Goatluck Jonascam, bring it on, we are waiting eagerly. The beginning of the end of the first republic started from the south west when Nnamdi Azikwe colluded with Tafawa Balewa and Aminu Kano to use the prodigal son called Ladoke AKintola to surpress the Awolowo and Yorubas. Awolowo later witnessed the burial of most of the traitors. The beginning of the end of the second republic also started from the south west when the semi-literate Shagari collded with Alex Ekweme to rig themselves in for a second term, the south west rejected the rigged election. The instability that followed that led to the Buhari/Idiagbon/IBB/Abacha coup, we can all still remember how long Shagari, Alex Ekweme and other looters spent behind bars. Even Jim Nwobodo that "stole money not enough to by Peugeot" got about 200 years jail term. The beginning of the end of the third republic also started from the south west. We can all still remember the role IBB, Abacha, Justice Ukpeme, Athur Nzeribe, Arthur Kanu and other enemies of progress played. Jonathan has started his also, we are waiting for him, bring it on. |

Why nah? Why is the court protecting AIT and NTA nahh? We all know what happens to useless stations that air false propaganda against APC. Ask Igbinedion's television house in Benin and AIT in Alagbado. By the time any useless station aired another nonsense, they wont even take a pin out of their station. NONSENSE. When you say you are now born again that is when children of the devil will start disturbing you to help them prepare poison. |
Fayose said that his mum wears diapers, you people are here saying that Fayose is wrong, do you know his mum better than he does? Fayose's mum wear diapers, that is the truth, accept it or reject it. Fayose can't be wrong. Because Fayose's mum wears diaper, Fayose thinks that every other human more than 70 years wears diapers. My grandmother will be 108 years this year, my grandmother's first child is older than Fayose's mum but my grandmother does not wear diaper like Fayose's mum. |

Olatunde Ayeni is the Vice Chairman of Integrated Energy Distribution and Marketing Limited. The company purchased the electricity distribution companies in Ibadan and Yola. Olatunde Ayeni is also led the consortium, NATCOM Communications, which emerged the sole bidder for the national carriers, Nigerian Telecommunications Limited, NITEL and Mtel. Olatunde Ayeni donated 3 billion naira out of the 21 billion naira raised for the Gridlock Jonascam campaign fund. Now tell me how Gridlock Jonascam will be able to call this man to order if he decides to sell electric meters for 1 million naira each. http://icirnigeria.org/pdp-raise-n21-billion-for-jonathans-re-election-bid/ |

The cost of acquiring pre-paid electricity meters by consumers in the country has risen due to the fall in the value of the naira following the currency’s recent devaluation by the Central Bank of Nigeria. A single-phase meter, according to findings by our correspondent, can now be obtained for N39,375, while the three-phase meter now goes for N60,909. Before now, the single-phase and three-phase meters were selling for N25,000 and N50,000. However, with the latest development, the cost of the single-phase meter has risen by 56 per cent, while that of the three-phase meter has jumped by 20 per cent. This means that household electricity consumers, who are majorly the users of single-phase meters, will pay more for the devices in relative terms compared to the users of the three-phase meters. Our correspondent gathered that the price increase was because most of the meters in the Nigerian electricity market were imported and that the rising exchange rate of the naira to the United States dollar was posing a huge problem to importers of the product. For companies assembling the different components of the meters locally, the challenge is the same because foreign exchange is needed to import the components. Confirming the current cost of the meters, the spokesperson for the Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Mr. Godwin Idemudia, said, “The single-phase smart meter is N39,375, while three-phase meter is N60,901,” adding that the company was no longer installing ordinary prepaid meters. The spokesperson for the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, Mr. Pekun Adeyanju, told our correspondent in a telephone interview that the company had not commenced its metering programme yet; but was looking at starting it on or before May. He said the company was taking its time to ensure that the meters it would introduce to customers met global standard and could stand the test of time. He, however, urged customers to be patient with the firm. The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Powercap Limited, Mr. Biodun Ogunleye, told our correspondent in a telephone interview that because Nigeria was largely a foreign currency regulated economy, the devaluation of the naira would affect imported commodities, electricity meters inclusive. With the realities on the ground, he said there was no way the pricing of the meters would not be altered. Ogunleye said, “A lot of inputs have to be imported, and ultimately, those inputs will be passed onto the consumers at the cost plus margins. As a result, the costs of bringing in meters will go up; and there is nothing anybody can do about it. “It is a priority that must be implemented because the people who are operating in the market will be interested in maximising their revenue. They will not want to encourage any form of income leakages.” He said by this, whatever pricing the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission had fixed would be revisited because it had a little choice as far as granting a review was concerned. The Powercap boss added, “We have one or two local plants that can produce meters. The high foreign exchange may prompt the government to intervene, and thus make the business more profitable. “But bear in mind that when it comes to meters like many other electronics, the specification and a couple of other factors between the distribution companies and the meter manufacturers must be adhered in order to drive patronage.” He said EKEDC was looking at installing prepaid meters that could be monitored from its offices, adding that the move was targeted at ensuring that communication was enhanced between it and the meters, notwithstanding where they were installed. A text message sent by our correspondent to the Chairman, NERC, Dr. Sam Amadi, to confirm the position of the agency on the matter was not responded to as of the time of going to press, just as a call to his mobile telephone line indicated that it was switched off. However, the Chief Executive Officer, EKEDC, Mr. Oladele Amoda, during the company’s first quarter meeting with the media on Monday, said it was looking at investing $20m in providing meters to residential users as well as other smaller consumers of electricity. For its key customer group, he said about $15m would be committed to meter provision, promising that over 300,000 meters would be installed by the end of the metering programme. Please has Jonascam awarded the contract for the protection of pipelines to Ganiu Adams? If not, he should do that quickly so that the contract can run between now and May 29 when Jonascam shall leave for Otuoke. Ganiu Adams too must get part of the billions that Asari Dokubo and Tompolo have been enjoying. For Ganiu Adams, since Yorubas are plenty in Brazil, I will advise him to seek asylum in Brazil just before the people's General is sworn in. |

