APC Governor showers praises on Gov. Umahi: Gov Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State showers praises on Gov. David Nweze Umahi for his steadfastness and willingness to develop Ebonyi state of yesterday. nPDP reportedly angry with APC over these 3 things: The trial of Senate president Bukola Saraki is one of the key issues raised when the All Progressives Congress met the New Peoples Democratic Party

The shutting out of House of Representatives speaker Yakubu Dogara from the APC ward and local government congresses in Bauchi was also raised in the meeting - Some of the issues raised were agreed to be real and as a result of this an eight-man committee was set up to resolve all issues
The New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) faction bloc within the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the federal government to stop the trial of the Senate president, Dr Bukola Saraki. This was said to be part of the demand made by the bloc during their meeting with the All Progressives Congress led by Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo at the presidential villa, in Abuja on Monday, May 28. The Nation reports that the meeting raised an eight-man panel to resolve the issue.

The panel will comprise four members each from both sides. The group is complaining of marginalisation in appointments and reward despite its “contribution to APC’s electoral victory in 2015″

Some of the issues considered critical in its complaints tabled at Monday’s meeting are:

1. Saraki’s trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

2. Shutting out of House of Representatives speaker Yakubu Dogara and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso from the APC ward and local government congresses in Bauchi and Kano states,

3. Alleged persecution of ex-nPDP members by anti-graft agencies and Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Idris. The issues are expected to be resolved before APC’s national convention next month. In FG's delegation are Lawal Shuaib, deputy chairman of the APC, Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, deputy chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Ade Ipaye and the national security adviser, Babagana Monguno.

On nPDP side are the president of the Senate Dr Bukola Saraki, speaker Yakubu Dogara, governor of Sokoto state Aminu Tambuwal, leader of the nPDP Kawu Baraje and Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed of Kwara. “It was agreed that some of the issues raised by ex-nPDP leaders are genuine and we need to come up with the way forward. “So, the Presidency, the APC leadership and the aggrieved leaders of the nPDP have agreed to set up an eight-man committee to resolve all issues.

“The committee has been mandated to address the grievances of the ex-nPDP leaders on or before the National Convention on June 23. “We have realised that time is no longer on our side. If you look at the poll timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), party primaries for the presidential, governorship, federal and state elections will begin on August 18 and end on October 7, 2018.

“The implication for the APC is that it cannot allow this ex-nPDP challenge to drag beyond June. If we allow it to fester till July, it might affect our chances at reconciling before the general elections. “Except for speculations, the ex-nPDP leaders have not given any signal at our sessions that they are ready to leave APC for another party.

“This is the window the committee will explore to find solutions to issues raised by those aggrieved. This committee is our last chance at reconciling our differences in APC.” The source added:

“We are expecting the ex-nPDP leaders to submit the list of their members who will be on the committee. “I think the ex-nPDP leaders may meet today (Wednesday) on their nominees,” a source was quoted to have said. ”If the eight-man panel could meet up with the deadline, its recommendations will be sent to President Muhammadu Buhari. “The final say lies with the President.

He can do anything to bring back the party on its feet. We are hopeful that he will save APC from disintegrating,” the source added:

Meanwhile, a trusted source had reported that Engineer Kailani Mohammed, a close ally to President Muhammadu Buhari alleged that members of the new Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) have made up their minds to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC).

On the eve of Children’s Day, May 26, wives of state governors in Nigeria visited President Muhammadu Buhari and his wife, Aisha in Aso Rock.

President Buhari commended the women for the various humanitarian activities they carry out in their states.
He said he would canvass more moral and financial support for them.

“I appreciate the role you are playing as your work helps in pricking the conscience of the people.” He especially commended their work on the IDPs and disadvantaged children as well as the fight against drug abuse.
President Buhari also encouraged them to interface with Central Bank of Nigeria and Federal Ministry of Agriculture over new and existing opportunities that women farmers and entrepreneurs can take advantage of.

The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari underscored the complementary role that wives of Governors play in supporting the programmes and policies of their husbands, stressing the need for the governors to encourage them. She highlighted areas where efforts are more pronounced as girl-child education, child abuse, women and youth empowerment and health promotion.

Äs mothers of the states, wives of governors have the ears of women and youths; this is so because they run programmes that directly touch these categories of Nigerians” she said, calling on the President to support their work.
Chairperson, Northern Governors Wives Forum, and wife of the Governor of Bauchi State, Mrs. Hadiza Abubakar said apart from issues of maternal health and girl-child education, the flagship programme of the forum is prevention of substance abuse, for which they rally stakeholders to come to a holistic solution. She commended the ban on codeine-containing cough syrups, describing it as a major breakthrough.

The Forum, she stated, is advocating for the revival of moribund drug rehabilitation centres and the establishment of new ones in states that do not have them.
Chairperson, Southern Governors Wives Forum and wife of the Governor of Imo State, Mrs. Nkechi Okorocha, said their activities take a cue from the works of Mrs. Buhari’s Future Assured Programme and focuses on issues of cultism, kidnapping, child labour, baby factories and youth restiveness. She said the Forum had trained 1000 women in different skills, while 2000 school children were supported with educational materials.

The Egyptian Football Association has moved to calm fears Mohamed Salah will miss the World Cup, claiming tests have shown the injury is not as bad as first suspected.

It added there was “optimism” around Salah’s prospects of being fit for the first of their Group A matches against Uruguay on June 15. Liverpool has yet to release a further update of their own on the player’s condition.

“During the telephone follow-up conducted by the national team delegation in Italy to check on the status of Mohammed Salah, Liverpool officials said Liverpool that X-rays were carried out on Salah’s shoulder and showed that the injury was a shock in the shoulder joints,” the Egypt FA signalled on Twitter.
