
DIVINEEVIDENCE:Women never gets to mature emotionally. A 40 year old woman will still do what Regina did. |
Godfullsam:You guys are hilarious. Nigeria was barely six years old when the Eastern Region saw the hatred, lies and betrayal staring it in the face and decided to go its own way. Six years is good enough for anyone to realize a doomed project and walk out. BTW, the Easterners never removed any secession clause from any Nigerian constitution, contrary to the nonsense many of you keep spreading here. What happened was that Chief Obafemi Awolowo at the 1957–58 constitutional conferences, argued that a true federation should give any region the right to withdraw only under defined conditions. But the British colonial office strongly opposed including such a clause,Northern leaders Sir Ahmadu Bello, Tafawa Balewa and the NPC also strongly rejected it. Nnamdi Azikiwe, representing the Eastern Region, opposed the idea of a secession clause with conditions. Yet today you lots go about misrepresenting facts and distorting history. In the end, the proposal for a secession clause was rejected — the colonial authorities had the final say. No secession clause ever existed in any Nigerian constitution and therefore, none was ever removed. |
She should go to a rehab. I knew something was wrong the day she posted Ned’s private parts on social media. |
Godfullsam:The region you are referring to once left you in your evil British contraption to exist on its own but you and the evil British Empire declared war against that region for leaving. |
Colonialists are nothing but pure evil especially that evil country called Britain. The evils they did in Nigeria is not going away anytime soon. |
lawani:The real figure is more than 3m. Read here: https://www.icrc.org/sites/default/files/external/doc/en/assets/files/other/nigeria.pdf |
seunjungle1:Let’s be honest everything that still works in Nigeria today was built by the military. From refineries to major roads, bridges, seaports, power stations all came from military regimes. This thing we call democracy is nothing but a fraudulent enterprise. A bunch of politicians acting above the law, looting with confidence and disregarding the constitution to serve their interests. They shout civil rule but there’s nothing civil about the rot, impunity and organized corruption they run in the name of governance.. |
Saturnalia:The problem with you people is the same hypocrisy you’ve always been known for. Azikiwe’s political journey in the West was built on principles and merit, not entitlement or tribal manipulation. It’s amusing how you speak so confidently yet know so little of your own history. The same Awolowo you idolize also went to the East to campaign for the premiership of the Eastern Region. But when Azikiwe sought the same opportunity in the West, suddenly it became an unforgivable offense. So Awolowo could go seeking to lead the Eastern Region but Zik doing the same made him greedy and narrow-minded”? Tell me, if that’s not hypocrisy, what is? And when Awolowo realized he couldn’t compete fairly for the trust of the people he resorted to playing tribal politics...a divisive card that poisoned national unity for generations. It’s the same mentality playing out today...your people can become President and rule over others, but Peter Obi will never rule you abi |
Saturnalia:Oga shut up, Same South east gave Obasanjo, a Yoruba man 100% votes in 1999 and 2003. Continue to play your tribal politics just like Awolowo did many years ago, there's nothing you want to teach anyone that we don't already know |
The reports about some military officers allegedly plotting to overthrow the Tinubu administration are nothing more than karma doing full cycle. Nigerians remember how Tinubu’s close associates once openly called for a coup against Goodluck Jonathan’s government in 2012 . Tinubu’s current special assistant on social media called on the military to forcefully remove Jonathan from office. Even Tinubu himself once told Nigerians that the only way to have progress in the country was to remove Goodluck Jonathan from office. So, why is Tinubu not embracing what he plotted for other presidents before him? ![]()
