Car TalkRe: What Makes A Bad Driver-over Confidence Or Lack Of Confidence? by silvoice(op): 9:20am On Jul 12, 2014
abatically: Some bad driving habits I noticed

1. Honking of horn unnecessarily on streets or in traffic even when it is obvious the person in front of u is also stuck.

2. Speeding over zebra crossing. It is recommended to slow down when passing through a zebra crossing, and then stop for pedestrians to cross if there are any.

3. Executing a turn or switching lanes without using turn indicators or trafficators. .

4. Stopping in the middle of the road to drop or pick passengers. This is very common with danfo drivers, I wonder where these guys get their driver's license.
On point. Summarised as impatient.

CityNG: That's going to be subjective subject.

Here are what I don't like personally and I question the driving maturity of whomever I observe doing it.

1) Reving up a red cold engine, especially when said vehicle is a modern fuel injected one.

2) Blipping the throttle in between gear changes, not necessary in modern cars with synchronized gears.

3) Holding a vehicle on the hill by balancing the clutch and throttle.

4) Driving with mismatched tires, the car simply won't drive or track well and will wander.

5) Driver not maintaining a line on the road though admittedly this is hard on most Nigerian roads.
agreed! atleast 90%. The remaining 10% can be excused based on circumstances as in no 2 , 3 and 5
Car TalkRe: What Makes A Bad Driver-over Confidence Or Lack Of Confidence? by silvoice(op): 8:56pm On Jul 11, 2014
CityNG: You need confidence that is attained by hours behind the wheel and experiencing diverse condition to be an accomplished driver.

Take your car onto a wet grassy football field and practice controlling it.
I'm not talking of learners. I'm specifically refering to how u press ur clutch, ur break, turn ur steering, enter or avoid potholes, Rev ur engine, use ur mirrors and signaling at d right time etc. In manual cars. Even auto-Transmission.
Car TalkRe: What Makes A Bad Driver-over Confidence Or Lack Of Confidence? by silvoice(op): 6:30pm On Jul 11, 2014
silvoice: First, a skill driver should help us differenciate between a bad driver and bad driving habits. What are bad driving habits u know? If possible, help us esplain the two concepts for beginners like us. Or are they the same thing? I don't think so.
I'v heard people talk about bad driving habits. over confidence or lack of it which is an attribute of a bad driver or driving as the case may be?
it's also possible that, this is why cars tend to devolop fault with a particular driver than another, as was observed by my lanlord who said that his car goes to auto workshop at least once in every month until he changed his driver an for four months in a row, he did not consult any mech. For repair .

Please for Christ's sake DON'T include me in that ish I only helped with a harmless advice because I felt you weren't satisfied with replies and my moniker was quoted. Feel free to do whatever you like with your car But DON'T quote me again.
sorry! It seems you don't understand pidgin english. In anycase. It's a simple joke. If you don't understand the suicide angle, let me esplain: if this devils called Boko Haram snatch ur car in today and use it for suicide bomb an hour later. You will be linked to d crime as d owner of d car.
No insulting word in that post, ok?

mxxpunkxx1: Stop throwing tantrums like a lil' kid . . @Sultaan is a very respected here in "Car Talk"
Did you see @Sienna or @Ikenna reply you or @Lomomike or @Gazzuzz (excuse my spelling)
or @Nissparts
They are very respected and won't respond on any gibberish threads like yours.
Telling him you doubt if he even has a car, hahahaha, it's like saying if @Inspired_M even has a car, or Sienna
Their garage go buy you car over and over and over and over; up to a hundred times and over again.
Nigga even offered a prayer that even if it was stolen; its a sign of better tinz to come . . .
You should rephrase your comments . . that you want to prevent unauthorized use of your car from friends n family; not to prevent theft for car snatchers. Even armed robber wey dey escape no go snatch your car, a 1.6L engine, wen be say na Hilux Van or Nissan Patrol dem dey use pursue am. it's fu.ckin slow for a getaway

And don't even start with me . . .
My garage and your garage no dey d same mate
my guy i undastand. U hav done justice to this thread d way i wanted it wit this: ''
You should rephrase your comments . . that you want to prevent unauthorized use of your car''. With due respect to all car experts here, i apologise to sultaan. I only wanted him to clarify his post. I hereby declare this thread CLOSED!!!

sultaan: You definitely won't find it funny, but you have a working car have a Naija mechanic work on the electrical system is a really really bad idea.

I know it is your first cars but there are lots of better cars out there for you to be worried about thieves.

Thieves don't steal pink, purple or bright yellow cars because they are so obvious and will be noticed by everyone.

If you are looking for a honest advice dont mess with anything but if you have money to burn please ignore my jokes grin
u better reply my ealier post. Otherwise i wil assume dat u are one of those who cannot buy tire, but will come here to post that there v20, ps series: 2015 model of toyota has jus arived. U or any of ur friends should tell me why u think dat is a waste of money to restrict intruders from using my car without my consent.
Car TalkRe: Help! Car Electrical /electronic Security: Which Do You Suggest by silvoice(op): 11:55am On Jul 07, 2014
@sultaan
'you have a working car' - pls esplain

'I know it is your first car' - yes

'If you are looking for a honest advice dont mess with anything' -
esplain this also.