ABUJA—AGAINST the backdrop of recent endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan by Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the forthcoming elections, Presidential candidate of United Progressive Party, UPP, Chief Chekwas Okorie, has berated the apex Igbo socio-cultural group for hawking endorsement like pure water. Chief Okorie, who was the founder of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, as well as UPP, which he chairs, wondered in an interview with Vanguard in Abuja why the Igbo nation would like to play second fiddle when UPP had given the zone the opportunity by ceding the presidential slot to the area. He, however, said he was not disturbed as, according to him, UPP will spring some surprises in the elections, which would be the revelation in the 2015 elections. He said: “When it comes to politics, this kind of thing has always happened. Even though what Ohaneze has done this time is a little scandalous, it has not been different from what has always happened in Nigerian politics especially the Igbo politics aspect of it. “The second republic people will remember very well that almost every Igbo political leader was in NPN and they were all fighting for number two position. ”It was so bad that what NPN did was to decide to give it to any Igbo man provided that he brings N2million at that time. It was for the highest bidder and that was how Alex Ekwueme being a highly successful contractor and consultant paid. “He did not become running mate because Igbo people sponsored him but because he out-paid the others and that was what prompted Nnamdi Azikiwe to come out because he had already stated that he was not going to run. “So, when he saw his own people clamouring for number two position, he could not reconcile it with the fact that he led the struggle for Independence. That was how he came and he came late and chose the smallest of the parties at the time – NPP (Nigeria Peoples Party) which was founded by Waziri Ibrahim. “And when he was asked why he did not go to a big party where all his associates were waiting for him, he said his people were better of being majority in a minority party where their voice would be heard than being the minority in a majority party where they would be assimilated without trace. “And the masses identified with their own and they voted for him while others who went to majority parties lost in their domains and NPP dominated the area (South East). Not just that, Plateau State had a shoulder to lean and Solomon Lar became the emancipator and liberator of his people. “Now is not different, those who will always go to ‘food is ready’ will not be part of building anything. I founded APGA, it was worst in the case of APGA than I am having it now. It was only after we had won Anambra State through the court that the party became attractive. So, I am not surprised. “As a matter of fact, I am not much disappointed by what Ohaneze is doing now but I feel sorry for my Igbo people. What has happened is that Ohaneze is simply hawking endorsement as if it is hawking pure water sachet. An endorsement should be a logical outcome of a negotiated understanding contained in a written memorandum of understanding. “There are so many problems confronting the Igbo people that any patriotic, caring Pan-Igbo organization will present on the table and have it negotiated and as a result of that, endorsement will come. “Look at Afenifere, they are now telling you the reason they are supporting the government which are justifiable endorsement. What did Ohaneze say, instead, they are busy denying whether they were given a particular amount of money or not. “Is it not scandalous that umbrella organization that is supposed to speak for the interest of Igbo people has made itself so cheap? This is not the first time Ohaneze is doing this, it did it in 2011 but that time, there was no opposition and people could get away with it. Now, the situation is different. I am running and you will see what will happen. “As I said, UPP will be the revelation of 2015 election when the results start coming in. Why is it that in spite of the spate of endorsement, the beneficiaries are afraid of the popularity contest that would be tested on the basis of one man, one?” He said that he was not worried over such development, adding, “As a matter of fact, our party will be the revelation of the 2015 Presidential election. New as it is, the leadership of the party cannot be said to be new in the political domain giving the fact that I founded the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and I founded this one also. “I am also one of four Nigerians that founded two political parties in our life time. Incidentally, I am the only one alive. The other three, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Mallam Aminu Kano and Alhaji Waziri Ibrahim are late. So, there is some degree of pedigree and political antecedents that can be traced to UPP leadership. “Coming from that background, UPP again, did something very strategic, what it did was, upon its registration, to zone its Presidential slot for 2015 to the South East geo-political zone. We did that because even as at that time, we knew who the Presidential candidate of PDP would be and we knew also where the Presidential candidate of APC would come from. “These were the two prominent contenders at that time. So, we felt the way Nigeria is composed; it would make for a balance or what we used to call tripod in Nigeria’s political equation.
