By Soni Daniel, Northern Region Editor Indications emerged yesterday that the Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Lamorde, might not appear before the Senate to answer questions on the alleged diversion of N1 trillion recovered from the sale of the property of a former governor. This emerged as Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, senators have distanced themselves from the attempt by the Senate Committee on Public Petitions to drag the EFCC Chairman to the National Assembly for questioning when members resume from vacation. The PDP caucus in the Senate, led by the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, said it would not be part of the probe of Lamorde by the Senate and asked the Committee to suspend the action for now. Mr Ibrahim Lamorde The PDP senators said that while they are not opposed to any committee performing its oversight function, they felt that inviting Lamorde at this time was inappropriate since such action mooted in the past had failed to produce any result. The statement was jointly issued by Senators Akpabio, Phillip Aduda, Emmanuel Bwacha and Abiodun Olujimi. The chairman, it was learned, was suspicious over the strange invitation at the time the Senators were on vacation and no formal debate had ensued over the said matter. A source close to the commission said that it was doubtful if Lamorde would honour the invitation slated for today. EFCC also issued a statement last night, saying it was surprised over the claim that the commission diverted N1 trillion when such never happened. A statement by the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said that the commission had never seen anything close to N1 trillion since its inception and wondered how those bent on destroying the commission came by the said amount. Wilson said: “In the first instance, claims of a N1 trillion corruption in EFCC is infantile and assaults the sensibilities of all reasonable stakeholders in the anti-corruption fight. “Even if EFCC had not returned a kobo of recovered assets in its 12 years existence in addition to the yearly appropriated funds from the Federation Account, it will be nowhere near a trillion naira. “This clearly exposes the mission of the so-called petitioner as nothing more than mischief, designed to smear Lamorde. “More sinister is the discovery that the so-called petition did not follow the procedure for consideration by the Senate. It was sent, not to the senate, but to a member, Senate Peter Nwaoboshi, a first term senator from Delta North. “Under the Senate rules, petitions meant for consideration by the Red Chamber are sent to the Senate, not to a member of the senate. “Also, petitions meant for the Senate are tabled at the plenary, before they are referred to the relevant committees for further consideration.”

Dickson drops commissioner, aide over rift with First Lady January 6, 2015 Written by Mike Odiegwu, Yenagoa •Camps take rivalries to Jonathan’s daughter’s wedding The political acrimony between Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson and First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, burst open yesterday. The governor sacked the Commissioner for Local Government, Mrs. Marie Ebikake, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Federal Government Projects, Chief Remi Kuku, for alleged disloyalty to his camp and hobnobbing with President Goodluck Jonathan’s political bloc. The Nation had reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which hitherto paraded itself as a close-knit family, had been split into two – Dickson’s and First Lady’s camps. This paper also reported that those found associating with Mrs Jonathan’s loyalists were perceived as Dickson’s enemies, and vice versa. Ebikake and Kuku were said to have been acting as moles for the First Lady, whose ambition to remove Dickson and replace him with her loyalist and Senior Special Adviser to the President on Domestic Matters, Dr. Weripamowei Dudafagh, had become public knowledge. The “disloyalty” of the sacked officials to Dickson was said to have become obvious after they were spotted among the women who welcomed at the weekend Mrs Jonathan at her husband’s Otuoke community in Ogbia Local Government Area. The First Lady and the President were in the state for the wedding of President Jonathan’s foster daughter, Miss Inebai Paul, who married Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi. It was learnt that prior to the wedding, aides to the governor were directed to shun the First Lady, as payback for a similar treatment she meted out to Dickson and her wife, Rachel. But Ebikake and Kuku reportedly disobeyed the order as they joined the women loyal to the First Lady. The wedding venue was said to have been turned into a political battlefield between women loyal to Dickson and those in Mrs Jonathan’s good book. The anti-Dickson women, under the aegis of the First Lady’s Women for Change Initiative (WCI), were said to have eulogised Mrs Jonathan but slammed Dickson. But the women, who were mobilised in huge numbers, reportedly stormed Otuoke with drums and large banners, singing Dickson’s praises. The pro-Jonathan women were said to have outdone their rivals. A free-for-all almost broke out. A source, who spoke in confidence, said: “The scene was tense. The women hired by the WCI were insulting the governor. But the loyal women of Bayelsa put up a show, affirming their support for the governor.” But another source in the anti-Dickson’s camp said the refusal of the governor and his wife to accord Mrs Jonathan a befitting reception spurred the WCI women to sing her praise. The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, confirmed the sack of Ebikake and Kuku in a special announcement aired repeatedly yesterday in Yenagoa on the state radio station, Glory 97.1FM. Though the statement did not give reasons for the sack, it said the termination of their appointment was “with immediate effect”. It added that the governor’s action was in line with the administration’s process of re-organising the machinery of government to deliver on its Restoration Agenda. The statement also said Dickson had ordered the immediate redeployment of the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Markson Fefegha, as the governor’s new Principal Executive Secretary. It thanked Ebikake and Kuku for their service to the state and wished them well in their future endeavours. Dickson, last March, sacked seven commissioners in a similar State Executive Council (Exco) reshuffle to remove Dudafa’s loyalists from his government. Those affected were: Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Francis Egele; Trade, Investment and Industry, Ayakeme Massa and Health, Anapurere Michael Awoli. |
We Nigerians should try to level balance our prayer here dis insurgency of a thing does segregate BTW any tribe or religion. Pls pls make an upright comment. May god all mighty comfort all the affected people |