Are u telling me not 2 secure my car because it's a cheap car or is auto-steering lock enough security. 0r is there any other reason why u think that this clean nissan that has cost me N600k, will not be stolen by a criminal if he has an opportunity.
Pls esplain.

Car TalkRe: Help! Car Electrical /electronic Security: Which Do You Suggest by silvoice(op): 12:14am On Jul 06, 2014
sultaan: The fact that you are driving a "little nissan sunny 1.4L 1993" is security enough.
Anyone crazy enough to snatch that is doing you a favor so you will get something better Amen

Right now robbers wont see that car even if its painted bright yellow.

I guess you now have an idea why no one responded. If you don't those exhaust fumes must have done a permanent damage grin grin
i guess u are right. But let me tell u dat people snatch cars for different reasons: agbero snatch 2 collect 'matching ground' Robbers: for escape. Boko haram: suicide bombing. Car thieves: for spear parts. Ur friends: for flexing. Ur wife: to prove a point to u, etc.
So I just want something that will make d car un accessible to an unwelcomed driver.
Car TalkRe: Help! Car Electrical /electronic Security: Which Do You Suggest by silvoice(op): 11:51pm On Jul 05, 2014
0rex: You can install the Watchdog Timer security system. It is the type you must press a hidden button after opening doors before you can start the car. It is fairly cheap.
thanks man, do u have an idea of how much it will cost me to install this. After reading ur comment, i met an electrician, he said i should giv him N10.000 for it.

Pls i'm still waiting 4 a candid response
Car TalkRe: Manual Transmission : Issues & Comments by silvoice(m): 7:33pm On Jul 04, 2014
Ikenna351: If your hydraulic controlled clutch system is really that hard to depress, then the culprit would be the clutch pressure plate, what Nigerians call Clutch disc.

I can't think of anyother component aside this, for now.

Ikenna.
is it wrong to test ur gears by shifting from 1 to 5 while d car is off?
Car TalkRe: Help New Car Owner-how Do I Know If My Car Is Consumming More Fuel Than Require by silvoice(op): 7:25pm On Jul 04, 2014
CityNG: I wrote a detailed post on my blog

http://naijadrives.com/forums/topic/how-to-measure-fuel-efficiency/

But the short is that any android smartphone, iPhone or Blackberry Z10 will run this app. It's very easy to input your data and the reward is great as you can track your vehicles performance is of inclined.

Good morning friends. My little nissan sunny 1.4L 1993 model needs a car security dat wil frustrate potential car snatchers: if snatched on Gun point. I'm not talking of expensive ones lik car tracker and d likes. I need a simple but reliable security at a lower cost.
Do u know any? Pls suggest for me and possibly, how it works and its installation cost.

Again is it very easy to dismantle inbuilt steering lock when parked outside in d night by thief? How easy?

CityNG: Do you have a smartphone?

If so download this app Gas Cubby or similar app. Use it at every single fill up and it will reward you with your true cost of ownership which includes fill ups, tune ups and other maintenance.

I attached a screenshot of mine, on the period that I got 18.9mpg instead of the normal 25+ I knew I was driving a bit more spirited other wise I would have tried to figure out why.

Good luck.
how does this app. concern fuel consumption
Car TalkRe: Manual Transmission : Issues & Comments by silvoice(m): 2:59pm On Jul 02, 2014
Ikenna351: I answered one of the questions you asked, and not that I didnt answer the question.

If you must use your clutch or touch the clutch pedal while engine is running, you must depress the clutch pedal fully. I mean, the clutch pedal must touch the floor. Dpressing it half way would gradually damage the clutch pressure plate. And depending on the rpm, could also wear off/burn the clutch plate/disc faster. Your gearbox input spline may not like that as well.

Ikenna
good! Thanks 4 ur undastanding. More greese to ur elbow
Car TalkRe: Help New Car Owner-how Do I Know If My Car Is Consumming More Fuel Than Require by silvoice(op): 2:42pm On Jul 02, 2014
GAZZUZZ: Easy method

Buy a full tank

Reset oddmeter to 0.0

Drive a 100km

Fill up your tank again. How many litres did you buy.

Standard for you car should be 13/14km to a litre highway driving

9/10km to a litre city driving.

So if after driving 100km it takes 10liters to fill up ur ok. 15 and above ur tank is either leaking or car is burning more fuel than usual.

I must add your driving pattern and traffic also play a very big part in determining fuel consumption.
thanks a lot

I'v heard people complain of excessive fuel consumption. I jus bought my first car nissan sunny 1.4L. Since i'v not own a car before-How do i know if my car is consumming more fuel than require.
Car TalkRe: Manual Transmission : Issues & Comments by silvoice(m): 8:56am On Jul 02, 2014
Ikenna351: What you do with the clutch pedal determines the longevity of the clutch components, not just the clutch plate.

For a start, dont hold that pedal down too long each time you depress it.

Ikenna
sorry ooh! Jus asking: holding d clutch down to d floor and holding it partially to avoid stalling, while stationary on hold up: which one wears d clutch out faster. Are u suggesting we put it in neutral each time? Or to off engine each time?