Former Vice President and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Atiku Abubakar has dismissed claims made by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that he would return back to the party before the February elections. It would be recalled that the PDP had on Friday through its National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo, at a press conference in Ile-Ife, Osun state, said it was wooing former members of the party, including Atiku and Governor Rabiu Kwakwanso, who defected to the APC to return to the party before the elections. “The PDP has begun moves to bring back some of our former chieftains who are now in the APC. The PDP reconciliation committee set up by the National Working Committee will meet with all former members for the purpose of bringing them back before the next general elections,” Oladipo said. But in response to the PDP’s statement, Atiku through the Director General of the Atiku Media Office, Mallam Garba Shehu, has said he has no plans to return to the PDP, adding that the news making the rounds of his alleged plans to return to the party were being peddle by “mischief makers.” “There is no iota of truth in such claims. It is not only false, it is malicious and a product of the futile imaginations of those peddling it,” Shehu said. Also, Gov. Kwankwaso has described the PDP’s claim of his planned return to the party as baseless. Kwankwaso made this known through his Director of Press and Public Relations, Baba Dantiye. “He (Kwankwaso) is presently APC’s candidate for Kano Central Senatorial District. I think it’s just PDP’s desperation,” Dantiye said. Read full story here: http://www.today.ng/news/atiku-kwankwaso-debunk-return-move-to-pdp/ |
The last may not have been heard about the controversy trailing the educational certificates of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2015 general elections, Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd). Following Buhari’s explanation in an affidavit submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that his certificates were with the military, some critics have been raising the dust, insinuating that the former head of state lied about the schools he attended. Although none of the institutions the APC presidential candidate attended has denied his studentship, Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia, in a profile of the former head of state listed his academic and professional qualifications from schools at home and abroad. According to Wikipedia, Buhari joined the Nigerian Army in 1962, when he attended the Nigerian Military Training College which was renamed the Nigerian Defence Academy, (NDA)), Kaduna, in 1964. From 1962-1963, he underwent Officer Cadets training at Mons Officer Cadet School in Aldershot in England, United Kingdom (Mons OCS was officially closed down in 1972). In January 1963, Buhari was commissioned as Second Lieutenant, and appointed Platoon Commander of the Second Infantry Battalion in Abeokuta, Nigeria. From November 1963- January 1964, Buhari attended the Platoon Commanders’ Course at the Nigerian Military College, Kaduna. In 1964, he facilitated his military training by attending the Mechanical Transport Officer’s Course at the Army Mechanical Transport School in Borden, United Kingdom. From 1965-1967, Buhari served as Commander of the Second Infantry Battalion. He was appointed Brigade Major, Second Sector, First Infantry Division, April 1967 to July 1967. Buhari was made Brigade Major of the Third Infantry Brigade, July 1967 to October 1968 and Brigade Major/ Commandant, Thirty-first Infantry Brigade, 1970-1971. Buhari served as the Assistant Adjutant-General, First Infantry Division Headquarters, 1971- 1972. He also attended the Defense Services’ Staff College, Wellington, India, in 1973. From 1974-1975, Buhari was appointed Acting Director, Transport and Supply, Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport Headquarters. He was also made Military Secretary, Army Headquarters, 1978- 1979, and a member of the Supreme Military Council, 1978-1979. From 1979 -1980, at the rank of colonel, Buhari attended the US Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, United States of America and obtained a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies. The military is yet to officially issue a statement controverting the explanation made by Buhari about his certificates in his affidavit to INEC even as Nigerians are anxiously waiting to see how the unfolding scenario will play out. |

Actually beating does no good for the body it either makes a child conform to an instruction or makes the child wild. Psychologically, beating is not a punitive measure for punishment, and there is also sometime u av to beat for him to knw what he has done is bad. Mind u in other part of world beating is a taboo for upbringing but here in africa beating has become tradition and yardstick for punishment. Some other measure to constrain children eye-contact, punishment, beating. It is nt good to be beating your children for evrytin they do, you are made the father to corret mistakes with a pacific measure |

Jollof: @ OP - Thanks for bringing up the issue of Corruption but the issue isn't necessarily whether or not it's increasing or decreasing...it exists and it has reached alarming levels as you've pointed out. The next post you should be thinking of (and that would be more engaging) should be how to tackle corruption. This forum should serve as a decent sample of Nigerians from diverse backgrounds so I believe it would be interesting to see the different ways we think it can be reduced e.g. How would you tackle corruption as the President of Nigeria? And please be reminded that even though we know the corruption in government/public sector is one issue, corruption in the private sector also exists...some churches are no exception. Looking forward to the follow-up.Its a true talk "U̶̲̥̅̊ av said it well. Many nigerians know Ħ☺w to tackle and suppress CORRUPTION. Be reminded D̶̲̥̅̊IS̶̲̥̅ corruption has been tackle in Τ̲̅ђε̲̣̣̣̥ regime of military wen military were stagin and striking in nigerian politics. When the leader can't be caught down with their scoundrel act, then tel M̶̲̥̅̊ε̲̣̣̣̥ Ħ☺w wud it be possible †̥ bt an end †̥ corruption. Majority of our elite are sqaunderer Τ̲̅Ђε̲̣̣̣̥Ɣ dont av the sympathy of others. When a disease can,t be cure early it wil surely grow to unexpecteed rate which ȋ̝̊̅ƨ̣̇ happening in nigeria of now (cankerworm). Unless Į̸̸̨ƭ god send a messayanic person dats only wen nigeria would depreciate 4rm CORRUPTION.
